Session 4: Shelter from the Storm

"Ten miles sound short, aye, but t'aint safe to judge distance so surely in the Dale." Agna's breath huffs in the air. "The land can be hard to see 'neath all the white." The shaman comes up short thinking of a nearer shelter, however, so she gives Beorne a nod. "Just a word of warnin'. You be right. Let's hurry."
OOC:
IIRC geography's covered by History, so I'll roll for that.

The driving snow begins to fall and Izuhn stares in sudden silence. Soon he can't help but grin despite the danger that's mounting. "Ha! I'd almost forgot what real snow was like!"

"Joking aside, is Beorne responsible for all these folk or are they just tagalongs? Not everyone is cut out for even short trips in the Dale."

Ok, consequences for the nature checks now. Two fails and one success, means you get lost but Agna gets you on track. Both Adaia and Izuhn will get +1 fatigue from cold exposure
Beorne agrees with Agna and tries to push the caravan to move even faster for the last part of the travel. However, the weather switches far quicker than expected and most signs of the road are quickly lost. Without the sun or any clear landmark, the caravan wander aimlessly for an hour or so, until Agna manages to put it back on track by correctly estimating their location from her experience of traveling these parts often.

After awhile you emerge from the snowstorm into a wooded glade. You can faintly see a rustic cottage within this glade - but you can most definitely hear the sounds of bestial roars and battle cries. You can just barely see a huge man with a massive greatsword fending off a hulking, white-furred beast.

Izuhn will continue to make small talk as the caravan wanders, shivering slightly and rubbing his hands as he experiences the beginnings of true cold for the first time in a long time.

As the caravan comes into the glade and the sounds meet his ears, Izuhn squints hard to make out the scene before them.

Agna raises a hand, shouting for the rest behind them to halt. She plants her feet on the snowy ground and mutters under her breath, guttural syllables forming an incantation to scare off the monster ahead.

Yeti

About thirty feet away from the Agna she notices the huge man slaying one of the white-furred beast, which drops dead, its red blood staining the snow around it. Trained to hunt in the snow, the orc looks for another beast approaching like a ghost against the frozen landscape. She plants her feet on the snowy ground, paying close attention to her surroundings until she notices another creature. Muttering guttural syllables under her breath she cast an incantation to scare off the monster before it sneaks on the wounded man. Instinctively, the white shade in the storm stands still.
OOC:
Ok, let's try making the "boss" a bit more interesting. 6 rolls, you win if most are successes :D

So Agna scared the monster, stopping it. +1 bonus for everyone next round

"Sounds like my magic tricks might be needed." Adaia jumps up off the caravan she'd be riding and runs forward to see what the commotion is all about. Seeing the huge beast and Agna staring it down, she begins to channel her own magic, hoping to work with Agna.
She waves her hands, the snow that is falling near her stops and hangs in the air - it groups up into hard ice which she then flings at the creature with a flick of her wrists. "Run beast or die!"

Izuhn continues to look around until the creature's crimson blood paints the nearby ground. At its death, Izuhn leaps from the cart and charges past the others and towards the creature.

Izuhn lets forth a series of gutteral growls and roars that make little sense to most nearby.

Well, I think I'll drop the tracker idea after that ... Clearly intimidated and persuaded by now, it just feels railroading to keep it going 😅
Very tall human

Though Adaia's ice magic as little effect on the creature of the tundra, Izuhn's growls and roars seem to catch the beast's attention. It looks at the dwarf with what could only be described as surprise and appears to be thinking its next move. After a brief moment, the white furred creature steps back, merging into the storm and disappears.

The huge human stops the caravan and quickly rushes towards you "This blizzard will kill you just as sure as the yetis if you stay out in it! I can offer you some shelter" He looks at the wagons. "Maybe we can improvise something with those"
Sep 13, 2023 8:02 pm
"If you have shelter then what's to improvise!?" Izuhn yells over the storm.

"We ain't all fitting in that house o' his. If ye have a plan for the wagons, say it quick!" Agna raises her voice.

The man looks surprised by Agna's tone "Your friend is right" he tells Izuhn. "I can't fit everyone inside, but maybe we can form a improvised wall with the wagons..." he draws a circle around the hut's entrance with his hands. "Should at least help us keep the beasts away until the storm ends."
Sep 15, 2023 12:01 pm
"You heard 'im. Get the caravan movin'!" Agna cups her hands around her mouth to be heard above the howling wind. Trusting Beorne to listen to the man's advice, the shaman goes to help maneuver the individual wagons into a makeshift barricade.
OOC:
Not quite sure what to roll here if anything.
Sep 17, 2023 5:07 am
Adaia will attempt to help Agna with the caravan set up. Using her magic will attempt to clear some snow so that they have an easier time maneuvering, and once in place pile some snow so that the wind doesn't go underneath.
