Dirt grunts, and then seeing that the vampires weren’t put down yet, he winces and waits for them to begin their thrashing anew!

Kane will have to spend the round reloading his black powder Sharps Big 50. For some reason, the stat block on your pregen is incomplete, and the Sharps has three Reload 3 property. You can make at most three actions in a round, so it takes a full round without moving to reload it. Or you can combine that with an action at the normal Multi Action penalties to fire and reload (partially) in one round.

The vampires continues to savage DD and Dirt Briggs, committed to mindless feral rage.

That's three more wounds on DD by vampire fangs, surely a fatal attack, unless she can soak those 3.

Her clothes and the flesh or her arms and chest already half-torn to shreds by the vampire’s horrific attack, Delilah screams and tries to scramble back from her attacker, but the creature stays on her, slashing and clawing and gnashing. Blood sprays and the never-quite-a-marshal gurgles and falls silent…
OOC:
Spending the final Benny to try and soak some wounds. BTW, is it three, or two? She has Toughness 5. Perhaps it’s three because she’s already Shaken?

Either way, Goodnight Irene!

Dirt can see that the woman is about to be overcome, and tries to throw his attacker off! If he can get to the Marshal, he can distract the beasts for a second and let her up.

"Marshal!" he calls, even as he fires his guns into the thing in front of him!

"Hold on, Marshal! I’m coming!" he cries, making a break for her even though he had just whiffed both shots!

The smoking vampire tears out into the night, screeching in agony.

The other one, having gotten a taste of Dirt's blood is about to attack when the priest steps forward brandishing a cross. "Back fiend, by the power of the Christ I command thee."

It stumbles backwards and with a snarl circles the man, waiting for a chance to kill and eat the priest.

Each of you are up again. Except DD, she's gone. 🪦

Having reloaded his Sharps, Kane noticed his hands weren't as steady as he's used to. The vampires had rattled him as did the death of DD.

"Bastards!" he shouted as he aimed for the heart of him before he could get to the priest.

"A little late to the party, Padre!" Dirt complains, dusting himself off and wincing at his wounds.

He rushes to the fallen Marshal’s side then, and starts shaking her awake.

"Come on now, Marshal!" he pleads. He had no great relationship with the woman, but she was a good woman, and tried to do right. More right than Dirt ever did, and the man couldn’t help but think that it should have been him laying cold.

Ruby kneels down and tries to find a pulse on the fallen sheriff. Nothing. Ruby shakes her head. "She's gone. She deserved better. Father, will you perform Last Rites?"

"She never got a chance to be Marshall. Damn shame, damn shame." Kane laments as he removes his hat and holds it to his chest.

"Rest in peace, Marshal Delilah Dillon."
May 2, 2024 2:42 pm
The priest says, "Many will need it tonight, child, but I'll tend to her now."

He lays her flat on her back, and closes her eyes. "I commend you, my dear sister, to Almighty God, and entrust you to your Creator. May you return to him who formed you from the dust of the earth. May holy Mary, the angels, and all the saints come to meet you as you go forth from this life. May Christ who was crucified for you bring you freedom and peace."

Outside, the battle rages but soon you hear the shouts turn more triumphant and then screams of horror and grief begin in earnest. The dark locomotive blasts its screeching whistle and chugs off down the tracks.

As the citizens gather in the streets, you hear the terrifying news.

"They took Mary-Lou!

Them fiends drug off my pappy!

Both my kids, they got my kids, oh lord protect them!"

Out of all, only the four, now three of you killed any, responsible for eight dead vampires.

Deputy Parish, covered in blood and his left arm hanging limply, approaches you. "They got Knaggs? Oh you saved him. Hell, I'd have traded him for anyone else. You did what I asked, let's get back to the jail, and get him locked up. I'll pay you your fee too. I wish I had more money, but maybe the town will raise a collection. A bounty on those fiends, and for everyone brought back. Go on, get to the jail and him locked up, I'll meet you back."

Dirt folds the woman’s arms across her chest; if for nothing else than to hide some of the gashes carved into the woman by the beasts.

Dirt could spit on the fee in that moment, but keeps quiet on the matter. He stands, and dusts himself off.

"I guess we know why the last stop was so damned quiet." is all he can say; knowing that the Marshal had tried her damnedest to put it all together.

"You really got it in for this guy. I hope you've got some iron-clad evidence against him. We'll take him back, but you be ready with that money." Before taking him back, however, Ruby stoops by one of the piles of ash that are the vampire remains and scoops up a bottle's worth. She holds it up and explains, "Vampire ash. A potent ingredient indeed." She packs it away and turns to the others. "Let's get this show on the road then."
May 5, 2024 5:30 pm
"Potent ingredient for what, if you don't mind me askin', Ruby?"

He agreed with the woman about the deputy's level of dedication when it came to keeping Knaggs contained.

"We'll be wantin' that money you owe us, as the lady said, deputy.

Sam Varney comes out of his shop, thumbing cartridges into his double barrel shotgun.

When Deputy Parrish explains what he's said, Varney sweetens the pot. "A bounty of $20 from his own pocket for every citizen of Varney Flats they bring back alive."

Before negotiations get too involved, the deputy stresses if the train gets too much of a lead the heroes may never overtake it. Then he swallows deeply and says, "I’m goin’ with you." From the look in his eyes, the deputy cannot be dissuaded.

When your posse accepts the town’s offer, Parrish tells you the tracks curve to the north about four miles out of town. If you leave immediately and cut across the prairie, you may be able to catch it by cutting the curve.

"I'm not sure yet, never had vampire ash before. But something alchemical for sure. There's an underlying theory that the stronger the foe, the more potent the alchemical result. I'm going to experiment and find out. But that's for another day. If we want to rescue these villagers we best get moving quick."
