REGAN
Regan's hammer contacts the hound near the boy with a booming blast that sends it backward five feet becoming sheathed in visible energy. The other two hounds squeal when Regan's hammer hit the first. Though they are on different sides of the slab they all stop in their tracks on the boom.

OOC:

Regan deals 22 damage and the hounds all seem to be affected by the energy sheath holding the first back. The rest of the party on the slab gets advantage to attacks due to the momentary hesitation of the hindered hounds.

The party seizes the opportunity opened by Regan's boom that hinders the eelhound advance:

Cordey whips his cutlass in twin arcs, the first carving a gouge across an eel-hound’s flank while the second whistles harmlessly through the mist. 6 damage Group 2

Taresh pivots and snaps his goblin staff twice in rapid succession, cracking ribs with each monk-swift strike. 13 damage Group 2:

Rowan darts in low, his short-sword sinking deep on the first thrust before the follow-up skids off thick slick scales. 6 damage Group 2

Tasya flicks one dagger into hounds neck, then sends a second spinning to bury itself with pinpoint force in the beast already trembling under Regan’s booming strike. 34 damage Group 2

Jin fires twin Eldritch Blasts, each bolt thundering into a hound’s side in quick succession. 25 damage Group 2

OOC:

Regan and the Party deal a total of 106 damage. Group 2 has 50 HP left

The party hits hard, but amazingly a single hound does NOT drop, despite the massive amount of damage inflicted. Instead the hounds retaliate in unison!

REGAN
The eel-hounds surge as one to counterattack, but the moment the beasts lunge the crackling shell around the one Regan hit detonates—thunder rolling across the slab in a blinding blue flash. The shockwave hammers through the linked hounds, scales vibrating and mist billows outward in rippling rings. The beasts stagger, but heedlessly push through with coordinated ferocity.

OOC:

The hounds are damaged by the booming energy as they move to attack. Taking 32 damage, the group has 18 HP left.

REGAN
A ridged tail whips across Taresh’s flank, the follow-up bite gouging deep, yet the monk stays on his feet. (Taresh 10 Damage)

Jin twists aside in a blur of cloak and sparks, slipping through snapping jaws and a barbed tail with a grin.

But another hound barrels past Tasya and Regan—its maw finds what they shield; a wet crunch and a strangled scream from the boy is heard; the boy falls slack. Silence hangs for a heartbeat before Tasya’s cry of anguish cuts through the jungle, raw and echoing off the ledge. Rowan, realizing what had happen nearly drops his blade but forces himself to hold onto it due to the frothing bloody jaws of the still very active beast near the fallen child.

(Boy takes 19 damage and now has -10 HP. His max HP is 10. So sadly he is no more. )

Mischa, who had been concentrating on mentally guiding the Mantas down to the jungle floor to help Khyree, gets her concentration broken by Tasya's scream. When Mischa loses her connection to them the magical beasts fly off.

Meanwhile below, Khyree's glowing wings can be seen flying once again. At the sound of the boy's strangled scream followed by Tasya's cry of anguish, her figure turns from a decent aimed at an oncoming group of hounds on the jungle floor toward an arc back upward to the slab.

Tasya's scream, though distant, is heard by Admiral, echoing off trees and ledges in the jungle as he continues to move nimbly from one branch to the next, traversing the canopy as fast as he can.

Admiral nearly slips off a branch as Tasya’s scream echoes through the jungle. He glances back over his shoulder to see what’s happened but it’s difficult to make sense of the commotion through the fog and the foliage. Cursing under his breath, he presses on, grimly determined.

Upon hearing Tasya's scream and redoubling his pace through the canopy Admiral hears a rage charged bellow echo through the jungle. He just can make out the words, "ADMIRAL! I WANT THAT BOGGLE ALIVE!" He recognizes the tone despite it being filtered and bounced off many surfaces...Regan.

REGAN
Regan's rage induced attack lands true, once again encompassing his target in a sheath of hindering energy. Once again the other two hounds also seem hindered by their companion's plight. But that is a moot point this time because Regan's thunderous single attack causes enough pain to deprive the trio of linked eelhound predators of there collective lifeforce. The slab is free of attackers...at the moment...

The next wave of four hounds begin their climb up the ledge just as the other three fall lifeless.

Khyree lands on the slab and sees what has happened to the child. Rage fills her eyes.

OOC:

You will get another turn before the next group makes it up the ledge onto the slab. Remember you get advantage on ranged attacks when the hounds are not on the slab since the mist outlines the movment of oncoming hounds in the night time jungle.

ADMIRAL
Admiral maintains a focused, good pace and agile maneuvering through the canopy. But then...

When leaping to a next branch, a shimmer of light resolves into a lattice of woven leaves and glowing fireflies ahead. Tiny lances glint; a dozen or more sprites astride jewel-bright dragonflies with glowing wings hover ahead of him, acorn helms cocked in stern inquiry. The captain, all three inches of beetle-shell armor, levels a porcupine-quill spear.

"Tithe of stories, whiskered trespasser," the sprite declares, voice like wind-chimes. "Three breaths, no more. Pay, or be tangled ‘til morning."

Before Admiral can shift his weight, a dozen more dart out from the shadows, weaving a glowing ring around him—lances of porcupine quill leveled, wings humming like crystal saws.

OOC:

Rolled to see if the boggle could understand the echo of Regan words. The roll deteremines that it does not and therefore is not alerted to Admiral's advance by Regan's bellow.

With no eel hounds on the platfom itself, Regan sees a group slinking forward and uses his blasts of raw mystic energy to soften them up before the beasts can make it up the stairs.

Admiral scrambles to a stop as he finds himself surrounded by tiny warriors on dragonfly-back. He blinks, confused, then shakes his head. He doesn’t have time for fairy games right now. "Listen, matey, I’m sorry for climbing through your tree, but I’ve got no time for riddles. My friends are in trouble. There’s a boggle controlling those eelhounds down there and I’ve got to stop him before the hounds kill my friends."

The dragonflies circle closer, their wings strongly flapping, and the sprites’ lances dip until the barbed points nearly touch Admiral’s whiskers. The captain’s voice remains chimelike but now carries a more steely tone:

"Urgency is no coin. Stories are," the captain says, firmly. "Pay the tithe—three breaths, bright and true—or we bind you fast."

Around the ring, two dozen acorn helmets nod in perfect time; threads of spider-silk lash between branches, ready to snap tight at a signal. Yet the captain’s lantern-bright eyes narrow with curiosity rather than cruelty.

"Boggle? Did you say?" inquisitively asks the sprite. Then looking at his tiny warriors, all readied to arms, he collects his authoritative composure and asserts, "Pah—filthy ink-goblins who’d sooner dribble slime than spin a tale."

You may roll persuasion (with disadvantage) if you would have Admiral assert his case.

REGAN

Regan's blasts hit a hound scraping nimbly up the ledge. (12 damage-Group 3)

Khyree let's out a barbarian battle cry uncharacteristic of her monk status but unquestionably suiting to her natural demeanor. Her cry is followed by a cone of fire that shoots from her mouth at the climbing hounds. (6 damage-Group 3)

Cordey recovers his crossbow, loads it, and fires a bolt in one swift maneuver. (CRIT 22 damage-Group 3)

Jin unleashes a pair of Eldritch blasts. (14 damage-Group 3)

Taresh aims a firebolt at ascending attackers. (CRIT 22 damage-Group 3)

Mischa sinks behind Tasya who pulls herself away from the fallen child and rushes to the edge of the slab to furiously hurl daggers at the closest beast clawing its way up. (9 damage-Group 3)
