Anyway what we need is some better intel on the areas beyond the swamp. Head west out of the base and then when you get past the swamp immediately head south then loop a bit east then north and then back to base. So your area is to the south and west of the swamp. Try to stay out of sight. The kobolds are the main force in that area and we have avoided having any trouble with them, so don't start any. Moth of the other groups in the area seem to not like us. So I suggest you try and avoid them but take note of where you see anyone and what they are up to.
He hands you a basic map of the area and a small charcoal pencil to add notes to while scouting.
So are we scouting south of location F and then west?
Danoll

Tell you what, you can pick. The west of the south swamps or south swamps

Emilia Quartz, at your service.
She adjusted the travelling coat, presenting herself, and joined the gathering to listen to instructions. After coming to understand the general idea, young mercenary would adress Danoll:
Since my personal steed can tread even in less favorable conditions, I could reconnaissance a wide territory and gather general intel, however I believe swamp waters are mine natural enemy, so to speak: where I can scout off Clockwork's back, we should share the responsibilities and look into our available tools to make most of what we have.
She said, before glancing at the veteran and adding quickly after, Sir.

With a satisfied grin, she puts her writing implements away and sidles forward.
She takes in the one she surmises is a scout, then stares wide-eyed first at the pointy-eared one and then at the horsy ... thing - "I wonder if he/she is fun to ride?" she wonders - before turning hastily away.
She says in a slightly squeaky voice, "Soooo kobolds and smelly swamps to the south, and dinosaurs and Rem rem something west? Sounds exciting!" She clears her throat and continues in a slightly more secure voice, "Apart from the swamps anyway ..."

OK we have an updated request if you are heading that way. He traces out a couple of paths on the map.

Tracing a slightly different path (pink) And we need to work on this here in the swamp
Finally tracing a short route on the grass lands So we can get a good road to the library for when we start work in there. and he taps "B"
Why don't you go over those two new sections and make sure there aren't any surprises for the construction teams that will be starting in a day or two. There is a bit in the swamp but is is a known route with decent footing, that we plan to improve. And if you can't handle a little mud, I am sorry to say you may be in the wrong line of work and he gives Emilia and Arry a flat look.
He goes over the area and answers any questions you may have before seeing you off.
The road leads to a fork with a simple wooden guard tower and a suspension and pontoon bridge connecting it to another watch tower to the west. A smaller track heads to the south, to the Grippli shamans mound. Greeting you the two guards wave you on through as you continue west and remind you the waters and thick vegetation hide a variety of local wildlife. These threats range from large alligators, swarms of fish that will strip you to the bones in seconds, poisonous snakes, and the ever-present flies.
The road continues on the far side of the second tower, which is taller and of sturdier construction with four guards. As you travel you see a variety of plant and animal life. Snakes, insects, frogs, lizards, water rats, squirrels, and an occasional larger beast known as dinosaurs. These large beasts are often hunted for meat by many of the intelligent species that moved into the area causing most of them to have learned to not wander too close to the road. Turning north then west you continue on following the path.
According to the map back at the base you leave the road and head south on a small animal track that had been expanded and packed down with regular traffic from payrolls is scouts like you. You begin moving more cautiously as your are forced to occasionally sloughing through thick mud, semi-solid ground, floating grasses, and a variety of other wonders of nature.
Everyone make a test for how well you move through the swamp and deal with its dangers.
A basic 2d6 unless you have a trait, heritage, or trade that could help in the wilds

Arry | Duende | Bard lore keeper | cheerleader |
Emilia | Human | Clock smith (tinker/engineer) | light cavalry (rifle) |
Tuit | Duende | Miner (earth/construction/minerals) | MMA brawler |
So did Preslynn live alone out in the country side while studying nature/magic? If nature or something similar then sure 3d6

Preslyn is by far the most exprienced in woodlore though Arry seem at least comfortable in the wilds. Though none are truely familiar with swamps you all manage to stay on the trail and mostly mud free, so far.
You wind south taking note of the animals in the area. Few dinosaurs come to the swamps anymore du to the expedition hunters targeting them, as larger and somplier prey, but you spt several aligators and a few other aquatic dinosaurs. The trail shows signs of frequent passage, helping you stay on track, as you follow it south.
Still waiting on Emilia's swamp trek test I will move the sotry on after she rolls this test
I will put DM questions/comments/instructions for characters in purple text and use the OOC for comunication with the players
I try to let eveyone be involved in the story but often move it along when al least half have posted if I feel there is little needed from the characters at that time. This is just to keep th estory moving so feel free to speak up if you feel you are getting skipped or want to react to somthing I just moved away from. (I can always copy/past posts and retcon if needed)
I know some peope subscribe to threads and post online when they get email updates to their threads. If you are doing this you should be following at least 2 threads : the sotry (this one) and your personal player/character thread but I would also suggest following the Chat thread.
When a player is taged, like @Psybermagi it adds a linked notice to the gamersplane home page for that player. This can be done by typig it out or using the Page or box with lines icon (second from the right) to add it. Some mobile devices will let you tap it to view the menu but others require you to tap & hold to view the menu. Besides listing all the players this menu also lets you tag them with the @ as well as post Notes and Private text. Both of these can only be viewed by the sender and those included in it's to list. Notes are visible as a grey box to all not addressed in it while Private text is entirely hidden.
The ~Tiny Info~ also has a bunch of information for quick reference and can be accessed by tapping the grey button below the Rolls section

I need a marching order front/middle/back
I also need you to tell me of any precautions or activities you are taking as you scout the area along and around the path to the Library.
She reaches for the reassuring presence of her trusty sling, sidles up to the elf, points in the direction of the creatures and whispers, "Mister! What are those over there? Are they playing? Chasing each other? Are we in any danger?"

The ones being chase turn out to be goblins. They have lost a few of their numbers but still have more than 10 and are rushing to the north.

The hunters are identified as kobolds with the various packs lead by mages or heavily armored warriors and accompanied by a few squads of winged kobolds. All told there are over 30 kobolds.

It is all too clear the goblins will fall. You know from talk back at the base that the goblins have had several fights with the Expedition but so far the kobolds have remained neutral through there are reports of attempted extortion as they demand tribute to their "ancestor" who is rumored to be an ancient black dragon. No one has apparently seen this dragon though several have reportedly talked with it is a cave guarded by the kobolds.
As the fight rages on the flying kobolds are getting closer and closer to your position as the whirl over the fight. Suddenly one circles over your position then flies back to the fight and calls out to the other kobolds below gesturing in your direction.
"Anyone have anything shiny that might encourage them to *not* skewer us?"
Hey there! We do not want any conflict. We are just having a look, seeing what’s around the new library.
Scaled sorcerer

Pay tribute to our ancestor and we will let you go
Though this speech the kobold stares at you intently as the Shield Bearer stand at it's side and the rest spread out to either side.

Very well, sing me a song and i will decide if it is a worthy tribute
He then explains about his ancestor, an ancient black dragon who has lived thousands of years and live and presides over a great jungle and swamp fat to the south west. The drain has fought fey, Elementals, monsters, and even abominations key loose during the war.....
@palemantle you roll a test, 3d6 due to your Gaborone, with any details or roll play you wish th add to it
"I'm going to call this one, The King over the Jungle, and I hope you approve," she says with a grin and launches into song.
There once was a dragon
With razor-like talon
For long did he slumber
Countless years without number
The king over the jungle (refrain ...)
Endless were his foe
Though they did dare grow
His eye finally opens
As large they're as wagons
The king over the jungle (refrain ...)
His scales black as night
When finally he took flight!
His wings he would furl
His talons he would curl
The king over the jungle (refrain ...)
To his foes he was a blight
A slash of terrible night
He was a veritable dervish
In the hundreds they perish
The king over the jungle (refrain ...)
Abominations, elementals and the fey
Unnumbered monsters he does slay
Their hearts are filled with dread
For all his foes he will shred
The king over the jungle (refrain ...)
I see his sons before me (this sung while pointing to the kobolds arrayed near them)
Near the black gnarled tree
I hope this song does please
The kobolds amidst the trees
The king over the jungle (refrain ...)
The king over the jungle (refrain ...)
The king over the jungle (refrain ...)
The king over the jungle (refrain ...)
Also, I wasn't sure if I should be spoilering that ditty for brevity's sake. Apologies for the post length.

The initial chase is long gone with only the trampled grass indicating it was ever here. After another check around the area you move across to the area around the library. Walls surround the library Remnant that are well over 30 feet high and several hundred feet long. The tops of the wall have odd floating spheres attacked by thin whires floating and bobbing in the breeze. Each wall has a double door set into the middle. Aroudn the Remant, and along the way, you see ocasional ruble form destroyed structures Only the Remnant appear to have weathered the raveges of the Breaking and time since then.
Having reached the library you have a general idea of the route to and from the base and the existing path seems to follow the best route. Job done you can return and report or do a bit more scouting of the area. You know another party of scouts is already checking out the Library and hae heard odd stories about the Remnants that have withstood the ravages of the Breaking and time since then. What would you like to do?
As they approach the library, she stares open-mouthed at (what's to her) the towering walls with the bits and bobs on top. She sketches the Remnant, puts her book away and asks, "So can we walk around and see a bit more of that ... or should we go back and tell them about the ... dinosaurs, the gobbies and the kobolds?"

2. return for new assignment (going to a new Remnant archeology and combat)
3. return before heading to the Infinite Tower (role play and fetch quest)

I've got a small preference for #3 > #1 > #2 > #4 from the options above.
Everyone roll initiative, 1d6+1d6. If the total is above 6 you can do both actions, otherwise your character can only do 1 action this round.
