"No rush!" the warforged calls back. "The view is spectacular!"
Jul 3, 2023 7:35 am
Malbor gets to his feet and sways unsteadily. He reaches one hand to his brow and feels the wet, sticky blood forming on his brow from where his head hit the floor. Or was it the ceiling? Or was it both? He stumbles awkwardly trying to steady himself with whatever presents as a hand hold, a crate, a barrel, the side of the ship as he tries to make his way up on deck.
OOC:
Yah.. I've taken over half my HP too.

https://i.imgur.com/W5G27UK.jpg37 truly does have a spectacular view. The vast barren wasteland expands away from the mists in all directions. A blackened, slithery river sits stagnant below the airship. Having spent two days on deck, he realizes how far they’ve dropped in the mists. The ground is much closer now. Kleber cautiously lends a hand to his warforged companion and 37 is safely returned to the deck of the Zarantyr.

Jean arrives to help the captain remove the harness. She informs Vren of the status of Camran and says Sloane reports the matrix is undamaged. Malbor arrives on deck and Jean offers a bandage for his bleeding head.

The cliffs appear off in the distance. Earic limps up from below deck, favouring his left leg. He confers with the captain to gain their bearings. After a short conversation and reviewing Earic’s notes and charts, they are able to find the little black cloud of the Cyre.

"Alright Gentlemen, we have just over an hour of travel ahead of us and maybe three hours of usable daylight. If the Cyre needs to be towed, we will have less than half an hour to secure the vessel on arrival and begin our return. I will not keep my ship in this wretched place in the dark. If we can’t get it done on time, we return in the morning."

The captain pushes the lever and smoothly brings the vessel to full speed. The ship takes a slightly downward angle and to starboard headed toward the black cloud ahead.
OOC:
You have time take a short rest if you wish to recover some HP. Gzizmix has attuned to the bracers. Did anyone grab the other pair?

As the ships descends, you begin to hear the whispers once more. Camran awakes to their hushed cacophony, panicked and disoriented. Stuttering and stammering about being chased by relentless spectres. Jean tries to get him to calm down and rest, but the Khoravar refuses to return to sleep.

Finally, you reach the Cyre ir’Wynarn

Much of the vessel is wreathed not in cloud, but black smoke which hangs motionless in the windless sky. The sweet, fragrant smell of burnt soarwood fills the air as you approach. The Captain slows and circles the mighty airship. Its rings are not active and the ship sits eerily in the unmoving smoke. Silent, but for the whispers, lightless in its windows. You see fallen Cyran soldiers on its deck, the same grey pallor on their skin, untouched by time.

As you go around to its starboard side, you find the source of the smoke. A burnt, gaping hole from a long extinguished fire sits where the starboard elemental pylon should be. The unmoving smoke blocks any view of the interior of the ship. The captain finishes his exterior survey and finds a spot at the rear of the poop deck to safely pull along side. Here he brings the Zarantyr’s Light to a floating stop. Rune, Faeris and Jean toss ropes to tether the two vessels together and set a gangway to connect them.

Vren then calls for Sloane and asks if you will escort her aboard to inspect the damage.

37 is ready to board the wreckage as soon as he's told to do so, and is willing to go first.

He'll activate his otherwise completely mundane signet ring (a target of magical tinkering), causing it to shed 5 feet of bright light and 5 feet of dim light beyond that.

Gzizmix will go with Sloane and keep an eye out for any danger either mundane or arcane.
Jul 5, 2023 3:35 pm
Vice will watch the crew with interest, ask many questions about tethering a ship, and offer to help where he can.
Jul 5, 2023 4:34 pm
Kleber steps slightly behind 37, his gaze sweeping over the eerie scene. He voices the already obvious. "Seems like the Elemental's cage failed. Soldiers died from something else..."
Mustering his courage, Kleber walks toward the ship's edge to look down and search for the Cadaver Collector from their previous encounter.

37 leads the way aboard the Cyre with Sloane and Gzizmix close behind.

Sloane comments on Kleber’s observation as they cross the gangway, "You’re definitely right about that, Kleber. You know, only fire and air elementals are used in airships. The fire may have been started during its escape. I wonder how they escaped though. Likely the Mourning?"

Earic stays back with giddy excitement. However, after the events of the past week, he wishes to make sure it’s safe to board the ship. "She’s beautiful!", he says in awe.

Kleber looks down below and finds the wreckage site clear of any more bodies. The cadaver collector is no longer there. Apparently with its work done, the construct has moved on.
OOC:
Perception check if you’re looking for more on the collector.

For those on the ship, could I get a perception check as well?
Jul 5, 2023 7:05 pm
"Sure Earic, if you ignore the giant hole, scorch marks, corpses and weird smog this is a true marvel. I imagine it will take a lot to restore it's glory"

Kleber remarks, as he squints his eyes looking below. He is more at ease now that the collector seems to be gone.
OOC:
Captain wants to leave before nightfall, how much time does that leave us?

Kleber notices the collector’s footprints entered the site in a straight line from the north and leave following a straight line back north. You’re uncertain of what lies in that direction, but it appears deliberate.

Malbor bandages his wounded skull and rests to ease the pounding in his head. By the time the ship reaches the wreckage his headache has receded and he is feeling much better. His desire to investigate the fate of the ship wins out over his natural caution, and poor condition, and he volunteers to go aboard with the away group.
