Summertime. Never-ending days spent roaming the countryside looking for something to do. Boredom and bliss in equal measure. But underneath the sweet Swedish (or US) summer, something stirs. Something is wrong. Can they solve the Mystery before it is too late?

We'll start with a Session 0 to create characters, determine setting, and help solidify details so everyone is happy with the experience of playing this game.

Principles of the Tales from the Loop game:
1. Your hometown is full of strange and fantastic things.
2. Everyday life is dull and unforgiving.
3. Adults are out of reach and out of touch.
4. The land of the Loop is dangerous, but Kids will not die.
5. The game is played scene by scene.
6. The world is described collaboratively.

A mystery for Tales from the Loop

Summertime. Never-ending days spent roaming the countryside looking for something to do. Boredom and bliss in equal measure. But underneath the sweet Swedish (or US) summer, something stirs. Something is wrong. Can they solve the Mystery before it is too late?

I'm looking for a group of 2-3 players to play the first adventure in the Tales from the Loop rulebook. You don't have to have any experience with the system. I myself am new to it and am intrigued by the system and setting.

Player Collaboration
Something that I would like to try with this game is including more player interaction with the storytelling and world building process.

From the Tales from the Loop rulebook"

The Gamemaster is responsible for setting scenes and describing things in the story, but that doesn’t mean she should do all the work herself. The Gamemaster should ask the players for help all the time. Ask them what the school looks like, what the weather is, why
the neighbors are arguing, and so forth.

The Gamemaster should ask the Kids questions: What does your mother look like? What’s fishy about the lady of the house next door? What is the mood like in the house when you get home? How do you feel? What are you thinking? What have you done that makes her hate you? What are you wearing? How come you love her? The Gamemaster should use the players’ imaginations by asking questions all the time, and making sure the group creates the world together.

If the players make up flying schools and parents who work as Alien Hunters, the Gamemaster should remind them of the principle "Everyday life is dull and unforgiving." The strange and the mysterious should be in the Mysteries. The Gamemaster has the final say.

Post Frequency & Commitment
Players in this game should try to post daily. I expect the entire adventure to take a couple of months to complete if we can keep to this schedule. Expect some amount of slow-down during major holidays.

Who can Apply?
Anyone is welcome to apply. A positive experience for all players is my number one priority. We will have a session zero to make sure we start on the same page in terms of playstyle and tone.

How to Apply
To apply, leave a comment in this post to tell me about a character concept you'd like to play in this adventure.

Questions?
Ask away in this thread, or feel free to private message me.

It's great to see some love for Tales from the Loop here. I've run a couple of adventures of it and its sequel here on the site and I really like the setting. The system is simple and easy to learn (Year Zero Engine).

I have read this adventure before and played through part of it but it was a while ago and I don't recall many details beyond the beginning of it (and can separate player and character knowledge). Feel free to pick other players who don't have any familiarity with the adventure before me, but I would be interested in joining this.
Were you thinking of setting this in the Swedish or the American Loop or is that still up in the air?

Either way, happy to see some Loop stuff going around on the site!

As for a character concept, I'm flexible, but an immediate idea I had was, using the Hick archetype, a girl who lives on a farm and because of that is physically pretty strong and has a bigger build than most girls in school, which she's embarrassed about.

I'm excited to have you join! Your character concept of a strong farm girl with a bit of shyness about her physical build is intriguing. I can't wait to see how she interacts with the mystery.

I'm thinking of having everyone weigh in on whether they prefer the Swedish or the American Loop. I'm open to both settings.

I'll have to read up on the setting but I am interested!

I definitely prefer the Swedish Loop (There's a reason I have two maps of it hanging in my apartment 😄), but I would also be open to play in the American one. I know that one less well, so it might be interesting to discover that setting a bit. I would vote for Sweden, but either works for me.

I'm a sucker for RPGs where you play regular kids against mysteries... Would love to play if you have a place.

Sweden or the US are both interesting to me, for different reasons. The Swedish setting we know less, so it would be an exploration experience. The US would have a great, familiar world that we have seen in great nostalgia-filled movies... I'm imagining Super 8, or Stranger Things.

Been wanting to try Tales form the loop.. though I have bad luck with the Year Zero engine (Bowl can attest to this :P)

As always have a few character concepts. Possibly someone struggling with parental expectations to get good grades/prove they're best so comes across as mean/arrogant/distant to others at least to start.

Alternatively someone who should be getting good grades in school/intelligent etc, but struggling with having to help raise their family due to some sort of parental issues, and doesn't quite know how to put herself first.

Characters can't die in TftL, so you'd be safe from that at least in this 😄

I had a look at the TftL archetypes, I think I would be interested in playing the Bookworm: someone finding shelter from school and peer pressure in reading, not being sports-inclined (in fact, being pretty much a disaster at anything too physical and at sports). Their comfort zone is between the pages of a book, the town library is their natural habitat. Maybe knows quite a bit for their age, and is socially awkward, coming across as pedantic and know-it-all ...

We have a full group. Thanks for the interest everyone.
