Chapter 10 - Is it a heist, if we bought it?

"Listen," Creds says to the others in a near-whisper. "I understand there's bad blood 'tween y'all and these Yiyars." He pats his shoulder. "I feel the sting, too. But jacking their ship's likely to open a can of sand skitters. If all's we want's to keep 'em from having access to the ship, I can sue 'em in Lianna court. That'll likely send the ship into impound if it hasn't been impounded already. But if you want the ship for some reason, I'll have to put some more thought into how to get the datawork all straight..."
OOC:
Just some more thoughts on the idea if the goal is to deprive them of the ship rather than steal it for ourselves.

OOC:
That sounds hilarious.

'What about sticking a tracker on it. Give us a warning if it ever shows up near us again?'
Aug 17, 2024 4:16 pm
"Can we attempt both tactics?" AD-Hoc ask
Aug 17, 2024 5:15 pm
"Well, first question is where is the ship, and what do the Lianna police intend to do with it? If there's criminal prosecution happening already, it may already be in impound. Suing'd only be a delaying tactic, as I don't think I intend to stay planetside here for the months a case might take. But it's worth looking into, I s'pose."

"Well, looks like we're about loaded up here. You want me to send the droids to your ship with the crate?" Niic motions to the loaded crate containing the cybernetic related gear that Reom was after.

'Sure, we'll escort it. Make sure it gets there. Then maybe we'll head back to Isotech after we've made sure those Yiyar are out of action.'

The droids load the crate on to a repulsor skiff and you ride back to the spaceport with them. The loading is straight forward and it's just a short walk to where you encountered the Yiyar ship yesterday. It's where you last saw it, with the holographic police tape around the ship. It appears to have an impound clamp on the docking gear and the ramp is up.

"Let me whip up a quick suit against these fellas and file it in court," Creds says, pulling out his legal datapad. "That'll at least tie 'em up longer than they'd like."
OOC:
Assuming we're not angling to actually get the ship (as that would require likely months of staying on planet), I'll have Creds make a Knowledge: Education check to sue them for damages, a suit he knows he won't be able to follow up on in person, but which maybe we can check in on periodically as he files more datawork from afar? Might be another justification for his "Sound Investments" talent.

OOC:
Are we likely to have anything to make an encrypted transponder Ken can stick on the ship?
Aug 27, 2024 2:43 am
OOC:
That sounds like an AD-HOC question. There's always the crafting rules.
Creds pulls on an pair of odd-looking goggles and begins poking at his datapad. "Let me just draw up the papers... Before long, the Yiyar Clan will face a suit that'll tie 'em up for months..."
OOC:
Using data goggles and legal datapad (+1 success, +1 boost). Setback for unfamiliar legal system.

Looks like with the data goggles +1 success, that's a net +1 success.

OOC:
oh yeah, sorry, no trackers. I dont think we have any parts to make one on the ship. If you think its a good idea, we can flip a Destiny Point to get one quickly.

Creds draws up and submits his lawsuit. It's a Civil case, since the defendant is dead. But claiming damages and citing the ship as the only real property attached to the defendant should tie it up for a while. With the cargo loaded, it looks like your ready to head out.
OOC:
Let me know if you want to flip a DP for the tracker or not.

Ken spends a few minutes crashing around the Slippery Ghest picking up assorted pieces of electronics and disconnecting essential parts of the ship until AD-hoc explains to him that a long-range tracking transponder requires several expensive pieces of equipment that they don't have.

'Sometimes I wonder what you're for,' he mutters under his breath. But once the ship is ready to fly he cheers up and hits the bar to make up some 'takeoff' cocktails.

The return trip to Iso-One is routine and once there. Norta unloads the crates and provides you with your 5000cr. credsticks.
OOC:
Looks like that's a wrap on that one. 20xp for the adventure. It's a holiday weekend for me, I'll be traveling this afternoon and should be back Tuesday evening. Hope everyone else that's having a holiday this weekend has a great one!
