"There bloody better be or why else would we be doing it..." Elke grumbles. She nods to Xanxus, ready to head out. "Since I'm assuming that if the world ends we're not going to be merrily transported back from whence we came and instead will get sucked down into the ruddy cataclysm of death right alongside it."

Blackstar sighs resignedly when the barkeep only stares at him blankly after asking for a martini (shaken, not stirred). The last world he'd ended up in hadn't had martinis either.

OOC:
Guys, for reference it's currently about 11pm.
Myrneth stirs from the floor and looks wide eyed at Blackstar. Reaching inside his tunic he pulls out a scroll and hands it to your group.
OOC:
The following is not the contents of the scroll verbatim. Instead it's a summary of the content.
Quote:
Myrenth is a wizard from the hamlet of Sorrow’s Reach in a realm he calls Darkshire. That realm, along with the realm of Bloodstone, was destroyed in an event he calls the Nightfall.

The Nightfall is not merely an event, it’s an entity, a malignant force which has ripped lands from across the Continuum and
drawn them around itself like a great shell or cocoon.

Deep within the cocoon, the Nightfall is spawning. As a single entity, the Nightfall is a threat to entire realms. A ravenous brood of such entities would be a threat to the entire Continuum.

The Nightfall binds the lands together using the Weave, a network of dark energies which connect the various lands and can be
travelled, albeit with some difficulty.

The Nightfall’s grip on the various lands is tied to its grip on the Icons: through their power or actions, the Nightfall exerts control
by proxy.

Myrenth posits that some denizens of the Weave are simply people from other realms who were caught there during the Nightfall.
He believes some of these may know the secrets of travel between lands. The Nightfall’s grip is weakest over the land of Durnham, once from the realm of Bloodstone. Any attempting to challenge the Nightfall would be best served by starting there.

Myrneth pulls himself to his feet and looks round you all in a panic.

"To the meadow then is it? Fly little adventurers fly. Find out what you must."
Oct 31, 2016 2:30 pm
"Myrneth I worry for your mental stability and I think you'll die someday a horrific death... possibly soon." Xanxus states shaking his head as he leaves the bar.
OOC:
I figure we're taking the box too.

You follow the map through the town of Haven, heading west in the direction of Havenwest Meadow. Thick mist engulfs you and on more than one occasion you are given a start by other equally nervous travellers passing in the opposite direction who you only become aware of way too late in the mist. On arrival the location and dimensions of the meadow seem to match those on the map with an important difference. This meadow has a large river or lake (it's hard to tell which due to the sheer density of the mist) which isn't noted on the map. Myrneth appears surprised by this but almost vindicated at the same time. Up ahead you see a dilapidated building, perhaps a boathouse of sorts which is also absent from the map.

"Row, row, row your boat gently down the stream..." Blackstar sings softly to himself.

"Lets see if Charon is around."
Nov 1, 2016 3:22 pm
Looking around the boathouse, nobody appears to be around at first glance. To the side of the entrance there is a small vase with the words '1 Obol' engraved on the front of it.
Nov 1, 2016 5:20 pm
"1 Obol..."Xanxus mutters before looking to the old man, "Give me an Obol. Now." he demands pointing at the vase.
OOC:
Xanxus assumes it's money.

Walking up to the vase, Domitius took a closer look at the lettering before peering inside.
OOC:
wondering if perhaps there's more to the words than '1 Obol.' Perhaps weather or something has changed the lettering?

Elke walks around the perimeter of the boathouse while the others are inspecting the vase to make sure no one else is watching them.
OOC:
Before I roll can you confirm it would be a widsom/perception check for this?

OOC:
There's no perception check per se in 13th Age. It would be more a case of seeing if any of your backgrounds would be useful to you in this situation.

OOC:
Domitious. The words '1 Obol' are clear and deliberately carved.

Myrneth pulls out a pouch and offers a strange hexagonal coin to Xanxus.
Nov 3, 2016 1:54 pm
Xanxus grunts a thanks before he looks the coin over before stating, "Right be about for the right around?". With that he drops the coin in the vase and waits to see if a boat shows up or if it does something else. His hand goes to his mace's handle instinctively as he waits to see what happens.
Nov 3, 2016 11:42 pm
After a long pause, during which the coin seems to rattle and spin in the bottom of the vase until it comes to a rest, you can hear the gentle slopping of a boat gliding through the water. At it's helm is a gaunt looking young man in a white shirt and calf length trousers. He is using a pole to propel the boat towards you. As the boat bumps against the side of a jetty at the rear of the boathouse, the young man throws a rope on to the jetty. He says nothing but he glances at you and you are left in no doubt that he wants you to tie the boat up.
Nov 4, 2016 5:50 pm
Blackstar catches the rope neatly and starts tying the boat off with practiced motions.

When Blackstar was young his father used to take him out on the lake at night fishing for trout. That was when he fell in love with the stars. His father taught him the names of the constellations and that was what made him want to be an astronaut. The stars of this world are different but this night-time encounter with the boatman call up a mix of memories and feeling in him.
Nov 5, 2016 1:12 pm
The young man introduces himself as Charlie. "Please board. I will take you up river".
Nov 5, 2016 2:23 pm
Stepping into the boat, Domitius carefully set his bag of bones in the floorboards. He asked, "Well, Charlie, we're new to these parts. What can you tell us about this river and the Charon Ferry Company?"
