'Pffttt...' Sigg grumbles. OF COURSE MacWhirr wouldn't thank him. 'Yeah thanks for handing those overalls to her. Nice.' 'Surprised she didn't take credit for finding them herself' he thinks. The young man hoped he would find a way out of here somehow.

Holroyd nods and setps into the elevator, pushing himself to the back with the intent to be the last one off at the next level where he can take up a rear guard on the group.

It appears I'm on everyone's shit list :)

OOC:
lol- nothing personal of course, my pre made character sheet makes note of Sigg resenting MacWhirr for taking credit for his work (or something similar).

OOC:
Apparently Morgan has a problem with authority...
but being on everyone's shit list makes it easier to sacrifice all of us later :D

That's true, lol.

According my character sheet, Janice is just about the only character Hannah likes. She just grew up hard and doesn't know how to play nice with others.

Your party makes its way quietly into the elevator, and one of you presses the button to send it down to the floor below, to Sub-Level 1.

There is a frustrating, nerve-wracking difference between your attempts to move stealthily, speak quietly, and the jarringly-loud clanking of the elevator as its door closes, and takes you down to the next level.

The door opens into the vehicle unloading and cargo bay - one of the larger open spaces in the colony. The sub-levels of the colony are always dark and smelly. In this space the smell is grease and chemicals and damp fabric and a hint of mould. The ceiling here is high, to enable work on top of the biggest vehicles run at the base - Hannah's tractor is one of them.

There is one other tractor in here, of a similar model to Hannah's - but you can see that its motor has been removed from it. The motor lies in several pieces on the floor nearby.

The lighting down here isn't working well - several of the overheads are burnt out, and others are flickering irregularly, causing shadows to come and go.

Emerging from the elevator, in the same wall is a doorway that leads to a corridor towards the mass housing and the main storerooms - which is where the recorded repeating message was telling you to assemble for safety.

In the far left corner of the room, as you emerge from the elevator, is a large door that leads towards the vehicle bay and the ramp that leads to the main vehicle entrance.

Apart from a dripping sound, and a flapping tarp, you hear nothing but the sounds of your own breathing, and your hearts...
OOC:
What would you like to do next?

Search this vehicle unloading/cargo storage space? Head to the mass housing/storage space, or something else?

"It's quiet in here", Hannah says under her breath. Her eyes dart from side to side looking for threats.
"Anything could be hiding, well, anywhere!", she thinks.
OOC:
My vote is to move towards mass housing, but she will follow the leader.

Holroyd takes a quick look around as they pass through the room. "Violence is occurring. We have precious few weapons - I do not like this for any of you. Look for anything - wrenches, pipes." After several moments of combing through the vehicle and its surroundings, he shakes his head- "Nothing."

For future reference, searching an area as Holroyd does here takes a Turn i.e. 5-10 minutes. But this time we'll leave it as taking just "several moments".

"Hey, I been in tighter spots," says Morgan. It might be true. He's been in life-threatening situations, but this one feels pretty bad right now. It's the not knowing. In combat, even if you didn't know where your enemy was, you knew they were there, what they were capable of. This was just... uncertainty. He says a silent prayer for his safety, for all their safety.

"If there's nothing and no one here, I guess we head to the main dance floor," he says, pointing toward the door to mass housing and the main storerooms.

"Singleton, you still good to take point?" She looks as nervous as Morgan feels, though he's trying to hide it. If she's trying to hide it, too, she might be worse off than him.

"You know it.", she says to Hirsch adjusting the grip on her gun. Her nerves kick in, flooding her body with adrenaline, but she uses it to focus.

Her mind calms.

She remembers the old days, before this job, before the company. She remembers the seedy bar. Three people close in in her. One of them holds a broken bottle. They are arguing over a friendly game of billards that became decidedly unfriendly. She remembers the jitters before she picked up the pool cue and the man's face after the fight was over.

"Wonder what Hirsch would of that?", she thinks and squints her eyes. She stares at the entrance to Mass Housing.

As previously agreed, Holroyd takes up position behind the others as they move forward.

OOC:
I'll wait until the end of today for Macwhirr/@McButterpants and Sigg/@SenorDeebs to post if here's anything they'd like to do in this space - if they don't post, I'll narrate you moving towards the mass housing section.

Sonny will continue to follow along with the group- as carefully and quietly as he can.
Feb 6, 2024 3:39 am
OOC:
sorry. I've been down with the flu.
Janice will follow the group
Feb 6, 2024 7:14 am
OOC:
Oh no. The 'flu can be so damn miserable. Sending you all best wishes for a quick recovery @McButterpants.

Would you like me to 'pilot' Sigg while you get better? I'd keep him in the background unless combat starts up?

Or would you prefer to keep posting just with slower frequency? I'm up for slowing the game down so that you can keep on participating?
You make your way down the corridor towards the entrance to the mass housing and storage section. As you get closer you can hear the air purification system running much faster than usual, and you can smell smoke coming from ahead of you. You can also smell... chaos...? Death...? A smell of bodily fluids, growing stronger as you approach - but mixed also with an acrid smell that dominates in your mouths, noses, eyes, and throats over the smell of smoke.

As you come up to the door, you can see that it's partially closed - but not completely. A leg is protruding out into the corridor, and seems to have stopped the door from closing completely.

And in the corridor ahead of you - if you were to keep moving straight ahead and past this door, there are crimson drag marks, and many speckles and some thick lines of what looks like blood leading down the passage.

As Singleton comes to the door, she can see through into the space beyond.

And what she sees is even worse than she might have imagined. She sees mayhem and chaos and slaughter and blood. So much blood. Everywhere.

The room has been destroyed. The door she sees ahead of her has been torn apart. Ceiling and floor and air vents have been shredded. Some mutilated bodies - some torn-off-seeming body parts - can be seen strewn around the room. And more - many more - drag marks - up walls, across the floor. In the floor, there are several sections that seem to have melted. Still fizzing with some kind of liquid - an acid? - around the edges. She can also see smoke from several smouldering fires.
OOC:
Singleton takes +1 STRESS from what she sees through the door. Any PC that joins her in the room, or just to look through the door, will also take +1 STRESS. It's pretty damn awful in there.
Feb 6, 2024 8:29 am
Holroyd stops with the others as he sees Singleton pause at the entrance to the room. "What is is that you see?" he asks. He considers moving forward, but decides it best to stick with the plan and hold the rear.
Feb 6, 2024 12:34 pm
OOC:
The flu is terrible! Wishing you a quick recovery.
Hannah stands stock still. Her gun hand developing a growing tremor.

"Look at all that blood. Is that someone's? What is that?", she thinks as she takes in the carnage. She looks at each chunk of gore and hopes beyond hope they didn't belong to anyone she knew. She knows better.

She swallows and gives a little laugh.

"They're dead. They're all dead", she says. Her voice strained with with a rising panic.

"Something or someone tore them apart...I. Something tore them apart., she whispers as she tries to contain her stress.

I should be fine to post. It might be quick and sloppy.
Janice steps into the room behind Hannah and gasps. These are people she's known for a long time. She's worked beside many of them. Seeing friends and co-workers slaughtered like this shakes her to her core. Oh my God! She gasps quietly. This is a massacre. This is not the work of a sole gunman, or even a group. This ... I don't even know what could have done this.

Janice looks to Hirsch Have you ever seen anything like this before? What are we dealing with here?

Janice looks around the room searching for any living soul, and any sign that whatever did this might still be in the area.
OOC:
At this point, it's just a cursory glance around the room and listening for movement. She doesn't do a formal search.
