[ +- ] CustomX 5e Character Sheet
Here's where you sort out your concept. Please use our private threads for specific questions and extra die rolls.

Starting Stats: Custom Array (17, 15, 15, 13, 13, 10)
Note: PCs with less than a 13 in INT, cannot summon or bind entities of any Ethos and any attempt to pick up and use or attune to items of greater value than +1, will automatically give them a -1 to their contested WIS save against the said item (-2 if the item is +3).

Hit Points: Max at 1st level. Roll for each subsequent level and take roll or the average (whichever is higher)

Races allowed: Aasimar, Aetherborn, Cyborg, Dhampir, Eldren (elves, dark elves, shadar-kai - no eladrin), Genasi, Goliath, Humans, Lesser Medusa, Moonfolk, Nocthelians, Tiefling (use heritages and/or random traits), Yuan-Ti Pureblood

Classes not Allowed: Artificers, Druids, Barbarians, or Bloodhunters
Classes Modified: Ranger

Subclasses Restricted (no fey or djinn patrons or archetypes)

Starting Level: 11th

Magic Items allowed/restricted: Any magic item with a bonus of +2 or +3 contains a bound demon or virtue. This includes any Feat or class ability that allows the PC to gain a +2 weapon or armor.

Items that summon entities, can as Elemental Command items, can only function for individuals who can normally summon/bind that particular TYPE of entity. These items do, however, speed the process for summoners of the proper entity involved to perform a summoning.

Starting Magic Items

1x Very Rare item.
2x Rare items.
2x Uncommon items.
2x Common items.

Includes expensive material components by value

3x Common consumables. (50 - 100 gp)
3x Uncommon consumables. (101 - 500 gp)
3x Rare consumables. (501 - 5,000 gp)
1x Very Rare consumable. (5,001 - 50,000 gp)

PCs may start with 15,000 gp worth of wealth to buy other equipment and normal (non-magical) items as needed

Alignment: Standard alignments are not in use. PCs must choose either, Law, Chaos, or Neutrality

Each PC is given points equal to a total of their three mental attribute bonuses plus their proficiency bonus to divide amongst these to show their devotion levels. A PC must assign at least 1 pt. in Neutrality (Balance) or be fanatically insane. To fully benefit from Law and Chaos (Able to use technology and summoning) a PC must assign a balance of alignment points. This is realized with at least nine points.

IE: Law 3 - Neutrality 3 - Chaos 3

Law - Order, structure, virtues, technology
Chaos - Creation, freedom, demons, magic
Neutrality - Balance

Inspiration (Luck): PCs begin with 3 pts. These can be used to re-roll any failed 1d20 roll. The maximum number of points a single PC can have at once is 5.

I am building a Feral Tiefling Soulknife Rogue with a 1 lvl dip into either Shadow Sorcerer or Bard. Just trying to settle on the better option.

That's a lot of rogues. Would it be good if I audibled into a full bard or cleric?
Jun 23, 2023 7:35 pm
Lol!

Whichever you want to do. I want everyone to be able to play a character they will enjoy. BTW, if you go Cleric I have more information on the Lords of Law and Chaos I could link up in the section on them.

May I ask what the Hexblade warlock will focus on? Melee or EB? I was thinking of going pact of the chain warlock, but I've got some other ideas as well.

Also, can I get a sense of the party's alignment? I tend to veer towards goodly characters, especially in a somewhat dark setting like this, but if everyone else is neutral/evil, I'd rather playing something else.

Taj is definitely more focused on melee and physical combat than EB. She doesn't even have EB as an invocation.

We're not using D&D alignments. The PCs are on a scale shifting between Law & Chaos. Each PC is given points based on their mental stats to put into that scale.

I fully expect the group will have those dedicated to Law, Chaos, and Neutrality.

Is Blood Hunter class allowed? I see that cyborgs is an allowed race, so what's the setting like for guns?
Jun 24, 2023 12:59 am
Bloodhunter, no.

The rules on guns can be found in the Allowed Content subforum, under the Technology thread.

Not sure if this is where I’m supposed to post this, but here’s my character concept so far:

I’m not 100% sure about classes, though at the moment I’m leaning towards either Paladin or Bard. He’ll most likely be human, or some other "plain" race, as I think it lends best to the tragic persona.

The character is a person with some sort of magical curse. It’s something that affects his skin, kinda like a leperous disease but where the skin rots away, and since it’s magical it heals overnight and repeats in the morning. He contracted the disease during an archaeological excavation with his parents, so think of like a mummy’s curse or something befalling him. It wipes away his family bloodline, but he alone survived. He reeks of rotting flesh, and wears a mummy-like strips to help him soothe the pain. The characteris very much like a tragic hero type, the nobleman with the tragic family history who lost everything, and even his body is physically marred.

The curse effects his whole body, and by night time it even effects his throat/vocal chords, giving him a rather husky voice. This actually gives him a unique voice, and he makes a living as a sort of traveling singer performer. Think of like a Phantom of the Opera type of thing.

Being of noble birth, he does have helpers. I’ll do the whole cohort/follower kind of thing where he has these loyal servant-like helpers. Maybe they even perform as well, which means they’ll need the Performance skill.

Anyway, they’re driven to find a cure, and restore the family name back to prominence.

Does this sound like it could fit in…?

@grifter730,

Paladins are immune to things like Mummy Rot from 3rd level. I also wonder the viability of a bard whose voice is best when he stinks the most. Would his audience endure the smell of rotting flesh to hear his performance? These are questions I have about the proposed concept you've posted.
Jun 24, 2023 10:49 am
Lolol good point, though perhaps he can use some minor spells to keep down the smell. I dunno, doesn’t have to be a performer, the idea was mainly to give him something to do as he travels from place to place. Gotta earn a living somehow. But clearly I need to think about it deeper.

Also, Remove Curse is only a 3rd level spell. An 11th level Cleric, Wizard, or Paladin could cast it. I guess that the curse could return after a short period and will only end if certain criteria are met in a ritual or appeasement to whatever was offended?
Jun 24, 2023 11:30 am
What if the curse comes from the same power that grants the paladin their power? The 'cure' is going out in the world and spreading the tenants of the faith...or vow of the paladin to tie it to a game mechanic.

In Pathfinder, Oracles are cursed by their patron. Maybe this paladin has to feel the pain he is healing in the world?

Yeah I know about Remove Curse, I just figured that there could always be edge cases, like an epic level curse or something. It’s easy enough to house-rule a special curse for backstory purposes.

Concept slowly coming together. Cyborg Monk Gearhead. In a nutshell an augmented (human?) lol... that Jean Claude movie just popped into my head!

I agree with Red's suggestion of the Curse being something that can be relieved with Remove Curse for a period of time, before returning. the only way to cure it completely is to make an atonement for the wrong that caused the curse to be inflicted.

My question would be why did the curse kill all of their kin, but instead inflicted eternal suffering on him (her)?
