Ugost notes the guards all pull back and gages whether to jump to Scarf's aid or just switch to ranged attacks.
OOC:
Well we already threw Scarf at them . . . who next?
Question while waiting my turn
None of the guards damaging are close to the wagon so are they damaging it by riding up then retreating or something? (if so do we get Attack of Opportunity as we are just standing around?) Or ranged attacks?
May 10, 2024 5:49 pm
OOC:
Remember that your wagon's momentum makes it move 20 ft. at initiative 20 at the start of each round. So the guards get close at the end of a round, attack your wagon, then you move a bit away (and move further away later in the round). Since they're not the ones moving away from your wagon, you cannot perform attacks of opportunity here.

As for attacking the guards or their horse, there are always spells, ranged attacks, or readying a single melee attack when they get in range. Yeah, this yo-yo effect is a bit weird and annoying, but it's a result of how combat works and a quirk of the initiative system.

OOC:
if I'd wanted to light bed rolls on fire and chuck it at the horses, what would I have to roll? And what would the success of the 'attack' be dependant on?
May 10, 2024 11:00 pm
OOC:
Oil would help.
May 10, 2024 11:19 pm
OOC:
Indeed, lighting something on fire is not exactly easy, especially if it wasn't prepared to be lit up. But to resolve the action, I'd say the free use item action could be used to take out your flint and tinder and light up a bedroll, then an action could be used to throw the bedroll, I'd say a ranged attack. Then I'd give the rider a DEX save using your maneuver DC to see if he gets blinded or perhaps hindered, though the fire damage would not kick in until next round as the bedroll would need time to really "take".

Of course, if you had a spell that stipulated that it ignites unattended objects, that might work faster, but of course, it might make more sense to use it against the guards...

Finally, even without lighting it on fire, a bedroll thrown in the face of a rider could potentially blind him momentarily, or maybe even trip the horse, giving you some relief.

OOC:
well in that case...
Zaiashi picks up one of the bed rolls and throws it at closest rider.
OOC:
that is not scarfs
OOC:
sorry for the delays.
1d20+dex mod?
May 11, 2024 12:25 pm
OOC:
Yes. If you miss the rider but hit the horse's AC, I'll have the bedroll hit the horse instead, which might still help.
May 11, 2024 1:29 pm
OOC:
unroll it and throw it over the horses face to blind it
May 11, 2024 7:42 pm
Psybermagi says:
OOC:
unroll it and throw it over the horses face to blind it
OOC:
that sounds like a great idea.
Also, those horses look nighty tired from here. I'm sure they appreciate the chance for a nap.
OOC:
for... Gosh darn it... Maybe someone should just throw me at the guards 😅

Rolls

Throwing bed roll - (1d20+2)

(6) + 2 = 8

May 11, 2024 8:12 pm
Ugost positions himself at the back corner of the wagon and prepares to lash out at any guards who gets close enough to the wagon
OOC:
Gack, I hate this held action constraint. Ooze are meant to flow and wriggle freely :P

Rolls

Whip (r15') - held attack - (1d20+5, 1d4+3)

1d20+5 : (6) + 5 = 11

1d4+3 : (4) + 3 = 7

Zariana drives the wagon like a mad woman possessed by a desire to escape the law. For a moment a word, perhaps a name drifts into her mind. Frog.

Rolls

Dex - Check / Drive - (1d20+1)

(16) + 1 = 17

May 12, 2024 5:31 pm
Zaiashi switches tactics and feebly throws a bedroll out of the wagon which makes Belton exclaim "Hey! My contraband!"

Ugost prepares a strike on the guards...
OOC:
@Zariana: right now, controlling the wagon only requires the use of your bonus action, no rolls are required. This still frees your regular action for something else, like casting a spell.
May 12, 2024 10:08 pm
Zariana, skilled as she apparently is with the horse and cart tosses another firebolt at the guard heading up to take a swipe at her.
OOC:
She also wishes she could use that good roll she wasted.
[ +- ] Firebolt.

Rolls

Cha - Save - (1d20+5)

(6) + 5 = 11

May 13, 2024 8:47 pm
Your attack hits the horse (not sure what it was listed as Cha Save), so you can roll your damage (also, you do not have the rare version, rare versions of spells can be given as reward and found as treasure).
May 13, 2024 11:07 pm
OOC:
Yeah, I just cut and pasted the spell description.

Rolls

Damage 1d10 - (1d10)

(8) = 8

May 13, 2024 11:30 pm
Okay, wow, well, that's one horse taken care of. It falls to the ground taking its rider along with it.

Scarfs is up next!
May 13, 2024 11:58 pm
Scarfs again tries to dismount the rider and take control of the beast. (If I need dice roll. Feel free to wild with them.)
May 14, 2024 1:53 am
No roll needed, but the guard must succeed at a STR Save versus your Maneuver DC. Okay, I still have no idea what your Maneuver DC is, but I rolled so low, he falls (I guess I can always roll his DEX save to see if he falls prone). You now have control of the horse.

Rolls

Guard's STR Save

DEX Save (for shits and giggles)

May 14, 2024 2:04 am
I don't know how a Maneuver DC is generated. I did originally roll a 17 + 2 DEX. Is that the maneuver DC number you're looking for?

Woot. Ride'm Pinto Away...

Nope. Your Combat Maneuver Save DC is 8 + Prof + STR or DEX mod.

So I assume you ride your horse to some spot next to the wagon now?
