Town Guard
A short time later, the first of the town guard arrives. He greets Peldan and Fauntleroy, then surveys the scene. "Bloody raiders. It’s been awhile since they’ve been this far north. The Blades usually attack temples, factories and such. Anywhere they can finds relics. What in the Three Dragons did they want with your little tavern?"
Nov 19, 2023 2:30 am
OOC:
would Peldan know this town guard personally/by name? ie: has he been a patron of the inn's tavern? a regular?
Nov 19, 2023 2:41 am
OOC:
You have dealt with him before, his name is Thomas. The clientele of the Little Hen being what they are, has attracted the attention of the guard before.

Peldan took a moment to collect himself, ready to provide Thomas with a detailed account of the events that had unfolded. "Thomas, it appears that the warforged who entered our tavern were in search of a band of thieves," he began, his voice filled with a mix of urgency and concern. "However, both Fauntleroy and I can assure you that none of our patrons have any knowledge or affiliation with such a group."

Peldan continued, his voice tinged with frustration. "Their leader seemed displeased by our lack of information and threatened to stay for what he called 'entertainment' of their own. It quickly became apparent that their idea of entertainment involved violence."

His expression hardened as he recounted the ensuing events. "I promptly ordered them to leave my establishment, but their leader physically confronted me, poking me with his sword and instructing his men to 'take me'. At that point, myself and a few brave patrons, confident that they would not heed my words, took up arms in defense of ourselves and others."

Peldan's gaze shifted to the valiant individuals who had come to his aid. "Thanks to these heroes among us, we were able to thwart the threat and protect ourselves and the innocent bystanders. Only a few injuries were sustained, including two of our patrons, myself with a chest wound from a javelin, and a few others who came to our aid."

Peldan turned to SheK, gratitude evident in his eyes. "This remarkable woman, SheK, utilized her healing magic to tend to the wounded. Her swift actions played a vital role in ensuring their well-being."

Returning his focus to Thomas, Peldan expressed a mix of determination and reliance on the town guard. "And now, in the aftermath of these chaotic events, we find ourselves here, seeking your guidance and assistance, Thomas. We need to handle the aftermath of this situation and ensure the safety of our patrons and this establishment."

Peldan's words conveyed a sense of urgency, as he placed his trust in the authorities to help restore order and security to his cherished tavern.

Town Guard
Thomas the guard chuckles at the halfling. "Ever the fast talker. If it is as you say, we shall keep an eye out for more. I’ve heard the rumours of what’s happening in Salvation. I hope their problem isn’t making its way here.", he says gravely.

To the group he says, "You handled these soldiers well. Thank you for protecting our townsfolk."
Addressing SheK he says, "Thank you for tending to the injured. Our town could use more like you."

Looking at the fallen soldiers once more, Thomas says, "I’ll have a wagon sent over to pick them up. Be sure to call us if you see anymore trouble."

He reaches down and grabs the ankles of the warforged closest to the door and begins dragging him out to the street. "Save me a drink.", he grunts to Fauntleroy.

Outside, the sun is beginning to set. The guard sees 37 standing in thought. "It must be hard. To know it is forbidden to make more of your kind. Yet, misguided ones such as these, so willingly hurry your extinction.", Thomas says somberly. He shakes his head, "You have my sympathy."

37 doesn't look at the guard. "We hated being controlled by others... and when given freedom, the first act many of us resorted to was attempting to control others."

There is a pregnant pause before the warforged craftsman continues.

"I don't know if it is revenge, or if it all they know," 37 muses aloud. "I just don't understand how they're ok with being every bit as wrong as the people who did it to us."

GeneCortess says:
SheK slightly interrupts and defends 37 a bit by saying, "Those dead ones there are blades and our 37 not."
OOC:
37 was outside, and AFAIK everyone else is i side currently.

Town Guard
The Guard claps his hand on 37’s shoulder. "Not all, good sir. There are many of your kind in town. Earning an honest living. One is even a temple cleric, if you can believe it. You’re more than what you’ve been designed for."

Thomas continues back into the tavern to retrieve the next body. As 37 stands outside, a few other guards arrive, followed by the wagon. Shortly after, the bodies loaded up, the guards wish you all a good evening and take the dead soldiers away.

Inside the tavern, Fauntleroy carries the still snoring Belaluur to a room upstairs. The evening crowd dies down as the excitement dwindles till there’s no one but your party left.
OOC:
The rest of the evening is yours. It seems the plan is to board the morning train. If so, I’ll have a post up by the end of tonight.
Nov 20, 2023 1:54 am
Vice will spend the evening listening to stories in the tavern, and entertaining the crowd every now and then. He'll turn in at a reasonable hour to ready for the day ahead.

Fauntleroy is replaced by the night concierge. A well dressed halfling named Glavin. He too is very friendly, as you have come to expect of the Little Hen staff. The Aarakocra bids you all a good night. "It has been a pleasure, Gentlemen and my Lady. I’m certain we’ll meet again. Give Bela my best."

In the morning, Belaluur beats you to breakfast. Despite her early evening, she is back to her cheeky self. A few others are enjoying breakfast of eggs and bacon. The aroma of fresh coffee fills the tavern. You let Belaluur know your plan to take the rail. "The train leaves in just over an hour.", checking a timepiece on a golden chain, she continues. "I planned to be on the same train. Shall we travel together?"

Before we pay for tickets Buff volunteer to cover train expenses
It would only be fair to spend the 50 silver from warforged we killed.
OOC:
Is it 12 silver today and was 10 yesterday? Prices rise ? Anyway, not a big deal, buy 7 tickets (including my steel defender) that would be 8.4 gp minus 5 I've retrieved after combat.
Nov 20, 2023 1:57 pm
OOC:
10 silver, it was a typo.

Kleber nods at the scrap seller, his mouth filled with bacon. He swallows before cautioning Belaluur. "Only if you have a way to protect yourself. I'm paranoid that the Blades will ambush us right when we step out of the train doors, maybe with a fireball or something."

He takes a swig of coffee, instantly feeling more awake. "Regarding the sheriff you mentioned while drunk, any chance he could assist us with the warforged? Even some militia armed with crossbows would be a great help."

Kleber now notices he doesn't actually know much about Salvation, heck he didn't even know the place had a sheriff.

SheK is mostly quiet as she enjoys her breakfast. Preferring extra beacon. She does what she does best and that is listen and be a piece of the furniture.
Nov 20, 2023 4:37 pm
At breakfast, Vice doesn't eat much, and he's so chatty that people assume he's already had a couple cups of coffee.
OOC:
how many cars does the train have?

Belaluur
Belaluur takes a sip of her coffee, "Sheriff will definitely help. Sadly, we don’t have a militia. Not many stable residents in Salvation. You know how it is. He does deputize those willing to help. A scavenger named Kalli is often one of the deputies.", she scoops a mouthful of eggs and chews in thought, "They don’t attack the trains or the passengers. They only ‘inspect’ its passengers. If we keep a low profile, we may get by them. They don’t bother me anymore."
Nov 20, 2023 9:14 pm
The half-orc nods to her, thinking on a way to deal with the "inspection" while waiting for the team to finish breakfast and head out.
Nov 20, 2023 9:34 pm
SheK mentions as she notes Kleber doing some thinking, "Perhaps some kind of distraction could aid us in not being "Inspected". She devours more beacon. :)

Upon waking up and getting ready for the day, Peldan went over to Fauntleroy's home, like he did every morning, to walk over to the inn together. On their walk over, the halfling thanked his friend for his efforts to keep the patrons safe during the warforged incident. He also thanked him for supporting his need to go on at least one adventure in his life, and that he looked forward to returning to tell him all about it. Once at the inn, Peldan joined the others for some breakfast. He had a modest plate of eggs, sausage, and patato hash along with a cup of strong coffee. It food was well seasoned and was served at just the right temperature. The coffee was very aromatic and slightly sweet...just the way he liked it.

Ser Armat ate a surprisingly simple breakfast of oatmeal, tea and an apple, the fare of a seasoned campaigner who did not wish distraction from bowel movements during battle.

"A good cover story might do just as well. Salvation is a hub for those who would venture into the Mournland. It must see bands of explorers on the regular. We may well pass as one of those."
