2. The First Delve

Burbage says:
...there is a gang of 8 kobolds. They are standing beside a couple of litters loaded with an array of crates and casks.
...Each of the two wolves is leashed by a pair of goblins...Eight further goblins follow behind (making twelve in total).
OOC:
Well, it's not the classic "There are 20 goblins in a 10'x10' room," but it does evoke some of that same feeling, with 21 people and 2 wolves and a bunch of stuff in a 30'x30' space. I love it!
Still out in the north-south hallway with the others, Gabbro looks down the side hall into the room with Pickles and all the kobolds, wolves, and goblins as best he can, trying to see if he recognizes any of the goblins from the group that the party rescued earlier. If so, he will call out and wave.

"Hi! Remember us? We helped you escape earlier!"

A look crossed between shear terror and anger suddenly appears on the Kobold’s face he is negotiating with, and Pickles feels he has was to good for this silly Kobold. It is not until Gabbro calls out does the Halfling’s head turn to see the snarling wolves and dozen Goblins, who had not been there a second ago.
"Oh Shit!" is all that slips out of his mouth before his is high tailing it towards his companions, drawing a bow at the same time.
OOC:
Pickles will use his full movement to run back towards the group.

Gabbro is almost certain that the goblins you rescued earlier are amongst the crew now stealing the kobolds’ provisions. He catches the eye of one of them, but it looks away guiltily.
Pickles is joined in the exodus from the room by all of the kobolds. It is clear that they have no intention of putting up a fight with the goblins. Abandoning their goods, they turn right upon exiting the room and scurry away south down the corridor.

Six of the goblins in the room begin the process of dragging the laden litters towards the secret door. The remainder keep a close eye on you, but it doesn’t appear they intend to attack. They seem only interested in purloining the crates and casks.

The ball is in your court. If you wish to take any action against the goblins, now is the time to do it. As they would be reacting to your intervention, you have initiative should you need it.

So, what's the plan? For those that voted, "cast Sleep first and then negotiate" is the unanimous choice. Is that how you would like to proceed?

It would be Gabbro casting Sleep, right?
Mar 18, 2025 5:09 pm
OOC:
I believe Gabbro is the caster
Mar 19, 2025 1:15 pm
Gabbro casts Sleep on the goblins.

Rolls

Sleep HD affected - (2d8)

(83) = 11

Old Animal Pen
Ten of the goblins (all but the two noticeably larger ones) succumb to Gabbro’s magically-induced slumber. That just leaves the two larger goblins and … err … two wolves who are no longer under the control of their now snoozing handlers!

As the situation has changed and there are now three independent groups of combatants … the Hellions, the goblins, and the unleashed wolves … let’s restart combat.

No one is currently in melee. Does anyone plan to cast any spells in the upcoming round? If not, you may roll for initiative.

Initiative for the wolves - (1d6)

So ... the wolves and the Hellions go first simultaneously, the goblins go last.

Now, let's see who each unleashed wolf decides to attack. At the start of combat, the wolves and goblins are in the Old Animal Pen Room, and the Hellions are in the corridor outside. Your marching order in the Marching Order thread is out of date, so I will assume that it's Gabbro and Ricard in the front row.

The wolves' options are 1-2 = goblin, 3= Gabbro, 4 = Ricard.

Three-way Fight - Round 1
The two freed wolves turn on their masters, each biting one of the goblins and drawing first blood.

At the same time, Gabbro unleashes a slingstone that also finds its mark, further injuring one of the goblins.

The rest of the Hellions may now take their actions. Bear in mind that if you wish to engage either the goblins or the wolves in melee, you must move into the room from the corridor.

Three-way Fight - Round 1 (continued)
Luther and Jessica advance into the room to engage the goblins. Already distracted by the wolves, the goblins are slow to spot the approaching clerics. One hammer blow and one mace strike later, both goblins are lying dead on the floor.

That just leaves the Hellions and the wolves. Would Bob, Pickles or Ricard like to do anything this round?

Johann looks to Ricard for instruction.

A trickle of a smile finds its way onto Pickles lips as his companions effortlessly dispatch the bigger Goblins. He nimble hands flicking out bow and arrow, his mind slowing his breath as he moves just inside the room releasing an arrow at one of the wolves.

Ricard catches Johann's look and answers,

"If you have a spell that might help, nows the time, otherwise throw something at the wolves!"

He would have preferred to hold position at the door and force the wolves into a bottleneck but when Luther runs into the room Ricard knows he must follow. Magic sword and shield at the ready, he dashes towards the wolf shot by Pickles and lunges...

Rolls

Three-way Fight - Round 1 (continued)
Pickles, as unerring as always, shoots an arrow into the flank of one of the wolves. It yelps and turns its attention towards the party.

Johann pats himself down, looks all around, and shrugs, drawing a blank for anything he could hurl at the wolves. He spots a crossbow lying on the ground, dropped by one of the now-sleeping goblins and creeps into the room to recover it. (Johann may fire next round).

Ricard rushes to join the two clerics in the front line, but his attack completely misses the injured wolf.

Waiting for Bob to conclude the round.

Three-way Fight - Round 2 (continued)
To keep things moving, let’s assume Bob is paralysed by indecision and progress to round 2.

The current situation is that Jessica, Luther and Ricard are currently in melee with the wolves, whilst Gabbro, Pickles, Johann and Bob are close to the room’s eastern exit.

Before we roll for initiative, do any of the melee participants wish to move (i.e. make a fighting withdrawal or retreat), or does anyone want to cast any spells?

The wolves are intent on continuing the fight.
