Thugs
Hrafe and Ylliane team up finish off the last half orc they can see, just in time for the half orc that was knocked off the platform, the 3 humans from the other side of the room, and the boss to arrive.

"A couple of muscle heads," the boss says as he finishes climbing the ladder one handed with his great axe in the other hand. "Seems there are some lightfoots too. Boys, take care of the elf and old lady. I got these bozos."

The 3 humans run up, one seeing that Ylliane is attacking from the bridge. One of them looks at the other two and says, "I gots an idea. You go get the pointy ears and I'll handle the dame." The human that spoke runs up and takes out a knife. "I see you like the bridge. Let's see how you like the spikes below it!" he then cuts one of the two ropes holding the bridge up with his action. The bridge becomes extremely unstable, but doesn't collapse just yet as both need to be cut for that to happen.
OOC:
I need Ylliane to make a Dexterity check, DC 20. Any background you can justify that would help move over a swaying bridge can be added. On a success you can jump off the bridge with your movement, you decide which side you would run to. If you run to the side with everyone on it, the guy will be so surprised he backs up enough that Ylliane can stand where he is right now. On a failure, you can do as with a success, but you spend both your movement and action and you have to drop something into the area below the bridge as you struggle and drop something by accident.
The other two humans run up to Edgar and try to bash him with their maces.

The last half orc tries to run past to do as the boss says but gets too close to Makasi. As such, he takes a swing at her as he hopes to move past her next round. The boss takes a big swing at Hrafe, seeing his goon go after Makasi.
OOC:

Summary
Edgar takes 12 damage (4 and then crit for 8)
Makasi takes no damage

Edgar winces as their maces connect with him. He looks back at Ylliane with concern seeing the thug target the bridge. Using his inborn elven teleportation he appears next to the dagger wielder. "Oh no you don't!" he utters and tries to stab him.

Sadly, Edgar's attack does not connect. For whatever reason, this human was ready for a sudden attack. Edgar, skilled as he is, at least manages to nick him.

The sickening crack and crunch that followed the mighty blow from the bandit leader nearly floored Hrafe. Hrafe who's resilience once more kept him standing. "You can't kill me. I am Hrafe The Unstoppable Slayer." Hrafe leaned heavily on Glaezentorg, unwilling to let such miserable scum kill him in such a depressing place. As he spoke blood ran from his mouth.

Hrafe once more finds himself at death's door, but instead of being deterred he is thrilled. He was invigorated by the sight of his own blood. Standing toe to toe, fighting for his life. "Grandfather, Horgalles, be my arm! Take this one's soul!"

With that he riciprocated the furious blow for one of his own. It struck true, and as he had shown many times before, the rush of striking a mortal blow envigorated him. He was still the worse for wear, but his goddesses favored him Hrafe's mortal wound began to heal.

The boss takes the blow hard, but then slowly turns back with a grin. What would stagger or even slay one of the humans or half orcs nearby seems to be but a scratch to their boss. Those who notice this may begin to realize now how such a man came to be in charge.
Mar 27, 2024 3:31 am
Seeing the big man nearly lay Hrafe low, Makasi mutters a prayer to her ancestors: "Not quite ready to meet you all in person. Keep us alive, OK?" She then focuses her energy on the half-orc in front of her, channeling her spirit into the strike.

Makasi swings and strikes the half orc as he misses the paladin. Knocking him to his knees but not to the ground. It is clear the half orc was not expecting such a hit.

The bridge dips treacherously as Ylliane tries to determine her next target, and it's only her years competing in the Iron Sea Cup that save her. In that race, you didn't get to choose to go around a storm unless you wanted to lose; you went through it and prayed you didn't capsize. The bridge might as well be a sailing vessel coming over a swell, and she moves along with it, running up the high side as it swung up, and leaping back to the other side once she's high enough. She barrels straight into the one who just cut the ropes; living is better than comfort.
OOC:
Will move over with everyone else, otherwise, probably be stuck.

Oh, I read that wrong I guess the first time around. Well.
As her enemy is forced to give her room, she decides to push even more, bringing her bow up and around as she gets into close quarters with him, and shoves the tip into his gut - or tries to at the very least.

OOC:
I'm not sure what the rules are for using a bow as a melee weapon are here, as often there is a penalty since bows are under a lot of pressure and using them like a club can be very bad for them, but I'll not have anything bad for now. Keep in mind making a ranged attack in melee is only a problem if you are engaged with more than one enemy.
Ylliane skillfully jumps and shoved the enemy back, as she follow up with a swing of her bow that goes wide. The human seems surprised and a little miffed. He had hoped to see her fall, or at the least cut the other rope so she would have been stuck on the other side.

The humans advance to help their friend, one helping with Ylliane and the other going for the elf, Edgar. The half orc attempts to disengage and go after Edgar, but if he is unable to then he takes a swing at Makasi.

The boss looks at Hrafe. "A religious zealot, are you? I enjoy smashing people like you. The gods mean nothing to me. All that matters is this power I have!" He then takes a swing at Hrafe with his great axe.

As a lucky blow from a powerful boss sends Hrafe to the ground, the remaining party members look at each other and share a glance that says, "We need to leave..." Makasi holds off the boss, focusing entirely on evading and keeping his attention. Ylliane draws as much attention as she can from the humans as Edgar grabs Hrafe. As things look bad, Edgar manages to find a reserve of power deep down that manages to push his high elf powers beyond what they normally can do, and likely can't do again for a while, where he teleports himself and hrafe across the swaying, half destroyed bridge. Makasi sees this and makes a bolt for the bridge, shoving some of the humans to the ground and catching them off guard enough that they don't register in time to attack her. Makasi and Ylliane cross the bridge, then Ylliane cuts down the bridge from the other side. This gives them the opening they need to get to the entrance and away before the humans can chase. They make it back to the road and happen upon some travelers who offer to help the party.
OOC:
Hrafe will live, but since he technically should have died I'll say he gets some long term wound from the encounter. Hrafe can decide what the injury is. As for the whole party, the people you meet on the road have a cart and offer to take you either back to Axis, the closer location where you started but is backtracking, or Fort Triumph, which adds some days to the travel but is where you were going anyways.

Where are you going?

The group arrives at Fort Triumph after a few days. Makasi's healing has kept Hrafe's body from deteriorating, but that can't last forever. As the city comes in view, it is an impressive sight. The city has high walls and is clearly militaristic. Edgar is quite familiar, as few have worked for the Crusader and never step foot in this place. With Edgar's status and the Dragon Emperor's mission papers, you are able to get through the gate checkpoint without issue.

As you arrive, you know you must find a way to end Hrafe's coma. Suddenly, Edgar remembers a person he could ask and a favor from, but he knows the aid never comes without cost in work. It is up to him to mention this person to the group.
OOC:
Edgar has a 5 from his icon relationship dice. This means he could use his die to have Hrafe resurrected, but as it is a 5 there will need to be a cost. If you go down this route, you will be given a side quest after Hrafe is healed. If you fail the sub quest then then Edgar will have a complicated relationship going forward and perhaps the Crusader will hear of it. Succeed and you will be all good, and perhaps rewarded a little.

If you elect not to use the die, you will need to propose to me how you help Hrafe. The Crusader is allied with the emperor, but only in that they share an enemy (the demons). The Crusader and Priestess are mortal enemies, but generally behave when both around the Dragon emperor.

OOC:
I have a relation with the Lich King, but I don't think we want to go that route! :P The Crusader route makes sense to me.
Makasi has been quiet much of the past few days, save for praying under her breath for Hrafe to come through. She's been to the Afterworld, and it can be fine if you're meant to be there. But she's not convinced Hrafe is meant to go there yet. His death at the hands of some brigand would be so meaningless, so empty...

As the walls of Fort Triumph feel increasingly claustrophobic, she asks Edgar, "You said you knew a place that might help him here?"
