The Sacrifice Camp (RP)

Roald listens in silence to the scouting reports. When everyone is done speaking he says:
'' So no one has seen the girl, that's a pity. If we'd know where they are keeping her we could try something stealthy and avoid a fight. I guess that's out of the question now.''

He closes his eyes for a couple of seconds and prays in silence. He is still a bit uncomfortable saying the words out loud.
Raynor protect us from getting hurt, guide us to Victory

Norberts' hart sinks at Roalds' words. He also closes his eyes and his shoulders sag. "If there is no other way." He says and grips his axe.

"Are we all going together or do we spilt up to get Theo first?"
Jul 23, 2023 6:34 pm
"Poor you." The woman scoff at Norbert's objection that 'some of them know his mother'. "One of them is my mother." This obviously complicates her acting against them, but also has broader implications about her abandoning the whole affair.

"I can go watch them for you." Limpy offers eagerly.

The lone oak tree was on the far side of the clearing, it is the only oak in this area and maybe puts you in mind of the similar seeming location where Olaf met with Nixon. [ref]

"It's your friends' lives at peril so this is just a suggestion," says Olden. "Sounds to me like someone could get Theo out while they are ... distracted," the last said while subconsciously fingering his mallet and what looks like a slim jim tool. "Wouldn't pay for them to grab him again."

Olden then looks thoughtfully at the woman, starts saying something before subsiding into silence.

Albert nods to Olden "You're right. Theo should be gotten as soon as possible. He needs medical attention urgently." He looks around. "I'm not sure that this is a good place to set up a base of operation. It might be too easy for them to find."

He thinks for a minute. Then speaks up again. "Here's my idea. 2 or 3 of us head to the other side of this 'village' and start a campfire. Put lots of pine branches on it to cause a lot of smoke. The others wait near the cage until they see the smoke and notice that the witches are distracted. That's the time to go free Theo. The first group will then circle back to help the others escape safely." He looks around the group for input.

"What do you think?"

"Um..." Dylan mutters. "What about Phil... and the girl?" He adds quickly, as though he may have forgotten about her again.

Limpy looks up at the sun, which is soon going to be directly overhead. "When do you think the ... um... thing will happen? I always pictured it as a 'midnight, under the full-moon deal', right? But then you say they are already dancing now?"

Your prisoner scoff at this last part, as if trying to elevate herself over the 'stupid male assumptions'.

"Is it a good idea to give the witches a sign we are here? Why not surprise them? The cages did not seem to be guarded? Why the diversion?" Norbert responds to Albert. "If we all go to Theo, set him free and then go on to the witches we won't lose any extra time. When did they plan for the sacrifice to start, uhm ... lady." directing the last sentence at the young still naked lady under the coat.

"Of course" Albert tells Daryl (/Dylan? ;) ) "We'll get them too. But it appears getting Theo might be a quick and easy thing. We should take advantage of that before continuing."

"Well, just because we didn't see a guard when we were looking, doesn't mean there isn't one around somewhere." He replies to Norbert's suggestion. "But you may be right. It would save us time and effort to go only for the cage."
Jul 28, 2023 7:14 am
'' OK, let us all go for the cage first, maybe Theo has extra information about Phil and the girl.''

Roald stands and tightens his sword belt. He unsheaths his sword and tests the edge with his thumb. Being the son of a butcher he is used to keeping his blades sharp but lately he has been neglecting the maintenance.

'' Mighty fine job Olden, thank you very much.''

After a few test swings he puts it back in the sheath.

''Are you going to give us trouble err.. what did you say your name was?

If not you are welcome to join us, I'm afraid I don't have any spare clothes except for the cloak though.''
Jul 28, 2023 8:37 am
"You're welcome, Roald," says Olden as a small smile quirks his lips.

"I think she ... likes you," he whispers theatrically, "So you're as good a candidate to keep an eye on her as any."

He looks around more generally and asks, "How can I help? I can take care of locks on the cage, if any, and can give Theo a hand with healing."

I pray we're in time to save them, Selusia, he thinks as he starts muttering parts of his ...

TheGenerator says:
... Daryl (/Dylan? ;) ...
OOC:
Whoops. Wrong game. There is no 'Daryl' here. This is not a Asha/Ahsa situation, just a typo.
"Hmm... 'Lady'. I like that." Your prisoner says, she reaches out a hand to the dog, but pulls it back before getting too close. She does not yet trust you, and does not give her name.
OOC:
In the RP you guys did not give her your names either. Shall we assume you did introduce yourselves? She will not remember the details but it changes the tone.)
"I dunno." She answers the question about 'when'. "'was talk about 'lunchtime'?"

'Lunchtime' could be any time between 'now' and 'a few hours'.

"I dunno where they took my things." She looks lost and vulnerable at this admission. "I don' wanna go back there. Can I jus' stay here till you take me home?"

"Maybe it's best that we do keep her here. She might give us away otherwise." Albert says, not trusting the woman.
OOC:
Olden, Roald, Did you restrain her in any way?
Aug 4, 2023 1:13 am
Roald looks at the woman, she looks quite young.
"Allright, she can stay. I hope you will be here when we get back, you can tag along and we will keep you safe. I'm not going to tie you up or something, we are not that kind of people, or we try not to be anyway."

He looks at the rest, they all seem ready to go.

"Let's get a move on, lead the way Albert"

Lady looks at you sulkily when you say you are going to leave her, it is hard to tell what her reaction is to the talk of 'tying her up'. She folds her arms beneath the borrowed cloak but stays sitting on the ground.

As you approach the cage the Theo looks much the same as before --unconscious but breathing. There is movement in the trees on the far side, but you don't know if it is a lookout, someone wandering off for a pee-break, --or if they are looking in this direction if it is-- or something else or nothing at all.

You can scout around and check or wait till you are sure the coast is clear, but that will take time and the drumming and chanting has increased in intensity. Or you can risk going to get Theo now, you will have to be very quiet (with the lock, and the rusty door, and the poor boy) or risk being noticed.

"Right, there he is, see?" Albert tells the others when they reach Theo's location. "That cage looks pretty sturdy. Is anyone good at picking locks by chance?" He imagines chances of that are slim, but asks anyway.

"I still don't see any guards, it was like that a few minutes ago too. When Daryl and I were here." He takes another good look around. "It might be safe enough just to go and get him."

Olden unslings his shield, bows his head briefly against it, eyes closed, and then reseats said shield.

"As Albert says, we'd best grab Theo while we can. I can help with that lock," he says pointing at a padlock of unknown type on the cage. He starts talking in a low but almost eager sounding voice, pulling out a leather wallet from his belt and spreading out a variety of instruments including picks, pins, two files, a wrench and some skeleton keys.

"I know what you're thinking," he says wagging a finger and seeming to inspect the lock, "but this ain't it. You'll be surprised how many wanderers stop at wayfarers' shrines and complain about no longer being able to open the rusty old lock on Da's chest. The biggest problem is not the lock. It's in making sure that they really are travellers and not highwaymen come upon some booty."

"Someone keep watch while I work on the lock please. My hands aren't as nimble as they used to so be prepared to grab him and run if I slip and make a racket." With that he starts working on the padlock in earnest, discarding keys quickly, trying to pick one pin at a time and, when that fails, resorting to his trusted raking technique, face screwed up in concentration.

- Olden -

Unlike the old and stuck locks on your "travellers'" chests, this one was put on recently --after Daryl escaped. It looks like someone --Theo probably-- has tried to hit it with a rock --there is crumbled rock-dust below-- but you are able to repair it and get it open in no time.

The hinges are a bit rusty from being out in the rain of a few days ago, but a little preemptive oil stops them from squeaking very loudly as you open the door and allow the group to get to the unconscious Theo.

The cage is open without indecent, it does not seem like anyone noticed. Theo is 'free' but still unconscious, he does not respond to light stimuli.

"That does sound like something that would happen at a wayfarers." Albert agrees, though he's a little bit taken aback by the amount of tools that Olden keeps pulling out of his pockets. This man is prepared for any situation. I may need to step up my own game. He makes a mental note to ask Olden for some preparation tips somewhere down the line.

After a quick discussion on who does what, he goes with Olden to keep an eye out while he works on the lock. Turns out Olden is not just all talk. As if guided by a divine power, the lock opens without much resistance. "Well done, Olden. Seems like you were meant to join us." He smiles and pats the man on the back.

"Norbert, can you have the dog keep watch while we carry Theo to safety?" He steps into the cage to see how Theo is doing. "He's unconscious." Albert says, quite worried about the state Theo is in. "We should probably get him to safety before helping him, though. You never know when the women might show up."
