Fabled Wandering

Fable is a little bit overwhelmed and keeps shaking Meeps hands.

"Well, I had a few adventures, but I am also new to the exploration stuff. I usually stick to cities. Em, Rabbits? Sure, I like to eat them, but I am not the best hunter. Never got the hang of it." Fable notices that they are still shaking hands and stops but smiles.

"Do you need some supplies as well?"
OOC:

He let thier hand go easily, happy to share the enjoyment of rabbits. "Perhaps I can get you tasty rabbits in exchange for your stories? I love stories. Shopping? Hmm yes yes. Things musy be gained." Meep seems ready to follow your lead.
OOC:
Items he will look for:
Filling his water skin
First aid supplies
Fishing gear
Traps/supplies to make his own
Arrows (if we count ammo, not 100% on that)
Feb 18, 2023 8:18 pm
You go shopping and both get all the supplies you need, as well as minor work done on your gear for maintenance. Meep even finds a nice little in run by a Hin (halfling/hobit) that serves a well seasoned braised rabbit. That evening you have a good meal as you are uncertain what the food will be like at this expedition outpost.
OOC:
This system glosses over most tracking of resources but there may be situations where I will want stuff tracked. Ammunition will not be tracked unless you are away from any place to restock for extended periods of time and I will give you a head up like "you are running low on arrows are are extra careful in recovering your shots".

From my side its okay if we skip to the boatride if Miss_Sadie agrees as well.
Plenty of time to RP on the trip. ^^

OOC:
Sounds good! I hate tracking ammo so I don't mind largely ignoring the mechanic.

I'm fine with hopping to the boat ride. Might be more to spark RP when out and about as well :)

In the morning you are at the docs before the suns first rays according the the instructions from Corwin. He arrives about half an hour later and points out a boat that is getting loaded under the careful eye and sharp orders of the boats captain. Walking up at the urging of Corewin you are stopped abruptly by a snapped command from the captain.
Stand out of the way or you'll end up in the drink!

Nel
A youth of 8 to 10 years tugs at your sleeves and whispers This way. Follow me and he flashes you as smile as he weaves through the boatmen hauling crates and large sacks. You follow closely behind and manage to board the boat and follow the boy to a corner at the front. Names Nel. My Da owns this boat and I'm in training. again followed by the youths big and energetic smile.

Pointing at Fable he says You look tough and then to Meek You look fluffy. Can you really fly? I wish I could fly some times but I figure it's like swimming and Ma says I'm half otter causin I swim better than any 2 other boys. and another big grin.
Feb 21, 2023 7:58 pm
As Fable tries to dodge between people hauling cargo they smile back and Nel. "You’re quite a preceptive one, aren't you? I bet swimming is in your blood when you have to work on boats at your age. Not a fan of water myself." Still smiling they turn to Meek "Can you? Fly I mean." Fable looks genuinely interested at Meek.
Feb 22, 2023 12:33 am
Meep is a little overwhelmed with the relative chaos on the docks and sticks close to Fable. The captain scares him and he essentially hides behind Fable as they follow Nel. For a moment he studies Nel intensely before replying to the two. His tiny bird chest seems to puff out as he speaks.

"Meep can fly! I can fly good! Well, so long as I'm not carrying too much. And the ceiling is high enough. And the room is big enough. Meep is best outdoors." He pauses to think and speaks again. "I don't like swimming but love flying so...not the same!"
OOC:
Forgot to ask about what his stuff cost! How much of the 10 gold was spent?

The boy chatters away happy to have such an interesting an audience, or an excuse to avoid work, or both... After several minutes of activity the boat is loaded and soved off form the docks.

Meep decides water is better in the air or as a drink. Give me a save vs motion sickness

Hank
After a few minutes the city has shrunk in the distance as the swift current takes you south. The captain comes over and looks the two of you over before explaining how he runs his boat.
It will take about 5 day to reach teh expedition. Stay out of the way. We have food for 2 meals a day. You are responcible for watching the boat at nights when whether we tie up or stay on the river. The last day or so has a bad habit of being "exciting" so you will need to be on call that entire day.
The boy is mine. He is going to take over this boat when he is of age. So when you tell him of your marvelous adventures make sure you keep the bad parts in your stories.

In the mean time relax, th e boy will show you where is good. the sun gets warm and I pray there wont be much for you to do . I've been doin this for a bit so let me or the boy know if you have any questions.
OOC:
Fable has 5GP left
Meep has 2 Gold and a small trap and wire for snares

The first day passes with little to do. The mountains grow smaller in the north eastern horizon as you pass through grass lands with a few low hills. At night the two of you you take turns on watch, with one of the boat men at the rudder, as you float down river. Meep tries out the new fishing kit @Miss_Sadie give me a hunting roll 3d6 accompanied by Nel who chatters away if given the opportunity. Fable easily gets on with the boat men, haven Roundtree their like before in countless taverns, but gets a stern glare from Hal when one of the men tries to stay up a game of "chance".
Feb 23, 2023 9:58 pm
Fable looks innocent at Hal: „Just a small game to keep the morale up, ey? Not playing for nothing".

After having been „caught" by Hal Fable will try to stay out of his way but might try to play with some of the sailors if the coast is clear.

When alone at night Fable would try to find a place where they can talk to Joe unattended if such a place on the boat exist.

Meep does his best to stay out of the way, as requested. He enjoys Nel's company, their energy matching better than with the others. He does what he is asked, always game to try and help, while waiting for the promised 'exciting' day.
OOC:
If he get sea sick then add in some being ill and dramatic about it before dealing with it.

Fable quickly learns that as long as the play does not affect the ship, and isn't blatant or involving Nel, then Hank does not seem to notice the litle games he organizes. He learns from the men that the captain prefers card games and the like as he is a shrewd judge of character and read men without revealing anything of himself.

Meep's nausu is unsettling but Nel is quick to save his new friend,. The nxt time they pause Nell returns to the boat with an armful of branches to craft the "biirdman" a nest.
Nel
Pretend you are in a tree. when the wind blows they sway. I've seen em. The rivers the same. Meeps realizes its discomfert was more with the water than the motion. Feeling better Meep and Nel swap fishing techniques and catch enough for a nice meal of grilled fish You do cook your food dont you? Nel ask, with a touch of unease, staring at Meeps talons and beak.

By the third day trafic on the rivver has dwindled to just your craft and Hank becomes even more allert and curtails several of Fables games when he "dosn't like the way the river feels". During one such time you spy another raft headint upriver. The barge is smaller than Hanks flat bottom river boat and moves slowly up river.

Hank
Dont recognize that as one of the expedition vessels . . . Hank mutters staring keenly at the aproaching boat Get ready but dont show it he tells his men and Nel passes the instruction to you before dissapearing somewhere in the crates that fill the midle of the boat.
Feb 26, 2023 3:10 pm
Fable gets their weapons and gear ready and tries to stay alert for anything dangerous.

"I got a bad feeling about this" Fable mutters to no one in particular.

While not sure how to get ready without looking like he is getting ready, Meep does his best to do so. Hunting best from a height advantage, he climbs what he can near the crates where Nel hides. He likes his new friend, even if he did think he ate raw food. Gross. Surprisingly, he is very quiet.
Feb 26, 2023 10:03 pm
As your boats draw closer one of the men mutters a warning Another boat to the rear. Two now. Moving quick.

Hank
Toss it, bloody pirates on the river. Gale, grab the oar. Kornik back him up. Everyone get shields ready. As soon as the first fires on us take them. I wont start it but I aim to come out of it. and he strides to the front of the boat.
You to stay on me. The barge will likely try to stall us for the other two and not show any aggression but I ant stoppin no matter what. I need you two to keep them off my boat. This is MY boat. on here my word is law. Any of them touch it with a hand to pole and you make sure whatever they used cant be used again. You hear me. and he looks both of you in the eye.

He instructs four of the other men to speed up the boat and they lay into their long poled oars as the two larges move to the front with a couple of thick rods that they heft like clubs as they bracket the captain between them as they stand ready.

OOC:
Are there any preparations you want to make? Ther crew has some spears, staves, and nets to use if you like.
As the barge up ahead nears it "appears" to strike something and suddenly turns into your boats way.
Feb 28, 2023 12:43 am
Meep nods, readies his bow and mentally puts anyone not currently on the boat as 'the bad guys'.
OOC:
Nothing in particular!
Feb 28, 2023 8:36 am
"Well if they want a fight, they can have it. Hal, are you sure they are pirates?" Fable shouts.

If Fable gets conformation will light a torch with flint and steel getting ready to throw it on the pirates boat to end the fight quickly.

It's a bit underhanded, but I will make sure that this is not a fair fight. I am sure they can douse the fire, but maybe keeps some of them distracted.

The barge ahead of you, which has 8 men aboard, suddenly lurches directly into your path. Though the men turn your boar hard you still pass too close. Hooked poles and grappling hooks land on the boat and begin pulling the boats together.
Hank
Cut us free before the other boats can close in Hank hollers as he draws his sword and hacks at the men form the other boat. The two men grip the rods, which suddenly expand into thick poles about 8 feet long, and move while swinging in an attempt to keep the boarders from crossing to your vessel.
