OOC:
Okay, PCs have the initiative. (Except one thing first...let me make a quick Athletics roll for Regan to knock aside the seaweed's grapple attempt.)

Rolls

Seaweed Sentinel: Grapple (Dex) - (1d20-1)

(15) - 1 = 14

Regan: Break Seaweed's Grapple (Str) - (1d20+4)

(19) + 4 = 23

Apr 22, 2024 1:58 am
Regan responds quickly to the shooting seaweed tendrils that attempt to take hold of him. He knocks the bulk of them aside and breaks away from the few that latch on to him, leaving him free to retaliate. The rest of the group are quickly alerted by the sentinel's sudden action.

Stifling a surprised laugh as the seaweed douses Regan, Admiral fires an eldritch blast into the tangle of living weeds.
OOC:
Assuming it’s been less than an hour still since that first Sahuagin fight, I would like to move Hex to the seaweed sentinel and attack it with an eldritch blast. If it’s been more than an hour, ignore the extra hex damage.

…Not that it makes much of a difference :P

Cordey steps up and slices the seaweed clumps that attempted to regroup after Regan knocked them aside. (Seaweed: 7 damage)

As the doused torch hits the cave floor, Regan's hammer lands a solid hit on the seaweed mass. (Seaweed: 17 magic damage.)

Enhanced by a hex curse, Admiral's blast simultaneously blasts into the seaweed tangle. (Seaweed: 3 damage)

Jin, who is with Tasya closer to the cave's entrance, extends his hand and points a finger at the seaweed. (Jin: attack advantage next turn)

The seaweed sputters as the party's blows and blast hit it. It heaves backward and then two menacing clumps of tendrils shoot out between Regan and Cordey and attempt to wrap around Tasya and Jin. Tasya dodges the long tendrils. But Jin is entangled and struggles while the seaweed squeezes the wind out of him. (Jin: 11 damage.)

Admiral scowls as he sees that his eldritch blast barely singed the seaweed. He’s still getting the hang of this magic thing... Maybe he should stick to swords. Drawing the Defender Shortsword with his free hand and wielding Reaver with the other, he slashes at the tendrils entangling Jin. Much better!

Noticing the tendrils had wrapped up one of the Captain's people, Regan bashes the vines in an attempt to force them to release Jin.

Reaver fiercely cuts into the extended tendrils that entangle Jin (Seaweed:13 damage) causing tendrils to loosen their grip on him, allowing the magician to pull out his dagger and swipe the tendrils that still hold him (Seaweed:6 damage).

Cordey skillfully makes a critical slice through the seaweed hulk (Seaweed:10 damage).

Regan notices Jin's entanglement and bashes the vines in an attempt to force them to release. But the tendrils that keep a hold seem determined to continue their grasp on the magician and ignore the bludgeon of Regan's hammer.

Tasya takes advantage of the commotion and slips back toward the wall. She quickly and stealthily shimmies toward the main mass of the sentinel and attempts to lodge her dagger deep into its slimy bulk. But at the last moment the seaweed reacts to her presence and sends a tendril out that pushes her to the floor.

The sentinel then swings the same tendril around to attack Regan and keep him engaged instead of trying to free Jin. But the creature's attempt is unsuccessful at getting a hold of Regan. Tendrils slip off his armor as he dodges them.

After throwing Tasya to the floor the main bulk of the seaweed mass seems to ooze and become temporarily less of a solid substance.

As a result, Cordey's cutlass slips through a particularly oozy area of the seaweed and has no damaging effect to the sentinel.

Similarly, Regan's bludgeon is absorbed into the massive pile of soft weed, doing no damage to the sentinel.

The only parts of the seaweed that remain tangible are the flailing tendril that put down Tasya and the other holding Jin.

JIn manages to cut away at the tendrils holding him just enough to break free from their hold. (Seaweed:5 damage)

Tasya, her bottom side toward the floor, quickly raises herself on all fours and executes a determined reverse crawl back toward the cave entrance. In one swift agile motion, she jumps to her feet and heaves her dagger at the seaweed. Her dagger disappears deep into the oozing seaweed bulk. (Seaweed:8 damage)

Admiral focusing on the tendril that grappled JIn slices into it with Reaver (Seaweed:14 damage). He then tries to follow through with another swipe with the Defender Blade, but the other tendril whips in and knocks the blade away from its mark.

The same tendril that deflects the Defender Blade then lashes out at Admiral, who quickly responds by ducking under its attack.

Simultaneously a third tendril shoots out from the currently soft seaweed mass at Regan who sees it coming and bats it away with his hammer.
