Chapter 4: The Waters of Menehune

load previous
Mar 21, 2024 4:24 am
Big Cordey drops his light crossbow toy from his hands, and it is replaced by a cutlass from his side. He attacks the Sahagun Captain that was attacking Taresh, the monk circus performer, with all his might against the Captain. Keeping a hand free to balance himself. He is very much trying to capture the Captain's attention. Unfortunately, Cordey nearly lost balance in doing so.
OOC:
I show Cordey with 1 point of SD left. Does he have 4? And I show he is off 7 points of damage from a dagger. Have I missed an update time for him. Don't know if a 15 hits or not.

Completely unfazed by the rocking of the boat, Admiral nimbly navigates the crowded skiff and leaps into the pontoon where he lunges at the other Sahuagin (S3) while Cordey takes care of the captain.

Cordey's cutlass lands true into the Sahuagin captain (S2) despite Cordey's slight off balance caused by the rocking boat. (damage 9).

Jin's lightning continues to arc between him and the same Sahuagin (S2) causing the creature even more pain. (damage 2).

Admiral steadying himself, at home on a rocking boat, easily lands a blow with Reaver on the other Sahuagin (S3). The blade severs one of the creatures shoulder blades. (damage 14).

The Sahuagin (S3) returns Admiral's attack and lunges at him with it claws and bite. Admiral gets slashed by the creature's claws. (5 damage) But when the creature moves in to take a bite as well, Admiral defty grabs a hold of the creature's head. (OOC: Due to the creature's bite attack crit fail, Admiral may automatically grapple if he desires and deal maximum damage to his next attack against the creature. Note: A grapple would replace one of Admiral's multiple attacks.)

The other remaining Sahuagin (S4) finally makes it to the skiff, and leaps out of the water onto the front of the skiff, hurling a spear at Jin, who holds his captain in the lighting grasp. The spear grazes Jin (2 damage), but the magician is able to keep his lighting arc focused on the Sahuagin captain.

Taresh (T) , who fell from the boat into the water after being attacked by two Sahuagin, successively fights losing consciousness and swims to the surface of the water near the skiff.

As sahaugin succumb to the group's attacks, Regan begins wondering how the conflict with the hag will go... but in the moment, he tries to focus on the immediate threat even as the boat continues rocking. Leaning to the side, Regan swings with his warhammer at the fish-like being beside them.

Under Admiral's firm collar grasp, the struggling Sahuagin captain (S2) remains pinned. His attempts to break free keep the boat rocking, which along with his struggles causes Reaver to miss jabbing the creature.

But with Admiral pinning the creature Cordey is able to land a solid swipe at the captain despite the awkwardness of the rocking boat. (S2: 10 damage)

Sahuagin 3, bleeding out from his severely wounded shoulder, apparently ignores his wounds and rushes Regan. First he swipes a claw trying to penetrate a open spot in the knight's armor, then he lunges for a bite out of Regan's neck. But Regan deftly knocks aside both attempts.

Sahuagin 4 sees the blood dripping from Jin's spear wound that he just inflicted and is overcome by a blood frenzy. He rushes toward Jin (rocking the boat more), pulls the spear from the magician, and tries to lunge it into him again. Jin side steps the main force of the spear, and it only lodges into a piece of his light leather. It's enough for the Sahuagin to pull Jin close on the pole and then the creature sinks his tooth fulled maw into Jin's shoulder. (Jin 5: damage)

This time the conflict breaks Jin's concentration on the lightning arc.

Regan's Warhammer responds quickly after Jin gets bit and slams into Sahuagin 4. (15 damage).

From the water outside the boat, Taresh tries to grab the leg of Sahuagin 4 and pull him into the pool. He manages to get a hold of the creature when it's off blance from Regan's blow and it plummets into the water beside Taresh.

Mischa puts her hands to her temples and concentrates. She intently focuses on the Sahuagin who falls into the water. It gives off an anguished sounding guttural choke as it lands lifeless. (S4: 7 damage)

Appearing particularly light on his feet Regan pivots, able to use the rock of the boat to leap over a seat as it dips, and takes a swing at the Sahaugin that Cordey is engaged with.

Admiral releases the Sahuagin and stumbles back a step, stopping just shy of falling into the water. He takes two rather clumsy swings at the fish monster, but seems more focused on not getting wet than the battle at hand.

Regan pivots. His warhammer delivers a heavy final blow that puts an end to the Sahuagin guard captain. The captain's lifeless mass falls from the boat and splashes into the water and Cordey shifts his attention to the other Sahuagin. The half-sea elf's cutlass slices the skull of the last Sahuagin guarding the pool. It falls onto the boat between Jin and Admiral. Admiral regaining his balance, involuntarily steps on the fallen creature's wide finned tail, which steadies him. The creature's head lands next to where Mischa sits in the boat and dark strangely hued blood oozes from a large gash. Mischa screams at the sight.

Taresh swims to the bank to the starboard side of the skiff.

Big Cordey, "Least these will pose no problems again." Cordey is ready to leave. He has no sympathy for them.

Admiral says, "We probably ought to get out and walk from here. If we want to return the skiff to Martin in one piece, I don’t think we should try to sail it through a waterfall." His whiskers twitch as he regards the waterfall speculatively. "...Although, I've never actually sailed a boat through a waterfall before. It could be fun! ...We would certainly get very wet though." He shudders at the thought.

Feel free to keep roleplaying or conspire OOC. I'll wait to see what you decide.
Jin looks disappointed that his frilled white shirt is stained with his own blood from his shoulder and the purple vest that covers it is torn. He tries to wipe away some blood but it smears.

Somewhat frustrated Jin suggests, "If you do leave the boat out here perhaps my troop and I should remain and keep it safe."

"I should go with Admiral to take care of the hag. He helped Misha and I escape from Jahore. The monk did too." She looks over at Taresh who rests calmly on the bank.

"If you do Tas, then I'll go with you," replies Jin firmly. "Caspian, you should stay with Mischa and watch the boat."

"But you are wounded Jin." rebuts Caspian.

"I'll be okay. Protect Mischa and don't let anything happen to this boat. It's the ticket back to our ship." asserts Jin.

"As you wish ringmaster." concedes the Rakasta strongman.

"Be careful. All of you," pleas Mischa looking around at her troop as well as Admiral, Cordey, and Regan.
Apr 5, 2024 2:09 pm
"Protecting the vessel is wise... after all, the kids' swimming hole isn't our original goal. We still have work to do once we deal with this hag," Regan says as he steps off the boat. "Captain? Cordey? We should get moving."
Apr 5, 2024 5:23 pm
"We should get moving." as he cleans off his cutlass and puts the toy away.
