Chapter 1: The Fall of Troy

Nikias gives a double take while ending the life of the Trojan soldier before him. Was that? he blinks, no, my eyes must deceive me. "Men!" he shouts, "press onward. I have quarry needs hunted - I will return soon, with a story to tell!" He separates from the group and follows what caught his gaze.

When Tiwaz arrives and bellows his challenge, the priest looks honor-bound to comply, but a younger man storms in with the markings of a modern soldier.
This isn't your fight, foreigner!
His cry is accompanied by a spear thrown at the Luwian.

Tiwaz, I'm guessing 11 doesn't beat your AC, so you can continue the duel if you wish. Feel free to post as you're around. I'll reply and pause folks when it's appropriate to regroup, but for now, the party's pretty split, so I don't mind separate trains of thought.

Tiwaz opened himself up for the thrown spear, he didnt even attempt to dodge it. Exposed as he was he braced for some pain. When the spear fell short three feet from him he laughed, then drawing his thumb across his throat he told the fighter he was going to kill him anyway. "Is this a Trojan champion? Send me Hector. Send me Paris. Not this beardless whelpling!" Tiwaz gave the youth full marks for bravery, for indeed it would take a brave or incredibly stupid person to fight him toe to toe.
Tiwaz incredulous at the sight sprints full force into the challenger, his mighty hammer, Earthbreaker carried at the low ready as the gigantic Luwian bore down upon the poor Trojan Leaping, flinging the full force of his bodyweight into an ascending swing. A column of air whooshing from the hammerhead preceded the strike. "Witness me Apollo, this blood is for you oh greatest of all gods!"
Also his charging feat allows him to continue his moment if the attack kills his enemy, so if thats the case Tiwaz would drape the first of his kills on the Paladium's archway. Practically challenging Palas to fight him.

Twiaz and PolitesThe youth laughs. Where is Achilles? Where is your great Ajax? No, Lord Apollo himself helped Paris slay your beloved madman, and Ajax lies skewered by Hector's sword. In a flurry his blade slashes at you, both swings hitting their marks. A glint in his eye suggests this bare-face may have more luck than you thought.
It seems the dregs of the Achaean army consist of foreigners. I am Polites, son of Priam, brother of Paris and Hector of whom you dare to speak.
OOC:
Tiwaz, please take 23 damage. Polites did not confirm his crit, but he did land 2 hits. You hit Polites for 22, though the crit did trigger, and destroyed his shield. Because it's an "artificial" crit from your ability, no chance for gods this time.
Round 3 of 8 for the blood rage complete.
Between feats and ranks I can see how you'd get +15 on your acrobatics, and the rage would bring it to +17. Where does the last 2 come from? Also, not that it matters for this attack, but bear in mind that your range changes via charges, but the Earthbreaker's range is melee.

That's a very tasty feat. Still she wasn't going to split from her own remain teammeber. She locks eyes with her sisters in arms as she strokes down another defender and tilts her head on the direction Nikias had run, silent communicating before moving to follow expect Chryseis to be close behind.
She wouldn't let Nikias throw away the left she had save once by being foolish. Besides the word quarry had piqued her interest

Why not use that Hero point self? Ok!The Giant of Luwia was no misnomer, he was easily twice the size of the average man, though not necessarily in height, density. Two lines of Royal Blood stained Earthbreaker, which began to glow with soft golden light.

I'm going to let Nikias post first just because he's got a slight head start on the Amazonians, but then you'll be combined. Tiwaz and Polites
But the Luwian turns heel and charges, descending like one of Zeus's own bolts. The prince braces himself for impact, but even his usual maneuvers can't save him. His armor splits and he collapses to the ground in a pool of his own blood.
You hear a man's voice cry in anguish from near the altar to Zeus. King Priam has given up his location.

I am still learning how bloodrager works, so if you could please link your jumping abilities in your thread I'd appreciate it hahaTiwaz is paused until Kouru has had a chance to act, since they're both in the temple.

"Priests of Troy" came his bellow as Ajax stands back, the scout's eyes scanning over the temple and the priests therein "I give you the choice: Surrender to me and carry your gods with you into captivity, to be safe and honored in Sparta, or die here and have them melted down into baubles to be tossed to camp followers and catamites!" Behind him a brawl broke out, but stout Ajax was there to guard his flank and the massive mercenary was there to protect his back. Any good soldier knew to trust the men beside him, and this melee was no different - if a bit warmer - than the hundreds he'd experienced thus far.
While the youth looked for glory, however, he knew the purpose of war "We honor the gods through victory, through wisdom, and prestige" echoed the voice of his father from a dusty memory "There is nothing more grand than making the enemy your own, taking their wisdom, their skill, and even their gods and making them serve your own" Songs would be sung of those who fell and those who survive, but his sons would grow wise and strong from the teachings of Troy, and Sparta would become renowned as a the center of upright morality that they were... finally surpassing those flattering Athenians in even this last arena.

Nikia has no plans to involve himself in Agememnon's machinations - his concern lay with Horkos. His own king had sworn an oath to protect Helen and what kind of loyal man were he, should he allow that mischievous daemon upset the oath, or at least to be there as witness to its falter.
He moves stealthily to avoid detection by Agememnon, but to stay close enough to hear the man's words and witness the man's actions.

Nikias and IanthaNikias, we'll say Agamemnon didn't give you any instruction, because you certainly hid. Iantha, as long as you don't crit-fail you'll be able to sneak as well. It's an active battle, after all. Due to the need to slow down, both of you will hear all of this. I will allow one sentence each of communication without another stealth roll. After that, again, just don't crit fail.
Only one gate is open. I'm not sure what your plan was.
Let go of me! she hisses. You promised -
Odysseus promised! My vow was to protect my brother's marriage. That means you.
Helen spits in his face.
[ +- ] Nikias info
Horkus nods. Frankly, no matter which way this gets cut, Odysseus is getting screwed. If Helen doesn't go home, all the kings of Greece have failed. But if she does, technically only Odysseus is held accountable for his broken oath about leaving her alone.

Kouru in the templeHe speaks truth. They'll desecrate our bodies and our altars if we don't comply.
She slumps to the base of the statue. A couple of the older priests already came to that conclusion, but the younger servants cry out in protest.
Of course, then Tiwaz bursts in, and after he lands his first blow on prince Polites, they change their tune.
OOC:
I'll let you know when Polites is slain in this train of thought.[ +- ] Ajax Being Creepy
Interesting tactic. I prefer mine a bit more......versatile.
Hm? The woman stirs, her eyes a normal brown again. I...what? No... please! I serve Athena Parthenos - you can't!
That's not how surrendering works. He drops her on the ground and throws his shield at the statue, knocking it down with a crash. He looms over the woman with a smug grin. Better? Now she won't see.

"... he's joking. Here. Now. With the entire city on Fire" ... apparently he wasn't. "Soldier" he'd begin as his spear snapped out to rest on Ajax's shoulder "That belongs to Sparta. And we don't have time. Go find glory and plunder elsewhere, and I will give you a tenth of my share of the plunder for your... trouble once we are done." As he stood calm but ready, the rough lessons of his father echoed once again through time "Never get into a fight you can't win, and never win a fight you don't have to have." He didn't know Ajax, other than the fact that he shared a name with the Prince of Salamis, now gone and burned like so many others "There is a palace and princesses yet waiting for you"

As Iantha catches up to Nikias, he takes a breath and nods to her. Blessed warrior, luck be on my side with her here, he thinks. "My king Osysseus gave an oath, that Helen would be left alone," he says quietly. He doesn't know whether Iantha would help him in this, but he hopes she understands, at least.

OOC:
Kouru and Ajax[ +- ] I have yet to find a flattering account of Ajax the Lesser.
Ajax brushes the spear off his shoulder. It's not about quantity. It's quality. This is one of Priam's daughters. The crazy one, but still a princess. We got here first. I offered you first right of refusal out of courtesy. So now I'm taking what's rightfully mine.
While he seethes, the young woman attempts to crawl to safety, only to be kicked by the soldier. You make the connection that she was the "Cass" speaking with Helen outside the horse.
"Ajax the Lesser", he growls. I am sick and tired of being defined by everyone else. Of being second place even by name. He shoves you, which under other circumstances, from a different soldier, would be a harmless thing, but it's clearly a threat now. He grabs Cassandra's wrist and yanks her towards him. This time I know I'll be first.
He wrenches her arm behind her and pushes her towards an alcove, his mind made up.
Raging stormclouds! Scattered shields! Death on the rocks!
[ +- ] The results of that religion check way back that I said I'd get to.
Yeah, this gal is crazy, but it doesn't take a genius to see that doing that, to one of Athena's, would be a grave crime against the temple. A "wrath of the gods" kind of crime.
OOC:
You'll need to roll to proceed, whether diplomacy (at a high DC) or an attack (with his back to you). Mar 24, 2023 4:24 pm
The warrior slips in behind Nikias, nodding back ready to follow his lead.
As Nikias opts to announce himself she steps out behind him a stern look on her face but let's him do the talking, making it clear from her posture that Nikias had her backing if a fight broke.
A promise was a promise. Even if it was only Odyessus who said the words the intent was clear, and it was a dishonour to break that.

Nikias steps forth to reveal himself. "Mighty Agamemnon, Nikias Spyros stands in observance of your actions. Mighty Agamemnon, who lays his hands on one defenseless with such force. Nikias Spyros stands as proxy of his King, Odysseus, who swore an oath that Helen be unharmed and unhindered. Odysseus King who most surely would balk at his loyal servant allowing this oath to be forsworn. Perhaps, Wise King, we might return to the field of battle and taste in our triumph, leaving such oaths fulfilled." Though his weapon and shield are drawn, he does not indicate a threatening gesture - merely a hopeful suggestion. He is glad to have Iantha at his side.
