Albertus acquiesces, and regathers with his companions. I will ca,l upon divine powers, to scan this area ahead for evil, friends, he exclaims!
Lowering his head in intense concentration, Albertus calls upon divine sense!
OOC:
Move up 30’, and if I don’t see anything, I’ll activate Divine Sense.

Ogbar looks at the skewered priestess and shakes his head, "These things aren’t very smart," he says, chopping it down and then taking it back to toss it in the pit.
Jan 17, 2024 8:02 am
Ogbar steps into the room past the flailing arms of the dead priestess and, with one solid chop of his axe, breaks off the haft of the spear. Immediately the undead woman begins walking toward him, but then the barbarian grabs the end of the shaft and pushes it ahead of him, shoving the zombie backwards just out of its reach, east down the hall, back to the mezzanine and the railing above the drop to the first-floor pit.
OOC:
Is someone helping Ogbar muscle the skewered priestess over the railing, or is he going to try to attack or incapacitate her so that he can then grapple and toss her by himself?
Albertus calls upon Pelor and he is filled with the righteous sense of any evil in the area. There is a strong sense of undead coming from the creature that Ogbar is pushing, and from the pit on the first floor. There are no other beings that he can detect, but he does sense an area of desecration above him...in roughly the same direction as the origin of the beams of light earlier (east and a bit south of where he is now)!

Xana and Kragga enter the room and look through it carefully, but everything else in the room is decayed and covered with a thick layer of dust. Whatever was in the desk - papers, or a journal? - has long since crumbled away.

Joseph, Theran, and Aanbo talk about traps. Speaking of traps, part of the spear shaft still extends out of a narrow hole in the wall in this bedroom. Anyone who isn't otherwise occupied can roll an INT check if they wish to examine it.

Aanbo will help Ogbar manage the skewered priest.

Our knightly fellow opens his eyes. And, looks straight up!

Desecration right above us, friends, Al says in kind paladinic report. Roughly the same direction as the origin of the beams of light earlier. And just east and a bit south of where we are now!
Jan 17, 2024 9:44 pm
Following so that the barbarian will have light, Aanbo joins Ogbar at the railing, and awkwardly with one hand the dwarf holding the torch helps heft the broken spear (with the animated corpse skewered in the middle) up and over the top. Ogbar notes the gleam of the medallion around the priestess' slit neck as the corpse tries to reach him. Then the dwarf and human let go: the undead priestess falls and disappears through the floor below with a loud "CRUNCH!" noise. A moment later, another golden beam of energy emits from a patch of the ceiling a bit to the south, streaming down to disappear into the illusory floor below them.
Next to them, Albertus points to the ceiling to emphasize what he just said:
"Desecration right above us, friends!"

Joseph asks "What's this now?" but doesn't immediately see how the trap works/worked. Theran (who did so well with the traps outside), Xana, and Kragga remain in the room with him. Any of them could also try.

Secret Roll

Albertus rejoins with his companions.
What now friends, Al asks kindly. Shall we continue on a while? Where to from here?
Jan 18, 2024 2:45 am
Aanbo watches the illusory floor carefully, wondering if the body they just dumped inside will start climbing out. "You think that light knows where the people are?" he asks Ogbar.
Jan 18, 2024 6:00 pm
Theran will cautiously look at the hole the spear came out of. "Maybe the medallions attract the light?" he posits as he inspects the trap.

Investigation (INT) - (1d20-1)

(12) - 1 = 11

Jan 18, 2024 9:13 pm
While Joseph traces the hacked-off butt of the spear into a concealed hole in the west wall, Theran surmises that there must be a trigger mechanism somewhere. He finds a button behind the door, positioned in the east wall so that, when the door is opened, the trap is triggered (presumably launching the spear out of the hole in the wall). But he also sees that there is a hinged "locking arm" on the button, connected to a rod going into the east wall. He calls Joseph's attention to it, and together they examine the southern wall of the corridor to the east of the door. Quickly they find that one of the stone bricks in the wall is loose; prying it out reveals a switch, and throwing that switch locks the button so that the trap wouldn't have been triggered when the door was opened.
Jan 19, 2024 3:38 pm
"Hmm... Joseph becomes thoughtful. "so at least some of these traps can be disarmed to allow safe passage."
Jan 19, 2024 3:43 pm
"So it would seem," Theran muses as he looks at the mechanism he and Joseph had discovered. "The trick seems to lie in finding the mechanism before the trap."
Jan 19, 2024 4:44 pm
"Well, if the light comes from above, let's see if we can find a way up there," says Aanbo. However, he keeps his attention downstairs to check if the speared priest begins to climb out.
Jan 19, 2024 5:55 pm
Albertus shifts paladinic attention to helping find a way up. His emerald eyes gazing upwards and following any protruding beams of light!
Jan 20, 2024 7:57 am
There is a brief thudding noise from downstairs, then a bit of shuffling, then silence. Aanbo observes nothing emerging from the pit.
Joseph and Theran, knowing what to look for, are confident that can easily spot loose stones like that one again, and are determined to check for them before attempting to open any more doors (if they are in the vicinity, either one of them will automatically disarm such traps in future unless you request otherwise).
When the golden beams came, they seemed to pass through the solid stone of the ceiling as if it wasn't there, but Albertus sees no obvious way for people to go that way. But the stained stairway to the north leading up may be a route the party could take. There are also four unopened doors in the hallway that might also lead to other ways up.

Albertus stands silently stalwart. Unsure of the party’s collective course of coming action.
We…could take the stairs up, he kindly reports. Or, we’ve still four unopened doors on the hallway. Any luck with the traps to our west, friends?
Jan 20, 2024 7:05 pm
"I, too, am curious about where this light shines from. Taking the stairs up does seem logical, Albertus."

He informs his fellow Dungeon Busters about their plan in case they want to join, and then leads the way up the stair.
Jan 21, 2024 3:56 am
"But the doors! Surely you're curious what's behind those unopened doors?" Xana gestures towards the doors, but makes no move to go open them. She reluctantly follows behind the others if/when they follow Kraggy up the stairs.
Jan 21, 2024 5:01 am
Theran looks to Xana, then to Kragga, then back. "If we can search those doors with fewer undead that we can't keep down trying to pummel us... we should be able to wrap up and return to that boy that much faster," he posits before following up the stairs.
