With the one guard still keeping his weapon trained on them, Dell doesn't love these odds. However, with their leader turned away and the other inside the Speed E., they certainly aren't going to get any better. Any hesitation and they're just going to revert back to three, possibly five against two.
He wishes his and Ava's positions were reversed, so that he had the alert guard within his grasp, but that's just his usual luck.
He'll have to hope that his actions cause enough of a distraction for the doctor to either overcome or escape from the other opponent, and that he moves fast enough not to be too much of an easy target.
His ISO model is built for speed first, and his transition from a standing start to a lunging sprint is nearly instantaneous.
Dell's left arm wraps around the neck of the distracted guard leader while his right is already grabbing at the man's weapon to either seize or negate it; but again he relies on his weight and momentum as his main weapon--crashing full on into his opponent in an attempt to slam him up against the side of the van. If he's lucky the squad leader will at least end up positioned to obstruct fire from the man within the Speed E.
As for the armed guard behind him--he'll just have to pray he's a poor shot.

The speed of the next six seconds unfolds on the edge of an event horizon - bend, smeared nearly, as the tension draws as tight as piano wire between an assassin's garrote.
In the moment before the lead SecGuard turns back to face his suspects, a calculated second elapses. He turns a half step - ankle just so, enough to stand but in a critical moment of distributing weight - and Dell launches.
"Look ou-!"
Too late. Dell smashes into his right shoulder. His ankle buckles - just as planned - and with suddenly leverage Dell rams the guard into the back corner of the Speed-E. Glass splinters - the van rocks on its wheels, and a heavy thump rumbles inside. The guard's helm lolls as it recovers from being used to smash the back window. There's a brief squeal of electronics from behind.
Thwipthwip - two flechettes fire from the third guard's stunner into Dell's shoulders. The third guard ducks around the doctor and rolls behind the front of the Speed-E for cover. A helm-comm squawks loudly.
"Contact contact, officers under attack, requesting back up in Central Control parking lot - step on it!"
A full second elapses; the head guard drops to the ground; his stunner clatters.
Then, the car alarm wails.
Inside the facility, Switchblade and Ulysses pass at the the security point junction when they hear the whooping blare of the alarm from out in the parking lot.
What do you do?
Dr. Ava, please also roll a Stress Check.

"Whoever caused this, we won't be able to find Hans easily now," Switchblade stops in his tracks, his mechanical fingers flexing and whirring in preparation for a potential fight. "We should either rush towards him or leave before we get noticed to maintain our cover." He looks around as well, searching the area for a sign to an emergency exit. "Although if Dr. Renn and Ivers are in trouble, it might be more beneficial to ensure that they don't get arrested and interrogated."

Dell grabs the fallen guard's stunner, mainly to disarm him, and dives forward through the shattered window into the rear of the vehicle, vaulting over the extra seating and rolling forward next to the driver's seat, he shifts the Speed E into gear to take out the guard hiding in front of the hood.
OOC:
This string of bad and worse decisions kind of relies on the fact Dell had triggered the autostart back when he hailed the guards (way back on pg. 5) in case they needed to make a quick exit. If guard 3 had shut the engine down I'll need to revise this significantly. Rolls
Initiative (Agility--1d6+4) - (1d6+4)

Agility (1d6+4 -- maybe courier bonus apply here?) - (1d6+4)

OOC:
@Dell, you're in luck - Guard 3 did not turn off the engine in his search for the glove compartment, so the Speed-E is running and good to go! And yes, we can say Courier applies for your Agility roll to tumble into the van.@Ava, you did roll Stress correctly, thank you. :D Unfortunately, 7 isn't high enough, so you increase to Stress Level 1. No mechanical penalty at this point, but your heart is racing for sure!
The kids are gone - two guard lie crumpled on the pavement, one possibly unconscious, the other almost certainly deceased if not maimed. Inside the van, the last of the guards struggles to his feet in the back of the van and snarls at Dell in the rear-view. The alarm is already called - the stale air feels suddenly electric.
What do you do?

How are we doing the initiative - do we all post since there is just one non-PC initiative, or keep it strictly in order regardless? Also, did Switchblade see anything pointing to an emergency exit?
May 28, 2024 2:16 pm
OOC:
Great question and clarification!Yes, I think since the guards biffed their initiative rolls, the group can proceed in whatever order you'd prefer - Dell's already acted this round, but everyone else can act.
And my apologies FS! I had in mind that when the van alarm sounded, Switchblade and Ulysses were back at the fork in the hallway between Lockers, Engineering, and the checkpoint booth where you all entered - so the exit out to the parking lot is just a sprint back through the security booth. I should've made that clearer, sorry about that!

"Dell what do I do? I have no weapons and that guy is still back there." Ava looks around the floor where she is sitting for any kind of makeshift weapons.
"In the meantime, drive like a madman. Slam on the brakes and accelerate. Keep him off balance. If we're lucky he'll hit his head."

OOC:
Oh, you were pretty clear, I get where we are. :D I was trying to specifically find a different exit so we don't have to go out front. You know, in full view of the cameras and guards? Switchblade is simply trying to leave a chance for pretending to be engineers again, and that probably wouldn't work if people see us leaving with Ava and Dell (who already left, but he doesn't know it). Then again, if there are no obvious other exits, he'd just shrug and forget keeping up the cover.Last edited May 28, 2024 9:17 pm

OOC:
Ah, understood - that's a good plan! With a straight shot out the parking lot, you and Ulysses are probably already on the actual emergency exit route for this sector of the plant, but I bet there's another route you could take...Jun 1, 2024 4:06 pm
Switchblade grins when he notices the sign. "Ha, I haven't took a tramway in ages! There is probably an emergency exit somewhere around there, so we can avoid being too obvious in fleeing the scene. We can also scout out whether we can enter through it at a later date." He inclines his head towards Ulysses: "Your thoughts?"
Jun 3, 2024 8:16 pm
"We should not waste time. Let's book it." says Ulysses as he glances behind them worringly.
Jun 3, 2024 8:34 pm
Switchblade nods in agreement and quickly walks over to the door, intending to make his way straight to the tramways. Even if there is anyone inside, they can simply pretend to be trying to leave the building because of the alarm. Use the emergency exit in the intended way, if anything.
OOC:
I guess movement is our action for the turn? If there is no one at the tramway stop, I'd like to just directly look for the emergency exit. If there is, pretend to be workers looking for the same. XDJun 4, 2024 12:01 pm
The two sprint, taking steps two at a time down the stairs to the tramway stop. As luck would have it, the station is empty - the platform is covered in minor debris and the rail empties into a long, dark hole delving deeper into the unknown. Following the buzzing electronic signs, they weave their way towards the emergency exit stairwell and burst out onto a catwalk scaffolding overlooking the parking lot. Just in time to see the Speed-E squeal away from two bodies on the pavement.
Inside the van, the remaining guard get his feet under him and starts to stalk his way through the seats towards Dell and Dr. Ava. He draws his stunner and barks into his helm-comm.
"Officers down! Sending suspect footage-"
Something mechanical whirs and clicks rapidly - taking pictures.
What do you do?

Switchblade watches the vehicle retreat, then surveys the area below, squinting at the bodies on the pavement in evaluation. "Seems like something went very much not according to plan," he snorts, then gestures at the scaffolding around them. "Let's get away before law enforcement arrives, I doubt we can convince them that we are local workers. There should be a ladder somewhere around here, I imagine..." The cyborg taps his chin in thought and looks around, trying to see a good, camera-less way to exit the scaffolding. "Then we can think of how to reconvene."
Jun 4, 2024 11:30 pm
"Dell! We have to take him out. Get that helmet cam!"
Ava doesn't think about the consequences because there is no time. She rushes the guard, hoping that Dell is right there behind her. If not, she will scrap with the guard until something happens one way or the other. Doing nothing was not an option.

A cursory search reveals a safety ladder descending down to the parking lot level, emptying into a small chain-link cage topped with barbed wire and a single one-way door out to the lot itself.
Inside the vehicle, the Doctor grapples with the guard as he tries to push his way up the seat tiers towards the driver.
