The Other Baron (RP)

You find a quiet moment for contemplation, but you are not the only person looking for solitude. Exiting by a --mostly unguarded-- back gate you spot a figure that looks remarkably like the baron himself sneaking off into the dark. The guard on duty does not acknowledge the man and studiously looks the other way, whistling to himself and making it clear he 'saw nothing and nobody'.

Roald reaches for the pitcher and poors himself a drink.
He stares at the cup in front of him. Hesitating...
OOC:
I'm not sure what stat to use. But they are all +1. I'm going for intelligence. On a 10+ he will go to bed to avoid the temptation.

The beer tastes, ... well actually it doesn't taste good. But Roald doesn't care. He downs his first cup and starts refilling. If there is any tension in the room, he is not picking up on it... Being preoccupied with more important stuff.

After searching the hallways for any sort of shrine, it quickly became clear to Albert that this was not that kind of place. He decided to instead take a late night stroll through the garden. The fresh air and sounds of nature would soothe his mind if nothing else. A faint whistle catches his attention and he can see a last glimpse of what looks like it could be the baron walking off.

Where's he going this late? I doubt he'd be one to use an outhouse. And by his walk, it looks like he's not just going for a casual stroll. Is the first thought that goes through his mind. Quickly followed by: What if he's going to check on the girl? I need to find out.

Albert stays at a distance, but tries to keep the baron in his sights.

The baron quickly ends up on the main road, heading the opposite direction you came in on. There is not much cover to hide you, but you can also be fairly certain that you can follow at a distance, or even gather your companions and catch up.
OOC:
The last part is mainly for if we don't want to split the party. You can get the others and still follow the baron.

"The whole valley is full of women behaving out of the ordinary. My grandmother used to tell a tale from when she was just a wee lass: There was a witch in the woods who get all women together and fill their heads with dangerous talk. One of the farmers we met a few days ago had almost the same kind of trouble. I just hope my mother is not getting into this. My father would not be able to deal with her."

Hearing the glass slam on the table a few time in short succession, Norbert looks over to Roald. "Is that how one is supposed to drink this? I'm not sure I will last very long if I try to keep up. I'm still getting used to the taste."

"'The Witch of the Woods'?... Yeah... it is all her fault." Your companion agrees with Norbert's grandmother. "Else my wife would never behave this way." You are not sure he has ever heard of this before, but it offers an excuse for his situation.

Still angry, though, he looks over at Roald with a scowl. "Oh? Now you're suddenly good enough to drink our beer?" He asks --getting it wrong in his indignation. "I don't think so." He tries to take the keg away.

Not far down the road at all you see a light, it turns out to be the inn the baron told you was nowhere near here and you hear a brief snatch of voices which drop to silence as he enters. After he has closed the door the voices resume, but a little more restrained-sounding.

The windows in the front are greasy and smudged on the inside, but it might be possible to find one to see through.

Roald holds on to the keg. Both men pulling from the other side. He stares the man in the eye and growls with his teeth closed "I never said you weren't good enough. now. let. go."
It's turning into a keg-o-war, one hand firmly round the wooden cup, they are both not giving in.
The other guy's face is turning red from the effort. He returns Roald's gaze but is to preoccupied (and drunk) to talk back.
OOC:
I suppose a strength test is in order here.
Apr 1, 2023 2:42 pm
The room turns silent as people start to notice what is going on.
Roald gives it all he's got, but his opponent is not budging.

The keg is slipping away from him so he pinches it just a bit harder. First there is a small crackling sound, followed by a loud crack as the cup breaks. Beer is flying across the room onto everybody.
For a moment nothing happens and everyone sits in silence but then the person that was talking to Norbert starts laughing, silently at first but louder each second. Roald's opponent isn't laughing though. He bites his lip wanting to throw an insult at Roald, if only not to lose face. But taking a look at his friends having tears in their eyes makes it clear there will be no help from them when it would come to a fight.
The man stands up pushing his stool backwards, he grabs the stool and throws it over Roald against the wall.
The laughing stops as he turns and leaves the room. When the door slams shut he hears a roaring laughter coming from behind the closed door.

The dog jumps up ar sound of the crashing keg. With disgust Norbert thinks about the smell of beer he wil need to get out of her fur.

"That is a real shame." The others might think he talks about the beer.

"Albert would have liked a taste of that. Do you think he will come?" Norbert asks with a hint of concern in his voice.

Is that an inn??? That lying ba...ron! He moves closer, quietly, trying to get to a window where he could have a little peek inside. Hopefully unnoticed. Maybe he'll hear something interesting too.

As he's getting closer, he keeps an eye out for movement and noise, which could lead to him getting caught. This has to be where they're keeping her.

You have the bright moon behind you --illuminating your head-- and the dim-but-cheery lights inside, so, unless you are prepared to expose yourself, you can not see much through the grimy window.

The other patrons appear to be trying to ignore the fact that the baron has come into their drinking-hole --in minimal-and-bad disguise-- but they don't seem surprised, indicating that this is not an unusual occurrence.

You can't see clearly, but the you think you spot the baron at a table near the back. You can't see who he is meeting with, all that is visible is a large stomach intruding out of the shadows covering their face.

Albert is annoyed that this window is too grimy to look through. He decides he knows enough to go and tell the others and heads back to their room to explain what he's seen.
Apr 6, 2023 1:56 am
Roald is laughing with the others, though he is not really sure why exactly.
One of the guys stands up: "I'm gonna turn in, let's hope Marek doesn't remember what happened here, we'll be in for a rough day tomorrow" he wipes the tears from his eyes.
Putting two and two together Roald guesses the man that stormed off is Marek, and he's some sort of boss of the others.
Since everybody is preparing to leave, Roald also stands, but loses his balance and sits back again.
All this time being sober made him become drunk more easely.
He stands up again, slower this time.
"le-het's go Norbert" he hickups. "Let's go a-hand find Albert"

Not being used to drinking Norbert gets up a bit unsteady himself. "Let's go, old man."

The fresh summer air outside feels like a cosy blanket. "Come on girl, it was a good night. Albert will probably already in bed." Norbert turns towards their room and gently nudges Roald allong.

Albert is indeed already in bed, but only sitting on it. He waited for the others to return. If that hadn't been the case, he would definitely have been woken up by Roald's unstable walking. "What happened?" He asks Norbert when he sees them. The question quickly answers itself when he gets a whiff of the smell of alcohol coming from Roald.

"How much has he had to drink? He should know better!" It reminds Albert of the times that Roald had been drunk in his bar. "Let's up him on the bed, he should be fine tomorrow."

After helping Roald to bed, he tells Norbert what he saw the baron do tonight. "Unfortunately, I wasn't able to see who he was talking to in there. But it's very suspicious that he told us there's no inn nearby. We should probably investigate that place tomorrow. What do you think, Norbert?"
Apr 10, 2023 6:47 am
Roald lies down on the bed and starts snoring in an instant.

"A good night sleep will make our decisions better, I believe." Norbert adds in a sleepy voice. "Maybe visiting the inn when there is no crowd will make the innkeeper more talkative."

He mumbles while resting his head on a pillow. Beds are great he thinks. This pillow is soft,....

He sleeps with a slight smile and looks his young age.
