Adventures of Ander An’Derson

OOC:
Welcome to the story @WhiteDwarf
Heading west, away from the courts and soft life of the city and any who know him or his family, Ander has already learned a few life lessons. The first was that starting clean didn't keep you lube free if the further bed obviously never bothered to bath. The second was that flee charms, while less expensive in the long run, still cost more than a struggling guard for his can afford. And thirdly, haggling even without his family's name and backing can greatly extend the power of the free coins he did have

Having signed in with a caravan escort duty Ander was assigned to be an outrider. They traveled south west through the hills of the Freehold lands several days. Now heading north west across the plains Ander spend long hours in the saddle under the blazing sun. The wagon train has only 2 outriders and Ander can not stand the other whom Ander believes is likely a brigand at least party time. Besides then there are 6 guards that stay closer to the washing, and 12 wagons with a driver and wagoneer each.
Nov 13, 2023 8:02 pm
It is only mid morning, and Ander has an hour still before he can break for lunch, when you spot a didn't to the West. Keeping an eye on it you soon are sure it is heading towards the wagons and should be close enough to intercept in about 15 minutes. The wagons in sight but the ride in would be over 10 minutes unless you ride your borrowed horse hard.

Do you want to intercept and meet what is creating the cloud, just get closer enough to see the cause, go talk with the guards or wagontrain Master, etc . . . ?
Nov 13, 2023 11:31 pm
"What a dilemma."

Oh how our knightly fellow daydreams in dour disdain. The thrill of adventuring, quickly overshadowed by the pain of riding a nasally-nasty nagging nag in the heat. Oh, the plight of a knightly hero!

Spying a dust-kicking image up ahead, Ander rides up to the wagon train Master for caravanning consult! "Wagontrain Master, there is something up ahead. Might you allow me to ride forth and meet it, before it intercepts our bold brigade? Adventure surely awaits me, yes?!"

Ander speaks in a heroic tone, like he’s absolutely serious!

By this time the small dust cloud is visivble from the wagon train and the wagon master glares at you but answers civily, if not politely. Sure knock yourself out. Next time just stay in your position and intercep them if they come in that openly. Now if someone is sneaking in, come in and warn someone before returinign to keep eyes on them.

Wheeling your hourse, who is flagging a bit now after the hard ride in, you kick it into a light trot aiming to intercept the growing cloud. On your way out you pass a couple of the guards that are looking for any possible vantage point of concealment as they ready weapons for action. A few minute later you can tell the cloud is from a group of about 6 riders. You can tell they are not menon horseback, the shape and canter is wrong. As you near you grow in certainty that the mounts are a large dog, even bigger than your horse, and another minute later you can tell the riders and Gnolls. Gnolls are known to be intelligent but like many of the Warborn are feared by many due to their violent tendancies. The gnols are is simple dress and carry long lances with a brace of javelins in a large quiver at their mounts side. Their furn is a dull grey with darker browns and black spots of. They are tall and lean but have large shoulders making you guess they can likely hold their lance point steady easily and throw their javelins far and hard.

Let me know if/how you want to approatch them.

Not content to face all six riders alone, Ander pulls back towards his caravan. He returns to wagon train Master with kind report.

"Half-dozen gnolls, on large dogs. We’ll need to circle the wagons, get defenders out front and prepare for an attack."

Ander gazes emerald eyes around the landscape. Looking for a place to position his knightly mounted self up front. Time for action, knightly fellow!

The wagon master give you a glare then smiles And here I thought I might be out one horse and fool of a rider. Nice to know you have a brain good for counting and reason.
But dont you worry your pretty head little knight. Six gnolls aproaching in plain view are not the problem. We can handle that with the guards and wagoneers. It is a question if they brought friends. Go scout the area away from the gnolls and tell that lazy loute Scython he better pair up with you till this thing is settled.

You head back out at a slow trot, your horse now quite tired, heading out where Scython should be as you scan the area for other gnoll

Roll a standard t3est, 2d5, for your chance to spot anything out there, like Scython or gnolls.

Ander feels all great about himself! "I’m happy to help, wagon train Master! I’ll grab ol’ Scython and we’ll do some settling scouting!"

Our knightly fellow "(coughs)" dust from his nostrils, and pushes his loyal steed just enough to find and hopefully pair up with Scython. Ander keeps his knightly self poised for sign of friend or foe.

"Hang in there, ol’ girl," he says to his loyal steed. Fair-skinned hands pet his horse’s mane. Because a knights touch, it’s ALWAYS inspiring!

Knowing time is not on his side but an exhausted horse is worse than none at all Ander keeps the pace slow. Having ridden the horse several days he is sure of its stamina over long distances. A minute of two will be sufficient for it to recover from the racing that it is unused to. As you move to ride a half circuit looking for Scython you begin to grow concerned. Where could that Tiefling be. Though the plains look flat they do have the odd hill or ravine with a small creek in it, but why would Scython be . . .

As you crest a slight rise you look down to see Scython talking with a gnoll. The two are dismounted, which is how they were able to conceal themselves. A short way from each is their mount, horse and riding hound.
Nov 15, 2023 3:59 pm
Much like the valiant soul he is, actually EXACTLY like that, Ander gallops up to the sneaky duo. Our knightly fellow tries positioning his mounted self between the two men and their mounts, separated g them from their respective rides.

Ander looks down upon them from Loyal Steed. Emerald eyes gaze condescendingly, and he says proudly,

"You two, what’s the meaning of this? Something you want to share with the rest of the class? And by rest of the class, I mean ME!"

Ander keeps one hand on reins of Loyal Steed, the other on pommel of his sword. And he looks at the men in the most knightly-minded manner imaginable!

With the mounts on oposite side of the two on foot Ander choose to isolate Scython. Though the gnoll was likely more dangerous it was also most likely more predictable.

Scython
The tiefling turns at your words, his look of surprise quickly flowing to calm ease. Oh hey . . . Andrew. Yeah i just saw this guy here and moves to intercept him but he seems friendly enough so we gut started chatting. I think his peoplle could help us with , you know getting food and stuff. Scython smiles as he approatches you and your horse casually.

Gnoll
The gnol watches you as it eases back slowly by half steps towards its horse. As it does so the spear flips and the gnoll adjust his grip from a mele stabbing grip to one for throwing the spear.
Nov 18, 2023 12:22 am
Oh, how our knightly fellow watches the duo warily. Emerald eyes gazing beneath raised eyebrow!

"Gnoll…person…drop your spear, and come towards me! And you…SCYTHON, is it? You come back towards me as well, but keep your hands where I can see them! We’re going back to the Wagontrain Master, together. Do as I say, or else…there’ll be trouble!

"Also, it’s ANDER, not ANDREW!"

Can I roll like an Intimidation check, with my Charismatic trait?

Charisma allows you advantage in almost all social situations. So go ahead an use advantage and I will let you know if it is not applicable.
However, in this case I will also give them a Save Test to see if you intimidate them as it may conflict with their self interests or self preservation.
Scython
The tiefling cowers at you command, raising his hands away from his body. Looking from you to then gnoll you can tell he is too afraid to act on his own.

Gnoll
The gnoll however grips his spear tighter, in two hands now, backing up faster towards his mounts before turning to run for it and scrambling into its saddle.

Ander hustles his own mount, to intercept the gnoll. Don’t you…oh, geez…! And with that, our knightly fellow attempts to spur his horse just a BIT MORE, in order to block the gnoll from his own steed, or at least to get himself close enough to maybe push the gnoll to the ground!

I shoulda asked the KING, Ander thinks to knightly self. His mind harkening to the chess piece tucked tightly in his right-sided saddlebag. The King…always a source of royal advice!

Anyway, so our knightly fellow tries to bother the gnoll just enough to keep him on the ground, off his mount. As emerald eyes give spiteful glare at the tie fling Scython. Traitor, he says under knightly breath!

The gnoll gets up just in time to have his vicious looking warhound rammed by Anders sturdy mount. You can tell from the mounts reaction it is not well trained for combat as it shies away from the large canine mount as it snaps at the horse, but since you successfully dismounted the gnoll you will take the win.
OOC:
Just some reminders
[ +- ] Combat
The gnoll it moving for 1 action to get on his feet and ready his weapon, it uses its second action to attack
Gnoll
Scython takes advantage of your distraction and races for his horse now as the gnoll picks himself up from the ground gripping his spear and snarling. The gnoll mount has been driven off leaving the angered barbarian gnashing his teeth in frustrations You shall pay for that foolish human boy and the spear flashes at you.

focus and attack = 2 actions!
Your blase slices into the gnoll who yips and hops back. The gnoll retaliates with two quick strikes. The first slashes your thigh but you flick the spear tip aside as the gnoll tries to hit again.

Meanwhile Scython manages to grab up his horses reigns and climb into the saddle. He hesitates a moment before spurring his mount and you hear the beast approaching from your rear and spare him a quick glance to see him draw his sword.

Undeterred by a point of damage done dealt, our knightly fellow returns favor to gnollish assailant!

Ander then tries turning and moving his steed in order to keep both foes in front of him as much as possible.

The gnoll is able to deflect Anders attack then both he and Scython move in to attack
OOC:
Point of clarification. Move action is for changing location not position. So you have to use a Move Action to close in on a ranged attacker but do not need to use a move action to move around a room or any kind of positioning within 10 to 15 feet
I will treat your second action as an Evade so you have a chance to see how it works.

So since one of the attacks was a success you now can roll with disadvantage, 1d6, to evade that attack. If you succeed, 5 or 6, then you take no damage
Evade action lets you roll against any/all successful attacks so is a good thing when being attacked by larger numbers.

Ander tries to deflect the strike from Scython but is not able to do so and the blade pierces his side. (1 damage)
OOC:
Evade Until you act again, on your next round, Test at disadvantage, roll 1d6, any time you are hit to avoid damage

Your first d6 roll was a 4 so you did not evade the strike are were hit.

You are facing 2 opponents, one mounted the other not. The wagons are a bit over a minutes ride from your current position and thus unlikely to hear your fight.
It is your turn now.
