[CLOSED] Recruiting: 5e 5lvl prelim game

I'm inviting players to play a short DnD 5e game that would have potential to continue as Tomb Of Annihilation Chapter 3.

Pitch for prelim game: your PC is part of expedition searching the abandoned "forbidden city". It will finish when you finally discover the city (which is beginning of Chapter 3 in ToA). You will discover an abandoned location/town with a pointer to the abandoned city and you will also fight some random encounter or two on your way.

Duration: hope to do this in a month

Character restriction: Most of non PHB races (and non PHB subraces) will not be allowed, but feel free to ask me I may allow some exceptions

Player experience: 5e experience is required. Experience playing lvl 5 or above is recommended. We are beginning with lvl 5 and encounters are brutal - it could be overwhelming for less experienced players.

Game peace: I expect players to be able to post every working day. Fridays included. I do understand that exceptions may happen but I would like players to at least try to visit the game daily.

How to Apply: Post here to get invite or just apply in game page For this prelim game everyone are welcome until I close this thread. I hope to set up a few groups of 2-3 players and run them in parallel threads, but each will face their own unique encounter(s).

I'd like to take a stab at it.

I'm thinking... human bard/warlock should give me a solid base. Might see if I can use a Strixhaven background for a little extra magical versatility.

In the main adventure> will we be leveling up (milestone?) as we play? What level will we reach?

Rules are no problem all in all.

Spoiler about the main game: chapter 4 is supposed to begin with PC lvl at least 7. Chapter 5 - lvl 9. We will hardly finish chapter 3 by the end of this year though.

Just joined the forums. Played a good amount of 5e, of there is room, I'd love to join the adventure. Open to any class that isn't a fighter.

Having played ToA I have one question. What Is your plan for reinforcements?

This module killed so many players it is outright comical. My home group averaged 1.8 deaths per biweekly session. In PbP I expect it to be far more lethal as the lack of coordination works against the players.

Yes I did forget to warn everyone - you will need backup characters and be ready that not every combat is possible to win.

I see Chapter 3 least brutal. At least in my currently run game it is a about once every two sessions.

Anyways, in this PBP game I have altered the book to have main patron hire multiple teams rather than one. It makes sense story wise as she have no idea of the location and it will help with both - reinforcement and reason I am splitting prelim game players into teams. You could reach me in private for more details if that sound something you may borrow.

Ill play a Barbarian Zealot for now then. Probably human.

Does the death curse negate the 3rd level ability?

At 3rd level, your soul is marked for endless battle. If a spell, such as Raise Dead, has the sole effect of restoring you to life (but not undeath), the caster doesn't need material components to cast the spell on you.

If so can we just replace it with totem spirit?

It does not negate ability, it makes it useless because spells such as Raise Dead just don't work

Would love a chance to hop in. Been a bit since i've been able to play a pbp game :) I'm good to play Cleric or anything needed. Have experience playing to level 15 in 5E and gm'ing. Let me know if there's still space :D
