GeneralET / Gardakhan

Welcome @GeneralET
This thread is for your character creation. Take a look at welcome and character creation.

If you have any questions you can post them here or if you think they are general on the Q&A

Is there any type of character that would be missing from the party. From the description not everyone is together, but what is the current feel with that regards?
Aug 8, 2023 6:19 pm
There are 3 groups of 4 but we are not at capacity. I tend to group by preferred post play rate. At the bottom of the page find the ~Tiny Info~ get button. Tap it to expand the player handout. It lists the groups.

If you let me know how many posts a week you plan to do, approximate area fine and it's not a requirement to stick to this, then I can let you know which groups would be a good fit.
We have a few fighters, summoners, and mage
But overall there are no pc healers

Am I correct to assume Duende are based on Goblin (just to get a rough idea) ?
A trait on your list picked my interest "the shaman".
Combined with the Healer trait I believe something cool can be done.
What would the shaman trait entails?
Aug 8, 2023 6:53 pm
I tried to convey as much about them system as possible without posting sold content or requiring the players all go get the rules.
Shaman as an idea is able to communicate with spirits. Exactly what you would like to do with it is up to you. Ex see and talk with spirit is what I would go with. Kind of niche but it could be quite fun.

Or your could say your see spirits and can call on then to act for you, similar to casting spells . A bit slower but more widespread and long lasting if you continue calling the spirits

Let me know what your are looking to do and I will give you a range of abilities that your can pick from.

After you play a shirt will I allow additional traits and your could add a Sumoner trait to call spirits

Regarding the frequency of post I would say 3-4/week roughly.

For the shaman, I had basically the same understanding that is seeing the spirits and speak with them for information/clues.
Perhaps they could have some form of limited influence influence in the physical realm eerie sounds, chill a place, dim some light (maybe what you meant by similar to casting spell but differently).

The way I see it the summuning trait would give them a corporeal form and thus let them interact with the physical realm, correct?

I'm starting to get a better idea where this is going. Will try to submit a character tonight or tomorrow.

There is a Shamanic magic system in the official game but it is a bit clunky for learning so I am streamlining it.

Shaman Natural : Your are gifted with an affinity to the spirit world allowing you to see spiritual affects as well as see and convers with various spirits. This allows you to call on them to create magical affects. Roll a standard test (2d6) and if the roll succeeds the spirits will create the effect at the beginning of the next round. These effects include creating minor elemental or natural effects, shaping the elements, and summon a spirit to aid you in more mundane tasks. Summoned spirits form tiny physical bodies and become visible. However any damage to then will dismiss their called form. As the spirits have trouble focusing the test must be performed each round to maintain any affect except summoned forms which last 10 minute before requiring another test.

Shaman Ritualist : You know how to guide the spirits to create wonderous effects. The more powerful the ritual the longer it takes and the more skill is required. Each ritual has a Magic cost that must be paid for. Rolling a standard test (2d6) with each success and fail tracked. When the number of successes reaches the magic cost the ritual takes effect. If the number of failures reaches the magic cost the ritual fails. You start with 4 point to allocate to rituals of your choice to be created in cooperation with the GM. Additional ritual may be found, purchased, or created.

Shamanic Warrior You can Test to gain the help of Spirits in combat. If successful you gain a random Boon that end after your next turn. You can sacrifice HP to the spirits, after the roll, to either Pick a boon or Double the duration.
Shamanic Warrior Boons:
1. Water: You gain an additional Action each turn.
2. Earth: You gain 4 HP of protection.
3. Fire: You deal 1 additional damage with any light or heavy weapon attack.
4. Wind: You are able to travel through the air as long as you touch a surface each round.
5. Light: You can hurl light as an attack that never misses for 2 actions.
6. Dark: You can see without light and fill an area with darkness for 10' or shadows for 20'.

All shaman magic caries a risk of spiritual backlash. On any test if all dice involved roll 1's then the shaman must roll a save at disadvantage. If they fail then spirits become hostile. The GM will describe the affliction spirits place on the shaman. EX: mute, deaf, blind, stunned, knocked prone, unconscious, cursed, 1 damage
I am open to suggestions/requests/feedback so let me know what you are thinking and want out of the spirits

I added detail for agility and healer to your character sheet. I assume you want the basic Shaman package (above) but let me know. You also start with a minor magic item. No mechanical benefit but it can be useful or just flavor : ex an animal skull helmet that hides your face and sisguises your voice, a crystal that glows dimly, a staffclug that is still alive, etc...

Other than that if you can give me a basic intro to your character and their reason for adventuring then I can start your story..

If you are posting 3+ per week then you are a bit in the middle of the Tunneels (daily) and Library (2-3/week), the Patrol thread is a bit stalled at the moment. Take a look and let me know if you have a prefference

Hello welcome. Sorry to jump in your thread, but I thought I would mention that two of the three of us in tunnels will be slower for a few days if you are interested in the tunnel thread and the more posting, but do not know if you can commit to a daily post and even after that as Psyber said it is no problem if you can not post. This is a very relaxed easy going group

I will join the tunnel if OK with you, I should be able to post every weekday (weekends are harder for me).
I haven't read through the 46 pages of text though. So I might need a quick sync on why they are in the cavern with goblins and fishers.

You are also correct I opted for the "basic" shaman package. Its pretty much what I had in mind.
As for the reason for adventuring, perhaps I sensed a disturbance in the spirits near the ruins and want to investigate the reason why to give them peace. Don't know if that would fit with your Lore.

As a magic item I was thinking of having a shield that also act as a drum that amplify the sound it makes (like a few people are actually drumming).
If you have other cool ideas I'm open (kinda also like the skull helm idea)

I added the Signal Shield to your character.

I will start a mini game to get Gardakhan down into the tunnels tomorrow.

@GeneralET, Originally, the purpose of the expedition was to explore the tunnels beneath the warehouse and make them safe. We did that. We even found where goblins broke into the tunnels from three different directions. After eliminating the threats and letting the warehouse manager (NPC) close the goblin entrances, we still ended up finding one entrance into a lower set of natural (or more natural) caverns. We are now exploring the natural cavern system.

Thus far in the natural cavern system, we have found some derro (we talked our way out of combat with them), a mimic (killed it), pink slime (survived it), some goblins (killed most of them), a magic pool (still haven't tested it), a magic portal thingie (haven't fully triggered it yet), and a cave fisher (drove it away). We plan on cleaning it out as much as we can, and then come back and try out the magic pool and portal thingie.

Currently there are three+ of us (the plus is an animal companion). In D&D terms we are a fighter, ranger (with wolf companion), and sorcerer (was trying for more of a druid vibe, but ended up more sorcerer).

@Psybermagi, where did you get the shaman rules from? I don't remember seeing them in the base rules.

Great summary!

Thanks for the summary. Glad I could join you and see where this adventure will take us.

Did you ever post in who’s who? I was going to read about your character and don’t see it
Aug 13, 2023 11:31 pm
Not yet need to do that soon...

You finished your intro session so you can go ahead and look into a new trait or gaining weapon mastery (roll 3d6 for attacks with that weapon) of a weapon in your existing proficient group, or gain proficiency with a new weapon group light/heavy/ranged
Let me know what you want to add to your character
