In the enchanting glow of sunlight filtering through the towering branches, the enchanted forest transforms into a realm of ethereal beauty. The gentle rays of the sun pierce through the emerald canopy, creating dappled patterns of light that dance upon the moss-covered ground below. The air is alive with the sweet fragrance of blooming flowers and the subtle scent of ancient magic that permeates the forest.

A delicate mist hugs the mossy ground, adding an enchanting touch to the forest's already mystical ambiance. The mist rises in tendrils, swirling around the bases of the ancient trees like ephemeral spirits. It gives the impression of a veil between the magical realms, blurring the lines between the tangible and the ethereal.
There are paths where the mist is almost absent and you follow such paths along the creek that leads down to the lake where you saw the golden shine.

You find yourself by a pond with 6 arcane symbols floating on the surface. Under the surface is a golden ring. After a quick examination, you find the water playable, but not breakable. In this pond, you can actually walk on water.
The ring you are after is just below the surface, but right now you can't touch it.

Realizing they can walk on walks Dot makes her way to the Glyphs and tries to figure out what the mean.
"This is soo Wild. " She jumps a few times just to see how it holds. "Woah. Cool" Then she heads to glyphs.

"Everyone! Be careful! All is probably not as it seems. The prize is too easy to see. This won't be that easy. We need to take care, be patient. and look around at our surroundings. Look at the obstacles. Look for potentially hidden things..."

Seraphina takes her own advice and doesn't rush to the pond but rather takes her time, surveying the area.

These glyphs are different kinds of protection spells. Together they form a barrier over the water. Dot deduces that breaking the glyphs will break the barrier.

Looking over the glyphs Dot calls out as she hops from one to the other. "These glyphs make the barrier on top of the water." She hops to another glyph. "We need to remove the Glyphs to get to the ring." She hops to another "Any idea how? Each Glyph is different...
Dec 8, 2023 10:53 pm
Bex holds up a hand
Hold on. The fish said something about air swimmers. and that theyre safe from them....could be trouble
Dec 9, 2023 1:50 am
"If it's true that the glyphs are keeping us from getting to the ring then let's plan to get rid of them! As to the fish's advice. I'm not sure what he meant by air swimmers. Was it referring to us? Did the fish think we were air swimmers because we swim above the water as rule? But we are also ground walkers. Oh dear."

The prefect was confused and unsure of how to get what they wanted.

Seraphine felt responsible for the group and knew now that their magics would dissolve those glyphs. Withdrawing her wolf's tooth oak wand, she waved it in a large arc that encompassed the entire pond while chanting old phrases handed down in her family that would dispel magic.

One of the glyphs started to shiver, then curl into itself until it became a small ball. Then it exploded dramatically into colorful flames that hissed and steamed as the sparks fell onto the water.

A fine mist/fog is covering the lowest 10 cm of forest floor As you speak of finding the next ring, the mist parts showing you 4 path deeper into the forest. You can pick any direction you want, but the forest is providing you with a path.

Kind of depends on how you want to dry yourself
You could use Brawn to move the water out of your clothes

You should use fight to summon some heat to evaporate it

I agree. Splitting up makes us weaker and more easily defeated. Let's stay together. Bex could be right. It might be a trap. On the other hand it will take us forever to cover all four but if the familiars are with us we could send them to investigate the other paths.

Each caster has a bond with their familiar that allows them limited, one-way psychic communication. Your familiar is able to carry out simple tasks for you, which the GM should decide narratively rather than with rolls. Putting a goldfish familiar in a pond to get it to swim to the other side should succeed. Smashing in a door with that goldfish, though, isn’t going to work, unless you’ve magically enlarged it and given it some way to breathe out of water

You travel deeper into the forest. Dot managed to cast a spell to dry her off and she is now studying the golden ring that she found. Even while in the shadows of the trees the ring shines with reflected light. Particularly on 5 sides of the ring. When she turns the ring, the reflective spots stay in their relative position. Almost as if the ring is pointing towards its brothers.
She can't tell the different shines apart other than one points down the path they are going right now, and the other fore is pointing off the path and into the forest.

OOC:
First off: Merry Christmas everyone or Yule if yo are of the pagan tradition
Secondly: Confligt resultuion. You have access to this table, and with the target and your own defence roll in hand, I would invite you to start narrating in the future.

Roll Results (w/applicable modifiers) Narrative Control Effect
Defender’s roll is greater or equal to attacker’s Defender narrates the outcome. Defender is uninjured; the spell misses or the blows don’t land or hurt them enough to matter.
Attacker’s roll is greater by 1 to 3 Attacker explains how they attack, and defender narrates what they do to mitigate the harm to them. Defender is hurt, but only temporarily; the spell clips them, but they’re okay; the punch stuns them but they shake it off.
Attacker’s roll is greater by 4 to 6 Attacker explains their attack, and the defender explains how they respond. The attacker then explains how this barely mitigates the harm. Defender is fairly hurt; the spell hits them and they need medical attention soon to prevent serious damage; they’re dazed and likely concussed, but can keep going; their ribs will hurt for a few days and lungs might sting for a few hours.
Attacker’s roll is greater by 7 to 9 Attacker explains their attack, and the defender explains about how they respond. The attacker can alter any of these details as the defender explains them and explains how this response fails to prevent harm. The defender is badly hurt; the spell hits true. They need to go straight to the infirmary or suffer permanent damage; they’re unconscious and will be badly concussed when they wake up; the bone is broken.
Attacker’s roll is greater by 10 or more Attacker has control over the narrative. They explain what the defender does in response to the attack—and how ineffective this response is. If the defender has sacrificed themselves for the good of the group in a noble way, the defender can add how their sacrifice helps the group in an exceptional way. The defender is dead or quite nearly dead; the spell hits home and nothing can save them; they’re beaten so badly that only immediate medical attention can help. There will be permanent effects.
OOC:
@Dreamweaver, @The_Librarian and @Smiley "Attacker explains how they attack, and defender narrates what they do to mitigate the harm to them."
Effect: "Defender is hurt, but only temporarily; the spell clips them, but they’re okay; the punch stuns them but they shake it off."
Charlotte, Dot and Bex are showered by small crystal shards, no one larger than a coin. But they are sharp, clothes and skin get cut, but only shallow wounds.
OOC:
@Windyridge: "Attacker explains their attack, and the defender explains about how they respond. The attacker can alter any of these details as the defender explains them and explains how this response fails to prevent harm. "
Effect: "The defender is badly hurt; the spell hits true. They need to go straight to the infirmary or suffer permanent damage; they’re unconscious and will be badly concussed when they wake up; the bone is broken."
Seraphine raised her secondary* arm to shield herself from the falling crystal shards. A massive crystal shard hits her and her arm is fraught with pain. There are other cuts and bruises, but her broken arm is the worst of her injuries.
OOC:
*if Seraphine is right-handed, then it's her left arm that is broken

The wind chimes in the tree falls silent, and the forest is quiet again. The only sounds are the small clinks of small crystal shards settling and the whimper of students.

Rushes to Seraphine. Do you know any healing spells? That doesnt look good. Maybe we should wrap it
Dec 27, 2023 12:24 pm
Dot searches in the rubble to try and find the gold ring. Hoping it came loose in the chaos.
Dec 27, 2023 3:34 pm
"Bex, no, sadly I never got to that part in my training. Could someone remove some of these fallen branches from me? I think my leg is trapped. Hopefully, it's not broken."

Seraphine was one discouraged girl. Her magic, even her ability to flee was waning.
Dec 27, 2023 4:53 pm
Dot finds the golden ring, still with a root with the thickness of her arm going through it. Either she has to convince the tree to remove its root, music or notes in harmony seems to be the key. The more extreme option would be somehow removing the root with cutting, burning or similar violence. Finally, they could abandon this ring, as she knows there are 4 other rings out there.
How many the other teams has she cant know, but there 6 rings, 3 for each team to find

A large falling crystal have unearthed a old flint axe head. The handle have rotted away as this have been in the ground for 10000 years, but it still has a good edge.
Dec 29, 2023 3:56 pm
Dot is chopping away at the root that traps the ring

Bex and Charlotte are giving Seraphine first aid to the best of their abilities
OOC:
Bex and Charlotte both had Brains d20 and by taking their time they can both score a 10 on their brains roll to stop bleeding and splint the arm.
Seraphine can walk and move about without problems, but she is in pain. The improvised sling helps but she needs to get that arm looked at.
As Bex and Charlotte help Seraphine to her feet, Dot breaks through the root and you now have 2 of the 3 rings required to claim the banner.

What do you want to do? Multi Public

Find the last ring all of you together
Send Seraphine to the castle for treatment
Find the other group, steal their ring
Something else, but stay in the game
Abandon the challange

You pick out a direction that roughly matches the mist-free paths. 10 minutes or so after leaving the tree, Seraphine feels dizzy and has to sit down.

"Oh dear. I'm dizzy. And oh..." Seraphine puts out a hand as if hoping for something solid to lean on when she all of a sudden topples over.

"Oh my, I'm ... everything is backward. Up is down and down is up and I'm in such pain. I fear I am not of much use at the moment."

Sloshing through the mist as if it is as thick as mud she makes her way over the Seraphine. "Stay out of the mist it is funny. " She helps Seraphine up. "One more Ring and we will win. You are doing great." She smiles at Seraphine hoping to motivate her to continue.

@Smiley,@Windyridge as you can modify your rolls with adversity tokens, I can't really roll on your behalf. But I'll have a brain skill check target 6 from Dot and 8 from Seraphine. Generally expect that targets will be with +2 because of your broken arm

"So weird," says Charlotte. "For a moment I felt that this ring is larger on the inside than on the outside."

Observing Seraphine talk about her dizziness, Charlotte wonders if the apparent spatial anomalies are related somehow.

"What's going on? Is there something behind all this weirdness?"
OOC:
Charlotte rolls a Brains magic roll to try and figure out the location of what might be causing the spatial anomalies, if they are somehow related.

Jan 1, 2024 2:44 am
"I'm not sure what's going on, Charlotte. Perhaps I can try and see more but I'll have to use my other hand to cast my spell, if you could hand me my wand please, Dot."

Between dizziness and pain, Seraphine concentrates and pushes through her discomfort to try and ascertain more about the signal coming from the woods. However, she fails miserably and the look of dejection is written all over her face.

Rolls

Seraphine Everhart: Brains - Magic Roll - (d10+0+d4+0)

(2) + (4) = 6

Jan 1, 2024 8:18 am
Seraphine cast her own revealing spell. It is difficult while her arm throbs with pain, but she shaps up the magic and releases the spell. The pain is almost forgotten as she sees all the trees turn white. At a second glance, she realises that she is seeing the wood underneath the bark. She looks at her friends to her amazement they are all naked, looking down herself so is she.
The analytical side of Seraphine concludes that the bark and clothes have turned invisible, as otherwise Bex's boyparts should have been dangling if the clothes had disappeared.
All this happens within 5 seconds and after, everything is back to the way it was. But there are now images inside Seraphine's head that will stay with her for a while, luckily dizzyness is gone.
OOC:

Right, @Windyridge, Seraphine is doing everything with -2 to her rolls due the the pain. The target for the spell is 13 as previously calculated. You fail by -9 and thus " The spell fails in a benign burst of magic. At the GM’s discretion, there may be some minor, incredibly brief unexpected effects. Narratively, there may be some slightly embarrassing effects if anyone’s there to witness them."
The roll is failed so you get another AT (Adversity Token) and I expect you to keep track of those yourself ;)

Now my question to you, @Windyridge, and while the others can vote yours is the deciding factor:

The revealing spell you just casts Public

Did it affect Seraphines eyes, so only she saw everyone naked
Did it affect the nearby environment, so everyone saw everyone naked

To everybody: Are there any unique markings or similar that have been revealed? Does Dot have a mole in a funny shape? Does Bex have scars along his back? Does Charlotte E. Ashwood have a tramp-stamp tattoo?
Jan 1, 2024 12:56 pm
OOC:
Bex has a nasty scar on one arm and under his ribs. There is a tattoo of a cat and a raven on his pec
Let me try. This place is messing with our heads
Bex also trys a revealing spell, hoping to clear the fog, or darkness. But still worrying that it's the result of a major spell and nothing they can fix.

I think i need a new wand...

Dot doesn't have anything really strange; her skin is very pale, and she has freckles almost everywhere.
She is not worried about Seraphine seeing her body, but she still crosses her arms across her chest.

I think it might be best to ignore these strange things. Its just the woods playing tricks on us." She checks her gold ring and tries to pin point the next ring location.
Jan 3, 2024 2:30 am
Charlotte sat in thought many long moments after she cast her spell. Then she turns to the group and says, "The source of the weirdress -I recognised the impression vistigia! It was the same unnatural sensation as the signature of the mage who opened a tear into another world and let monsters into the library!"

Dot starts messing with the ring to figure out the next location...

Bex raises an eyebrow. Last time we were attacked. I wouldn't ignore it. Stay on your toes. We don't know what the caster is up to this time
He looks down at his wand, which has been failing him lately.
And the other group may be in trouble....i saw them for a moment
Jan 4, 2024 4:53 pm
"Can we close the tear, Charlotte?

Seraphine can't help a small whimper of pain.
Jan 4, 2024 5:20 pm
Charlotte is distraught to see Seraphine in such pain. "Uh, close the tear. Hmmm, how would I do that? Let me see..." Charlotte is skeptical that she can figure out how to close the tear with so little information, but figures it is worth a shot. Maybe she can learn something, however small.

Charlotte waves her wand and starts to chant a spell.

Quote:
(Roll + Modifiers) - Target Guidelines for Success or Failure for Spell Checks
+10 or higher The character seems to cast the spell effortlessly. It looks like the character is just showing off, like this is a spell the character could do in their sleep. The spell functions perfectly.
For example, the caster glances casually over their shoulder at a cup of tea, makes a small flick of the wand, and steam starts to quietly rise out of the cup.
+5 to +9 The character casts the spell quite impressively. To anyone watching, it seems like this is a spell the character has mastered. The spell functions perfectly.
For example, the caster raises their wand, points it at the cup of tea for a few seconds, and steam starts to rise out of the cup.
+1 to +4 The character casts the spell but not impressively. Sure, it works, but it’s clear that the character put serious effort into making it succeed. The spell functions as expected.
For example, the caster turns their attention to the cup of tea and furrows their brow. They raise their wand steadily at the cup, murmur the correct incantations, and, as they hold the wand there, it takes a few moments for the tea to come to a boil. A few beads of sweat appear on their brow.
0 The character casts the spell—but just barely. The strain of casting the spell is clear for everyone watching, and the spell might not function perfectly, but it gets the job done.
For example, the caster’s wand wavers as they focus their attention on the cup of tea. With sweat pouring from their brow, they repeat the incantation many times until, finally, the tea starts to bubble. It’s a bit too hot to drink now, but it will cool soon.
-1 to -4 The spell simply fails. At the GM’s discretion, it may appear that the spell is about to work but then does not. Narratively, there will be no impact on the story from this failure...beyond the caster not achieving their stated goal.
For example, the caster strains, but their spell does not heat the cup of tea. Only one small wisp of steam rises off the surface.
-5 to -9 The spell fails in a benign burst of magic. At the GM’s discretion, there may be some minor, incredibly brief unexpected effects. Narratively, there may be some slightly embarrassing effects if anyone’s there to witness them.
For example, the tea in the cup turns for a moment to water, and the caster’s hair stands on end.
-10 to -14The spell fails in a dangerous burst of magic. There will certainly be some minor effects as described above and, at the GM’s discretion, the effect of the spell might work, but on the wrong target. Narratively, there might be some short-term impact to the direction the game.
For example, nothing happens to the tea in the cup, but the cup itself shatters and the caster finds that they have first-degree burns where they were holding their wand. They now will want to get to the school’s infirmary to have their injury treated.
-15 or lower The spell fails in an incredibly dangerous way. There will certainly be bad effects as described above, and perhaps quite a bit worse. Narratively, such a failure should alter the course of the game. Remember, such failures will only occur when a character is incredibly reckless in their use of magic.
For example, the tea cup explodes violently, and the caster is cut by some of the shards. In addition, part of the table the cup was on bursts into flames, which they’ll have to contend with immediately. That’s made all the more difficult, though, because they have second-degree burns covering their entire hand that held the wand.

Charlotte cant just swing a wand and learn how to close a breach into this world. So I'll disreguard the wand and magic bonuses and take the Brain skill test of 18.
Charlotte figures that closing a breach could be extreamly complex. But disrupting the spell that keeps it open, might be within her skill set. She has mess up other peoples magic before and where there always was a backlash, it got the job done.
