Like the difference between a wizard and a Scorcerer?
Looks like it, with the exception that wizards automatically learn two more spells per level.

Ok so I've read through the sections on the different channeling classes as well as the chapter in weaves. It appeared that Innitiates are supposed to only learn weaves through interaction/research/puzzling things out, which works fine except it doesn't tell us how to do advanced characters. There potentially infinite weave knowledge is very reminiscent of how wizards work so I'll just house rule it as you learn an additional 2 weaves per level that you are being advanced through for free, but latter any further advancement will need to be handled in character.

on the Wis/Int issue, it looks like Wisdom is essentially your spell casting stat and intelligence is your ability score keyed to the channeling skill.

Rolls for Hp level up

Rolls

HP roll - (2d10+3)

(710) + 3 = 20

I've been having trouble wrapping my head around the weaving/channeling as well. I PM'd Genisisect what I've got so far for my Wilder and it looks like I've got the slots and whatnot correct, but I'm still not sure I understand the mechanics of casting weaves and channeling.

1) If I understand correctly, a Wilder uses CHA instead of INT. Whats the WIS used for? I just blindly followed the document's suggestion and made CHA my primary and WIS my secondary.

2)
Quote:
Your Weave Casting Ability is your proficiency bonus + your Charisma modifier. You can only cast weaves of a level up to your Weave Casting Ability, although to exceed the restrictions of your level, you will need to overchannel.
The way I have my stats set up right now, that comes out to 5. But the Wilder table says the Weave Max Level for a 3rd level Wilder is 4. Does this mean I can channel normally up to a level 4 weave, but can overchannel up to a level 5 weave?

3) Let me get this straight: To cast a weave without penalty you must have at least one of its Affinities. As for Talents, what are those for, exactly? Are you only allowed to learn a particular weave if you have its governing Talent?

4) To complicate things further, what if I later have the chance to train as an Asha'man (which, I believe, uses INT)? What happens then? But no need to worry about that yet I guess.

Submitted my Kamikaze Warder. If I come back alive I will be very disappointed.

Ok so as far as I can tell...

1)
Cha is your stay for channeling, but wis is used to identify the weaves of others and overcome your block

2)
I agree, you can channel at most a level 5 weave, but you only have level 4 weave slots so if you want to channel a level 5 weave you will need to over-channel to boost it up.

3)
So you take a weave level penalty if you do t have an affinity to any of the strands types, otherwise your good (and if you have all you get a weave level discount).

For you as a Wilder you can ignore the Talent prerequisite on all weaves of level 2 and below, otherwise you need the talent to learn the weave.

4)
I don't really want to think about how you would get training at this stage, so let's just pretend that you don't. (Maybe the way it would work is everything switches over to int as your training takes over. seems right to me that trained superseds untrained)
Aug 16, 2016 12:18 pm
That makes him too spread out on stats. I guess I should just forget Asha'man. It's fine. The way the back story and personality is coming together I don't think he'll want formal training after all. Male wilders are subject to Madness, right? I just hope marithyme's Aes Sedai won't turn me in to the Reds! :-D
Aug 16, 2016 12:35 pm
The most certainly are subject to the madness.

Looks like we have two warders, one aes sedai, one male wilder, one woodsman and a gleeman?
Aug 16, 2016 4:16 pm
Will one of the warders be bonded to the aes sedai? :-)
Aug 16, 2016 4:17 pm
Well, I assumed I would, but I never really asked. HunkleMonkey is a kamikaze Warder, so I think his bond is probably broken. I'll ask the resident Aes Sedai. Do you want me as your warder?

Ok, there are probably a ton of kinks that need ironing out and I have questions about some of the weaves but here's my male wilder.

Trait: I lie about almost everything, even when there’s no good reason to.
Ideal: Independence. I am a free spirit— no one tells me what to do. (Chaotic)
Bond: Somewhere out there, I have a child who doesn’t know me. I’m making the world better for him or her.
Flaw: If there’s a plan, I’ll forget it. If I don’t forget it, I’ll ignore it.
Flaw: A scandal prevents me from ever going home again. That kind of trouble seems to follow me around.

Jandral left Arad Doman with no thought of ever returning for many reasons. For one thing, his mother, a sitting member of the council of merchants, became embroiled in a scandal involving trade tariffs and a port inspector who would not be bribed. On top of that, Jandral had seduced the daughter of a visiting Taraboner dignitary. Suffice it to say, this dalliance did nothing to improve the already embittered relations between their two nations. And then there was the channeling. Jandral had been terrified when, at the age of 16, while in the throes of passion with a particularly spirited silk merchant a decade his senior, his fiery passion had literally set her bedchamber alight. That was when Jandral decided to skip town. He'd always wanted to go abroad on adventures anyway. He joined the Hunters of the Horn and saw the world. His one regret was having to part with his little sister Aryana, with whom he shared a special bond. The siblings tried to stay in touch, though it was hard with Jandral constantly on the move.

Jandral learned a great many things on his travels. Some good, some bad. As he grew in the One Power it became harder and harder to hide it, and he often feared for his life and his sanity.

Now Jandral has received a letter from his sister who in his absence has become - of all things - an Aes Sedai pleaing for his help and asking him to travel to Tar Valon. And so to Tar Valon Jandral has gone - a less like place for him than any, and where a male channelers such as he might meet a crueller fate than had he walked into a Whitecloak fortress!

Absolutely!

And perhaps the wilder could be my brother...would explain both why he went to Tar Valon and why I wouldn't turn him in...

Awesome! I'll edit his story to reflect this. What kind of relationship do you imagine Jandral and his sister had before she went to the White Tower? Who's older? Were the siblings close, or did they despise each other? I have to think about why Jandral is going to her now, after all these years. He was 16 when he manifested and left Arad Doman, he's almost 30 now. He hasn't seen his sister in a long time!

I think she should be younger, and he's coming because she's written to you asking for your help. She didn't understand why he left all those years ago, and have no idea about your power.

What do you envision their relationship to be? Did they keep in contact? I imagine he'd feel protective of his little sister, but if he did write, she would have a highly-edited version of his shenanigans where he was always the victim/hero.

I love it! Yes, I think they would have written each other, though it would have been difficult with him always on the move with no real base of operations. How long has she been in Tar Valon? A few years minimum, given that she's now a fully-fledged aes sedai (is she newly raised to the shawl or has it been some time?)
