A critical success!

In a masterful display of subtle interrogation techniques, Abara casually drops in to the conversation a description of the approaching ship. One of the uninjured pirates nods along with you and identifies it as their flagship, assuming from your tone that you already knew. "It's near as dammit completely automated," he continues. "Harper doesn't even need a crew to run the thing – pilots it himself."

"This ship approaching, I assume it's one of yours? What is their intent!"
Jul 2, 2024 1:17 pm
"Yeah, like I say, it's the flagship. Harper's here to bask in the glory of a job well done." He looks uneasy. "Oh, he is going to be so pissed."

As an android, she probably should not care whether people live or die. Caring should be impossible for her. Yet, she believes she does care.
As you carefully explain the reality of the situation, the woman's eyes widen in horror. The other had already started climbing down into the coupler itself, but he had clearly been listening in. You can tell this because, when you begin explaining—in somewhat graphic detail—the inevitable result of an uncontrolled shutdown, you hear shocked swearing from below and he rapidly reappears at the railing, sweating hard.

Laser Feelings Q: How can Robo-Barbie get the pirates to agree to a truce with Briggs and his crew? (I’m assuming that they still believe we are pirates, but the facade can only hold up for so long.)
These two still believe you are pirates and, either way, there's no way they are touching any machinery today. The pirates at the other coupler have been essentially nullified by Abara and Logic, and so the Gate is safe for now. But Harper? From what you've heard, he might not go down without a fight...

Robo-Barbie is relieved to see the pirates have come to their senses. They are still pirates. They should be in prison. But McGunner would be out McGunned since a robotic Barbie doll can only do so much in a gunfight, or any fight.

And his shooting skills will be needed against Harper.

She says to the pirates, "You understand. To complete this mission is death. I can see this comes as a shock. I recommend the two of you find a cabin and lay low.

"I will assess whether this is a sting operation or we are being used as sacrificial pawns. A plausible third option is simply that the plan is fatally flawed."
She turns to McGunner, "I recommend we regroup with the others and report our findings."

Alarmed, Abara transmits the results of this interrogation to this fellow crew members, makes sure that the pirates are properly immobilized, then hurries after Logic back to the ship. With regret, he thinks to himself: "Seems like time for diplomacy is finally over..."

I suggest we montage the next couple of scenes and have you all meet up back on the ship – does that sound OK?

Sounds good!

Great! Here's a tag to let you know we're close to finishing up this little adventure, @Faluffh, @Legendary_Sidekick, @GameMaster, @natknight and @zatatmando. If you would like to hop in—briefly or otherwise—we'd love to see you!
Logic and Abara, after securing the pirates, you rendezvous with the Raptor at the nearest airlock. With Logic assisting at the helm you quickly and stealthily skim over the surface of the Gate to an access point where Robo-Barbie and McGunner can join the ship, having successfully dealt with the pirates at their location. Redstone is also now back on board.

As you reconvene on the bridge, updating each other on the events of the last hour or so, you see on the screen the pirate flagship making its final approach. It's enormous. It appears to be made up of many smaller craft crudely welded together; the residue of laser impacts streak the hull and you can make out more serious damage from missile impacts dotted all over the ship's superstructure.
OOC:
What do you do?

"Robo Barbie, that sounds like a good idea. Let's regroup."
Jul 15, 2024 4:17 pm
"Now that we are back together, we should plan our next move. That ship is massive, and that might actually be to our advantage. Should we try to stealt our way on board? They would hardly notice a few extra hands on the ship, and uniforms shouldn't be a problem."
Jul 15, 2024 4:44 pm
Logic, visibly more comfortable now that his rough, clawed hands are back on the ship's controls, grins. "A cunning plan, McGunner! Land a small team on their ramshackle leviathan, distract the crew by engaging them ship-to-ship, and then strike the decisive blow from within."

He nudges the controls and starts to approach the flagship, looking for an angle where its chaotic jumble of sensors might be blind.

"I suppose," he muses as the ship makes a wide turn, "that would could also try diplomacy, if only as a delaying tactic."

OOC:
Just a reminder that you were told the ship is run almost entirely by the captain, Harper, with computer assistance. There is no other crew...

Do we have fighter ships at all? If not I would like to say that Ambrose has constructed some drones that can be used to protect the ship. Let me know what you if you want me to roll Lasers for that.

Love it. For sure you have drones. Roll me lasers for their quality. Remember you can add die for people helping and for any relevant expertise.

Abara happily takes the cue from Logic, turning to comms officer Maloy: "Open channels, Mr. Maloy." It's time for a little of the the old "I Shall Taunt", he remembers his offensive diplomacy training.

After straigthening himself and his uniform and putting on a face much harder than his crewmates are used he looks straight at the screen: "Captain Harper, you might as well surrender right now. That rust bucket of yours is no match for a state of the art Consortium ship. Let alone that you have let your crew get captured and must run it all by your own like a cadet fresh out the academy.
OOC:
Trying to provoke a hasty reaction from Harper here, rolling Lasers and would argue that this is Abara forte, so 2d6

"Very good Mr Biggs, keep him talking for just a moment," says Logic as he spots a likely gap in the sensors and starts his boarding run. If a strike team can make it to the bridge they should be able to take out this pirate menace easily.

"Starting final approach," he calls out. "Boarding team, stand by."

McGunner is going to board one of the small auxiliary pods off the central bridge of the ship.

"I reckon we all stealth over in the same pod. I can activate the thermal and reflector shields and electromagnetic cloaking module to try to disguise our signature, but I can't promise it will be 100% effective. Anyone who wants to infiltrate should get on in this pod now."
