Intermission 1: The Darkness steps back
Be sure to read and follow the guidelines for our forums.
As the end of a week comes, Samantha have called Wolf, Matsuki, Grant and Hui Zhili for a meeting at her office in a few days time. The matter is not explained yet, but she lets you guys know a few new people may join in her private team she is forming.
Also, I'd like to be wearing my armour already, so I don't need to equip it later; if possible?
He greets the people he knows and listens to polite small talk, humming when appropriate but mostly staying silent. To anyone unfamiliar, he probably would make a slightly threatening impression of a dozing off big cat, relaxed for now but ready to fight if disturbed. His dark coat with synthetic fur at the collar and a pair of custom gauntlets with long claws probably only add to the image, and Wolf's newly upgraded glasses occasionally blink red instead of green, thermal scanner checking the room at equal intervals.
Yesterday she stocked up on some gear and only then she realized how much the security level has been heightened. She recognizes the necessity for this but it made her uneasy and reminded her of prison.
Samantha's call was a welcome distraction and so she arrived 15 minutes early. She greeted everyone, sat up straight in a chair beside Wolf and is ready to listen to what the officer has to say
Also, is future repair cost calculated with all the mods? (So since the total cost of gauntlets is now 320, repair is now 80 per point?) Can I repair them right now?
@Kaneda_Shepard @GeneralET @Aegis Do post something here too so that I know that you're still with us.
Edit: yay!

He’s been pain free for about a day so far. And with that relief had come renewed ambition.
"I assume that you notice the damages to my office room. Those cultists found an opportunity to attack me during a low security and traffic period. Not only did they knocked me out and stuff me in a bag, they also tried to look for something. From what security have found at their little club room, they also stole the skull in the bucket you guys found. That skull is now safely in custody. Where exactly, that is confidential even to you.
As for now, we are still waiting a while more. You may have heard of rumours of a certain VIP coming to us. That would be true, however, I am also told that they are to be treated as an equal despite their VIP status. You would be skilled enough to act like bodyguards for him, but hopefully it won't have to be like that. Also, I believe they would be on their way here very soon."
She takes a breath and stares at the cupboards for a moment, thinking about the mission.
Well I think you'll have thought about who to task with this so we need additional details. Who is it? Where do they plan to go? How long will they stay? We need to know things like that in order to be effective
As for the issue of being bodyguards, you won't have to see it as exactly that. When you work together that relationship can naturally happen. I can officialise this team as the bodyguards and videographers of this adventurous actor, and allow you all to work for a non-standard job as needed here."
Outside, muffled footsteps can be heard approaching to the office room, and a knock is heard.
"Hello? This is Theo from Admin. I brought the new guys as you requested."
"Okay, let them in."
"Sure I will, but there is this annoying dude that Mr Muller sent to follow us. Mr Muller was the one who met with our newcomers, and so that's why I had some delays to bring them in."
The voice replied.
Samantha looks shocked then agitated.
"Jurgen Muller... what the hell are you trying to do? Fine! Theodore, please entertain Jurgen's man while we have our meeting. Please keep him from listening in."
He managed to keep the tablet steady and immediately began to work on editing the shot creating a fully holographic layer. Something that could not just be seen, but true posterity in a shot. The audience would be able to not just see, but touch, and even smell the recording. He pulled a battery from the harness on the hip of his flight suit. Prepared to hot swap the battery in his tablet. "Had any special dreams lately? I'd love to hear about them."
This man has a youthful face with an easy smile. He could easily pass for 30 if it wasn't for the grey streaks in his flowing mane.
Putting his hands in his pockets, he purses his full lips and whistles. "Nice office, I'm Declan.", says Declan.
Of course Abi's manager had quickly made it clear that the film studio wasn't paying to have him sent all the way here just to be an unknown nobody. They wanted good PR and a return in their investment. Too late to worry about it now, anyway, he thought to himself as he refocused his attention to where they had stopped, in front of the door to a large office. As it opened, he relaxed his face and put on a smile.
Howdy folks! I guess by now you've heard who I am. Thanks for welcoming me!
Wolf narrows his eyes at the new arrivals, warily following Corvin's movements for a moment before sweeping over to watch Abdullah and Declan. Perhaps surprisingly, he only spares a second of attention to the actor - either unfamiliar with his work, failing to recognize him or simply not caring for celebrity worship - and instead lingers on Declan. An expression of vague recognition quickly passes over his face and he seems to be considering whether to voice it when the journalist's question distracts him.
"If you're having dreams about ascension, then you better check how *you* are feeling." Wolf snorts with dry amusement, then adds: "And I'm not even joking, on this station strange dreams usually mean that you'll start spitting black mold sooner or later. Willingly or unwillingly." He sighs, then raises his hand and wiggles his claws at the trio. "I'm Wolf. Or Volk. Or Nikolai. Call me whatever. Apparently one of your designated bodyguards for this vacation - and just a warning, I'm not going to apologize about swearing on camera."
Matsuki Magumi. I'll be your rearguard.
"Maybe we ran into each other at a bar or club?"
"Devour to survive, Wolf. So it is, so it has always been. Though, you seem to have strong feelings against ascenscion, lets meet later and discuss."
Turning the camera to Matsuki he waved to catch her attention. "Rearguard you say? Could you clarify for the viewer what you mean by that?" No stranger to hostilities Corvin asked confidently and clearly. "Only those familiar with my work would have an inkling to the implication." He explained his inquiry.
Abi did his best to put on a smile, but he was clearly irritated and off-put by the conversation. His lip twitched almost imperceptibly and his eyes flitted from one person to the next, looking for reassurance.
"Mr Abdullah Al-Jabir, is it? I heard a lot about you. You are a paradox here. One of high importance, yet, is to only receive the basic privileges of the common worker. Do forgive me for the diversion from our usual welcome, one that my senior is competing to take from me.
"
She then extends her hand to shake the three new arrivals.
"My name is Samantha O'Reilly. I am the Assistant Officer of Communications. Responsible for checking that messages and reports between here and back home are arranged properly. As for why you are now seeing me, it's because I have gained the privilege of speaking privately with you all after my successful solving of an untreated problem. I want to form a team, one that is ready to go out to confront problems that would be preferable to be handled discreetly. With my signature, I can officially form a casual team of bodyguards for the VIP, where you get to work together without suspicion from any third parties."
She then looks to Corvin with a stern look.
"As Wolf here have shown suspicion, we have faced a problem in regards to a secret organisation that is best described as a bio-terrorist cult. They call themselves the Visage Conversation Club, and are responsible for the spreading of insurgent ideals and biohazardous materials we call Black Mold. Apparently, disturbing dreams were also suspected to be a plague here. I don't normally care to listen to people's dreams, but if yours are vividly strange, it could be a sign of this plague affecting you."

Declan's prosaic and artful dismantling of the counter point brought a slight flush to Corvin's cheeks. As handsome and economic with words as Declan was, roused some jealousy that had long been buried. But with the jealousy, came inspiration. Swallowing pride, Corvin set the focus on Declan, and nodded emphatically with his point. They had only been in the station for minutes - minutes exposed in the transport ship - days in the sterile gasses of suspended animation. "Nah, we aren't infected. If this thing is virulent enough to best my immune system, we are already dead."
"Yeesh, *that* is a codename." Corvin chuckled sardonically. "You obviously want me to liase with the Opposing Force." There was an emphasized distinction in how he said OpFor, abnegating the word terrorist. "My integrity and legal protection is based on impartiality. This documentation only has value based on my unimpeachable character. I cannot, and more importantly will not spin doctor, or otherwise muckrake. The Worlds deserve to know both sides of this truth, and I will give them it straight up." This exposition was clearly meant for everyone but Samantha. Corvin made clear but gentle eye contact with everyone. "As far as my dreams, they are quite pleasant, warm, familiar, welcoming, and enriching if not a bit esoteric. Hardly your "plague." Fear of any sort is lending material aid to The VCC, if they are terrorists as you claim. Terrorists win when you are conquered by fear. Fear exists to be conqured." He looked about again, grinning quite pleased with himself. "What are you afraid of at any rate?"
Have you ever seen a colleague or a friend vomit black goo. Turning to you, their eyes turning blank. Attacking you from one moment to the other like being controlled by some foreign force? And with their last shred of free will begging you to free them?
Believe me. Sometimes there are not two equal sides, but one that tries to erase the other. And the moment we forget that, there will be dead people. Even you can fall victim to this disease, regardless of how strong your immune system is...
"Probably because he's always working.", thinks Declan.
He turns back to their new companions, "Hey look, if you need us to test for goo. I'll test for goo. No questions. We just haven't been here all that long. If one of us is infected, that is one nasty disease."
"As long as you don't feel a sudden desire to start worshipping a talking skull or stab something pointy in our backs, I don't care if you're infected." He shrugs, waving his hand at the door to the office in an abstract gesture. "Everyone here might be infected as far as we know - it's hardly a conventional disease, and I doubt it's easy to diagnose. Aside from the mold, it's mostly contained in one's mind anyway. What I do want to know, however," Wolf pointedly looks at Samantha, "is what exactly are we expected to do about it."
As his body language indicated Samantha, he slowly panned to her. As Wolf asked pointedly, he changed the filter to "warm." The light scatter was enhanced and filtered orange. The redness of the room, as he tuned the filter became as deep as blood. Bathing Samantha in a most sinister light, considering the nature of their task.
He considered further the emotions that had flared, the subject of dreaming, the gravity of the name of the bioweapon. In the pause, he keyed an underlayed background track, black noise. Knowing the human brain was keyed to focus on its almost imperceptible droning, which in turn kept a mind engaged in a hyper analytic mode.
"You're right that this plague isn't conventional. If you're affected by symptoms so early and distant from your arrival, it proves that what we are dealing with is, I'm afraid to say, potentially supernatural. Since I have brought us all deep in this shit together, I might as well not beat around the bush.
What we are really dealing with is an alien threat that have so far negatively impacted our people working here. Forget whatever media you have recently watched or read about, none of the depictions you have seen is relevant here. This alien threat is ancient and complicated, one that overpowered our ancestors a thousand years ago, and looks about ready to do so again as we returned back to the worlds we once occupied. We know near nothing of our greater history, but we have seen ghosts of our past presence mining this planet called Mersk. If these aliens can erase buildings from existence, who can know what more they can do, or their grander plan?
And so, to avoid more panic than there already is, I have to work with carefully navigating my words here. My bosses know something is wrong, but are afraid of acting more. I have already poked the bees nest by sending teams out to the bizarre location we call The Face. Perhaps that is how the moldy skull appear in the hands of that janitor, turning him into the leader of a cult. However, while my first team might have caused the cult to start, my second team was able to bring back some important information.
The video recordings of that journey taken by that rockstar is now studied by a local worker as per my request. It have tested her sanity, causing her to produce a list of theories I will not trouble you with knowing. But the concrete truth is that The Face is actually a scientific research facility of our forefathers. Somehow, the aliens behind the Black Mold managed to mimic human faces and thoughs. It is definitely not perfect, but shows that they able to understand and manipulate not only deceased bodies, but the minds of the still living. Maybe the aliens are the Black Mold itself possessing intelligence, instead of being a weapon of theirs.
Now that you are all up to date on what I know, I trust that you can keep this a secret. Not only do we want to avoid panic, but the followers of the aliens can still be around to jeopardise my efforts.
I know that you must be thinking why am I doing all of this. While I do get to improve my standing and trust within the United Advancement by stopping threats against our productivity, I am more concern about looming disaster this spells for us. We are accelerating our development and expansion like a charging spear, but we have made ourselves too complacent in this, and we have become too naked in our reach into the stars..."
"You've sent someone to The Face again?" Wolf sounds openly skeptical. "I sure hope you equipped them with something packing a punch, because the last two times someone went here ended up in bodies each time. Walking bodies." He sighs. "And now you think that the mold is sentient. At this point you should just declare quarantine and hunt down the cult before we lose the number advantage."
His starts to tap his figure, a habit from his gambling days, thankfully his hands were fully back in his pockets.
"So you want us to what? Stop the ooze? Why not? I'm in."
"I pursue anthropology as a hobby. Have you heard of the Stoned Ape Theory of Consciousness? Seems highly and especially relevant to consider in this case. It is a well observed theory, that back when we were bound to Earth-what-was Homosapiens Sapience evolved from an earlier hominid consuming the fruiting body of a Psilocybin and Amanita spore. Magic Mushrooms, now I can't help but see a parallel here."
Knowing the power of visual on higher primates, such as humans, Corvin quickly searched for interpretive art of the theory and cast it to a nearby screen.

"There is a lot to be drawn from the psychedelic experience. Most of it allegory to the heroe's journey, other concepts such as ascenscion, the chosen one, and other religious or philosophical enlightenments. You can see the sum of human history in this image. We as higher primates, are only higher, because we got high on drugs for the majority of our evolution. My own culture has an ancient text, preindustrial human, called the Havamal "The Utterances of the Most High" and they meant high on mushrooms. The content of which deals primarily with the invention of law and how it as our fundamental technology spurred all future advances. You can see both fungi represented in this picture, sacred geometries, religious icons, and our technologies that lead us up til now. What may be interpreted as the sinister designs of a death cult trying to kill everyone, might just as well and easily be the birthing pains of a new "higher primate.""
As for the teams I sent, the four of you were the second team. R.I.P. to our veterinarian. The first team was our local staff. Two of which turned into zombies, one into some kind of cocoon, and the last one somehow having his skull teleported into our base.
As for Corvin's attempt at empathising with our cultists, I am afraid I have to discourage such efforts. You can make use of this in interacting with them, but to suggest to us that they have a point in pushing human evolution through fungal psychedelics? I would laugh, if I still had the humour in me to do so. No, I don't think we humans need any additional ascension, especially with the help of unknown forces that creates quote unquote zombies. We have yet to closely study them, but if what we know of zombies are to be true, they will spell doom to our civilisation.
I shan't argue on this matter any further. Maybe you're right in rationalising what these cultists believe, but I'll let you know here first that whatever they are doing will be against the work of this station.
As for now, you all get to treat this as some crazy story until I call on you again. You can choose to investigate this matter, or find work on this station. So far, the nothing new have came up yet for me to point you all to.
You are free to leave now, unless you still had questions."
She then goes to Matsuki.
"I almost forgot to mention, but you all are free men now after accomplishing your mission to satisfy my request. Matsuki Magumi, you are now allowed to return to Darst without fear of being sent to prison. However, our government may still keep an eye on you."
As mentioned, you will now be doing "down time". Time will move in blocks of a week.
You can find a job to do. The pay starts at 1d6 x 100 credits per week if the work is safe. If the job have some risks, it will be 1d8 x 100 credits per week. Risk can be injuries, or it can even cause complications like upseting a local faction or cause damages that require you to pay. I will roll 1d6 per week if so. On 1, you will suffer something.
You can choose to investigate the matter of the Cult, and find where the surviving members are hiding and their potential plans(or investigate something else as you wish). You have to describe how you are doing it. I'll then decide what saving roll this requires and the meaning for it. You then roll it to confirm your action.
You can choose to spend your time doing anything else, such as dating/befriending a local or receive training. Further discussion on this may be needed.
Lastly, I will do a "random encounter" each week. I'll roll a d6 for probability, and on a 6, I'll roll another d6 to determine result. The results will involve Samantha contacting on you all to gather for a secret meeting again.
After eating, he goes to the docks and sees if he can pick up work hauling in spaceships, unloading and loading cargo, normal Space Docker stuff.
He spends the week working, and getting to know his fellow Dockers.
During this time, he asks his fellow workers if they've heard any rumors about the cult or the Face.
Got any jobs on the radar? Maybe you need someone to cover your back? I'm a bit fed up with seeing people consumed by mold. A little thrill is something I need she murmurs to Wolf when she left the office.
Corvin makes some friends with the guards of the colony complex. His new friends, however, think he is not authorised enough to peek into the records. They do at least say that no cult activity have been found recently. As for gun training, his new friend, Officer Maurice, offered to teach him at the small but sufficient firing range within the Security offices. Since ammunition is limited, Corvin also have limited tries.
Abdullah finds a possible work as an entertainer/comedian for the local bar. It might be humiliating, but it helps to show off your improve skill. Another option is to be a janitor. You won't need experience to do this well, and you get to learn how the common folk life is like.

"You must be the new kid, Declan Smith."
A big man in work clothes with a scar on his cheek growls.
"I heard that you think going around asking about cults is a good idea. Wrong move, buddy. We now have to teach you about what we think of the nightmare-loving nutjobs trying to act like they know the truth while messing with our brotherhood."
"That should stop the bleeding, but some time off should do you good before you return to work. The name is Pedro, by the way. About what happened, I think you have made some folks here pretty mad. Over here, several of the working men and women have formed gangs and cliches so as to protect each other since individually we are the most vulnerable.
As for your attackers, they are known as the Steel-bond Brothers. One of their members had recently joined a cult, one that calls themselves the Visage Conversation Club. Before we know them as a cult, we already felt their interests in nightmares and strange geological formations to be too excessive. Turns out, upon being accepted into the Club, your personality will change, as you won't stop talking about how enlightening the Club is. This was treated as an act of betrayal and the Steel-Bond Brothers made it a rule that noone is to speak of the club-cult ever again."
Corvin did some bad shots, and he felt that his colony colleagues would look down on him, but turns out he is given a pat on the back.
"Not bad for a first timer. I'm sure you can improve more if you had practice, but so far, if you ever find yourself in danger and with a gun in hand, you should be able to defend yourself. At least, if they are close enough." Maurice says.
The others are indeed impressed by Corvin's athletism, and comments that he is perhaps better off using his boxing skills than using a firearm as self defence.
You managed to gain connections and favour with the local security personel, and you have learnt enough to use a gun. The next thing you could do is to use your favour to get a gun. You can easily buy a small handgun from the weapons storage, but better guns would cost more, even the favour.

(The Bar Room is a fairly small establishment that a local drink mixer decides to open instead of a common stall in the park hub. The hardworking staff hang out there, often being a meeting place of the worker gangs. Violence is discouraged, even towards the occasionally bad stage performer, but sometimes anger flare up and security is called in.)
Let me know if there is any info you want from Connor. So far, he shared that his background is nothing too special, but is lucky to be chosen to work on Mersk for the experience and the potential future of living here properly. However, the local culture admittedly sucks, and he is glad to have met Wolf to be away from the pressure that was in the air.
Then she'll snoop around in the area where the cult operated, and where she took out the leader looking for any clues.
If she is able to identify a possible meeting area she'll install a listening device, of she was able to acquire one. Else she'll surveil the area on her own...
At the end of the week, Corvin did finally receive his license to open carry, his role as an honourary security officer(locally official job), and a handgun with a few spare clips.
Abdullah went about the place as a common cleaner. Either this is a pretty good disguise or not many people here know about films, but not once was he questioned if he was an actor. He might feel some people may suspect him, but nothing is brought up. With this, he got to work with a basic routine of clearing trash and cleaning the bathrooms. This experience made him realise that there are so many bins, toilets and changing rooms in this colony.
And also, he picked up a rumour during break time from amongst the janitors: an infamous long-time janitor, Petrov, had been outed as the leader of the terrorist-cult. The reactions seems to be that this is not too surprising, but is still sad. It was said he was roughly 50 years old, and got news that his wife died and became depressed as he can't leave to see her funeral. At first, he was a vocal advocate of worker's rights, but then his topics turn to something uncomfortably spiritual and philosophising on alien life. The news of him being the mastermind of a bio-terrorist plot is too extreme to swallow, but since he never came back to work it is reasonable that way. Also, his skin getting wrinkled too fast and his voice being damaged as if he became 90 years old over a few months is odd, but was reasoned as being from some chemical accident.
(Gained 500 Credits)
Also, I'll do it as the safe job roll, but since its half week, its at "disadvantage".
Edit!: You will be halved instead of disadvantage. So it becomes(500 ÷ 2) -200, so 50 Credits gained.
Matsuki looks to buy some listening devices. Such things aren't easy to come by on the colony base. However, through a little cunning, she got hints on a possible local black market from the electronics store owner. Finding such a thing would be a challenge on its own. (Roll Wil save.)

Corvin now takes advantage of his opportunity to work for security by going around asking for the worker's union. However, there isn't an official union, and what passes for it is fought over by different groups of varying temperaments. He learns that Management have constantly rejected such official organisation to form, but allow some capacity of it to exist.
The HR Officers: They told him they know nothing of the ritual circle. However, due to the background of some of the workers, it is not too surprising if they happen to be radical cult members. They aren't allowed to tell him more than this.
The Patent Protectors: This is a small collective of local researchers and scientists who had been advocating that any little discovery or development that is attributed to a scientist, gives that scientist the full right to decide how to make use of it without the United Advancement's meddling. The members reveal that they believe the mold is alien in nature, however, it is too early to determine how dangerous it is as no obvious outbreak of infection has happened yet.
As for the "mold" circle, it is a false speculation, as the material of the discovered ritual circle have been determined to be drawn with paint. However they can't get the information of the original ritual design from Security, as they are told it is a "hazard to public safety". They offer you another lead to investigate. There is a Dr Wu Kehui that is the inventor of the filtration system that can easily clean the dirty air of Mersk for safe inhalation throughout the colony. He is a member of the Patent Protectors, but is a very distrustful man, even to his fellow colleagues that he views as spying rivals.
The Blue Collar Guild: A possible gang that consist of members of various departments such as construction and maintenance. They call themselves a guild, but they were never officially recognised as one. After the official discovery of the Cult, the Blue Collar and similar clubs have been strictly banned from organising meetings in any capacity. The few members Corvin manage to catch says they won't readily share information of any of their colleagues to you, even if you're a member of Security.
For the ritual circle, they admit they have no idea about it, but they won't answer why some workers are able to form this secret hideout in the first place.
The Steel-Bond Brotherhood: These guys are similar to the Blue Collar Guild, but are second in place to being the leading union for the common workers. Instead of promoting peaceful talks and words of platitude, they argue that fierce loyalty and sacrifices are needed to change things. However, due to increased security and a recent fight, all known members are imprisoned in the local jails until its determined they are ready to return to work peacefully. Interviewing them only earns Corvin swear words and mutterings of "Steel-Weld Oath" like a prayer.
Lesser unions and gangs: They exist, but either Corvin do not have their names or their members are even harder to find.

Declan waits for an answer from his foreman, who looks at him up and down in thought.
"I have something in mind that you could do. Mind you, it is a very unofficial part of your job. Very unofficial."
He repeats slowly for Declan to get the hint.
"If you can help with this simple job of collecting some medication from a certain someone at a certain place, I could add a little extra to your next paycheck. You will need to carry it on your person until you are specifically told to hand it out. If you can do this, you'll be doing a service too for your fellow co-workers."

Abi made a mental note to tell Corvin all about it the next time they saw one another. Perhaps it wasn’t exactly headline material given they had all been asked to keep hushed about the whole thing, but Abi had a feeling it would be good documentary fodder for when they all returned home. Certainly his own budding aspirations to turn this bizarre story into a blockbuster hit someday were undiminished. For that he would really need to get to the heart of the story. Who was this janitor at heart? What were his followers life? Has anyone who currently wielded a broom known them personally?
Abi reflected the only way to find these answers was to continue his work as a janitor. He would try to make friends with his fellow custodians and learn all he could, not only about the cult and its former leader, but perhaps about hidden ways to move around the station without being seen.
After Abi's interview concluded Corvin caught him up on his insertion into law enforcement. His pistol training, combatives course, and his honorary acceptance into law enforcement. His tone became much more excited when he spoke of his investigative journalism into the "Unions" of Laborers.
"He's the guy who engineered the air filtration system. I arranged a meet with him. Normally I would just play it by ear, but I plan on insinuating myself in the Patent Protectors, can't think of a better wingman."
Corvin had shared all the details of his investigation so far with Abi. He consumed water, and a double patty burger as they had caught up. "Soon as you are ready we can leave to meet him."
Sounds like a plan! I’m ready!
There is this supplier who goes by the nickname of Nurse. She will be will be at this specific toilet near the labs, at a specific hour.
As Declan goes there, he doesn't see anyone at first from it. He wonders if he could check the female toilet as he is meeting a woman, but likely got smarter that he could be caught as a pervert. Inside the male bathroom, wet-floor signs are placed about the place, and presence of recent mopping can be seen. Scrubbing noises came from a cubicle stall, and out comes a short lady with muscles and a scar on her face. She squints at Declan's face before speaking.
"I ain't seen you before. New one, huh? If you're collecting, then here you go."
She pulls out a small lunchbox from a corner hidden from Declan's view, and gives it to him.
"Could've chat more, but I'm busy. You best head out now and act natural."
As he gets back, no one approaches Declan. This appears to be a good and bad thing, as even when he asks his Foreman again, he says to still carry it. When he gets paid, it doesn't seem like anything much higher than normal, but atleast he doesn't have trouble for now.
Do Declan plan to hide it somewhere? And/or open it up to look inside?

Even the shelves and locker cabinets have been removed. Checking the other room that had the sleeping drunk cult member, she sees that the filter machine is still there, but nothing stands out as signs of cult. Perhaps, the close investigation of the security team has thoroughly searched and cleaned the site and the cult is too afraid to return. Not even the blood from the violence, or the mold coming from the zombification of the cult leader can be found.

She was seen carrying a black marker in her polo shirt pocket, before using it to write something out of view on an empty beer can, before sticking it under a crate.
2) One is a burly man with tattoos of a skull with crossed lightning behind it on his back. The words "Never back down!" is written in a lightning-ish font next to it. He was also seen with a knuckle duster sticking out a bit from his jean back pocket.
3) One is a scrawny bearded man with eyes covered with eye bags, or possibly heavy eyeliner. He has a tattoo that says: "Remember thy family." written in cursive at his hip. He has with him a worn holy book, one officially distributed by the Maker's Man religious group. However, this book is defaced with the title written over as: "The Sculpting Molding of Man's Spirit."
Abdullah learned about the layout of the base slowly but surely. He knows there are secret routes, that of the maintenance tunnels. It also seems that by being a cleaner of toilets and corridors, he is generally not observed by the rest of the staff. He still does get the sense he is being spied on on one or two occasions, likely by one of the guards sent by the Head Communications Officer to tail him.
Alright, so two of you will try to meet with Dr Wu. He is a very busy man, and unwilling to make an appointment with strangers. However, with endurance and patience, a scheduled date can be formed. This will cost both of you to make of a choice of:
1) Spend the full week to make an appointment. This will require a Will save from one of you, as an attempt to make Dr Wu more friendly with you.
2) Spend half a week to make an appointment. This also requires Will save similar to option 1, both of you need to do roll for this to make Dr friendly faster.
3) Be doing something else while you wait for your appointment to process itself with little effort. However, you both need to roll Dex save to flexibly detach from what you were doing to go to the meeting in time.

There is a fellow called Oddball. He was an engineer sent over from another space station due to conflicts within his original workplace. A rumour is that Samantha the Assistant Communications Officer is the one who requested for his transfer.
There is also a rumour of frequent nightmares in the past that sounds like bad trips, but they can't be verifiable if substances are involved. Such rumours came from the lesser engineers, particularly those from the facility maintainence side.
The existence of acid-like substances are not impossible to exist or be created locally, however, speculating further regarding this is inappropriate for the interview, as LSD is an unauthorised substance and insinuating a fellow chemist to be doing this is simply wrong.
Abdullah had to commit his time to finding the best time to contact this Dr Wu Kehui, while also assuring him that it won't be a waste of his time and that it would be important. Telling him it is a famous movie actor didn't seem to move him much. After a day or two, the scientist eventually relented and set up the date to be at the last day of the week.

Of course, he still keeps an eye out for the cult activity and takes some time to hover menacingly over any gathering he deems suspicious, but he doesn't actively seek them out and instead continues his usual work as before. Perhaps, if nothing else, it will reassure other station workers that some things don't change - no matter mold, cults or aliens. Nikolai even takes on some more unusual jobs, and over the course of next few weeks crawls through numerous maintenance tunnels, ventilation shafts and complicated scaffolding structures.
However, while it is all pleasant and Connor appears to be a genuinely nice person - and one who likes Nikolai, which is not as common as he'd like, - Wolf find himself hesitating to talk about anything related to his own life. He feels a little bad about it, since Connor seems to dislike the distrustful nature of the station's culture and probably would prefer Wolf to be more open, but Nikolai has good reasons to keep his cards close to his chest; neither his roots in the Union nor his mercenary past ever invited anything but trouble, and It'll take more than a week or two for him to mention either. At least Connor doesn't dislike Wolf's enthusiasm about electronics and extensive descriptions of the modifications he's planning to do to his gauntlets, so they're not going to run out of conversation topics for a while.
And, of course, the cult. Keeping information about dangers to himself is not Nikolai's style, and he almost immediately informs Connor about the true nature of the cult and the dangers they've all faced fighting it. He doesn't mention names - aside from Matsuki, since it's not a secret that they've been on an expedition together before, - and doesn't mention Samantha's secret initiative either, but doesn't hide anything about the Face or the aliens or the effects of the mold, administrative secrecy be damned. A warning both for Connor's own safety, and to have another pair of eyes watching Wolf's back.

As for his coworkers, he found that he is receiving more praise than usual from them. Perhaps its because he is taking over duties to work high above the ground. But his colleagues also know how Nikolai isn't fond of cheap compliments, and so a hint of a possible promotion around the corner is offered to him by his superior.

Matsuki follows after the woman who hid the secret message. The written can is inaccessible as a little car, but tracking the woman's movement is easier. Her job appears to be an inspector of sorts. She occasionally notes down stuff on her tablet, and speaks with the workers in a formal and calm manner. She then checks out the room with the filter machine Matsuki went in before, where the sleeping worker/cultist was. As the woman opens up the cover to reveal the slots for filters, it appears that the missing filters from last time is now present. It looked like a CD case with an orange sponge inside, where tubes for unknown fluids pass through the casings.
Any further detail is hard to see from the camera angle, and the woman quickly shuts the cover and reapply the warning tape made by the machine's creator. The lady went on more rounds of regular work in the area, before she heads off to the break room nearby. There, she meets up with 2 other friends of hers.
Suspicious Lady: "Have you read my message?"
Bearded Man: "You left a message? I didn't find it."
SL: "You know how our cache locations can change, please look for it again later."
Bald Lady: "Sigh, I need a drink to deal with all this secrecy. I can't wait for the gang to be back together."
BM: "Yeah. We should have our own meeting spot. I heard that the Mining Site is less busy lately."
SL: "Let's not be stupid, Brandon. We don't need to take that risk yet. We can remain patient."
BL: "Pft. Not like we are doing anything much with our little club."
SL: "You know, you can always leave if you like to shit talk about our efforts this often."
BL: "That's been on my mind. I used to love the energy here, but maybe it's time to find some new friends who still have a fire inside."
They continue to chat and banter until they separate again. By now, the new week is here. Matsuki will have to decide her plan of investigation.
"Standard fare.", he thinks and then pauses.
He takes one more look at the disentigrating cubes and sniffs.
"No one should take these", passes through his mind.
He sniffs again and then hides the drugs.
After they are hidden he heads out to find a bar.
The doctor frowned as he listened. Finally he puts up a hand as a stop sign, and speaks.
"I am not looking for students or anyone who can potentially steal my creation and distribute it to the world. Are you agents of the United Advancement or something? If so, I have already told you folks I don't appreciate your efforts to low ball me. Your boss should know better than anyone that the future of Darst is Mersk, and eventually the Advancement will offer me the true price of my baby. "
He then shuts his eyes for a moment and his expression softens.
"But... I do admit I need help. Especially now regarding that mold issue you speak of. But before I say more, I'll allow you to explain yourself again what do you plan on doing with my child. And also, no recordings please, I don't need anyone to know how to reverse engineer my discovery and rob me of my efforts. I may yet show you two through my work in the coming week."
Edit: One of you can do a Wil Save instead if you aren't confident you can say/type something to convince him to reveal his secrets. Failure will mean he refuses your original request, but will still share something.
Wolf enjoys his time with Connor, and Connor enjoyed Wolf's presence too. It is like he is an actual wolf; strong, clever, and mysterious. It is like having a werewolf guardian in the woods that is this colony station.
Connor may not think of himself as impressive as Nikolai, but he is also as clever as knowing how to handle himself as a lone wolf too. He is humble, honest, and contently open minded; an unassuming light in this colony that holds an invisible shadow over everyone. He doesn't experience the nightmares or hallucinations unlike several of his colleagues, and so he tries to be gentle with them. However, some of them become much more unfriendly living and working with their nightmares, and so Connor leave them space to handle it. With Wolf around, his week became lighter.
As he listens about Wolf's excursion to The Face, Connor do find it concerning, but he knows not what to do about the haunting things his boyfriend found that shares the planet they are on. He have heard passing phrases that followers of the Cult used before that seems to reference a stalking alien life. Things like "The Watchers have seen us from afar" or "We will meet the Angels of the Void". He never took it seriously other than mad ramblings, but knowing that black mold aliens are responsible for messing with local staff have finally put an unpleasant but clear face on the problem. He expressed that he appreciates Wolf in opening up to him about it and that he admires his courage to go through the horrors of The Face.
Eventually, as the day comes to a close, he offers that both of them could share a room together, so they can feel safer when they sleep. (Wink!)

"You are pretty eager. I don't normally talk about this much, but I suppose I can explain it to you.
Before you came here, we had sudden high levels of... how to put it, mental darkness. The management folks have no clue what to do about it, and so they didn't. And so we had a high demand for finding solutions to this mysterious pandemic. That is where I come in. I won't tell you how I got the medicine, but I am the main contact that the desperate will look for. So far I am not confronted by management or their guard dogs, likely that I am a necessary evil every agree on. However, now that the security dogs are sniffing and pissing about the place more frequently, we can't help it but raise the price and reduce production to continue business.
Now that I shared my little story with you, I got a job for you. You don't need to take it, and it's nothing related to the merchandise. However, do this little task, and you will earn a fee for your trouble. There is a package that needs delivering. Do not open it, the receiver can tell if you did. They will also be the one to pay you. If they don't for whatever reason, then there is nothing I will do about that. However, do this, and you will gain an ally even if the United Advancement is against you.
Other than that, if you do want to buy something, you better explain what your issue is. Me and The Doctor will not give you refunds if you are diagnosed wrongly."
"Realistic nightmares, birthday party themed, a presence... Alright, you're suffering with one of our classics. I got your diagnosis in my head, and you will receive your prescription by the end of the week. Do note that this medication will disrupt your reoccurring dreams with other kinds, so we can't guarantee your sleep remains completely stress free.
And as for the fee, I'll give you the special offer that it comes free with you performing this task for me. There is a carton of detergent left under the sinks of the Man's washroom, the one next to the along the northern corridor from the Cafeteria. Do not check it, just trust that it's the one. Putting aside the levity of relationship, what Connor says about the cult concerns Nikolai. It might be just the usual fanatical babble - after all, many religions have an all-seeing being at the front, - but the mere suggestion that this alien creature can actually see them is worrying. Even if it's just in dreams, or through its followers or the black mold, it opens a new vulnerability in any of the administration's plans. He'd like to think that these references are nothing - and they probably are, - but he can't completely dismiss it. And a promise of meeting angels soon? It warrants a mention to Samantha and the others.

"I could have been happy about the respect I receive here, if it was done in a better way. My success have earned me daily paranoia, thanks to my lab partner betraying me with attempting to sell my design schematics to buyers at home. I caught his careless act in time, and it taught me the lesson that I can't trust my fellow colleagues too.
Maybe I am not as sharp as I was, but I don't sense greed from your eyes and voice. If the matter of the mold is a true weight on your heart, I will offer a little enlightenment. However, it might do the opposite instead."
He then leaned back on his chair and prepared to tell a story.
"In the early days of the colony, about 20 years ago, I was part of a team to study Mersk's air quality. We learnt that it have a near identical chemical composition to Darst's. The vanishing of our ancestor's presence here have done little to undo the terraforming efforts millenia ago. However, there is still the obvious concerns of the particles in the air. We thought it was ash, according to the descriptions of a reckless worker that tore off her helmet, but turns out it is something else... decayed matter.
Even now I don't fully understand the cause or the origins of this abundant particle. It made no sense to modern bio-chemistry. Protein molecules joined with rare-earth metals. Potentially signs of alien life, or some bizarre chemical reaction. I didn't think on it too much, as my goal was to find a method to remove it from the air. We were also told not to tell the truth to our less educated colleagues, not that they could understand it differently. It being burnt metal was the cause we went with.
Then eventually, I finally discovered it, a liquid medium of a unique recipe that can catch the proteins and break them down harmlessly. This success have given me not only the fear of losing ownership to my hard-fought invention, but also the fear of the consequences of the process. Don't misunderstand, the produced air is perfectly safe, but the liquid medium will accumulate the particles over time. I trust only myself to oversee the installation and maintainance of my device in the air system, as unknown consequences come from doing it improperly. However, it is too costly to keep everything secure, so I resort to legal threats to be my best defense.
Now, with the news of mold and bio-terrorists, my fear on that issue grew greater. If you intend to solve this mystery, I wish you the best, but unfortunately for you two, I won't give you a demonstration of the filtration system. Perhaps you will find another avenue of research. But for now, I must be on my way to work again. Goodbye."
He gets up to open the door out of the meeting room before taking a puff of e-cig. Any hand shakes he exchange is done impassionately.
As he walked out with Corvin, Abi waited until they were out of earshot of the Dr.
Count me in! I don’t know if they go to the ventilation system, but I’ve been working as a janitor these past couple weeks. In between taking out the trash I found a bunch of more or less hidden tunnels. If you want, we could start there to look for a way into the vents? Maybe even set up a camera to record the Dr in his work.
There, he sees no one nearby, as it is near the construction sites and it is now time for work. Looking under the sink, he does indeed find the detergent box. And hurriedly move to the residential units.
Along the way, he heard someone calling out to him.
"Hey you! Wait a moment!"
Turns out it is a patrolling guard that is now walking up to him.
"Where are you going with your… box of detergent? Something about this feels suspicious. Allow me to inspect it for a moment."

As he leaves to his sleeping unit, the box left a trail of a few scattered packing peanuts. Looking at a corner in the ceiling, a camera can be seen.
Corvin and Abdullah both find their way to access the air vents. It took some climbing, crawling, sneaking and navigating. With Abdullah's memorised map of the system, he directed the way to look for key locations such as Dr Wu's lab-workshop, and a couple maintainence rooms where the air filtration device is installed in. It takes several attempts throughout the week and a few close calls, but in the end, the inventor didn't notice Corvin spying his actions. It can get fairly dusty and claustrophobic, but impressively it didn't cause the journalist to mess up.
Normally, Mr Wu spends his days performing experiments and simply building new models of his filtering mechanism. Many small piles of machine parts; casings, tubes and fans, all lay about in corners of the room and tables. He will occasionally use a microscope to observe a yellow wafer, and replace it in the machine with a new one from a drawer full of it.
One the days he leave work from his workshop, he goes to perform checks on the machines. The machines have yellow tape wrapped around it, looking like police tape but not really. He opens a panel, poke around a bit before scribbling on his note pad. He looks the most nervous doing this as he looks around the room before he does this.
At one of such checks, he shows panic, pulling out a wafer. He looks at it over his gloved hands before calming down and inserting it back. This one happens to be located near the Cafeteria. Another interesting incident is one where while waiting at a vent with a machine near the southern ship dock house, a worker in uniform entered the room, carefully checking that no one is around, before opening the panel and swapping out one wafer with another. They are wearing a hardhead that shields most of their face from view from the vent opening.
"Sure I can spare a whole week he says to the man.", then he goes for a hand shake. As he does he leans in close and whispers, "We've got eyes on us. In the corner over there. One of your cameras?"
I wonder what those wafers do. Maybe before we track down Mr Hardhat we ought to go look at the panel Dr Wu seemed concerned about.
Corvin grabbed a handful of discarded jumpers and fashioned a crude set of manacles out of them and leftover couplings in the corridor. He knew even he would have a hard time breaking out of the plastic and copper bindings if he secured them correctly. Then he slipped around the corner quickly. Making to ambush the person in the hardhat.
He waited for Abi to get the guys attention before stepping uo behind and throwing a chokehold, kicking at the back of the mans knees to throw him off balance, trying to crush him off balance into the deckplates.

Hey there friend! I’m glad I found someone. I’m new here and seem to have gotten myself a little turned around. I don’t suppose you could point me in the right direction could you? He held the data pad to his chest so that the camera was facing outward and gestured to it in suggestion that he was looking at a map.
"That, camera? That's the local security camera. I doubt that we have to be worried about that too much, if I don't hang around for long too."
Abdullah and Corvin:
The man in the hard hat looks nervous then annoyed as he sees he is distracted by a colleague looking for directions. As he get closer and studies what Abdullah may be asking for, Corvin manages to ambush the man with his restraining assault.
In time, the man finds himself on his knees and his wrists wrapped tight in cables. Despite being surprised and in a panic, he doesn't scream out. Instead, he hissed.
"Who the hell are you guys? Listen, there is no need to hurt me, or bring me to the authorities. We can work out a deal. I can give you anything you want in mind as long as you let me go free."

"Hello team members of Abdullah's security detail. I have discovered something that you guys might want to see. It is something an anonymous colleague have found, and I feel that it is best for you to see for yourselves personally instead of communicating this way. Gather in my office when you can."
To whoever that may read this:
I would like to first preface this that this isn't a joke. But what is a joke is your nation's failure to manage your interactions with the aliens. What you have been doing have been ignorance bordering on malice. As a member of The Union, it gives me joy to see how you technophiles stumble over yourselves in your effort to manage the threat you have brought upon yourselves.
I am not happy that humanity is in danger. No, I am deeply upset on that problem. But what I am happy about is that when you finally collapse, The Union will take its rightful place as the true authorities of planet Darst. If only that could happen sooner, then this disaster could be avoided.
Sincerely, a patriot amidst fools and traitors.
After having everyone take a look through, Samantha speaks.
"I am going to cut to the chase. It appears that we have a spy from The Union trying to threaten us. I am personally not very loyal to The United Advancement to tell you stop this spy for the sake of our nation, but when a third party thinks that they could involve themselves in an already troubling matter such as aliens and their cultists, that could cause unexpected chaos.
I want you to find out who typed this letter and figure out what their business is. I don't care how you go about doing this, just be careful not to get yourselves and me into trouble. And if you succeed in this task, I'll give you each a reward. 2000 Credits each for investigating this spy and not causing alarm."
He leans against the wall waiting for Samantha's answer to Wolf's question.
Corvin it seemed was quite well versed in tradecraft, ever the silent witness, the quiet observer. It didn't quite fit for a man as large as him to be so deft at it. But with his most recent foray into the ventilation ducts and his arrest of the saboteur, all with Abi's help, there was no denying why he had managed so well still stirring the hornet's nest was bound to have consequences.
