Tanya and Robbie bump into each other outside the school gates. In a matter of seconds of meeting, a group of popular girls led by Isabella "Izzy" Eriksson, the undisputed queen bee of the school, swarms around Tanya and Robbie. Their presence is unmistakable, and it's clear that Izzy thrives on the power her popularity affords her.

This morning’s group of bullies is made up of Izzy, two of her friends, and Emilia.

Izzy’s eyes gleam with mischief as she surveys Tanya and Robbie. "Well, well, well, if it isn't the farm giant and the bookworm," she taunts with a smirk. She turns to Emilia, a sly grin on her face. "I heard a rumor," she says in a low, mocking tone, "that our dear giant here has been collecting worms in her backpack. Isn't that just the most disgusting thing you've ever heard?"

Laughter erupts from Izzy's followers, except for Emilia, who manages an uncomfortable smile. In an unexpected turn of events, Izzy grabs a small container from one of her laughing friends. "Here's something for your collection, girls," she announces with a wicked glint in her eye, ready to throw the container.

But before she can launch it a ball suddenly sails through the air and hits Emilia squarely in the back. The force of impact sends her stumbling forward, and she collides with Izzy. In the chaos that ensues, the container meant for Tanya and Robbie is flung backward, its contents, a mix of worms and dirt, scattering onto Izzy and her two laughing friends.

Izzy's scream cuts through the commotion, drawing the attention of Mr. Andersson, one of the teachers. He hurries toward the group with a clear expression that his patience is already worn thin.

The teacher, visibly flustered, scans the group and declares that everyone not covered in dirt: Emilia, Robbie, and Tanya will remain after school. He refuses to listen to arguments. Emilia turns to Izzy for support, but Izzy simple shrugs her shoulders and walks away.

-- Monday After School --
Your scene begins as Robbie, Tanya, and Emilia leave school late after having stayed behind for Mr. Andersson. The late afternoon sun casts long shadows on Kungsberga as they walk toward the quiet path that leads from the school grounds. The area is empty of everyone except these three.
OOC:
What are characters doing as they leave? Staying close, keeping distant, arguing, silent, looking around, fidgeting, heading to the hideout, going home, etc…?
Sep 10, 2023 2:28 pm
Robbie spends the day angry and upset over the incident in the morning. She hadn't done anything wrong, only stupid Izzy insulted her and Tanya as always. And why would Robbie collect worms and bring them to school anyway? People already call her weird enough without her actually doing weird stuff. And of course, over the course of the day, Robbie already heard rumors starting to float around that she had brought a can of worms and dumped it over Izzy's head, which (while it would be totally deserved) is a complete lie of course.

During detention, she sticks close to Tanya and mostly ignores Emilia, annoyed that she was hanging out with Izzy in the first place, but then towards the end, when they're all let out, she walks over to Emilia and mumbles awkwardly, avoiding directly looking at her, "Y'know, I know that Izzy and her friends are way cooler than Tanya and I, but at least we wouldn't have ditched our friends like that. Maybe you should get nicer friends."
The dream would of course be if Emilia wanted to be Robbie's friend, but she knows that's never going to happen. But at least Emilia should know that she doesn't need to hang out with the mean bullies all the time.
Sep 10, 2023 2:55 pm
Tanya has been upset about the extra time waste that the detention meant, and doubly annoyed as she was not allowed to read during it, as she had to reflect on her shortcomings.

Now, walking with Robbie and Emilia, she nods in agreement, adding in her bookish tone, "Definitely. The irony of it is, of course, that the box of worms that Izzy and her hens wanted to use on us, didn't only backfire: it is also the perfect description for their group, don't you think?"

She glances at Emilia, "next time you see them, please propose an official club name change, will you?" she says, trying to see if she can make her laugh. She has found that on many occasions a little humor can go a long way to defuse antagonistic situations.

She got to know Emilia a little bit, after the Hideout Incident. How the heck Emilia found their access to the secret rooms, is still baffling her. So far Emilia has been keeping the secret as they had mutually agreed, which goes in her favor.

It's had stung. Getting in trouble for Izzy's stunt. for Izzy letting it happen. Voices in Emilia's head try to reason with it. It's not like they could have stood up for her without explaining they were all in on it. Though it had been Izzy's idea. In the end it was the teachers fault for assuming things.

As the detention ends she rapidly pack up, wanting to rush out without confrontation but is caught by Robbie before she can. She just looks away . 'She didn't ditch.. have just got in trouble as well.' She fidgets with her bag strap as they walk. Why was she even talking to her. Trying to be nice. It was what always confused her about Robbie. Everyone else they were mean o just avoided them and she ..didn't. It was confusing.

She stifles a laugh at the worms comment. It was fitting. But she'd found it safe to be included in their number. rather than outside it She couldn't exactly going agreeing wih it. 'Yeah..I don;t think that'll go down well for some reason. ' She mumbles, clearly uncomfortable with being alone with the pari after what had just transpired. And everything else previously.
Sep 10, 2023 8:23 pm
Robbie chuckles at her friend's comment. "Box of worms," she says with a smile as they get out of the school building. "That's really funny."
They walk off school grounds together and, to keep the silence from growing awkward, Robbie decides to ask, "Will you get in trouble with your parents because of detention? I don't think mine will be mad, but I'm a bit nervous."
Sep 11, 2023 6:46 am
"Depends if my Mom is home or not. She'd notice I'm later than usual. Third degree most likely will follow," she shrugs.

"If my dad's home he won't know the difference, and I'm not gonna volunteer the information, that's for sure."

"How about you?" she asks Emily, "surely they won't be mad at their fairytale princess?"
Sep 11, 2023 6:52 am
Robbie shakes her head. "Nah, her mom is really cool. No way Emilia will get in trouble."

Emilia tries not to let out a bitter laugh. Her Mum wouldn't be back yet, if she was going to be back at all. She wouldn't even know whose was late.

As Robbie mentions her Mum she throws her a look. What did she know about her.

'They' ll actually believe me when I tell them I had nothing to do with it. Maybe even speak to school. That teacher should be worried.

She doubted her Mum would even have the time to go to the school. Best just not bother her with it.
Sep 11, 2023 12:41 pm
"I think Mr. Andersson meant well," Robbie says when Emilia mentions that he should be worried. "We shouldn't be getting him in trouble for any misunderstanding." Tyra doesn't seem like the kind of woman who would make anyone trouble at school, but Emilia probably knows her better, so Robbie isn't about to argue.

She looks down at her shoes for a moment as they're walking. She actually likes this group. Tanya is kind of her best friend, even though she always has her nose buried in books. And Emilia is actually kind of nice, even though she often tries to hide it. So she suggests, "Maybe we can all hang out a bit one day. I have to get home to do my chores, but we could go to the arcade. Or play some game in our secret spot! I could bring Monopoly."
Sep 11, 2023 1:05 pm
She widens her eyes at Robbie - an effect further magnified by her lenses- with a silent expression that means you're inviting HER??

Then she feels committed to say something, and comes out with a weak, "yeah. That could be nice."
Her body language doesn't help, though, as she cannot restrain a little shrug.
Sep 11, 2023 2:28 pm
Pigeon

As the group continues along the path, they unexpectedly come across the worm container from the morning's incident. Evidently, someone must have retrieved it after it was dropped earlier. Perhaps it had served as part of another prank later in the day. Did Mr. Andersson have to endure another worm-related incident?

While standing near the container, an unusual sound catches their attention from the side of the path a little way off. It's the sound of mechanical excited voices. "Jackpot, worms! worms! worms!" the voices chant.

Curiosity piqued, they look over and discover four pigeons near the scattered worm contents. Two pigeons appear to be in the midst of a fierce dispute over a worm, while another one playfully dances around the feuding pair. The fourth pigeon, however, seems to be gazing in the opposite direction, away from the kids. Strangely, the dancing pigeon appears to be the one talking.

As it continues to move around, the dancing pigeon cheerfully exclaims, "I LOVE WORMS." The pigeon that was previously looking away interjects with a hushed tone, "Be quiet. Look over there, it's something shiny. If you make too much noise, it will run away."

OOC:
This is a such a great detail.
Sep 11, 2023 4:04 pm
A look of surprise crosses Emilia's face before it rapidly becomes one of suspicion.

'My friend just tried to dump worms all over you why would...' She starts before coming to at halt spotting the can again. She looks slightly confused before shaking her head to clear it. Coincidence.

Then the birds start talking. A stunned look crosses her face, as the mechanical voices continues before she's shakes her head once more. Nope this wasn't happening. She had to get a grip and not look crazy in front of these two. If rumours spread she'd be in the firing line herself.
Sep 11, 2023 4:09 pm
Robbie doesn't get a chance to answer Emilia's half-spoken question before they're all distracted by the weirdness going on. "Did that bird just talk?" she asks, hoping she doesn't sound like an absolute lunatic. She bends down, keeping distance so as to not scare the birds. "Hey, friend pigeon!" she says in a friendly tone. "Can you understand me?"

Okay, now she definitely sounds like an absolute lunatic.
Sep 11, 2023 4:14 pm
Pigeon
The pigeons, particularly the dancing one who had been speaking, react in a rather unexpected and surreal manner. The dancing pigeon momentarily stops its happy jig, tilts its head in Robbie's direction, and chirps out, "Talk? Talk!"

The other pigeons seem equally puzzled, with one pausing its squabble over the worm and the other glancing back at the shiny object with a twitchy beak.

As for understanding Robbie, it's unclear whether the pigeons grasp her words or are simply mimicking sounds they've heard. However, their unexpected reactions add an extra layer of intrigue to the bizarre encounter.
Sep 11, 2023 4:22 pm
She looks in fascination at the talking birds... and slowly stops, crouching down to observe this better.
To the other girls, she whispers, "Yes... I hear them too..."

Without making a move so not to scare the birds off, her eyes scan the details of their heads, plumage, legs... in search of something that could explain this uncanny thing. They must be wearing a small loudspeaker, and some idiot is transmitting the speech to it...

From this distance Tanya does not see any clues that explains the sounds. For all intents and purposes, it appears that the birds are indeed talking.

The birds are now definitely aware of the three kids, and although they continue their previous actions, they stop occasionally and look back at them. At one point, Tanya is fairly confident that one looked directly at her and then whispered something to another bird.
OOC:
Question for group? Do you want me to make suggestions of possible skills or actions to make at key points in the story? Or do you prefer for me to simply present the situation without suggestions?
Sep 11, 2023 6:00 pm
OOC:
Very useful answer i know but a mix of both. Sometimes can be fun to try different approaches if there are ones, but if only going to be one thing to do, then it can be nice to know.
'..wait so.. am I not going crazy or are we all... why are you talking to them?!' Emilia blinks as the other make it clear they can also hear the bird, before looking surprise as as Robbie bends down to them. 'If they can talk we have no idea what else they can do?'

Despite her words her curiousty begins to get the better or her and she looks to see if she can spot the shiny thing one mentioned. '
Sep 11, 2023 6:29 pm
Emilia notices what appears to be an ordinary handheld mirror, albeit broken, near the birds. The shiny object upon which the bird is fixated is a piece of that mirror.
Sep 11, 2023 6:30 pm
"Don't scare them," Robbie whispers to her friends. She very slowly puts down her backpack, then opens it to see if she has any of her lunch left over. She wants to toss it to the birds to see if she can lure them in and maybe put them at ease a bit.
OOC:
You should probably let us know if any skills are required for actions we state we take. Beyond that, maybe if we're stuck, you can let us know a possible path forward.
Sep 11, 2023 6:50 pm
OOC:
Attempting to lure a pigeon closer with food doesn't require a roll provided Robbie has something appealing to the birds. However, steps beyond that will most likely require some kind of roll depending on the action. These birds, although acting strangely, are still acting very much like birds.
Sep 11, 2023 6:56 pm
OOC:
For now, she's just trying to figure out their behavior and listen to them some more. Maybe they'll try to capture one? But for now, she's just curious
Sep 11, 2023 7:02 pm
Pigeon
Robbie takes some bread from her lunch, breaks it up into smaller pieces, and tosses it towards the birds. The pigeons initially react with some caution. They watch the tossed food with wary eyes, but as they realize it's a source of sustenance, their natural instincts take over. One of the pigeons, the one that was previously dancing around, takes a few hesitant steps forward and pecks at the offered food. The other pigeons soon follow suit, and within a minute or two, they are all gathered eating the food.

As they eat, the dancing pigeon pauses and says, "Yummy worms!" before returning to its meal. The other pigeons don't seem to mind the commentary"
Sep 11, 2023 7:51 pm
OOC:
An important detail, please:
are the voices perfectly human-sounding? Or are they human words produced by their bird vocal apparatus?

As to your skill approach query, maybe we could sometimes roll what we think is pertinent, with the caveat that the gm can disregard that altogether if it seems off, I'd always be happy with the gm call.
If in other cases we describe an action triggering a check, but are unsure, the gm can suggest?
Sep 11, 2023 8:14 pm
OOC:
The pigeons' voices possess a robotic mechanical quality, different from a human. When they utter words, they simulate the motion of opening their beaks, yet the speech flows seamlessly, devoid of the human need for jaw movements. It's as if their words emerge effortlessly.

Thanks for feedback on rolls. I'll lean towards presenting situations as is. However, I'll speak up if I think the path forward isn't obvious. Feel free to make rolls when you think it's pertinent, but don't hesitate to ask if you're not sure.
Sep 11, 2023 8:27 pm
"Let's see if they know more words," she says.

Then louder, to the birds, "that is NOT worms. That's bread. Bread."
Sep 11, 2023 8:39 pm
Pigeon
The pigeons respond with a curious tilt of their heads as they pause in their meal, their beady eyes studying Tanya. After a brief moment of silence, the dancing pigeon, the most talkative of the group, chimes in with an inquisitive tone, "Bread... worms... words? I LOVE WORMS." The bird who was studying the shiny object before stops abruptly and hushes the others. "Of course it's bread. Be quiet. I can hear something." After a moment, he seems to forget and starts eating bread again.

Tanya thinks she can hear some faint rustling in the distance, but she can’t discern if it’s more than the wind.
Sep 11, 2023 8:46 pm
'That one.. is it smarter than the others? ' She crouches by Robbie now intrigued before slowly trying to move to the mirror to try and pick it up, see if she can catch its attention again.
Sep 11, 2023 9:00 pm
Emilia moves with care circling around the pigeons while maintaining a respectful distance. She carefully reaches the mirror, picks it up, and holds it in her hand. Its fractured surface reflects glimmers of light, instantly capturing the attention of the pigeons.

The one that had been studying the shiny object earlier, remains fixated on Emilia's actions. The other pigeons, seemingly uninterested, return to their meal, pecking at the bread scattered on the ground.

From her new vantage point, Emilia does indeed hear rustling in the nearby brush. It's not too far away.
Sep 11, 2023 10:16 pm
Tanya is amused by this word game, and tries something else. "Are they like parrots? Let't try..."

"Mister Andersson is a big fat worm!"
Sep 11, 2023 10:26 pm
OOC:
Roughly how loud does Tanya say this?
Sep 11, 2023 10:34 pm
OOC:
only as loud as to be clearly heard by the birds - to differentiate from the quieter talking when she addresses Robbie or Emilia
Sep 11, 2023 11:07 pm
Pigeon
As Tanya tries to get the pigeons to mimic her, one of them, which hasn't spoken yet, replies in a tone that sounds strangely close to that of a stern teacher, "Everyone not covered in dirt stays after school. No excuses!" The other pigeons suddenly pause in their meal, looking at the talking pigeon as if it were the teacher. A moment of awkward silence hangs in the air before the pigeons go back to their food.
Sep 12, 2023 4:42 am
"That's amazing!" Robbie says, giggling at the bird's impression of their teacher. "But how is this possible? Pigeons can't speak like parrots. Or do you think these are half-parrots or something? Did someone crossbreed them?" It seems kind of absurd, but so is this whole situation. She lowers her voice to a whisper, still not sure if the pigeons can understand their language or not. "Do you think we can catch the leader? So we can find out more about them."
Sep 12, 2023 6:22 am
As the others start trying to get the birds to say certain things Emilia freezes hearing the rustling.

'Guys. Ssh' She hisses quietly, lifting a finger to her mouth, tootling her head towards the noise, trying to work out if it's coming their way.
Sep 12, 2023 6:48 am
She gasps at the pigeon's response.
Whispering to Robbie, "But... It said the exact words Mr Andersson used... That's not imitating... That's impossible."

Can this thing read minds??

She focuses her thoughts on the pigeon that interacted with her, and thinks the words: CHERRY ON THE CAKE.

"Maybe it was there this morning and heard him," Robbie speculates. "Though it must be really smart to be able to tell who we were talking about just by his name." She quickly adds, "Smart for a bird that is, not a human."
Sep 12, 2023 12:53 pm
Pigeon
The group of pigeons remain focused on their food and the shiny object, occasionally pausing to exchange words in their mechanical voices. Their conversations consist of a mixture of phrases like "Worms!", "Hush," and what sounds like a teacher issuing instructions. As Emilia concentrates on the rustling noise, it becomes increasingly distinct, indicating that something is approaching, although the noise is intermittent and difficult to pinpoint. Unfortunately, the birds do not seem to respond to Tanya's attempt at mind reading.
Sep 13, 2023 3:25 pm
Diverting her attention from the telepathy experiments, Tanya focuses on the rustling too, seeing Emilia looking for its source.
"Where's that coming from?..."

She takes a few tentative steps towards the brush, squinting her eyes to see in the shady areas. She will walk carefully not to scare the pigeons.

"If that's Izzy again, don't let her see us talking to the birds," Robbie whispers to her friend. The bully would never let them live something like that down. "I'll try to catch the leader. Even if it's not Izzy, who- or whatever it might scare the birds off!"
OOC:
Not trying to pile up so many rolls at one, but Robbie will try to catch the bird who seems to be the smartest. I think that'd be a Move roll?

Emilia sighs as for a moment the others seem to ignore her warnings and continuing to talk about catching the birds.

When they do notice Robbie had a point. If it was someone with school and she got caught talking to birds, and hanging out with these two.. She crouches and back up slightly trying to stay out of sight of whoever is approaching.

OOC:
5d6! Wow, she's smart. - I like the use of the investigate roll and will apply the success to the degree of knowledge she discovers.
As Tanya cautiously approaches the source of the rustling noise in the nearby brush, her eyes begin to adjust to the dim light filtering through the foliage. Based on the rustling sounds and the occasional glimpses of movement among the leaves, she has a strong suspicion that it's a small dog. Its presence is becoming more evident as it continues to explore the area nearby.

Tanya anticipates that it will likely soon emerge from the brush, a prospect that could potentially startle the pigeons and disrupt their interaction with the unusual birds.

"Hey I think that dog is coming from the brush. It's gonna scare off our feathered freaks..." she whispers to the others, pointing at the spot where she sees it.
Sep 13, 2023 3:59 pm
As Tanya whispers her concern about the potential arrival of a dog, the tension in the air escalates. The group of pigeons, still fixated on the scattered bread and broken mirror, momentarily freeze in response to the "smartest" bird's utterance of "Hush." The rustling in the brush grows louder. The one pigeon that has yet to speak finally breaks its silence, its voice amplified in panic as it issues a warning to the group, "Beware the scourge of the wood approaches."

A small white dog suddenly leaps out of the brush, its fluffy white coat rustling as it darts toward the group of pigeons and the kids. Chaos erupts as the pigeons scatter in all directions.

Amidst the chaos, Robbie reacts swiftly. She lunges toward the pigeon, her hand closing around its small body. She has successfully caught the bird.

As the dog barks excitedly and continues to chase after the pigeons, the remaining birds scatter further, their mechanical voices chattering in alarm.
Sep 13, 2023 4:05 pm
"I got it, I got it, I got it!" Robbie cheers excitedly. "But we need to put it somewhere it can't escape." She thinks for a moment before saying, "We have cages at home, but I don't suppose either of you has anything here that could make carrying it easier?"
She then moves the bird in her hands so it can look at her face. "Sorry, little guy, but we have to figure out what's going on with you!"

Pigeon
The pigeon struggles to free itself, and loudly alternates between squawking and saying "help!"
Sep 13, 2023 4:28 pm
As the bird starts calling for help Emilia rushes up to Robbie holding the broken mirror trying to get the birds attention.

'Don't panic, don' t panic. Look it's shiny. You like shiny right?'

She had no idea what they we going to do with a talking bird but it getting attention was probably not a good thing.

"Oh well, at least the doggy doesn't speak..." she comments to self, when pandemonium ensues. "This place was starting to feel like Disneyland."

"Of course we gotta find out! this could be the scientific discovery of the century!" she tells Emilia.
Sep 13, 2023 4:50 pm
"Well, if you're dreaming, then why not just go along with it?" Robbie suggests to Emilia with a big grin. "And besides, look at how cute this little fellow is. Do you really just want us to let him go again?" She holds out the pigeon to Emilia.

With a small giggle, she then adds, "And if you are dreaming, then I'm honored that you're dreaming about us!"

Now that everyone is close to the pigeon, can you all please make a comprehend roll? I’m looking for at least one success.

If there are no successes, you may use luck or push the rule. pushing the role will most likely result in either becoming injured from a pecking bird, becoming upset because you know there is something more but just can’t see it (I’m smarter than this), or becoming scared because talking birds are weird.

The characters will always find enough clues to move the story forward, so failing in a situation like this means they simply wouldn’t have the full picture. I hope that helps on deciding whether to reroll.

Tanya has a sudden suspicion to the bird’s behavior. She confirms this when she finds tiny stitches on the bird's feathers, barely discernible at first glance. The size of the stitches are just big enough to insert a microchip.

As she observes this, her memory seems to be triggered, flooding her mind with a wealth of information about this particular type and species of pigeon. She recalls detailed knowledge about their dietary preferences, nesting habits, and even their migratory patterns.

Such as…

The pigeon is a member of the common rock pigeon species (Columba livia), known for its adaptability to urban environments.

These pigeons are omnivorous, primarily feeding on seeds, grains, and small insects…

Sep 13, 2023 6:40 pm
A little scared, but secretly pleased by the onrush of information, she gasps, showing the stitches to her friends.
"Look! They've been... Tampered with. Something has been inserted in the birds... This is no natural phenomenon..." she says in a conspiratorial whisper.

Then she cannot help but add, "plural: phenomena. "
Sep 13, 2023 6:46 pm
"Oh no, did someone hurt you, little bird?" Robbie asks the pigeon when Tanya shows them the stitches. She turns to her friends. "Let's go to my parents' farm quickly so we can put him in a cage. We'll figure out what to do next then."
Sep 13, 2023 7:26 pm
'I don't...I wouldn't dream..' Emilia goes slight red as she looks away with a huff, at least until they are shown the stitches.

'Did they like.. stick a sound box in there or something? There's voice do sound.. not like I'd imagine birds sound like. Not that I imagine what birds sound like.'

I think we can wrap up the scene.

The events that happen between now and the end of school tomorrow can probably be summarized. I imagine that the kids will want to continue investigating these strange birds, but they still have their everyday responsibilities.

Ultimately I need to know when all three plan on meeting together again after today. It’s also good to think about their motivation for pursuing the mystery ( I have my thoughts as to why each kid does if you are looking for some ideas)

We also need to know what they do with the pigeon, and if they spend any time between now and the next scene researching, asking questions, exploring, etc…

If you have an individual everyday scene for your character that you would like to play out, please let me know. I have some ideas for everyday scenes for later.

Ask me any questions you have about the story or information you need to help fill in the blanks!

Robbie would bring the bird home with her and lock him in a cage. I figure they probably have something like a rabbit hutch on the farm, so she would put him in there and give him some food, like chicken seeds and she might even dig for worms for him. Basically, outside of her chores and dinner, she'd then just spend a lot of time just talking to the bird, trying to figure out how smart it is (with or without the others).
I don't really have an idea for a scene to do right now. I'll definitely want to speak to Emilia's mom at some point, but that might make more sense later on when I'll need my anchor.

Something we’ll need to think on is where Robbie is able to speak with Emilia’s mom. Her mother isn’t home often, and Emilia herself doesn’t have many opportunities to speak with her. It will definitely become a point of tension between Robbie and Emilia because not only is Robbie getting time with Emilia’s mom, but Emilia is protective of her home life. She lets on that her life is much more glamorous than it truly is, and I doubt she’ll be happy with the possibility of that secret getting out.

I think the idea was that Robbie met Tyra because she's a transport driver who also transports things for the Åströms, so I think they would mostly interact when she comes by the farm during work

That makes perfect sense. Sounds good to me!

happy to close the scene, Tanya would accompany Robbie home to see the pigeon securely in the cage.
That night at dinner, she would ask her engineer/scientist Mom if she heard of anything like that, tests on birds to make them talk using inserted electronics...

I think Robbie wouldn't tell her parents about the voice, just that the pigeon is for a school project and not to worry about it and that she will take care of it.

Yep that was the plan I believe.

Emilia will porbably be torn about meeting up with the others the next day and give a non commital answer, but curiosity will cause her to turn up..that and likely avoiding Izzy for a bit.

–The Rest of the Day–
The rest of the day unfolds in the following manner:

Robbie decides to bring the talking bird home and sets up a makeshift shelter for it in an old rabbit hutch. Her parents show curiosity about the new addition to their household but don't inquire much about it beyond making casual comments like, "I see you've made a new friend." Both of Robbie's parents are supportive, and it's her father who suggests repurposing the rabbit hutch for the bird.

Tanya decides to approach her mother. She asks if there are any experiments involving birds that use electronic devices to make them talk. Tanya's mother is appalled by the idea and finds it hard to believe that anyone would engage in such practices. Nevertheless, she seizes this opportunity to steer Tanya's interests toward STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics), emphasizing the fascinating and beneficial aspects of technology in the animal world. She encourages Tanya to explore non-fiction books related to these subjects during her next library visit, rather than her usual fiction literature choices.

Emilia returns home to find an empty house, her mother busy with work. She's left to her own devices for the evening.
