On the world of Kesperex, the Gods have forbidden their direct involvement in the affairs of the world, agreeing to act only through their agents- priests, paladins, druids, chosen, champions, and catspaws. And interfere they do- a tangled web of siblings, lovers, and foes make up the pantheon of the major deities of Kesperex, and among these battles the Gods of Law, born to the Father and the Mystic Mother stand against the forces of chaos and neutrality.

Of these Gods, the eldest brother Hapi guards the doors of life and death. The God of Death, or some would say The God of Natural Death teaches that all men (and women, and orcs, and dragons, and goblins, and everything) must die, and should do so at its natural time. The use of magic to circumvent this - extending one's lifespan, aging in reverse, resurrection, and using necromancy to raise the undead are all strictly forbidden.

Well, strictly forbidden unless one makes use of a loophole, of course, and the most common loophole is also the simplest- an indulgance can be had for anything from a few years extra, to resurrections, to an army of zombies- if the price is right, and the Church of Hapi has made a good business dealing in these indulgences.

No tax willing tithe to the coffers of an appreciative god would be complete, however, without its enforcers, and that is where you come in. The Reapers are feared throughout all Kesperex. Armed with their signature scythes the Reapers collect and enforce the indulgance system- taxing those willing to pay and ending those unable or unwilling to do so- reaping they call it.

In the city of Narport, for well over a hundred years High Reaper Dominity ruled with an iron fist- and without much in the way of input from those above him in the Church or the Reapers. In fact, he'd made Narport effectively a sanctuary, a private fiefdom within the Church that all others staid out of, that is until his recent death. Even the favored of the God of Death must die. His passing has left a blank spot for the Reapers- a city where tithe payment once had regularly flowed outward and upward where now even information is sparse at best.

You've been assembled into an elite squad of junior Reapers and given a simple task- go into Narport, take control of the situation, man such churches as exist, make sense of Reaper Dominity's paperwork, get the indulgance payments flowing again, and deal with anyone not in compliance with the laws of the Church and nature.

System this will be in Pathfinder 1st edition

Adult content the game will deal with the concept of death a fair amount, including undead and light horror elements, and it will have typical DND/Pathfinder combat/violence. Sexual themes will be dealt with in a primarily off screen fashion- if you want to pick up someone at the local tavern feel free, but then proceed to the rooms upstairs and leave out descriptions of what happens behind closed doors- PG-13 rules- you cut away after the first kiss and we understand what happened for the story but don't need to describe/see it happening in detail.

Character Restrictions 1st level characters to start using standard 20 points buy; all characters must be members of the Reaper's organization, and therefore must be followers of the Lawful Neutral God of Death Hapi, but need not be divine spell casters (the Reaper's will take a devout fighter as gladly as a cleric, druid, or Paladin). In accordance with this requirement, all characters MUST be within one step of Lawful Neutral (Lawful Good, Lawful Neutral, Lawful Evil, or True Neutral). Due to this there are some classes that are restricted (barbarians, for instance because of the requirement to be chaotic), but otherwise classes from all sources will be considered for acceptance. See below about races.
[ +- ] An Aside About Power Gaming/DPS Olympics Style Builds
Races This game takes place on my homebrew world of Kesperex, and as such it has a different set of races that are available for play- the races available will be humans, halflings, quarterlings, cloud dwarves, fire dwarves, hill dwarves, plains elves, river (tower) elves, southron elves, kobolds (blue, green, bronze, gold, or silver heritage).

These races are all custom races and will be added in a document detailing them shortly.

Who Can Apply Anyone can apply- I won't be discriminating for or against anyone regardless of your race, sex, ethnicity, religion, or level of player experience with either Pathfinder, Play by Post, or Role playing in general- newbies and grognards both welcomed.

How to Apply I'm looking for 4-6 characters that will fill out a "typical" DND/PF party- a good mixed of casters/warriors and ranged/melee with at slight focus on extra divine casters). Submit a one paragraph character concept, and an outline of your character's build plans for the first 10 levels (class/classes and key feats for your build- don't need to nail down every feat, but the ones that are integral to your concept.)

Posting Timeline: I aim for once a day updates but I understand we are all busy, myself included so I will say that expectation is to post every other day at least and within 24 hours for your turn in combat. *(That said, if you miss your turn in combat for one reason or another and I move on I still allow you to post an action for it within reason, but it does not retcon things- if your Round 2 attacks kills a bandit who has rolled a crit in round 3, you still get to take the action but it doesn't erase the posted action- the bandit would end up dead, but the crit still happens)

Feel free to fire off any questions you have- I will get races and world information up in a reference document shortly.

Thanatological repo men… sign me up! I’ll have a concept built up soon enough.

I think of a fire dwarf hunter.

Fire dwarf same as normal dwarfs but look a bit different and/or are there spec differences?

Collections is collections. :)

No, sorry- they are a custom race see the links below (sorry was working on getting this stuff around/creating the game page)

Elves of Kesperex

Dwarves of Kesperex
[ +- ] Kobolds
[ +- ] Quarterling
Keep in mind there are dwarf and elf races listed in those documents that aren't allowed for play- I'm restricting it to the "lawful" races mostly, so those dwarf & kobold types that are traditionally on the lawful side of alignment (ala their giant cousins).

May be interested.

On interesting build line - I have been for a long time wanting to play. a Jistkan Artificer magus with the possessed hand feat line - the possession w being the golem arm. Perhaps the possessing spirit is an old agent/Priest of Hapi, (perhaps the arm is even a melted down scythe, why though still not sure) that she's had to make a deal with - part of the deal aiding the reapers.

The big question is would they all need scythes, as she would naturally be punching people, but late down the line you can take arcana to get piercing and slashing - That could be fluffed as a scythe styled blade.

There is also just go for a scythe Warpriest, as I do like them, even if I may be the only person. Not sure yet if the build would do anything fancy (and I can stay away from the classic fates favoured trick if you want :0). More likely standard warpriest - get into combat and get stronger the longer the fight goes in.

Possibly champion of the faithful for Law if there's gonna be a lot of chaos about.

I'd be interested in playing. Kinda new to pathfinder but I have experience in playing dnd 5e. I would love to play as a kobold, most likely a silver one if there aren't any differences between them. Currently playing a kobold artificer in 5e, and would probably make him as close to that one as possible.

Edit: forgot to mention, would likely be a gunslinger. Artificer is the closest we get to a gunslinger in 5e.

Well I like that version of Fire Dwarves just fine. :)

Hunter has an animal companion starting out. For animal companions, is there any offering for elemental (fire)? Or is below the only options.

Bat: The creature gains darkvision to a range of 60 feet. At 8th level, the range increases by 30 feet. At 15th level, the creature also gains blindsense to a range of 10 feet.
Bear: The creature gains a +2 enhancement bonus to Constitution. This bonus increases to +4 at 8th level and +6 at 15th level.
Bull: The creature gains a +2 enhancement bonus to Strength. This bonus increases to +4 at 8th level and +6 at 15th level.
Falcon: The creature gains a +4 competence bonus on Perception checks. This bonus increases to +6 at 8th level and +8 at 15th level.
Frog: The creature gains a +4 competence bonus on Swim checks and on Acrobatics checks to jump. These bonuses increase to +6 at 8th level and +8 at 15th level.
Monkey: The creature gains a +4 competence bonus on Climb checks. This bonus increases to +6 at 8th level and +8 at 15th level.
Mouse: The creature gains evasion, as the rogue class feature. At 12th level, this increases to improved evasion, as the rogue advanced talent.
Owl: The creature gains a +4 competence bonus on Stealth checks. This bonus increases to +6 at 8th level and +8 at 15th level.
Snake: The creature gains a +2 bonus on attack rolls when making attacks of opportunity and a +2 dodge bonus to AC against attacks of opportunity. These bonuses increase to +4 at 8th level and +6 at 15th level.
Stag: The creature gains a 5-foot enhancement bonus to its base land speed. This bonus increases to 10 feet at 8th level and 20 feet at 15th level.
Tiger: The creature gains a +2 enhancement bonus to Dexterity. This bonus increases to +4 at 8th level and +6 at 15th level.
Wolf: The creature gains the scent ability with a range of 10 feet. The range of this sense increases to 20 feet at 8th level and 30 feet at 15th level. The range doubles if the opponent is upwind, and is halved if the opponent is downwind.

I would be interested in playing a Cloud Dwarf Summoner, with an eidolon companion flavored to essentially be a spirit of the dead or minor angelic being under Hapi, the control of which is essentially lent to the character for the purposes of Reaping.

As for build stuff, I'm not very familiar with pathfinder, and thus don't really know anything about building, but assumedly I'd want spell focus (conjuration) and augment summoning, because... I mean, I'm a summoner. Improved share spells also looks really good. Maybe Summoner's Call, but I'm not a huge fan of how it only lasts 10 minutes.

I'm also tempted to try mounting my eidolon, in which case I'd want to use a feat to get lance proficiency, definitely one or more from Spirited Charge, Trample, Charge Through, Mounted Shield, Mounted Skirmisher, and Trick Riding. But again, that's just if I choose to go with the mounted route, idk if it really fits with the concept I have in mind.

Scythe is just the holy weapon for Hapi & a kind of symbol for the group. No every character needs to feel pressured to make the scythe their primary weapon (though having one such character might be nice). But yes, all Reapers will have one for ceremonial occasions if nothing else, but feel free to focus whatever weapon you want.

@LightofMidnight-- I love the possessed hand feats and the "Fullmetal Alchemist" archetype- sounds like an interesting build to go with.

@KirinofDarkness-- if you look at the chart on the image there, all Kobolds get the same except the element they have Resistance 5 to (cold for silver) and the spell like ability they gain (feather fall 1/day for silver).

@GeneCortess-- it has been a while since I was tweaking builds and I never really dove in too far on hunters, but I will take a look around and see- my gut says that there must surely be an option that would work but I don't know what kind or the specifics until I do a little research so I will look in on that.

Um looks like the gunslinger might be out for me. But I have to say I love scythes way more than guns. So I wouldn't mind being a dedicated scythe user. Still want to be a silver kobold.

If you have ant class recommendation for a scythe user, I'd greatly appreciate it :)

Jistkan artificer it may be the.

So warpriest's have a lot revolving round their 'chosen weapon' while also buffing the elves in combat.

Fighter's also can easily pick up feats to get better on one weapon (which a warpriest then knocks), and has things like weapon training.

Slayer's while not necessarily having anything to boost a single weapon could very well fit the aesthetic of a scythe user.

Also if you still wanted an 'artificer esque' look at alchemist. They don't naturally have the abkty to use scythes hoewever.

@genecortess This may suit your purposes.

I am unaware of an archetype that adds elemental options to the aspect list, there may be one though.

I have decided to go with a courtlier fire dwarven hunter. I like the thought of just an Eagle.

Elemental Companion is interesting version for my eagle. Perhaps it is a fiery eagle. Thoughts of a racer too.

Haven't made a choice on weapons.

So I think im going to go the fighter route and focus on scythes. Still going to be a Silver kobold and his name is Ehtycs (pronounced as Ethics) lol. Still trying to learn the system, so might take me a few days to figure everything out for a 10 levels outline.

Lv 1: Agile Maneuvers, Combat Reflexes
Lv 2: Combat Expertise
Lv 3: Improved Trip
Lv 4: Throw Anything
Lv 5: Stand Still
Lv 6: Greater Trip
Lv 7: Dodge
Lv 8: Mobility
Lv 9: Spring Attack
Lv 10: Whirlwind Attack

This is what I have planned so far.
Aug 24, 2023 2:49 pm
@KirinOdDarkness- if the main payoff you're looking for is Whirlwind that looks good, but keep in mind scythe doesn't use dex for attackbor damage and it doesn't have reach so there are a few things that may need adjusted as you level.

I know, dex will be the characters main stat and str won't be ideal, it's a 10 after the race mod. Mostly it be combat maneuvers that they will be focusing on. Sadly the only feat to use dex for weapons only apply to light weapons. I've thought of getting the lunge feat, but since it worked only for attacks and not opportunity attacks I decided against it. I do like the idea of being able to throw my scythe for an attack though lol.

Also, does this site not calculate the pathfinder character sheets correctly? I had an 18 for dex but when it calculated my reflex save it came out as +8 even though the base is 0. Same for initiative, it's a +8.
Aug 24, 2023 4:50 pm
Hm, I haven't used the PF sheet in ages. Can you screenshot it? Or make the sheet public and link it?

Looking at an old PF sheet of mine, it looks calculated correctly

Here is the link: https://gamersplane.com/characters/pathfinder/27064/

I'm not sure what's wrong with it. I noticed that all the saves are double the mods too.

If you want you can look into advanced weapon training, one option will get you finesse on a weapon group (So polearms for the scythe). You can either get it naturally at 9, or pick up a feat to get it earlier.

(Do tell me if you want me to stop with suggestions, pathfinder is just my main game so know a little about it :P)

Oh weird, after I shared it it seems to be calculating correctly now.
