Salvation Outpost - Chapter 2

37 turns the key. He feels the magical resistance of the ward, then hears a mechanical click, followed by a second click. The latch pops open and the artificer notices a secondary device was also disarmed by the key. A small vial of black liquid is connected to a needle just above the keyhole.

Inside he finds a small collection of Cyran women’s fashion. A box of jewellery, the gem of one ring glows red within it. A dark purple amulet does quite the opposite, seeming to absorb the light. There is also a long, hooded cloak, as well as a pair of boots that seem to make no sound as they are set down. Lastly, a deck of Tarroka cards and a pouch containing nine hundred and thirty gold pieces.

The automaton peers up at the warforged 37, "you are not blades…", Famul says. 37 isn’t sure if this is a question or a statement.
OOC:
Anyone can roll an arcana or investigation check or cast identify to learn more.

Armat grips his halberd, and steps next to the automaton...

"No, we are not. The Blades here were hurting good people, and we had to stop them," 37 replies to Famul without looking over at the small construct.

With that, 37 will say a small mantra and gesture subtly to focus his mind as he begins scrutinizing the items gathered.
OOC:
Really need to make a point of buying a pearl worth 100gp. Lol

Once again, 37’s experience with the Cyran warforged comes in useful. He recognizes all the items, including the boots he removed from Titaness.

Famul nods, and noticing Armat, cowers slightly and backs away. Once more running his metal fingers over his dents, he says, "the lady was devoted… the lady was misguided… the lord tricked the lady… the lady did not always choose violence… famul does not choose violence…"
OOC:
I guess I need to bump up my DC…

OOC:
SheK is most interested in the Boots of Misty Step.

She has Misty Step from Fey Touched and can cast Misty Step as a level 2 slot spell.

I do not understand "If the wearer has Misty Step as a cantrip, they may double its range." Misty Step is a level 2 spell and not a cantrip.

OOC:
That’s my fault, I had considered allowing the boots to use Misty Step as a cantrip, rather than spell, but thought that was too broken. Forgot to change the wording back. Thank you for the catch. It’s been edited

Vice looks closely at the boots, noticing that they match his cloak. He tries not to sound disappointed "Was rather hoping for a pile of platinum. These weapons aren't going to enchant themselves." he say, clinging two chakram together
OOC:
not sure if Vice needs the boots if he already has the cloak, but will definitely take them if no one else wants them.

Peldan had remained silent following the battle and simply followed the others as they made their way to the church. He found himself brooding over just how ineffective he was in aiding the others in battle. He realized he was 'new' to adventuring, but didn't realize just how much he needed to learn in order to feel like a contributing member. He was amazed at Armat's battle prowess and felt the man likely had never experienced such feelings of uselessness.

Once they'd entered the church, Peldan found himself rather intrigued by the automaton that called itself 'Famul'. He moved near it and sat down at a respectable distance, though close enough that he could speak to it in quiet tones. "Now that you no longer have the giantess to serve, do you wish to be free of servitude...or do you think you'll seek out someone else to provide service too?"
OOC:
sorry for the absence this past week. It was a busy one. Things have settled back down and I've got a fair bit of time over then next several weeks.

Obviously, as a Warlock, the Dark Amulet would be of considerable interest to Peldan. The Misty Step boots would be of interest to Peldan as well, but he is the new guy and won't be making loot requests any time soon, he'll only accept things if they are left over or offered at this point. Given his poor performance in the battle recently, he would be too ashamed to assume he has any right to make requests.

OOC:
Of what's here, the Cloak of Protection would fit 37 the best.
Looking over at the accumulated knowledge, 37 inquires, "What have we learned?"
May 9, 2024 6:36 pm
Vice adds "And let's not forget we still need to find this Windchaser person. Maybe the maps will help?"
May 9, 2024 7:09 pm
Ser Armat frowned at Famul, but did not ease his stance.
"Lord? What Lord? The Lord of Blades? You have seen him?"
OOC:
The cloak would be of obvious use to Armat as well, but the boots less so since he will be using a mount soon. But I'll gladly pass on the cloak for the ring. It may have some nice utility later on and having a few ranged offensive spells once its quest is completed will be ideal for Armat in situations where he cannot get into melee range for whatever reason. Also fireballs.

Famul
The automaton looks back and forth at the new questions from the newcomer and the red knight, "famul servant… now famul has no maiden to serve… do you need servant…", he first answers to Peldan.

Before waiting for Peldan, he flinches at Armat, "yes… the lord of blades…", he points to the blades crest on Titaness’ shield. "the lord is tyrant… famul did not see the lord… only the lady saw the lord… the lord sent the lady to find malleator… malleator is no more…"
May 9, 2024 7:54 pm
A sense of foreboding crossed Armat's thoughts, for if the Lord of Blades' mind was on this town, this titan and its minions were not the last incursion that would be sent here. That foul insurgent terrorist was known to all near the the Mournland, but its designs and plans were not. Perhaps that was about to change however...
"Malleator? Who was he, and why did they need to find him?"
May 9, 2024 7:57 pm
Peldan takes a moment to consider the autiomaton's inquiry. He words his response carefully: "If you are in need of someone to serve, I would be honored to be that someone, but it would need to be your choice. I do not believe in forcing anyone into service."

Famul
For the first time the automaton looks at Armat in the eyes, he sets Peldan’s question aside for a moment, "malleator sought the becoming god… malleator claimed to find one…"

Looking over at the accumulated knowledge, 37 inquires, "What have we learned?"
"I learned I need a damn elven dictionary, why are their words so loopy?" he ranger says, shaking one of handwritten notes before setting it down with a sigh and rubbed his temple.

"Blades squatting a Vol church and searching for a bloke aiming for ascension? Guess the Lord wants to settle some scores from the back of the war, or Khyber's bowels have frozen over and they decided to team up."
May 9, 2024 10:38 pm
"The Blood of Vol has no churches." Ser Armat corrected Kleber. "This may have been a gathering place for Seekers once, but it was since converted to a church to one of the false gods. And while we look for immortality, we do not seek to become Gods. At least not in the sense of the deities of the Sovereign Host or the other religions. So I wonder what this 'becoming god' business is."
The red knight looked at the automaton. It did not seem intelligent. Just a simple-minded servant creature. He wondered if they could get anything sensible out of it..
May 9, 2024 11:20 pm
Kleber pauses at the mention that the Vols had no church, confirming they accepted undeath. It was the only digging he had done about the cults before deciding it was enough.

"Then we're dealing with a heretic among the weirdos."
the half-orc says after collecting his thoughts. "Finding a god, as if anyone can agree what such a thing would even be. Famul, was it? Is this Malleator somewhere here on Salvation?"

Famul
"the warforged have no god… the soul touched have their gods… the devoted wish to make a warforged god… malleator claimed to find one… a colossus… malleator was a titan like the lady… the camp was raided… the lady said the lightning cart was taken… a man said the lightning cart was in salvation outpost… "

He turns back to Peldan, "famul could be a servant for your group… famul does not want to return to the blades…
May 10, 2024 4:56 am
37 looks up from his reading, making eye contact with the small construct. "Then you shall not return to the Blades. We welcome you."
