Oh awesome!
"Space pirates! I bet they're here to destroy the gate!" Scott yells as he blasts the first one. Dodging their return fire, he lines up his second shot and tazes the next pirate square in the chest. As more pirates pour in from around the corridor, Scott curses and pulls out his super scary space laser grenade, sets the dial to "stun", and launches it into the crowd of pirates.
"Everybody get down and look away!"
The grenade goes off with a sonic boom, and then silence follows.

As the second pirate falls to a tazer, Robo-Barbie peers out from behind Biggs’ leg.
"Pirates, you are outnumbered. Do not resist us," she says very calmly in all the chaos. The flash from the grenade does not affect her eyes. But being a lightweight, she flaps about like a kite on her tether, still attached to Briggs’ belt.
Her voice is still calm and soothing. (She is mechanical after all!) "Those of you still conscious, please surrender your weapons and keep all hands in the air."
(Saying "all" rather than "both" is standard procedure, and has been ever since the time she negotiated with Eight-Armed Clyde.)

"Thanks for clearing the deck!" Abara salutes McGunner.
"We'd better check quickly, if the space pirates have not planted any more explosives!"
He starts looking forward cautiously, hoping for the support of his more tech-savvy crew mates...

Ambrose witnesses this chaos and pulls out his laser pistol, trying to train it on the pirates after the bomb has gone off. He sees the two crewmates start sweeping for explosives and takes out his own instruments and checks the walls and conduits, just in case that there was something wired directly into the ship's systems.

In response both to being flashbanged and to Robo-Barbie's calm request, you see three pirates who were still holding weapons throw them to the floor and shakily raise their hands, clearly dazed from the effects of the grenade. Two figures lie unconscious in the doorway.
Scott does a quick scan for more explosives. There is quite a bit of explosive residue here, so you can only get a localised reading [that's your complication], but you're confident there are no more charges here.
Ambrose checks the walls and conduits for something wired directly into the Gate's systems. It takes a moment, but you do catch something, some kind of signal, folded into the regular data stream. Your hand-held instruments are not able to disentangle what it is [and that's your complication].

Robo-Barbie decides she can best help by conversing with a prisoner.
"Your peaceful surrender is appreciated. Now we can engage in relatively civil discourse. What are your interests in the destruction of the gate?"
Robo-Barbie is certainly an expert when it comes to making humans feel comfortable enough to share aloud. She is pleasantly surprised (read: unprepared) by the combination of nonlethal force and quick surrender, so this little talk should go swimmingly.
She smiles pleasantly as she adds a bit: "Or… since the interests are not likely yours personally, whose interests are they? I thank you in advance for your obligatory cooperation."

The pirate you addressed, a grizzled human wearing a stained lab coat over his regular crew gear turns, blinking, in your general direction: "We're taking down the quantum tunnel that powers the Gate," he replies. "And there ain't nothing you can do about it!"
Another pirate gestures effusively with his four raised arms: "Yeah! Even at maximum speed, that navy frigate won't be able to get back to Tondra for years. And when they do, we'll be ready for 'em. We're going to make this system our new base of operations. It'll be a pirate utopia."

Scott asks the prisoner, "What is to goal of the pirate Utopia? You accomplish a little terrorism, seize control of the region, and then... What was the plan exactly?"

The pirate turns to Scott: "That frigate, the bloody Téméraire, has been patrolling this system for the last two years. And for those two years we've had to hide like..." He pauses, searching for the right word. "... like, well, like common criminals! But by now the other crews will be reaching their positions on the power grid and getting ready to shut this thing down for good. Then we can get back to business."

Scott, you recall being taken to see a Gate in the process of being decommissioned when you were a kid. The process took years. You have a fuzzy memory of an adult telling you what would happen to the surrounding system if it wasn't done with the utmost care...
