RoAries, why must you give me a temptation of indulging my shipping tendencies instead of doing productive things! Evil, pure evil. :VOOC:
I'd like to do a risky job for the first week, and (if no big upsets happen in-between) go date Connor for the second one. Not sure what to do after yet. :DJan 20, 2024 2:36 pm
Matsuki had enough of brooding over her experiences but admittedly was a bit fed up with the cult.
Got any jobs on the radar? Maybe you need someone to cover your back? I'm a bit fed up with seeing people consumed by mold. A little thrill is something I need she murmurs to Wolf when she left the office.

OOC:
Matsuki will do a risky job too. If it's okay with the GM and @FlyingSucculent she'll join Wolf in his risky endeavours. Otherwise she'll find something else to do ;) Jan 23, 2024 11:16 am
Declan and the rest of the group finds the Cafeteria after the meeting ends. After the meal and checking out with a work manager, he is placed at the ship docks, which is a more like a large hanger that allows ships to land and be maintained.
Corvin makes some friends with the guards of the colony complex. His new friends, however, think he is not authorised enough to peek into the records. They do at least say that no cult activity have been found recently. As for gun training, his new friend, Officer Maurice, offered to teach him at the small but sufficient firing range within the Security offices. Since ammunition is limited, Corvin also have limited tries.
Abdullah finds a possible work as an entertainer/comedian for the local bar. It might be humiliating, but it helps to show off your improve skill. Another option is to be a janitor. You won't need experience to do this well, and you get to learn how the common folk life is like.
OOC:
You can work and investigate, but that will make your "salary roll" be rolled twice, keep lowest, and failing the save will have extra consequence. RoAries, why must you give me a temptation of indulging my shipping tendencies instead of doing productive things! Evil, pure evil. :VNot only that, but Matsuki have decided to join him too. It may seem a bit of a surprise to Wolf, but a welcome one. With a trusted friend guiding her, the work is less daunting.
OOC:
Wolf gains 700 Credits. Matsuki gains 800 Credits. I now realise how the scale of reward is not balanced as I thought. But in any case, doing the main storyline I have in mind is like unofficial volunteer work to determine the scale of the threat. But now threat is better known, I'll make rewards go higher...
Rolls
Wolf Salary roll - (1d8+1d6)
(7) + (2) = 9
Matsuki Salary roll - (1d8+1d6)
(8) + (3) = 11

Wolf is beyond amused at Matsuki's newfound fame as a master electrician, and is happy to joke with her about it and use the chance to tell her mechanical things his beloved gauntlets and other peculiar gadgets he has seen in his days as a mercenary. When the job brings them by the docks, he also stops by for a bit to chat with Declan - still not entirely sure about where he remembers the man from, yet curious about whether half-recalled positive impression holds up. He notices Corvin around once, but doesn't approach since the reporter seems busy with his investigation.

Declan did his first week of work well. Unfortunately, he wasn't aware of the politics going on within the working force. As he asked around for the latest rumours of cultists, he is given silence. He didn't think of it much, until it comes to his time to collect his pay. Just before the work day is over, a trio of tattooed tough guys came over to meet him.
"You must be the new kid, Declan Smith."
A big man in work clothes with a scar on his cheek growls.
"I heard that you think going around asking about cults is a good idea. Wrong move, buddy. We now have to teach you about what we think of the nightmare-loving nutjobs trying to act like they know the truth while messing with our brotherhood."The three of them proceed to beat Declan with their blunt tools at hand. Declan didn't stand a chance, but thankfully someone alerted a nearby security officer and the thugs flee the scene. Soon, Declan is patched up by his hero while the guards make their arrest.
"That should stop the bleeding, but some time off should do you good before you return to work. The name is Pedro, by the way. About what happened, I think you have made some folks here pretty mad. Over here, several of the working men and women have formed gangs and cliches so as to protect each other since individually we are the most vulnerable.
As for your attackers, they are known as the Steel-bond Brothers. One of their members had recently joined a cult, one that calls themselves the Visage Conversation Club. Before we know them as a cult, we already felt their interests in nightmares and strange geological formations to be too excessive. Turns out, upon being accepted into the Club, your personality will change, as you won't stop talking about how enlightening the Club is. This was treated as an act of betrayal and the Steel-Bond Brothers made it a rule that noone is to speak of the club-cult ever again."
Corvin did some bad shots, and he felt that his colony colleagues would look down on him, but turns out he is given a pat on the back.
"Not bad for a first timer. I'm sure you can improve more if you had practice, but so far, if you ever find yourself in danger and with a gun in hand, you should be able to defend yourself. At least, if they are close enough." Maurice says.
The others are indeed impressed by Corvin's athletism, and comments that he is perhaps better off using his boxing skills than using a firearm as self defence.
You managed to gain connections and favour with the local security personel, and you have learnt enough to use a gun. The next thing you could do is to use your favour to get a gun. You can easily buy a small handgun from the weapons storage, but better guns would cost more, even the favour.
Abdullah worked at a job. It earned him 100 Credits, due to having caused some trouble, but nothing that have made his employer mad at him.

7 damage, 2 hp removed, then Str goes from 8 to 3. Failure will just mean you are injured and dying. "That should stop the bleeding, but some time off should do you good before you return to work. OOC:
The result is that you now gain 400 Credits, and some knowledge that gangs exist here and are against the cult. You also suffered injuries, and may choose to either ignore it at risk of having 3 Str left, or take a week to half rest and half work to heal this condition.Corvin did some bad shots, and he felt that his colony colleagues would look down on him, but turns out he is given a pat on the back.

"Thanks Pedro. Steel-bond brothers huh?", Declan winces as something shifts in his chest that definitely shouldn't.
"Can you point me towards the nearest clinic?, he says to Pedro.
Does this system have scars? I don't have the book handy at the moment. If it does, is it exactly 0 hp in this system or anything over 0 hp?

OOC:
This system have scars. You actually gain it upon having a damage source making hp reach exactly 0. Going pass it will damage Str, which has its risks, but you won't gain a scar. Also, now everyone have done their thing this in-game week, I'll roll for event probability...
Result is nothing happened yet and you continue on your week as "normal".
I also want to make a change to the salary roll. I feel its range of results is too much. If it is for something like mining specific resources that would be appropriate. And so, I'll make it as such:
Local job with no risk: 1d3+2 x 100 Credits.
Local job with a little risk: 1d4+3 x 100 Credits.
As he return to work what he can, he noticed how his fellow dock workers became anxious with him around. He then learns that remaining members of the Steel-Bond Brothers have viewed him as an enemy, and that co-workers who are in the know keep their distance due to that.

Never one to give up, even if he lacked a natural inclination for the sport - Corvin and Maurice spent time in the "proving grounds." Maurice needed to brush up on her close quarters battle training, and Corvin used the time to train with her. Fast friends they both learned a great deal. After a few days of training, Corvin asked Maurice for a favor, he wanted to be able to open carry, explaining that his job was to investigate the terrorist actors on the station and knew it to be a particularly hazardous assignment.
He told her about his dream in every detail while they would take breaks from training. At the same time he taught her the basics of Glima, clever wrestling. And taking what worked between their size difference they began to develop a hand-to-weapons combat system. As both enjoyed the challenge it deepened their bond.
When the paperwork for his firearm came through...

The opportunity to work a broom and see what life was truly like for all classes of people here was too good for Abi to pass up. Picking up smelly trash was no problem for him so long as he was able to listen and observe everything going on around him. He positively jumped at the opportunity.

Declan returns to work at the end of the week. His face is still bruised, but he is otherwise ok, other than damage to his pride.
He coworkers give him the cold shoulder as they work and for now that suits Declan just fine. "Who knows who is Steel-Bond and who is not?, he thinks.

Wolf went on to spend more time with his date. From this, what may had been an attempt to distract a staff had blossomed into a mutual romantic relationship. It is uncommon for romantic relations to form locally in the base, both because it is subtly discouraged and that distrust seems to be the culture here. In any case, walks around the indoor park and occasional visits to the bar room counts as good dates.
(The Bar Room is a fairly small establishment that a local drink mixer decides to open instead of a common stall in the park hub. The hardworking staff hang out there, often being a meeting place of the worker gangs. Violence is discouraged, even towards the occasionally bad stage performer, but sometimes anger flare up and security is called in.)
Let me know if there is any info you want from Connor. So far, he shared that his background is nothing too special, but is lucky to be chosen to work on Mersk for the experience and the potential future of living here properly. However, the local culture admittedly sucks, and he is glad to have met Wolf to be away from the pressure that was in the air.

On week two Matsuki decides to do a little investigation on her own. Firstly she tries to acquire some listening devices with the money she earned
Then she'll snoop around in the area where the cult operated, and where she took out the leader looking for any clues.
If she is able to identify a possible meeting area she'll install a listening device, of she was able to acquire one. Else she'll surveil the area on her own...
