Salvation Outpost - Chapter 2

As Vice casts his illusory voice, he hears voices in the next room. He moves to conceal himself as footsteps approach. To his surprise, the trap door closes seamlessly into the floor without a trace.

A moment later, a large warforged kicks the door open. He scans the room, his glowing blue eyes in stark contrast to the hollow black eyes of the skeletons. After a moment, he shakes his head and retreats, "I’m telling you, this place is haunted…", he says to someone on the other side of the door. A loud, mocking laugh is heard as the Warforged leaves the room, "You know as well as I do, ghosts exist! You heard, right ma’am?"

As the door closes, you can hear the muffled sounds of an argument. As the illusion wears off, the gnome bolts from the back door. The effects of the cloak continue from inside the catacombs and Vice is able to sneak out of the church as the guard rounds the corner. He bolts back down the embankment and out of sight. The little rat runs up to him with a nervous squeak.
Dec 8, 2023 11:07 pm
"Oh, sure, now you're back. Although you bolting probably makes you smarter than me. Thanks for your help little one." He give the critter a scratch on his back, and one of his ration bars. Then Vice heads to find some more lively, human companions.

The little rat happily accepts Vice’s scitches and takes to chowing on the ration as the gnome walks away.

He runs into Belaluur as she arrives at Sheriff’s office. She takes in his dusty appearance, "Well, hello dear. I trust you had a moment to relax.", she says with a sly grin and continues inside.
OOC:
I believe that’s everyone at Sheriff’s office. Go ahead and hatch your plan. Sheriff and Belaluur are there to answer any other questions.

Vice wants to ask Belaluur about her ear, but has no time, as he has to pass on his intel, and see what the other have learned. Vice tell them of his misadventures, that only the smaller of them can take the path he did, that the Blades may think the church is haunted, and ask who gets to fire the canon?

"Blood of Vol, they only call a place holy if it has skeletons buried in it." Kleber shakes his head, hearing Vice's tale.

"Thought the Blades might've snagged you, Vice, seeing as you didn't show up. Glad I was wrong. Guess only you and Buff could slip through the basement." He strokes his chin. "You said a warforged was talking with their boss near the catacomb entrance, right? Any idea which wall is close to it? We could bring it down, get the jump on the giantess first, and maybe even trap her under the rubble."

Below is a recap to let me know what was said at Sheriff place.

Kleber, SheK and Buff enter Sheriff’s office and are greeted by a tall warforged, wearing a cowboy hat. His voice is deep and gravely as he introduces himself.

"Name’s Sheriff.", he says "Or, at least that’s the name the town gave me."

You explain that you’re here at the behest of Belaluur to aid in facing the warforged. "Well, we’re a town full of derelicts. These people know how to fight in a bar, not against a squad of soldiers. I’ll take any help I can get."

"Follow me, I have something to show you.". Sheriff bring you through the building to a set of stairs leading to the roof. Concealed from the view of the streets below, Sheriff gives you a glimpse of a cannon. Kleber immediately recognizes it as the broken elemental cannon discovered at the Cyre’s wreck site.

"Bela’s daughter helped fix it and get it back to working order." The cannon faces west down Main Street. You can just see the bell tower of the church in the distance. "Using a siege weapon in town isn’t the best idea, but I thought if we could lure that Titaness into its sights, we might get a lucky shot on her.", he pauses for a moment, "…or put a hole in poor Ms. Moody’s house.", he says with a chuckled. "Any of you ever fire one of these things?"
_____________________________________________________________________________________________

Buff is delighted about the Elemental Cannon: I've maintained some canons during the war. Operating them don't take a skill just luck. But a three man team.
OOC:
as a player I assume so since it's to hit does not depend on dex

Would any of your mentioned derelicts be able to operate this cannon?

In any case he would wait for whole team to arrive and decide on further actions.

"Belaluur would have my armour for saying this out loud, but her daughter, knows her way around these types of contraptions."

Shek says, "I do think that weapon has got to hurt."
_____________________________________________________________________________

"Will definitely do more than just hurt." Kleber remarks, eyeing the cannon with a grin. "Forget burning down the place, this will handle things pretty nicely."

Moving closer he peers into the weapon's barrel. "How much ammo do we have to fire it Sheriff?"
______________________________________________________________________

Sheriff "Adrianus has been discreetly bringing me a cannon ball at a time. He’s managed to forge six so far without drawing attention.", he scratches at the wooden fibres of his neck, "Don’t exactly have a lot of materials coming into town right now either. Sneaking iron from Colton’s scrapyard has been… tricky. Kalli has helped a lot with that. Have you met her?"

Break Restarting

I believe that’s everyone at Sheriff’s office. Go ahead and hatch your plan. Sheriff and Belaluur are there to answer any other questions.

Shek just adds in, "More information we can use to our advantage."

"I would sleep easier knowing the Titaness was defeated. I prefer trying to draw her out into the open and letting Sheriff show her might of the elemental canon. . . Come to think of it, have any of the townspeople mentioned actually seeing the Titan's leader? "
Dec 10, 2023 9:01 am
I'd prefer start by bringing down blade patrols one-by-one Buff suggest divide-and-conquer approach

He asks Belaluur: Would your daughter and two more volunteers be willing to assist with cannon once the streets are secure?
Adrianus left a very good impression Bafrag thinks would be great to have him and two more persons operating the cannon while we entice titan.
OOC:

If 37 share the info he gathered we may even wait next train to also kill The captain who joins the patrollers for a short time - I mean - before fighting big boss

Peldan listened to the others, waiting for an opportune time to speak. When that opportunity arose, he spoke:

It seems that the warforged, that hunted all of you down and confronted you at my inn, were looking for something more than just your cart. Apparently the lot of you found something that they "need".

One of the warforged here was overheard speaking about some one they referred to as "The Becoming God". My guess is that this 'item' is something they need to assist this God in its 'becoming'. Any idea what that 'item' might be?

According to my source, there are those in town that would help fight, should they be needed."
Dec 10, 2023 11:38 pm
"I admit to being unattentive to details, but I don't recall anything that could assist in 'god becoming'.

Noble of the townspeople to help, but I'd rather they didn't get hurt helping clean up our mistakes. Maybe they could be a distraction or diversion in our plan?

What is our plan by the way?"
Vice ask
Dec 11, 2023 10:45 am
"Not exactly plan, more of an aim to hit their leader with our new toy." Kleber points with his thumb toward the cannon. "As Buff said, we'll need to clear the streets to aim it properly, then draw the target out. I guess me, you or 37 could serve as bait, the Blades are here after our asses after all"
Dec 11, 2023 2:45 pm
"I will go."

The comment is simple, but 37's tone is resolute.
Dec 11, 2023 4:16 pm
Sounds like a good plan. Should be too hard to find their leader.
Dec 11, 2023 4:20 pm
37 shares the patrol information he gathered during his earlier walk, and follows up with a question:

"Do we still wish to ambush patrols to thin their numbers?"
Dec 11, 2023 4:46 pm
Vice is playing with a chakram, balancing it on the back of his hand, but he speaks up at 37's question. "Maybe we can leave that to the townspeople that volunteer? That way we can put our full effort toward the leader and her personal guards, and we won't alert them to our presence, if we haven't already."
Dec 11, 2023 6:27 pm
37 shakes his head. "I would prefer not to involve the townsfolk. They are in this situation at least in part due to us, and I do not feel right asking them to assist in fixing a problem we created."
Dec 11, 2023 6:42 pm
Vice has moved to trying to balance his weapon on one of his knees. But sees the truth in 37's words. "How many patrols are there? Are there enough of is to split up, hit all the patrols, then meet at the church?
Or should those of us the Blades know of head straight to the church, using Kleber's bait plan?"
Dec 12, 2023 2:41 am
GreyWord says:
He asks Belaluur: Would your daughter and two more volunteers be willing to assist with cannon once the streets are secure?
Adrianus left a very good impression Bafrag thinks would be great to have him and two more persons operating the cannon while we entice titan.
Belaluur
"Garundah?", Belaluur folds her arms and gives Sheriff a look, "I don’t know what this bucket of bolts has been telling you.."

Sheriff
Sheriff calmly raises his hand to shush the goblin mother, "You know as well as I do, she’s old enough to make up her own mind. She’s nearly sixteen. She’s skilled. She’s even teaching Adrianus a thing or two. Besides, as I’ve been told, you’d already lost your ear by her age."

Garundah
A skinny, energetic goblin leaps from behind the counter onto the top. Her goggles pulled over her eyes, she brushes her red hair out of face. "Thanks Sheriff. I’m glad to help!", she looks to Buff, "You sure you don’t want to be up there with me, Tinker?"

Belaluur, just sits there steaming in silence for a moment.
Dec 13, 2023 6:23 am
How about: I stay with cannon team. Should titan get close I cover retreat. I want to believe my armor can handle some beating. And bet we will take her out before that even happens.

Buff would also suggest that Garundah will hate to miss seeing cannon in action. I mean she would probably be angry for a decade if that's her first big artifact, wouldn't she?
Dec 13, 2023 2:00 pm
"If I were to offer something resembling a plan..." 37 begins, "It would be this..."

He repositions himself as he talks, so he can see everyone gathered. He uses the movement as a chance to finalize his thoughts. "A crew stays here with the cannon. The rest of us pick an avenue of approach, based on the patrol paterns observed, that would allow us to engage patrols as we move to the church.

Once the fighting starts, that's it. Cat and mouse is likely over -- odds are we won't be able to vanish and surprise the next patrol. That said, we ambush whoever we can. We whittle down their numbers, as we move towards the main force.

If, by some divine intervention, they haven't moved out of the church by the time our band arrives... you all hang back. I'll go forward as bait to attempt to set up the cannon shot. And then... well, then we see what happens.

I would also like to point out the statistical probability of this plan surviving first contact with the enemy is minimal. To that... we all have a general understanding of what needs to happen. We can improvise."

With that, 37 falls silent and waits for feedback, dissension, other ideas, or whatever else the group has.
