With The Doppelgangers

Walker points it out, saying, "No, not much to do until we get the specs from their databank. It looks powerful though, no telling what we could do. Hopefully there is enough instructions we can interpret to send us both home, and maybe us with a weapon against the Borg."

"If we get the mainframe up and running. Do you think you can get anything useful out of it, Aurin-Ah? Like how we get home?" Luna asks after the quick inspection of the room.

If it could house an intelligence, we should probably avoid waking it up she looks at the screens and interfaces

Neural interface....resonates with Jayce. What an interesting opportunity it would be for an empathic Haliian to connect to such a system created and by an ancient alien intelligence. What would the neural network resemble, the Sculptors' own minds? After Drake asks if they could help in anyway, Jayce has to specifically ask about the interface:

"Captain, I studied some of the symbols in the power room with our science officer, Lieutenant Ah, and am possibly beginning to formulate ideas about some of the ways the Sculptors approach logic and communication. Does it appear this neural link is the sole interface to the Sculptor apparatus?"

Aurin peered around the room with a degree of wonderment. The decorations or ergonomics of the device were fascinating. He paced the chamber, looking for anything that might be a console, with a display or screen, or any physical mechanisms used to start the whole thing up. "We can hope the system starts up in phases, but our understanding of the system is limited. I'm just hopeful we can turn it on at all. If something... sour happens, we do have a remote cutoff for the power."

Cole breathed a small, slight sigh of relief at Drake and Jayce's report. Pleased that his mistrust was not entirely warranted towards their counterparts and enthused that they were patiently waiting on them to study the archives before attempting to operate the device. Fighting the urge to reach up in an attempt to scratch his beard, contained within the safety of his pressurized helmet, he considered his medical officer's words and in agreement that and alien AI was probably not something they wanted to activate with full control straight out of the gate.

"Power it up," he grunted to Lieutenant Ah, comforted by the science officer's confidence that if things got dicey they would be able to power down - assuming of course the AI let them.

"Aye, sir." His normally jovial tone took on a rather serious note. "There's a lot we don't know about this... device. So be prepared for... well, security measures, neural interface compatibility issues, or... well, anything, really."

He prodded a few of the buttons on his tricorder, instructing the Raven to allow the power into the computer room, figuratively flipping the 'on' switch.

Restoring power to the room causes the hand engravings to glow with crystalline energy, as if beckoning the characters to touch the engravings.

"Should we like... touch it?" Luna asks a bit skeptical

I have my reservations. ..but it may need to connect with us to send us home

OOC:
Your choices include researching it more, but for the sake of expediency, interfacing with the device will require someone to place their hand in the socket. This is likely similar to the neutral interface discovered by the doppelganger crew.

I would rather not stick my paws in there and risk not being able to help you all...who wants to test it?

"I'll do it." Drake felt that it was his responsibility to do so, never mind the risks to his own limb, or worse, his life.

Rather than thinking about it for too long and possibly losing his nerve, Drake sticks his hand in the socket.

Drake feels a sense of disorientation as the space station dissolves into darkness and is then replaced by a dazzling array of miniature galaxies swirling around him like snowflakes. As he takes in the wondrous sight, you hear a voice warn, "Careful. Each one is its own quantum universe. It’s very easy to get lost here."

The voice comes from a humanoid form standing in the middle of the swirling galaxies in Drake's mind. The creature possesses lizard-like features and hands with four long fingers. The creature refers to itself as the Custodian of the Archives and explains that, "Welcome. I am an artificial intelligence engineered to maintain the Sculptor apparatus and assist the Sculptors who use it. I will answer your questions," it says with a matter-of-fact tone, with a trace of melancholy.

Drake gasps at the idea he could be lost in this ... this ... he's not sure what this is. He thinks his eyes are open but maybe they aren't as he snatches dizzying glimpses of planets, moons, suns, all floating around before him at speed.

"Thank you," he replies to the welcoming introduction and begins to feel more at ease.

"Would it be possible for you to show us how to go home? What else can you help us with?"
Jul 21, 2024 10:39 pm
At the use of the pronoun "us" the custodian forms as a hologram before everyone in the archives.

Audibly only to Drake as atmospheric integrity hasn't been established, it responds, "Using the Sculptor apparatus to open a fissure to a particular quantum reality, such as the one from which your group originated, poses little challenge. An operator must simply wear the helmet in the Sculptor chamber and focus their thoughts on the correct quantum reality. "

Jumps back at the silent apparition

Drake asks, "Whoever wears the helmet simply has to think about going home? That's it?" He wanted reassurance that he was hearing the custodian correctly.
Jul 22, 2024 11:42 pm
"Not just think, but focus. Don't let your thoughts stray, but it should be intuitive. Your will will guide the apparatus."
Jul 23, 2024 5:14 pm
"Someone should go to the Sculptor chamber and put the helmet on that is located there. Focus on our home, our reality. This is how we can return home."

Drake relays this message to crew and hopes one of them will volunteer.
