General conversation/OOC commentary

Honestly, I think a big part of it is that some people aren't that organized. There's a deadline to get your game posted before the convention; a lot of people miss the deadline, either because they forget, they aren't ready, or because they're not even sure that they'll be able to attend until after the deadline has passed. I've been in that category sometimes!

Other people go to a con primarily to meet with friends, and they don't want to schedule a game that might conflict with their friends' schedule. That hasn't been me, but my son definitely has been in that group, as he has gamer friends from different states, countries, and hemispheres that come to meet in person at a gaming convention. It'd be terrible if your only chance to see your friend from, say, Argentina in person is the convention, but when their flight arrives, you're in a game with a bunch of (probably cool, but still) strangers.

I guess there's a third possibility: some people may not want to plan that much, but rather enjoy playing it by ear, taking things as they come. I don't relate to that as much, but I definitely see that vibe in some others.

That all sounds super awesome. I hope I can get to a con someday that runs games like that. I think they do it at the anime con where I live (it's anime and general gaming, but started as anime so that's the name still) but I didn't get a chance to check it out when I was there this year because I was toting people around with me who would have been lost without me. Took one friend to his first even con, then another friend and my daughter for a half day. I didn't even think to check the gaming setup on the day I was there by myself scoping it all out.

I've got family visiting from overseas, so my posting will be a bit sporadic over the next few days. I should still be able to check nightly, but just letting you know in case I miss a day or so.

You guys are so lucky I hit Preview instead of send yesterday... we would've had to hide bodies or ditch them in the river. and that flying chick would've swooped down and we wouldda had to fight her too..

The servant sat on the floor, pulling his knees to his chest. "Me mum passed when I was but 7. A disease took her, and there was no money for a cleric. Papa took to the bottle, and vented his drunken anger upon me when I made a mistake. I ran away at 11..." his breath became ragged as he tried to focus.

"So I wasn't there when orcs attacked the village and beat him to death. The fact he died while I still was so angry... it eats at me... knowing I'll never get to make peace..." the tears had started slow, but they rolled freely down his face now.

"Then I though I found love. A sweet half-elven lass named Mira. She was stunning, and kind, and for some reason she liked me. Or... I thought she did. Nine cycles of the moon we were inseperable. I came home, and our little home was completely empty save for a note where she professed that she never loved me, she just wanted my mother's ring. The woman I loved and the only thing I had of my poor mum... gone in the same moment..." The servant was a blubbering mess, as even the awakened and predatory plants stopped to look at the poor man digging up long since buried pain.

That's only true if the player had chosen to take the "average" of 5 rather than rolling for HP. Redamancy has chosen to roll HP each time, and has been getting bad rolls. It's been a while, but you've been around to see all of this.
In case that was a legitimate question rather than just a sort of sympathetic-venting at the hazardous life your teammate leads, here's the record:
Eozindra started with 8 HP at level 1.
Rolling for level 2, Eozindra gained 2 HP, for a total of 10.
Rolling for level 3, Eozindra gained 5 HP, for a total of 15.
Rolling for HP at level 4, Eozindra gained 2 HP, for a total of 17.

You all are close to unlocking some achievements, some of which may ameliorate this somewhat with the next level.

Yeahhhhh. She's a mess. I rolled real bad on all her hit die. Plus her con is garbage. She's just a frail weakling. Hence, her backstory. Which none of the party know, but anyone else has access to it, hah.

Maybe use Action Surge this turn to Disengage with one action, then Dash with your extra action?

@idylliceffie Just as a reminder... Eir is a rogue, so don't forgoe your bonus action! You can disengage (if needed, I can't remember if the tree threatens the doorway or not) or dash to get out ahead (or at least catch) your sister.
