Iantha's lips curls as she and Chryseis arrive with Nikias. The scene was displeasing, and worrying. While mos her prayers were to Artemis she di not forget Athena. To keep a sharp mnid on the battlefield and use tactics and smarts to defeat the enemy was something she tried to pay heed to..except in the moment her temp or emotions got the better of her. Such moments have become more infrequent as she got older, but there were still time her heart acted before her head. The moments with Helen wee some, and even now her fingers curled around her spear as she thought of making those stripping the statue back of. But she doesn't. These were the last few hours of a long war. Best let everyone deal with it their own way. Get it over with, and then they could also just....move on. S

She hadn't give much thought to what o do after and as she thought on it she hesitates,.,. It had been so long, these 10 years she wasn't quite sure what next. They would work it out they. They don't have a choice not to.

Chryseis sighs, sharing Iantha's sentiment. You know, there are rumors that a hydra lives on the coast to the west of Sparta. Do you think we could hitch a ride?

I appreciate your courtesy, Kurush grunts. Having located the rest of his supplies, he straps them on his person as if this was just another day. Now, I do owe you for freeing me, but beyond that I'll need to be paid, otherwise I'd like to go home. What did you want?

Kurush, while fit, is indeed an older soldier, not quite a generation your senior. It stands to reason he'd be ready to retire without a new reason to fight.

Your "god's intervention" is tied to the lack of information, so it'll come up later, or maybe not.

Helenus is telling the truth, though the hammers ring in your head again...

"Sign with me as a Mercenary, youd be someone to stand with me when I lift my hammer, someone to watch my back against the treachery of Greeks. Fair pay for fair work. Glory and plunder to your name as well. I have ample coin, ten obols a week plus a bonus sound fair to you?"
Apr 4, 2023 2:38 am
I don't need the bonus, but I want a month up front. Then I'm your sword.
Apr 4, 2023 2:52 am
Tiwaz shrugged at that it was a fair deal. "Only an idiot carries that kind of money on him. We should find one of the quartermasters and get you your pay before they get too drunk to count."

Nikias, reaching to comfort the young girl, pulls his hand back swiftly as thoughts - images? - rushed into his mind. Tragedy, terribly tragedy.

He stands as Kiuru approaches, unsure of what he had just envisioned. "Youthful indiscretion," Nikias echoes, struggling to mask his contempt for what was happening. "Athena will not be pleased, Friend Kiuru. The temples of Sparta be damned, do you believe the Goddess will allow these treasures to make it that far? I would not wish to be aboard the ship carrying these trinkets. In the same fleet for that matter, though I have not that choice. And these young ones...if ten years was too long a wait, the men's intent to sack this city may have grown similarly too ripe." He catches Iantha's eyes, sees her grip tighten on the spear, and understands her feelings.

As the young man, this Seer of Apollo, appears and bears into them, Nikias can only lower his head. He waits in silence, listening to his own heartbeat in rhythm to the boy's words of concern towards his sister. "Sparta has claimed you," Nikias relents, "but I still feel sorrow for your family. Things could have gone better - would have gone better - had this war never started. Yet here we stand."

"Kiuru, cousin, have you any sway to at least keep these two siblings together in their servitude? Perhaps you can talk to Menelaus."

Kouru would meet the gaze of his fellow soldier, pupils wide and unfocused as words come to his lips unbidden "Wings and wind, children and cliffs..." before he blinks, offering a weak shrug "It is my intention to claim the family as my booty, even if it takes my entire share. My Good King is just, and I'm sure he will not object to keeping a family together as that's exactly what brought this war about." Turning his head to glance over his shoulder the old veteran would sigh, hands continuing to pack herbs in the bandages covering the still dripping gash running from collarbone to abs "We will offer sacrifice before we set sail, and... we will hope that the gods of war will honor our victory. Frankly" Here he leans forward to lightly headbutt the other man in an old soldier's salute, bringing him close enough to murmur "I'm going to pray that she spares my ship for keeping the idiots off of her women" "Drums and anvils, maidens dancing in procession and wailing around the pyre, a child cursed and blessed by the gods... Troy was burning already. Many children were and would be lost on this day. "Why did I see that one? Where were those cliffs?"

'A hydra? Sure you can keep up?' She teases giving her fellow amazon a playful nudge on the soldier, before she looks over at the rest of the army and sighs. 'That sounds nice. Sure we can find at least one boat to take us. Nikias owes me'

"The Spartans have claimed this temple and everyonf in it. That includes you. But we can always lie about that." Tiwaz waves Kurush ahead and begins to make for the Greek camp inside the temple in search of a quarter master to secure Kurush's payment.

Nikias accepts the salute and hears the Kouru's words. "Truly," he says quietly, "would that I might have the same fortune. I'll winds blow this night. Gods be good to you on your travels home," Nikias says with a weak smile. He was exhausted: of the war, of haughty minds, and brash behavior in the sake of family. What did most of these boys, even these kings, know of family?

He sighs and looks to Iantha and laughs, "A hydra? If only I might join you on that adventure. Alas, my fate, I hope, shall bring him home, to Ithaca, not the beaches of Sparta. Perhaps our friend Kouru could accept your presence aboard his ship, however?" He looks to the man, "These women are most lucky and blessed of the Gods. You would be ever more wise to allow them passage."

"Hydra? Thats the one that fools attempt to kill by decapitating? Why not just crush its body?" Tiwaz had finally arrived with Kurush in tow, the pair sporting identical darkwood shields that they had looted off some palace guards.
Apr 7, 2023 6:04 am
'Just lucky? Not skilled and great warriors?' She raises an eyebrow but her smile shows she is just teasing.

The eyebrow stays raise the Tiwaz approaches, a brief scowl also crossing her face at his simplification of things. 'For a start it is a better tale. Also I would imagine the heads block access to the body. Fighting monsters is not as simple as fighting men.'
OOC:
That does bring up a question: How common is knowledge about things like monsters, especially specifics like decapting hydra for most people. Iantha' s specifically trained for it, but for the layman?

"Right well I suppose we will all find out when you see me kill it." Noting the scowl Tiwaz just grins ever wider, implacable confidence. "A tale can be lied about after it is successful. But the tale seldom matches the deed. Like Herakles and his labors." Shrugging Tiwaz gestured to his new companion. "This is Kurush."
Apr 7, 2023 10:27 am
'I do not remember inviting you Luwian.' The scowl comes back the warrior clearly irritated at him shouldering into their conversation and then quest.

'The war is over. You are a skilled warrior, but while we fought together on the battlefield, that is no longer the case. This hunt is ours.'

OOC:
On the way up from the dungeon
Kurush scoffs. I'm done being claimed by different men who think they know better. But as I'm clearly no friend of the Trojans, your honor stays intact.
OOC:
Back up in the temple
Friends!! King Odysseus strolls to you with outstretched arms, his nose ever-so-slightly pink from revelry. The gods smile on us indeed! You Spartans sure are efficient. Everything is packed from the temple for King Menelaus on your ship, Nikias. I figured you had extra space so I volunteered it. Kouru here is going to keep track of everything while you travel. Gotta pass Sparta anyway. Ah, the family's with Menelaus, though. He wanted to stick the grills to 'em, you know? He makes a jabbing gesture and laughs. Tiwaz, your patience is appreciated. Hop on one of my ships and as soon as I'm caught up with my family, my ears are yours.....both of yours. He shakes his head and does realize he's looking at two different Luwians. He smiles at Iantha and Chryseis. Oh, Nikias! You told me about these two! Giving the Amazonians a tour of fair Ithaca, eh? What a party we'll have when we get home! Gods keep you - we set sail at first light!
He claps you on the shoulder and strolls back into the looted temple, calling out to another group of men.
Apr 7, 2023 4:52 pm
Kouru flashes a wry smile between his fellow soldiers as they banter, nodding along "Sparta would be honoured to host you for a fortnight of feasting to celebrate our triumph here. There are things to set aright, the temple to bless, sacrifices to make, and obligations to care for prior to any new adventure" as the Ithican king makes his announcement he'd frown, smelling the rising scent of wine in the air "... and of course there is a legacy to safeguard. But should duty allow, I'd be greatly pleased to form a few more legends before settling down. Sparta has a great love and respect for strong women, if you've ever a mind to settle down as I do" the bleeding had finally stopped and he'd frown, shaking his head at the thought of the near future "Cousin Nikias, might I impose upon you to keep an eye on these four? I fear they will be abused before they can be safely loaded, and I plan to take at least the siblings into my home unspoiled... looking past the city his eyebrows would grow together as he glowers, picking up his bow with a wince "The blade is cast, to whom does it belong? To the one who made it, or the one who made it a weapon?" "Daughter of the Lady" the use of a title like that was high respect to a warrior woman, to whom he turned "I have one more task which requires swift feet and a sober mind. Will you range with me while the ships are loaded?" his king, after all, had called for 'the family', and he still had that itch on the back of his head. Where exactly are those cliffs?
Apr 7, 2023 6:43 pm
"Thanks chief!" Unceremoniously Tiwaz saluted Odysseus by raising a large golden chalice full of wine he had stolen from the palace."I plan on earning glory with you for a long time yet." The enormous Barbarian roars over the din of drinking. Then sneers at Iantha who had been so very rude. The scabs on his face where the snake had bit him cracked and bled most sinister. "Someone has to show this lot manners afterall." Tipping the serving chalice, a vessel meant to serve several people he drained the entire contents in three large gulps and belched loudly to show exactly what he thought of decorum.

Kurush slaps Tiwaz's shoulder. Come. If you haven't claimed your full bounty yet, I imagine we could secure horses. I have not been to the motherland in years. Singing an old Luwian drinking song, they stroll out into the night.
OOC:
Kouru, you do know where the cliffs are. They're along the edge of the city walls to the north.

Nikias's mood darkens immediately at the mention of this temple's plunder aboard his own ship, but all he can manage is a weak, "My king," in response to Odysseus's commands.

He looks to the others, "It looks as though we may need all the luck, and prayers, we can aboard mine own ship as well." It's clear he's concerned about this turn of events. "Kouru, seems we're to sail together, your ship and mine while we help deliver these, hm, spoils."
