Khaguran reals under the sudden wave of nausea as the magical energies of the Border play havoc with his thoughts and senses. He collapses to the ground trying valiantly not to end up in a puddle of any sort of body fluids. As the pain subsides and he becomes increasingly aware of his surroundings again he takes stoke of things.

Other than the doorway and stairs there is a simple chest, table and two chairs. Outside the door is no longer the wooded hills he just came from but a distorted image of grey misty covered hills barely discernable through the now obvious and clearly dangerous Border. According to what Khaguran knows Border that are this strong can be dangerous but there are methods to cross them safely with careful observation and timing. Now is not a good time. He can try and leave now or watch and wait for a better time to leave. One other thing known about Borders is that repeated crossings will make individuals more resistant to their adverse affects but doing so while still suffering only compounds the suffering so he decides he had better wait at least until the headache dissipates.

Since he has time Khaguran heads to the stairs as he hears a sound coming from behind himself. Turning around he sees a human step, grimacing from the affects of the Border . . .
OOC:
@Rizado96 / Khaguran, say hello to @daryen / Skeve
Skeve had been watching the Duede (halfling/hobbit/goblin) for a few minutes before the figure entered the tower ruins. Skeve had come across the wagon trail earlier that day and though it was obviously not used often it had been used recently. Having wandered the Shattered lands for a while Skeve had lost track of the closest settlements due some unfortunate shifts in the Borders. As Skeve watched the Duende approach and enter the tower obviously preparing to settle down for the night he decides this looks to be a good opportunity to introduce himself.

As Skeve approaches the tower his magical senses give warning that the tower is within an oddly small border. Having watched the Duende enter the tower only a minute ago but not seeing him withing Skeve is certain this Border is not only odd in its size but nature as well. Taking a breath his steps through the doorway.
OOC:
@daryen give me a save for Skeve with Focus if you want as you are experienced with Borders and their effects

OOC:
Let's see if I get the die rolls correct ... He is using Focus.
I just used Add at the bottom of the page. If I need to do it differently, just let me know.

OOC:
I posted a bit about roll on the chat thread here Let me know if that is unclear to either of you
To Kharguran the newcomer seems to not suffer nearly as bad as he had.
To Skeeve this crossing seems worse, and affects him more that one has in quite some time.

As Skeeve stumbles and falls to his knees he look up at Kharguran with a faint smile and hold a hand out to wait a moment and allow him to collect himself.
Apr 2, 2023 1:47 am
Once he gains his breath, Skeeve states, "Hello friend. I've hit enough of these Borders that I have lost my bearings. I saw you and hoped you know where the next settlement is."

He then adds, "This transition was terrible. I hope this space isn't dangerous, too."

OOC:
I read it and think I have it now. We'll find out whenever I have to roll next.

Khaguran is a small, sallow-skinned fella with a wiry build and sharp features. He's dressed in simple homespun clothes and a travel-stained cloak.

"Howdy, traveler. You're not kidding, I can't remember the last time a crossing was that bad. I'm afraid I can't say how far we are from any kind of civilization. These parts are unfamiliar. I've been tracking a wagon train on the track nearby for some days and haven't passed through any proper towns--just the odd homestead or two."
OOC:
Good to be adventuring with you, @daryen .

OOC:
Oh! Right! Forgot Skeeve's description.
Skeeve is of medium size for a human (about 5'10") and of medium build. He has fair skin and average looks, with brown hair. The one unusual aspect are his deep green irises, the permanent visual markers of his time with the fey. He is also dressed in simple drab brown clothes with a well-worn hooded cloak. Over the cloak is his simple backpack containing and carrying his equipment.

"Well, since we both need to wait for a bit before we should cross again, do you want to check this space out?"
OOC:
Good to adventure with you, too. Thank you for allowing me to join you on your walkabout!

LOL, I love the lego avatar.
Other than the chairs and basic table the first floor holds little of interest except the chest. The stone stairs now lead up to the 2nd floor. Cautiously opening the chest shows it to contain a small writing kit with paper, ink, and a pen, along with a jug, a couple of cups, flint and steel,, tinder for a fire, and a set of keys. A small stone fireplace sits empty under the stairs and though backend from previous fires is clean of any debris at this time.

Skeeve says, "I suggest grabbing the keys and checking out upstairs. That sound like a plan?"
OOC:
Thank you!
As an aside, is it safe to assume the flint and steel are irrelevant to anyone with Spell-Touched? I figure making a spark with magic shouldn't be a big deal. So lighting a camp or cooking fire, or lighting a torch or lamp should just be a thought.

OOC:
Spell touched use magic for simple tasks including lighting fires. However there are rare zones of chaos and null that make magic hard to control or impossible to use. But they are rare. Most spell touched learn to do mundane tasks as a backup.

"Took the words out of my mouth."

I'll ready a stone in my sling on the off chance there's anything hostile lodging in the top of the tower, then proceed up the stairs. I don't mind to take point unless Skeve has a particular desire to.

Skeeve is perfectly fine with Khaguran leading up the stairs. He follows closely behind.
Apr 4, 2023 2:55 am
As you ascend the stairs you note that there appears to be daylight coming from somewhere above. The bright yellow light of daylight fills the second story forcing you to blink as your head pass the 2nd story floor. Three window open and one of them is letting in the morning light. Another shows full day while the last has the dull reds of a setting sun. The stairs continue up on the far side of the room which has a simple table with 3 stools. Atop the table rest a spyglass, paper, and more writing implements. However the ink has been knocked over and has soaked into the pages. On the section of the tower without the stairs up or down is a cabinet Several doors to the cabinet are open and other shelves are open, all of which are empty. There is however a lock securing a larger door on the cabinet.
Apr 4, 2023 1:34 pm
Skeeve will try the keys he grabbed downstairs to open the locked cabinet door.

(If he didn't grab it, then he'll go back down to get them and come back up.)

Skeeve will also be distracted by the three windows. They all show completely different times. He wants to see if they also show different locations.
Apr 4, 2023 4:49 pm
The key ring has four very distinct keys and you easily identify the key and unlock the cabinet. Inside you see 4 crossbows and a dirty dagger. One of the crossbows has no bow string and is set by itself to one side with the dagger.

Looking out the windows you see that the scene out the window at dusk appears to be where you came from with low rolling hills covered by heavily wooded forests. The other two windows show similar settings but the hills in the dawn scene are larger with smaller trees while the window showing mid day has hills about in between the dawn and dusk scenes and the trees are starting to fill in.
Apr 5, 2023 8:53 pm
Even with all that he has seen in his short life, he is amazed by the view of the three windows! "Wow! We are looking out at the same area that are in three very different times! We probably need to remember to look out the door to make sure we are going to our correct time before we blindly rush out."

Assuming there is nothing else to look at on this floor, Skeeve says, "Ready to go up to the next floor and see what its windows show?"

Skeeve isn't worried about the items right now. He figures they will have to come back down before they can leave. Might as well see what all is here before trying to figure out what to swipe.
Apr 6, 2023 3:17 am
"That's a good note; I don't suppose it will help my chances of catching up to the wagon train if we go waltzing into the distant past.

Before we continue, just to satisfy my own curiosity..."

Khaguran examines a few of the items in the room:

The dagger. Is it just rusty, or soiled with something? And if there's some substance on it, how fresh does it seem?

The paper. Is there any discernable writing at all, or has the ink completely covered the pages?

The spyglass. Khaguran picks it up, examines its construction, and then looks through it out of each of the three windows in turn.

Sorry for the delay! IRL is keeping me on my toes at the moment, but I will certainly endeavor to be more mindful about posting.

The dagger sheath is covered in oil and the handle is slightly tacky. Taking it out the bladed drops oil. Continuously. It seems to be generating it slowly.
The paper had long since absorbed the ink which had dried and there are no traces of writing to be found.
The spyglass is of good quality and made of brass. The view with the spyglass reveals details that you missed before. The scenes seem to flicker. What you took for wind moving the trees turns to be the trees growing and withering in an oddly disappointed and possibly cyclical manner. Watching to closely behind to give you a headache.
Apr 6, 2023 1:11 pm
When the effects of the looking glass are mentioned, Skeeve will also take a look. He hands the brass glass back and says, "We probably ought to hold onto this!"

With the dagger, spyglass, and keys in hand you hear upstairs again. The third floor has 3 old and crumbling beds with small open top boxes underneath, small windows between them, and a ladder to a trap door on the ceiling. The storage under each bed holds a mismatch of ruined articles. The only thinks identifiable are a set of gaming bones (think very rough dice) and a few small and rusted metal items. Candle holder, Flint and steel, needles, a couple of tins that holds some sort of salve or powder.

The four windows show similar scenes though slightly different than the second floor. Finding nothing of interest you climb the ladder and carefully open the trap door by releasing the latch and shoving it up.

The area above the tower forms an odd done as the space just beyond is trusted and warped. With a pandemic view you more see the surrounding in a click like fashion. Standing in the middle and slowly turning your can chicken through a day outside the tower, dawn, morning, noon, afternoon, evening, sunset, and night before returning to dawn.

OOC:
When we first looked at the weird view for the first time it looked like we could see views from different time periods. Does that effect still work here? Also, when we looked on the second floor things seemed to go backwards in time. Is that effect still here? And with the panoramic view, can we twisted it around and look forward in time?
Skeeve will take some time to experiment with the panoramic view to see if they can gain any additional information. He will also suggest that Khaguran try to use the spyglass and time effects to see if he can find his caravan.
