So one of the lizardmen is killed, leaving the other that has all of its 30 hp left. I had Salix use his delayed turn from earlier to finish off the one that Makasi ALMOST finished off. (I just realized, though, as a wood elf he might have gotten 2 turns, so i'll go back and see if that happened. EDIT: i did, and i got a 4. wood elfs get 2 turns if they roll a d6 and get a value equal to the escalation die or less, with the d6 growing each time they get that extra turn. Since this turn was from last turn, the escalation die was still a 3 back then. Now it is a 4)

As for Edgar, i had the lizardman attack you because he could see you were eyeing him and you were the closest person that was about to go. If an 18 hit your PD, then you lost momentum. You can still try your trick, but it will be a Strength check using some background that would make sense for someone good at wrestling or fisticuffs, and the DC would be 20 (because the tower is a champion tier environment and DCs in 13th age are determined by the environment, not the enemies).

One other thing, i had Makasi only engage with the lizardman that she attacked, but if the goal was to move so that she'd be engaged with both lizardmen so that she'd still be engaged with the other one when her turn ended, I can make that change (D5 instead of E4)

The last lizardman has 15 hp left. If Edgar finishes his turn and Salix has not acted, I'll have Salix use Javelin of Faith again. As a wood elf, if Salix rolls a 4 or less on the d6, he'll get 2 standard actions this turn. There is a good chance that, with the escalation die this high and Salix attacking PD not AC, that if Edgar hits then the lizardman should die.

Woo we may still succeed!

15 hp left and I end up doing 14. That's quite on brand for me :P

Ok, since i have not seen RAAMtentacles say anything in this long, i'm going to have him use javelin of faith. he is a wood elf so there is a 66% chance he gets to make 2 attacks at this round.

So, you guys manage to save the mages, but the traitor got away. With his flight and speed, as well as a successful disengage roll, he can't be hit anymore.

When you are finished with your level up, vote below and I'll inspect Public

I am done leveling up

With only 6hp left and given that Glaezentorg is magical, would Hrafe(on a successful dexterity check) be able to throw it at Big Z as he flees? Perhaps risking losing Glaezentorg or damaging himself in the process.

If not thats fine. Having a nemesis is always fun.

No, he is too far away. Thrown weapons can't be thrown at far range, and at this point even a spell with a range of far would not be able to hit him. You had a 50% chance to get one finally attack and he rolled too high

Also, keep in mind, you did not get a full heal up as part of leveling up. As such, you need to roll recovery dice to determine if you are at full HP for the next fight or not. Please roll the recovery dice here or in the chapter 1 thread. these recovery dice should involve 2 dice, not 1, as you are rolling recovery dice as a 2nd level character now.

I had 18 hp left

Rolling recoveries in the thread

I'll keep the Smite Evil Adventurer feat for my level up.

Just so I understand — we each get a certain number of recoveries per day, right? I also have Lay on Hands, which lets me let someone roll a normal recovery, but I lose the Recovery from my stash rather than them losing it from theirs. (So anyone who is low on recoveries, let me know.) Finally, we also have healing items, like healing potions, available. And both I and our cleric theoretically have access to healing via spells.

Am I understanding this correctly?

Rolling my recovery in the main thread. For some reason, rolls aren't allowed in this thread. I only lost 6 HP, but I didn't solo the boss! (I accidentally only rolled 1d10 for recovery, but it's moot, as I got more HP back than I lost regardless.)

Everyone has 8 recoveries per full heal up. Anytime you are healed, like with a healing potion or spell, a recovery is expended in the process unless it says that the healing is a "free recovery". So if you drink a healing potion, you still roll a recovery and lose that recovery, but potions give you bonus healing on top of the recovery you rolled.

Main thing to remember: you always spend a recovery unless it uses the phrase "free recovery". If anyone heals without a free recovery and was out of recoveries, there are penalties

Technically fighters get an additional recovery :P

testlum says:
Technically fighters get an additional recovery :P
That is true, and I think they can get a 10yh with a certain talent and/or feat

Ah, gotcha. So always takes a recovery, only certain items and powers let those recoveries be better. Makes sense.
Dec 17, 2023 8:59 pm
Correct. The Cure Wounds spell is an example of something that provides a "free recovery". This means the target rolls the recovery, but if they had 5 out of 8 left, they still have all 5 after they roll. if it just said "a recovery", they would have only 4 left after rolling.

I will pilot Salix this fight unless RAAMtentacles comes back. If RAAMtentacles doesn't say anything for 1 whole week from today, I'm going to assume something happened and he isn't able to play anymore.

Not my turn in the order, but I had intended to use my oil on my weapon, so I hope that's OK to assume I did. (It's hard for me to post on weekends, so I'm catching up now.)

Secondly, can I do an Invocation just before entering battle? Or does it have to be once battle has already started? I know it's only a Quick Action, but in this case, I have to choose to either use the Quick Action to use Lay on Hands for Raphel, OR do my Invocation. Since I knew I was about to go into a fight with a dragon, I would have done my Invocation just before engaging the foe—if that is allowed.

I will say everyone had no more than 2 rounds of actions they could have taken as you all went back to the stairs, ran down to the first floor, and exited the tower. As for things that last until the end of battle, the game says that anything that lasts until the end of battle used out of battle lasts about 5 minutes, so you could easily use such an ability and have it ready during this fight ahead of time.

Oh, and there really isn't any turn order. I'm not sure if I explained, but while in person games I inforce turn order, for the speed of PbP, players are grouped together. So right now anyone can go, but unless you say you go after a particular person you go in the order you all post. Once everyone has taken a turn, the dragon will go again, and then you all get to go for round 2, and so forth.

To be clear, PCs can go in any order if they are in the same initiative group (which you are all in the same group right now since there is just 1 enemy), and unless details are given I have PCs act in the order I see the posts.
