Scene 1: What are you waiting for?

OOC:
I've just added a brief summary of how each of the skills is expected to be used to the How to play Alien RPG thread, @SenorDeebs.

Commtech is for rolling when you're doing a "challenging attempt to program, repair, decrypt or otherwise manipulate any type of computer or communications technology."

Trying to hack a card-reader that is being used to secure a door would be a commtech roll, if you're thinking about trying to get into the Command Crew Quarters.
Feb 8, 2024 2:00 pm
OOC:
Yes- I would love to try that.
Sonny approaches the terminal. ‘Let’s see if I can get this to open…’

Rolls

Commtech (Wits) - (7d6)

(3365412) = 24

Stress dice - (3d6)

(233) = 8

OOC:
The terminal is a the far end of the corridor you've just emerged into. The map below shows you where you've started (on the left) and where the terminal is (on the right).

Do you walk past all the other doors, straight down the corridor, and start working on the keycard terminal? Or do you check out anything along the way? I'll keep the roll you just made for when you do try and hack it - just wanted to check you understood the layout, @SenorDeebs, and do indeed want to go straight for the terminal to open the door?

OOC:
Oooh! Yes that changes things. Sigg will wait to check out the layout of the corridor and allow the tougher members of the party to see if it is safe.
‘I can try and hack that terminal… ‘
Feb 8, 2024 3:00 pm
OOC:
Ah, great. Sounds good.

If your STRESS level goes up by the time you get to the Terminal, I'll ask you to roll additional STRESS dice.

And this will be a HARD hack to carry out, as they have some solid security on that door, so I would have made set roll with a -2 dice. When you get to the terminal, I'll give you a choice of either fully re-rolling, or of rolling a d7 twice (or more times if you roll the same number twice, until you roll two different numbers) to choose two of the dice from your initial roll as the ones that wouldn't have been rolled if you'd gone with the -2
Feb 8, 2024 3:02 pm
OOC:
Or, as this is survival horror, maybe I should have said "If you manage to survive long enough to get to the terminal" CUE EVIL LAUGHTER
Feb 8, 2024 3:17 pm
OOC:
Whew. A lot to process this morning.

Rolls

Mobility (Agility) - (3d6)

(344) = 11

Stress dice - (3d6)

(356) = 14

OOC:
Sorry it was a lot for you, @McButterpants, with you down with the flu at the moment. I'll aim to go slower until you're feeling better. I know I can often find it really hard to dig through a long list of posts to make my own, particularly when I'm not feeling well.

If any of you get that feeling anytime, I'm very happy to give you a quick recap of the important action to make it easier for you to get back into things.

Hannah moves to point after her companions' harsh words. Her body language clearly showing that she hasn't quite given up.

"What do you know about debt, Holroyd.", she says under her breath.

After they reach the second floor, she watches as Sigg makes a b-line towards the crew quarters.

She shakes her head and checks the door to the Administrator's office.
OOC:
If the door is open, Hannah will go in and search for the keycard.

Singleton makes her way quietly into the office. It's typical corporate desk jockey fare in here - seems like even the colony supervisor doesn't get anything fancy when it comes to décor and furniture.

Reynolds is sitting quietly in her chair, facing away from the door. Her head is down, and looks like she may have fallen asleep.

In the ceiling of the room, a small ventilation grill has been battered free, and the vent itself is twisted as if whatever exited it could barely fit through the space.
OOC:
Do you continue searching through the office, @microtheMacroBear/Singleton? Or do you change your plan now you see that Reynolds is in here?

Does amyone else join Singleton in the office, or call out to Reynolds, or do something else?

Morgan hurriedly follows Singleton. "Hey," he calls. "Hey! Stick together. No going off alone."

He moves up beside her, falling into a steady but cautious pace like he's back in the military, weapon ready.

When she heads into the office, he does a quick sweep of the room, looking for anything out of place, and then stays near the door covering their exit.

Sigg stays outside of the office, behind Hirsch and Singleton. He remains alert.

BeardHare says:
OOC:
Sorry it was a lot for you, @McButterpants
OOC:
@BeardHare no need to apologize. I just needed some time tonight to re-read the posts. I made the mistake of checking the thread while I was still half-asleep.
Janice follows Hannah into the office. Reynolds! Thank God! We were worried you were already on your way off this rock. Have you seen what happened in housing? We need to get the hell out of here. Janice notices the ventilation grill and moves into the room slowly.
OOC:

Despite there now being three of you in the office, despite Macwhirr speaking to her, Reynolds remains unmoving in her chair.
OOC:
Do any of you go up to Reynolds, maybe touch her to try and get her attention, move around to look directly at her?

Holroyd stands speechless at Singleton's barb against him. Of course he know much of the factual concepts of debt, but he recognizes the rhetorical sense of her question - it was true, he knew nothing of financial debt, as he had no need for finances. He would have been just as comfortable remaining in the tractor halfway between here and Processor 9 as he is now. He needs no water, food, or shelter.

He follows the others silently, the service pistol aimed down at his side, but waits outside the office as they check on the man in the chair, watching to see what happens.

Hannah ignores Hirsch as she moves into the room. Behind her Janice bursts out a relieved greeting to Reynolds, then Hannah hears her foot falls slow. She matches MacWhirr's pace.

"Reynolds", Hannah says circling the desk. She creeps sideways keeping as far away from both the air shaft and Reynolds as possible. Her gun is half raised but she is ready to shoot if the need arises.

"Reynolds", She says again as the Administrator's front comes into view.
OOC:
Hannah is trying to keep close to the wall as she goes around the desk to see what's wrong with Reynolds.
Feb 9, 2024 12:02 pm
Singleton pushes herself up against the wall as she moves deeper into the office - keeping as far from the air shaft as possible.

As she moves around so that she can see Reynolds face, she's confronted with yet another moment of horror.

Reynold's neck and face are a bloody mess. There's a hole in the centre of her face - Singleton can see some light at the base of the hole. It looks like something blasted through her face from the front, and then went clean through Reynold's skull and out the back. The light Singleton sees is filtering through the hair on the back of Reynold's head.

And it seems like something has ripped open Reynolds neck - some kind of razor-sharp ripping motions have left it a mangled ruin.

A Weyland-Yutani lanyard hangs around what's left of Reynold's neck, a keycard hanging from the end of it.
OOC:
Singleton takes +1 STRESS on being confronted by this horrific sight.

EDIT Ah, but also, I forgot to note that Singleton interacted with her Signature Item i.e. a toy dinosaur. You can interact once per session (in this case, once in the entire game, as it's run as a one-session/one-shot) with your Signature Item to reduce your STRESS level by 1. So based on that, no net change in Singleton's STRESS level here.
Feb 12, 2024 12:43 pm
Breathing through her nose, Singleton reaches out and uncle's the blood slicked keycard from the former Administrator. As soon as she has it she snatches her hand back clutching the card to her chest.

She turns and looks at Janice saying, "I need those documents. I am being hunted by very very bad individuals. If I don't get them to those people, I might as well not get on the shuttle. Do I have your word that we'll be able to get them?"

Singleton reaches into the morass of Reynolds fluids - and solids - that lie around the keycard. As she takes it in her hands, she can feel that it is cracked, and broken. She knows from experience that a card in this state is very unlikely to work any more.

As Singleton reaches in for the card, she notices a small hand-held comms device on the desk, spattered with Reynold's blood. A light on it is blinking, which means that another device is attempting to take a call through to this device.
OOC:
Singleton/@microtheMacroBear takes +1 STRESS LEVEL for forcing herself to take the keycard through Reynold's gore.
Feb 13, 2024 5:48 am
Don't worry Hannah. We just need to find out what's going on. Once we've figured things out, we'll make a plan to get your documents. Janice tries to smile, but the stress of the situation keeps it from her eyes. Besides, we're not getting far without a pilot.
