Yikes, Falconloft. Sorry you're going through it. Glad to hear things are easing up, though.

Sorry to hear about all that. I've been through the car wreck thing recently.

@SavageBob what is Makasi going to do on her turn?
Feb 23, 2024 12:02 am
If I don't see a post for Ylliane's turn by tomorrow afternoon I'll have her just move once and fire her bow

@ironmonger42 Got bogged down with work last week, should be good now.

All good. I am waiting for one or two more people to say what they are doing so I can narrate multiple actions at once. You can go back to the first room and take a look around, talk to your captive, explore areas that are hidden.

My only ask is that you don't cross the bridge until you are all ready. You'll know the bridge I refer to when you see it.

I'll narrate what the elf says once I know what at least 3 PCs are doing

In the meantime, any feedback on the last battle? It was more tactical than I think the others have been. I'm still trying to figure out how I want to deal with distances in dungeon areas, as 13th age's abstract distances seem to assume you are staying in 1 room but I had the enemy flee because I thought they was less boring than every enemy fighting to the death

I also really enjoy using dungeons, as the work well for making explorable areas while also constraining options to stay focused and prevent there from being too many options at any point in time.

I liked it. The extra movement keeps the fights from feeling stale the way they do sometimes when every fight happens in a rectangle.

One thing I do with rooms like that sometimes is 'around the corner' is far away, no matter how long the corner is (cuz in the middle of all the running to get to the other corner no combat is really happening), but you can make it in one move if you don't want to be particularly careful as you come around the corner, so the enemy gets an AO as you arrive. Not RAW, but 13A is pretty flexible.

I may try this. In general a move gets you this far:
- one far side of a room to another
- the middle of the room to anywhere else in the room
- the room you are in to the hallway to the next room (if a long hallways in that map) or the next room (if just a door), with your position in the hallway or room being about where you were in the last room (so middle to middle or if you were right by the hallway or door then you can go to the otherwise of the hallways or door)

If you have to change areas and were on the far side or middle of the previous room, you must spend 2 moves, once to get to the new area and one to go from free to engaged.

If the room is large, I will explain what kind of zones would be like a single room for movement purposes. This if a place is big enough then two moves might only take you half or 2/3 way across a room.

For the purposes of how far someone is to be far from you and still a valid target for bows and spells with a range of far, if you use one move to get closer and they are not within one more to engage or they are more than 2 moves aways they are too far to attack

[ +- ] reference
For example, you could use 1 move to engage anyone in the first room (4 Xs, I know I ruled otherwise earlier but in hindsight probably should not have), 1 move to go from the first room to the hallway, or 2 moves to go from the first room to the hallway and engage anyone in the hallway

Yeah, I liked it, too. One way to spice up combats is to use the terrain to add interesting effects, and I think you did that here. Other ways are things like drop offs, lava pits, mud puddles, etc. etc.

So it seems there is a problem with on the fly battle maps when using an image from imgur.com. I was hoping to do a cool dungeon not too long from now after you guys finish this place, but the map I wanted to use has to be resized for itfbm to fit right. I'm not sure where to host it online if not imgur. Anyone know a place?

imgbb seems to work.

otfbm is aware of the issue and trying to fix it, but it's mostly imgur not wanting people to do exactly what they're doing with otfbm, so....

Ready for the next round of combat. Anyone who does not post by Wednesday will be assumed to just make a basic attack against the nearest alive enemy, moving if necessary.

Just tried it on a battle map I had prepared for later here that stopped working because it was on IMGUR. Works now! Thank you!

Um... I am not entirely sure if I got this right, but I think Hrafe had 22 hp and just took 64 (28 + 8 from the monster dealing 2d6 more damage on a natural even hit doubled by a crit), which would take him down to -42, which I think means....dead? Please correct me if anything is wrong, such as if Hrafe had not updated his health from when he used unstoppable
[ +- ] dying rules
Note: makasi's invocation of life means Hrafe dies at -max hp instead of -1/2 max HP, so if there is any reason Hrafe would.have take 3 less damage he is alive but dying

Well it was fun.

What do you want to do now? New character? Come up with a reason they get resurrected?
Apr 2, 2024 2:41 am
Um, wow! Part of the reason Makasi wanted to interrogate the prisoner was to find out about his boss—but he mentioned nothing about his boss being some huge brute who can one-shot anyone in our party!

I'll leave it to Jomsviking to decide how to proceed, but I'm not seeing a way we win this fight with him down.
