Egil Campaigns against Maelgwyn

Jul 30, 2023 1:28 pm
Scenario: The Burh

Egil's warband gallop toward the lands of Maelgwyn, and many of the latter's subjects rush toward one of his fortified holdings to flee the pagan marauders. Egil and his men are determined to gain entry and claim this place for Northmen.

Length of Game: 7 Turns

Victory Conditions:
At the end of the game add up Victory Points (VP):
Each 3 Levy killed: 1 VP
Each 2 Warriors killed: 1 VP
Each Hearthguard killed: 1 VP
Warlord killed: 3 VP

Attacker gains +2 VP if gate is destroyed, along with bonus VP for each unit within the walls at the end of the game (same scoring scale as with kills)

Additional Circumstances & Deployment:
Defender may deploy outside the walls within the purple circle (G17-S17, up to the peak at M11) , or within. Defender chooses one unit of Hearthguard as reinforcements, and after turn 2 draws one card at the beginning of the turn to see if they have arrived (a red suited card is a yes); these reinforcements deploy anywhere below longitudinal line 12 on either edge of the map.

Attacker deploys anywhere above the 5th longitudinal line. To enter the burh, the attacker can scale the walls if on foot or deal 5 seperate wounds to the gate with melee weapons. The gate's base draw resistance is a 9 (so 10 or better deals a wound). Mounted warriors may dismount, but it is their action for that turn, as is mounting
OOC:
Egil decides on the point size of the battle (max 2 from as Egil has only 2 Hearthguard). He will have the first turn after deployment.

Maelgwyn, your Burh wall will run along the 18th longitudinal line. Please place as many buildings as you like within the walls. You may choose 3 additional pieces of terrain to place outside the walls, but they must also be outside of the purple half circle.

Here is a blank map

Additionally, here are the terrain pieces you may place outside the walls

Brilliant, thanks GM. Forgive my ignorance, but how do we draw card decks on Gamersplane? I will try and post later today

Egil chooses a point value of 2 for this battle
Was it madness or brilliance?

The nine riders closed on the Burh, which flew the flag of the hated Maelgwyn. The galloping of hooves and a mighty blast of an iron horn announced the call of battle. Egil had out maneuvered and caught the Duke with a similar number of men to defend himself. Aiming for a crippling stroke in and to murder the Christian.

"Blood for the Æsir gods!"

Just below rolls there is a tab that says Advanced. Expand it and you will see your deck

Buildings and Terrain Placement

In Burh:
Large Building - centred in the Burh with the back wall on 25th longitudinal line (the dimension is L x L)
Buildings x 2 - There are buildings (guard towers/stations) either side of the gate in the Burgh wall (dimensions of each is M x VS)

External:
Woods x 3 - There are contiguous Woods originating at A1 with L x L dimensions

Large Building - Starting at K5 and heading towards the wall
Medium Building Q7 heading towards the wall
Medium Building T11 heading towards the wall

unfortunately in this scenario, since it's an invasion, the defender deploys all the terrain

Gates within a charge range so it's mostly irrelevant let's start the bloodshed

Next step is warband labeling. I'll use the same example from the other ongoing skirmish:

"Osric has a warband of 8x spearmen Warriors and 4x swordsmen Hearthguard, as well as his warlord.

Legend:
W= 1 morale, spear (+1 wep), Partial Armor
H= 2 morale, sword (+2 wep), Full Armor
O= 3 morale, two handed axe (+3 wep), Partial Armor

He places his Warriors as W1 through W8 on the board, Hearthguard as H1 through H4 and his warlord as O. He posts his legend to aid his opponent in identifying his troops on the board."

Choose whatever weapons you like, but they will have to stay that way for the entirety of the current season. Keep in mind that wielding a two handed weapon makes your Armor max Partial Armor, as you cannot have a shield. Risk v reward
After that (or along with), please post your deployment
Aug 2, 2023 10:08 pm
H= 2 morale, sword (+2 wep), Full Armor
O= 3 morale, sword (+2 wep), Full Armor

A rank of 5 horsemen, Egil and 2 mounted Hearth guard on his flanks in the lead J5-N5.

Behind them at J3, K3, M3, N3 are 2 mounted Hearth guard in the wings.

Warband Labelling
Hm-A [1-4] = Mounted Hearthguard with Javelins and horse (They will start the battle unmounted)
Hm-B [1-4] = Mounted Hearthguard with Javelins who begin the battle in RESERVE and already mounted
W = Warlord with Javelins and horse, currently unmounted
L [1-8] = Levy with bows
