I'm working on an Aes Sedai character now...was thinking Blue.

How many weaves would I know at third level? You start with 6 at first level.

Jabes.plays.RPG says:
I was considering an Asha'man, but given our place on the timeline I guess playing a male channeler is a bad idea. :-D

EDIT: Reading through the PDF. Looks like it's Blademaster or Warder for me. :-)

EDIT: Holy crap, Wilder looks fun too! Although I was never much of a fan of The Kin when I was reading the books.
Are Asha'man off limits given the timeline?

The kind of are. I suppose that you could develope the ability to channel during the game, but it would make everyone around distrust/want to kill you, including the party. You certainly can't start off as on though, given the starting location... So maybe take two levels in another class and one in Asha'man and we will play it as you developing the ability to channel after leaving Tar Valon.

Also, as we're level 3 do we start with additional marks, or equivalent in gear?

According to the 5e rules you just start with base equipment.

I believe Aes Sedai learn 2 weaves per level of a level they know (but I'm not 100% I'll need to wait until I get home to check...)

Actually I got the Aes Sedai thing completely wrong. You start with 6 common weaves and 1 common talent and as you progress at 2, and I think 7th (the page has already started reloading so I can't double check) you learn additional talents and affinities (or some congruent word) that you qualify for. It states in the class descriptor that the talents as affinities grant additional weaves, but I didn't find them before the page reset, though I'd hazard a guess that they are either in a chapter of there own or at the end of the character description.

So we have a Woodsman, Asha'man, and Aes Sedai? Looks like I'm gonna be a warder! Or maybe a Blademaster...

Just leaving now, last post. I'm a gleeman.

My character is mostly done: Warder

Trying to decide between sword and shield or greatsword at the moment, and then I need my background information completed and he's all set.

I was actually considering a Shienaran Blademaster but really wanted to do some weaving so I'm probably going Wilder. Eventually go Asha'man if Gensisect and the story will allow it. :-)

I'm a Shienaran Warder, though I had strongly considered Blademaster (And still consider it a cooler class)

So I've read it several times, and all I can say is that it's quite unclear with regard to the Initiate class. It says in one part (p. 17) that wisdom is the base stat for learning new weaves, and elsewhere (p. 43) that it is intelligence. How weaves are learned is based on class (p. 44), but I can't find anything in the Initiate class description that is super-clear. There is reference to a lower DC for learning from mentors and from texts (Tower Trained, p. 20), and there is a mechanic for learning them in-game (also p. 44). However, no reference to what would happen if you start at a level above 1. For Wilders it is much more clear...they learn on their own, start with 5, and learn one each level.

So....your call, DM.

It doesn't specify, but it looks like most Aes Sedai learn them from individual study, from a teacher, or by observing them being used by another user of the One Power

Like the difference between a wizard and a Scorcerer?
