Question for you all. I like to do dungeon crawls, but PbPs may not be the best place for them. I wanted to see what you all thought...

Thoughts on dungeon crawls? Public

I like them, keep them the way they are
I like them, but we need to speed things up
I don't like them, let's make this the last one

I'm neutral on them, hence my vote. I've seen some games abstract dungeon crawling via a few rolls (some version of Orientation or Architecture of whatever's appropriate). But a traditional dungeon crawl is fine, maybe with some ground rules like, "assume we always hug the left wall;" assume we always look for traps, assume we always listen at closed doors; assume we always go in XYZ order, or some such?

Is the dungeon crawl making things awkward to post? If so, I can skip some of it to speed things up, help us get out faster, and focus less on dungeons and more on situations

More on situations is best I think. If there is an encounter lets hit it. The crawl part is the worst part of adungeon in PbP I think

Yeah, I think encounter-based play is just easier to run in PbP. Nothing against the venerable dungeon crawl, but it's hard to do in a delayed format like this. I've noticed a lot of games abstracting the dungeon crawl. For instance, maybe we make a check with relevant background to navigate to the next encounter, and the results dictate whether we do so quickly or slowly (and thus lose resources like torches, etc.)

I have the Trap Sense feature: If a rogue’s skill check involving a trap is a natural even failure, the rogue can reroll the skill check once. If a trap’s attack roll against a rogue is a natural odd roll, the rogue can force the trap to reroll the attack once.

But I don't know if my Trained Assassin backround could be used to deal with traps.

Whether "Trained assassin" makes you good with traps is up to you. Backgrounds should be narrow enough that it makes sense when they aren't applicable, but also broad enough that you get to use it a few times per session. If you want to say "As part of my assassinations, I had to disable alarms and other things to not get caught", that could make you ok with traps.

Going to give @Falconloft the chance to comment on the foul smell and sounds in character before I proceed. From what I'm hearing, Makasi and Edgar are good to go in, even if it is gross, and Hrafe is questioning if they should.

What is the party plan? I don't want to automatically make a fight happen in case someone has an idea, but it looks like these creatures are aggressive.
