Kane rolls his eyes. He almost tells the rev to save his breath but he supposes they can use any advantage they can get, and what was the harm in it anyway?

"I think those creatures don't like the light so maybe we stay away from the windowless car."

He shouts only loud enough to be heard by the group, then wishes he hadn't for he had heard tell that vampires have much better hearing than mortals, if you believed all that hocus pocus. But weren't they confronting those very monsters now, and hadn't they seen them in the flesh or whatever it was that held their bones together? They existed alright, and it was up to their group to destroy them he thinks, as he holds onto anything that allows him to keep his balance on the swaying train car.

Ruby looks between the freight car and the passenger car. Which way? She will put her ear to each car and see if she can hear anything over the sound of the train that will give her a clue.

Dirt waves a hand downwards, indicating for the others to hush, as he presses his ear to the carriages on either side!

"Hush up, will ya? I think I hear something!"

Wide-eyed and still clinging on for dear life, the Reverend waits to hear what Dirt has to say...

Traveling all day and busy as I return. Proceed apace with the Reverend supporting!

Ruby can't heard anything over the screams of the Ghostrock engine or the clacking of the train on the rails.

From the freight car, Briggs picks up numerous wails and sobs between them other sounds, plus a few snarls. He thinks the bulk if not all of the townsfolk are in there, but there are a couple vampires in there as well. He hears nothing from the sleeper car

"Dirt, whacha hearin'?" Kane asks, then turning to the reverend and offering a hand to the terrified man. "If you put your boots here, you're less likely to plunge to your death, but I imagine your God will protect ya," he says, pointing to an area that will afford a less precarious position.

The freight car with all the townsfolk is at the back of the train. Any way to disconnect it from the rest and let it slow to a stop?
"Townsfolk sound to be in here." he half-mimes to the others. He’s suddenly concerned with being quiet, so that they might surprise the vampires inside.

"They’ve got company, if you know what I mean." he says, motioning to his weapon.

He stoops down carefully, checking if there’s any way to remove this carriage from the rest of the train.

It's time, then. They've found not just the vampires, but the people they stole, the God-fearing folk of... that town where the Reverend conducted his sermons every Sunday.

"Lord God Almighty!" the man of the cloth beseeches, "Bless the aim and the iron of these here heroes! The souls of good Christians are at risk here tonight, so guide our hands and steel our hearts, God Above!"

He then nods to the others to let them know he's ready, and he cocks back both hammers on Dillon's shotgun...
OOC:
Anything to be done inspiring people or getting God's blessin' woth Faith or the like? Regardless, he's for busting into the car second!

Disconnecting the train is possible. However, while the train is moving there is significant tension in the couplers, and unhitching the freight car would be a Strength roll at -4. It will also be a noisy affair.
OOC:
The Reverend can assist by lending his fiery holy words.

Are there any helping rules?

Sometimes characters may want to cooperate or help an ally with a task. If so, and the GM decides it’s possible, supporting characters roll the relevant skill (on their action if the game is in rounds) and declare which of their ally’s skills they’re attempting to Support.

Success grants the ally +1 to one skill total this round, and a raise adds +2. A Critical Failure on the support roll subtracts 2 from the lead’s total—sometimes extra hands just get in the way!

Note: the assistance skill doesn't have to be the same as the tested skill, of it makes sense otherwise. If you're rolling Strength to assist, you won't apply the -4 to your assistance roll.

Hmmmmm… that roll seems doomed to fail! Maybe we just burst in, sprayin’ and prayin’ until they’re all dead?
"Damn! This thing will take an arm off, if we don’t do it right! We can’t risk it, I don’t think!"

He stands back up and rubs the grease and dust from his fingers! He holds up his weapons, and nods to the others.

"The old fashioned way then?"

"Ready when you all are!" Out comes the Sharps Big 50. Kane is ready for some serious vampire slaying business.

"Ready, Padre? Ms. Reyes?" he asks, just about ready to throw open the door and let Kane loose with his weapon.
May 28, 2024 3:18 am
"Let's go in with a bang. So to speak." Ruby pulls out a flask of holy water. "I'll toss this as soon as you open the door. More as a distraction than hoping to hit anything, but fingers crossed!"

Reverend James Turner had been ready to plead with God above that they be able to successfully separate the train cars, but suddenly the plan is to go in blasting. The preacher could get behind that idea as well, and he nods once at Briggs as the man times their assault.

I won't roll surprise, it's difficult even if you make serious noise. Instead, you have The Drop (The Drop adds +4 to a character’s attack and damage rolls against that target for one action).

You open the door and inside, you see the shadowy forms of the townsfolk, but they're are four vampires feasting on two of them.

Ruby hurls her last flask of holy water at the two vamps feasting on some poor souls.

Ruby hits a vampire square in the forehead, and the jar shatters, covering it and spraying a second.

The two vamps shriek and run backwards, hitting the far end of the freight car and closing at their face skin.

Dirt bursts into the room, and levels his pistols at the crowd, quickly scanning for vamps among the townsfolk!

He spots them, and trains both pistols on a different vampire. He aims for the heart, hoping to end two of them while they have the drop on them!
OOC:
Going to take the +4 and counteract it with a -4 called shot for the heart!
OOC:
I’ll Benny the first roll!
