Throgin enraged by the the creature pretended to be chest attacking Vatoris release the rope that falls down into the rift and jumps over bashing his axe into to chest. He want to swing it again, but can't - axe sticked to the mimic. Only that moment barbarian realizes his large body don't have enough space and he may fall down if release the axe.
OOC:
Sorry to skip this earlier, but though everyone knows the cliche mimic. As stated above "The mimic adheres to anything that touches it." including your handaxe.

@valdattaMadun please read below and I will allow you to make a choice to re-post your turn and delete the post you did if you were missing some of both of the points. If you stay with your turn I would like to give you Inspiration though, I find that bold move very inspiring.

1. I'm ignoring your sedond attack, because hadaxe sticked to mimic after the first attack and you used your one free object interaction this turn already (have no time to grab another one).

2. Also your "Giant's Havoc" feature I believe it is not your choice. You always become large when raging if there is enough space. There is so little space that if you release your handaxe sticked to mimic you will fall down the 100 feet.

I cast a level 2 Witch Bolt. If I am not within the 30 foot range I will approach to within range.

Witch Bolt to hit - (1d20+8)

(15) + 8 = 23

Witch Bolt Damage - (2d12)

OOC:
I actually pulled out my handaxe specifically because my off hand could be holding the rope at the same time. sorry thought I posted that.

Could I instead make it so I raged just before/during the jump I threw my handaxe before/while jumping on the first attack so that it would actually have returned to my hand, and then did the 2nd attack normally?

This would take away my ability to reckless on the first attack but even if it is done switching that to disadvantage I think it would probably hit? I would even trade off the inspiration for this to work
[ +- ] Elemental Cleavor

OOC:
I simply failed to imagine a person who is holding the rope for me and prepared to catch/pull me up if I fall ... while holding an ax in one had ...
OK, let's assume Vatirs had no problem with Throgin holding an ax while insuring Vatoris safety. And yes Elemental Cleavor would solve problem with sticking. I still need you to decide if you jump-and-rage or not. There is no space for large creature on the other side.
Jul 9, 2024 3:38 pm
OOC:
I do jump and rage. The 2nd attack being melee, right when I land so it is stuck and I am holding it in one hand still (so I don't fall) but it does "end up" stuck in the mimic to end the turn

OOC:
OK, I've got two player turns, waiting for Zean and Ixion (tomorrow I will take over Zean, but not yet today)

I think it will be my last post before vacations. So take care - all of you - mainly IRL, but after our PCs too! :) Zean would probably protect others first, than... be curious:) See you around 23rd!
Zean seeing that his friends are fighting - literally - at the edge, being at the waterfall edge himself, takes out his blessed by the thunder maul. He rises it heigh above his head and lowers it with surprising speed of thunder, so even flowing water is pushed away for second by the flow and speed of air caused by rapid movement. The maul in the very moment of connecting with the ground makes an awfully loud sound that Zean seams to control by his will and makes it precisely bounce off the cave walls and focus it entire force at the mimic, hopefully making sound wave so strong that it will shove the mimic together with his friends held by it towards the cave wall, crash mimic against it's hard surface and make it so shocked that it will let go his friends.
OOC:
Casting:
[ +- ] 5lvl: Destructive Wave; 1A; Self(30 radius);
Deleting 1 (and last) 5th spell slot on my sheet.
The last sentence is how I imagine it - AND is meant to make sure that spell effect won't make Throgin or Vatoris fall down! Otherwise Zean wouldn't use it. But I imagined that if the mimic will end up 'prone' it could mean it stopped to hold Vatoris and Throgin? Maybe?

Unfortunately I fully expect that 5E rules will make it (look) again much less epic/fun - so just wanted to state my intentions:) Still hoping it will pass:)

radiant damage - (5d6)

OOC:
5e designer seems to have foreseen this and made mimic unable to get prone
Condition Immunities: Pronefall rolling de
P.S. It doesn't mean Throgin is safe against falling though we will see

Rolls

Mimic con save - (1d20+2)

(3) + 2 = 5

Animated chest shakes and with a splash turns into an amorphous form that becomes still.
OOC:
Mimic is dead and turned fromchest mimicry to it's natural form in which it loose it's Adhesive feature
Vatoris is able to release himself and the lockpicks immediately,
Throgin's handax is also released, Throgin swings it into the air and start falling
OOC:
Throgin - make a dex save DC 10 to catch edge and then DC 14 athletics check. Both with advantage because you are a raging barbarian, I'll narrate accordingly.
After that roll we are out of combat

Whooaaa!!

Rolls

Dexterity save (advantage) - (2d20H1+1)

(134) + 1 = 14

Strength save (advantage) - (2d20H1+8)

(48) + 8 = 16

Throgin's instincts allow him to drop the handax next to Vatoris down into the rift to be able to catch the edge. Big guy manage to climb up the walls slippery of the water usually flowing through (not at the moment due to Zean magic) and get up, reducing in size immediately after.
You are all safe, though without the desired loot this time.
OOC:
Do you do anything else in this level? I created new thread for next level, but feel free to post both here are there simultaneously
Jul 10, 2024 7:06 pm
OOC:
Could I add some flavor to the "dropping of the handaxe"?

Was thinking Throgin might throw his handaxe down as he grabs the wall, then as he is jumping to the other side it reappears in his hand?

Unless this is me, loosing the handaxe of course and it not returning
Jul 10, 2024 10:04 pm
OOC:
I'm reasonably sure Tinkara could fly down and retrieve a dropped hand axe.
Jul 11, 2024 6:35 am
OOC:
Well if you insist. Updated the text above
Handax falls down into the darkness and with a splash reach the bottom.
OOC:
@valdattaMadun
You can't "Throw" your weapon to make it re-appear. You can only do that as an action on your turn, but it is not your turn. Your PC simply have no time - he either instinctively release the weapon and grab the edge while falling or he don't and simply fall

Jul 11, 2024 1:41 pm
I will fly down and see if I can spot the handaxe.

I think I was more thinking of just adding flavor to something that mechanically didn't really make that much of a difference if the handaxe was next to Vatoris or appearing back in my hand.

Tinkara flies all 100 feet down
What she see below is grotto with slick with slime. Water is murky and she can't see the bottom, realizing water would be more than 10 feet deep. The din of machinery echoes through rough-hewn tunnel toward a murky lake
[ +- ] MAP
OOC:
Map pictures how this grotto looks like when water falls down, but it is not due to magic. I've put red crosses on water shaking
Tinkara will need to swim into the murky water and search for the handaxe because in murky water you only have 10-foot visibility

I fly back up to the rest of the party and describe what I've seen below.

"I'm great at flying, but I'm not a great swimmer, and I'm unarmed except for spells. How critical is it that we retrieve this handaxe?"

Honestly, I was just trying to add flavor to something that wouldn't have functionally made a difference here. Before it was dropped next to Vatoris, he could have picked it up and brought it over just fine. I was thinking of just adding "flavor" to it, in a way that made 0 mechanical benefit to me. So if I could pull that back I would, as my intention was more "look at this cool thing that doesn't actually matter" than actually change the mechanical difference but if we have to play it out now it doesn't matter to retrieve, it wouldn't be at all different than my javelins other than less range and damage type
ummm probably not that much

Talking flavor. Dropping weapon down always sounded most logical to me, but hurting you as player, so I decided to provide an exception that wouldn't be so logical , but beneficial. Now hearing that you a player also don't like the flavor of that beneficial narration I discarded it.
Let me know if you don't support my decision and I will try learn from this
