Investigation

Apr 13, 2024 3:33 am
The flight back to the Sisterhood starts out quietly. Some of you were injured greatly and you have PDF scouts with you who are dealing with their captivity in Xenos hands. There will be a reckoning but, not quite yet. First you’ll need to get permission and access and then you’ll need to gather evidence. This begins your investigation.
Apr 13, 2024 6:14 am
Krondo sat at one of the corners of the Aquila lander's crew cabin and thought deeply about the operation. He was sifting through his data slate and compiling all the data he had gathered in order to present it to the Sister Superior.

OK My character is certainly not in position to contribute "to get permission and access". Will stay silent for now
By the way, what we need "permission and access" TO?

"There is something rotten here. Something I cannot quite wrap my finger around" the Sister Retributor muttered.
"Tech Priest. Can you open for us a safe channel for our Canoness? We have much to confer. That, and these young men and women will probably give us some more answers".

"I don't want to wager anything, but I find it dangerous to believe the Governor implied in this"
Apr 15, 2024 6:05 pm
Cassia lagged behind the group, something weighing on her mind. She followed up the ramp of the aquilla with her boltgun at the ready, safety off, until she finds a seat close to the door when she finally stows it. Once it's safely in the weapon rack, she draws her side arm and rests it on the vacant seat next to her in case she needs to use it at any moment.

"You want a channel straight to the canoness?" Cassia frowns, the objection in her voice clearer now her helmet is off. "Beyond the unquestionable breach of faith to allow a cog access to our blessed networks, surely the proper protocol of rank should be observed."

She glances at Krondo, then at the scouts and at her pistol. Her frown deepens, and it looks like she isn't going to continue until she opens her mouth. She lingers a moment before pressing on. "More of the same, I think travelling in the same vehicle as the... victims of the accursed xenos without proper checks is putting us all at risk."
Apr 15, 2024 6:44 pm
Krondo looked at Sister Cassia and mechanically said, "With due respect to your position and rank, Sister, I understand that your faith and fury are well placed on the souls of Imperium and that you fulfil your duty to the decree, but I have been hearing your veiled insults throughout this operation. Is it a mistake that you take your service from the Priesthood of Mechanicus? I have shown my skills to the highest Magos of Triune Forgefane of Agripinaa and my knowledge is sanctified by Omnissiah and the venerable Sister superiors of the Sacred Order of Black Rose. It was not my idea to come here and offer my services to your creed; I was summoned, and if that is what is expected of me to do, then I guess my position as Tech Priest deserves far more respectable acceptance than a 'cog'. I guess if my presence and skills are so unnecessary, then I can formally submit a petition to the Superiors to replace me with a better 'cog' that you might deem acceptable? Perhaps a fine servitor squad to maintain your armory and your holy assault carriers? If so, I will gladly return to Agripinaa where my skills will be much better appreciated than a Holy Order whose esteemed members considers my talents bothersome and 'cog'-worthy."
Apr 15, 2024 7:05 pm
Cassia snorts. "I assure you, priest, it's nothing personal. While your skills may be well placed, and who am I to judge? Surely you understand the restrictions placed upon you here."

She gestures with her hands as she makes her point. "Take, for example, if I were to come into your sacred Agripinaa and began reconfiguring your systems without the proper rituals. Would you be happy to let that happen purely on the faith of my rank among the Legatine? I doubt it, at best. Any mechanicus, from a lowly servitor to a fabricator locum would not be given access to that which lies behind bastion doors, even in a metaphorical sense."

She sits back in her seat, and finishes her point. "That's not to comment on the tactical implications of allowing a member of a different power access to our encrypted command networks. Surely your logic understands the implications that presents?"
Apr 16, 2024 6:58 am
krondo visibly sighed, "If you are to reconfigure the technologies of Agripinaa, you won't be able to because you are not trained on the sacred rites of the Omnissiah. Not that you won't be, it is just that we are trained for different purposes entirely. I don't want access to your secret priority vox channel frequency but coming from such a high-ranking Sister, I expected a little bit more trust and respect from another Imperial organization. In our darkest hours, we have shouldered each other not with mutual doubt and suspicion but with appreciation and dependence on our valued skills. I have no intention to prod and probe your sacred relics that you keep in your hallowed sanctum. Neither do I have any inclination to wander through restricted areas of your holy bastion. Well, once my service period is over, I would be happy to leave your order and give my meticulous reports regarding the wastage of precious time an able Tech Priest could have utilized in other better ventures."
Apr 16, 2024 8:22 am
"Enough!".

Sister Retributor Domitia Jurgena's voice boomed inside the crew compartment.

"Brother Krondo Sigma is an esteemed ally to our Order, sister. You would well to remember that. About the scouts, they have been already thoroughly checked. In any case, I prefer to travel with something dangerous where I can see it, and intervene should the need arise" the Retributor added, icy.

"This is my decision. Others will decide their fate, and will scour them of the taint IF THEY HAVE ANY. Did I make myself clear, Sister?".
Apr 16, 2024 8:26 am
Krondo nodded at both the Sisters and resumed reading and scrolling his data slate.
Apr 16, 2024 9:01 am
"Is that right, sister. Your decision?" Cassia turns her head slowly. "Interesting notion, sister superior. My apologies."

She turns back to Krondo, a small smirk playing about her lips. She shakes her head, and takes her book out of her kitbag.
Apr 16, 2024 9:08 am
Tickettbror says:

She turns back to Krondo, a small smirk playing about her lips. She shakes her head, and takes her book out of her kitbag.
"I do hope you are not reading about Mu'gulath Bay again, dear Sister" the Sister Retributor mused. "How is this channel coming along, venerable Adept?"
Apr 16, 2024 9:17 am
OOC: Well lorewise, I don't know if I have access to a secure channel because I really don't want to hack into a private channel of Sisterhood. Would the Sister superior give me access to a private channel.
Apr 16, 2024 6:16 pm
After checking his data for few more minutes, Krondo looked at Sister Jurgena, "Sister, I am sorry to say, we cannot have a secure channel from here within the Aquila Lander. We have functional transmitters, but I don't think I can properly encrypt the channel with these ones. I suggest we reach the bastion and then we either report to her or get close to an advanced cogitator where I can encrypt the frequency better." He eyed the scout troops, "Also, having fewer individuals will give our team better security against information breach. I deeply apologise for this predicament."
Apr 17, 2024 5:57 pm
It does not take long before you are able to return. The Aquilla Lander arrives, and the PDF forces are taken to the infirmary where they will be treated and prayed over. The rest of the group is brought to Reliquant Superior Maria Grace.

The woman in charge is in her office, it is a spartan place, just a desk, files, and cogitator. There are only to bits of excess. The first, is the stained-glass window where Saint Celestine stands in her full glory. The sunlight coming through that window highlights Celestine's halo. The second, bit of excess is a delicate ceramic of Saint Kodachi inlaid with gold. The Reliquant Superior is only one step removed from Cannoness and she could, if she wanted, have far more resplendent things yet, she just has the two.

She gestures to an ancient holo-screen table. There upon the table an image begins to appear. A woman in full Inquisitorial robes stands and looks at you and Maria Grace. "I am Inquisitor Selina of the Rose. I am here at the request of the Reliquant Superior to hear the evidence you bring before me and, if I deem it worthwhile, to imbue you with full Inquisitorial power in my name."
Apr 18, 2024 9:45 am
Sister Retributor Domitia Jurgena bites her tongue. An Inquisitor here. She dearly wanted to be wrong about the whole affair, but it seems she was correct. That offers little solace now.

Still, here she is just a Retributor. She can't talk. Yet.
Apr 18, 2024 5:19 pm
Krondo is visibly shaken by seeking the Inquisitorial symbol in the holoprojection. So an Inquisitor is involved. This is going out of the league. Dangerous affair when the Inquisition comes knocking. He eyed the sisters, wondering who was going to talk first. He has no authority to speak before the sisters have spoken.
Apr 19, 2024 1:15 pm
Cassia glances sideways at Domitia and has to fight to hide her smirk. Clearly the retributor is only interested in throwing her weight around and assuming rank when there's no chance of anyone challenging her. Now that they're in the company of authority she shrinks back into the background.

Instead of dwelling on the point, Cassia steps forward. She performs the sign of the aquilla, and bows her head. "Honoured Sister, my lady Inquisitor. We return from our investigations on the xenos ship. I intend to provide a full report, but in summary; what we found there was unacceptable."

She lifts her head, and addresses the Reliquant. "We encountered hostiles believed to be of the Drukhari breed, along with several tyranids. Acting as military leader, Retributor Jurgena performed her role admirably in guiding her troops. Furthermore, we recovered intel, curtesy of our allies in the mechanicum, that suggests the governor was aware of the xenos presence."

She turns to the inquisitor, marginally more nervously but still without hesitation. "Where from this would you like me to begin?"
Apr 23, 2024 11:50 pm
The Inquisitor listens to Cassia and when the report is complete she makes a decision. "Have the tech priest send the data encrypted to me. In the meantime I am giving you authority to investigate this matter. Authorization Selena alpha three ten beta gamma seven five." There is a hum from the device she’s showing on and a few moments later a signet ring pops out.

"Reliquant Superior hand the ring to your sisters who will act with my authority. They are allowed in any location, to search any they need, find the evidence and bring the traitors to justice."

The Reliquant Superior holds the ring and slowly hands it to Cassia. "Cassia you will lead the investigation. If it comes to battle for any reason I expect you to heed to Jurgena’s lead on that. Jurgena, keep her safe and upon your life do not allow this ring in anyone else’s hand"
Apr 25, 2024 8:51 am
Cassia bows again, then performs the sign of the Aquilla as a salute before stepping back. She glances at Krondo to see if he has anything to add in the given situation, and then to the group generally in case she missed anything. She has no intention of superimposing her will on them, as a leader she intends to give them the floor, for now at least.
Apr 25, 2024 6:01 pm
Krondo watched the exchange, noticing every detail shared; however, he didn't have the audacity to look into the eye of the Inquisitor. As his role was mentioned, he nodded and bowed without uttering a word. He slightly raised his eyebrows as the authority was given to Sister Cassia. He tried to calculate the number of ways he could be branded as unworthy and corrupted. He had to tread very carefully now and speak less so. Maybe this was an equation to solve before it became null invalid. Why was he sent here again? Right, why else . . .
Apr 25, 2024 6:06 pm

"By your will. For the order"
Apr 25, 2024 6:16 pm
It takes an effort for Bigby to keep calm
Putting governor down, even rumors of that possibility opens a lot of opportunities he believes.
But for now he is just waiting for orders.
Apr 27, 2024 12:29 pm
Contented that the others had said their bit, or affirmed the situation in some way, Cassia speaks up again. "Is there anything further we may aid you with, Lord Inquisitor, or may we request leave to attend to the mission?"
May 5, 2024 12:18 am
The Inquititor shakes her head. "Nothing else Sister. May the Emperor’s light guide you." She fades from the hologram.

The Reliquant Superior nods and says, "If you need the order call. We will be ready to arrest any who needs to be. For The Emperor!"

Knowing that is when you should take your leave you exit and find a place to plan your next action. Who will go where and ask what questions. Bigby knows people in low places and can visit them for information. Krondo has contacts with Cogs working for the aristocracy. The Sisters can easily get a meeting with the same aristocrats and ask pertinent questions.

Bigby stay quite waiting for sisters to dismiss him. Or just simply forget about him, as they does usually. Bigby knows people in low places and will visit them for information, but he wouldn't discuss that with sisters.
Information is power. Sisters thing they are the only ones with the power here. We will see...

Cassia leads the squad out of the Reliquant Superior's office, bowing before she leaves, and then assembles them in the hall outside. She turns then to face them all, already aware of how she'll begin her speech. "I know that there will be many concerns over my leadership in this endeavour. I will preface by saying we salute the rank, not the person."

She takes a deep breath, then jumps into things. "I don't think a direct approach would be ideal. I think we need to think about this carefully, so as not to reveal ourselves to the governor, if indeed his methods are as concerning as they appear. With that in mind, I would suggest we meet with some of those in his confidence, under pretext. The subterfuge doesn't appeal to me, but it is necessary."

"Of course, I welcome suggestions." She gives Krondo and Domitia a long look. "But I draw the line at addressing the governor directly just yet."

"The nobles be a nest of vipers... But I suppose that beginning our endeavor there could yield some sort of results".
May 13, 2024 12:51 pm
Krondo listened to Sister Cassia without saying anything. He then added, "I agree that discretion will be paramount in this investigation. If I may suggest, probing Governer's inner circle would give us much better information. Maybe even capturing one and interrogating will spill out the information. Given the heretical nature of the Xenos, I think a powerful rogue trader may be involved. Unless the vile xenos has approached the governor personally in which case we need to know his daily routine. Another avenue is to investigate the Administratum records for discrepancies. We can also probe the communication branch in order to find out about what information goes in and out of Governer 's office. We can also contact the Astropathic choir to find out who he sends messages to. The net is big but we can slowly draw it close and snap it shut."

"Well, then, if no one else has anything to add I think our first point of call has been established. Who is best placed to set up the meetings? I would as liaison, but it might have the wrong impression for a military figure to extend attention."
May 21, 2024 2:31 pm
Getting meetings with the Governor's inner circle is very easy once you tell them who you are and who you. The first person you're able to get to meet you is the Minister of Agriculture. She is Lady Isobel Rhinance and her office is absolutely gorgeous. It overlooks miles of farms with machines chugging along various plots.

Isobel has long black hair and blue eyes, she wears a gown worth a fortune, and she is clearly not happy with her governor. "Production has been down some percentage the last few quarters due to continuing lost workers. I've spoken numerous times with the Minister of Labor and he continues to evade my calls. When I bring it up in council it is as if the Governor does not care. If we slip another percent the next grain shipment will be below our taxation rate!"

Once in the main city Bigby departs to speak with some of his own contacts. His friend Paul Sealrat is a rattling in charge of the sewer swimmers. Paul speaks with Bigby saying, "You look look for Xeno? We have have pieces of equipment found in sewers. Come come, preists say this just junk but Paul knows it important important."
OOC:

Ministers List

Labor - Lord Heins Frauk
Military - Lord Amiable Newton
Finance - Lady Francine Blakeson
May 22, 2024 6:41 am
Krondo observed the extravagance of the room while listening to Lady Isobel. Being the inner circle Lady of an office, she was not destitute, and it was reflected in her clothing. It was a very interesting piece of information that the workers were gone missing and neither the Minister of Labour nor the Governor were paying any heed. It could be some kind of clue, but higher-ups generally don't care about normal imperial lives as long as the tithe is met.

Krondo smiled and added, "I see your problem, Lady Isobel. The tithe is paramount and it must be met for proper functioning of the Imperium. Can I see your records on this year's yield? I am a capable priest of the Mechanicus. I would also like to meet your techpriest, who is overseeing the equipment and managing the blessed technology. Maybe we can formulate a plan to ratchet up efficiency and hopefully help you reach this year's target."
May 22, 2024 8:41 am
"Pardon the magos' lack of introduction, ma'am." Cassia shoots Krondo a look, and then gives a short bow. "By way of introduction, I am Sister Imagifier Cassia, and these are the companions I am travelling with."

Cassia hasn't donned her battle plate for this encounter. Instead she wears a simple, long black habit. She isn't wearing a veil, but instead has a shorter hood and her hair tied back out of her face. Around her neck are a number of icons of the Lectitio Divinatus, including an aquilla and a sainted idol.

"Might I begin by saying you are doing the Emperor's work through your efforts here. Without food, His workers would not be able to work, and His soldiers would not be able to protect us. You have my heartfelt thanks, not that I am in a position to matter. With that aside though, your missing workers are concerning. Would you be so kind as to go into more detail?"
May 22, 2024 11:28 am
Paul, I knew you would entertain me! Let's go to the severs, can't wait to see what you have got there. Bigby smiles and follow his friend, sharing details about his last mission and the fact that some more Xeno and their equipment could be out there in the wild, but not the information about governor involvement or investigation going on.
May 22, 2024 6:43 pm
Isobel smiles and says, "Thank you kindly sister. You humble me with your words and the deeds of your order are well known and appreciated as well. As for the missing we’ve had a number of workers who had to be brought up to speed on the harvesters. There’s always some every year but, the last five to ten has been worse. I’ll have my tech priest speak with yours about it. Perhaps in the meantime you might like some tea?"

She tries to escort the sisters to a tea setting where she focuses on her interest in the Sisterhood. Apparently she is the second daughter and had briefly been in training when her brother perished in an air car accident. She was pulled from scholia and brought here. Even so she’s a very devoted follower of the Emperor and has a high opinion of the Sisterhood.

A tech priest comes in to speak with Krondo. She introduces herself as Sarah-813 and the binaric speech is fast and the information he provides shows a distinct increase year over year in new workers needed for the fields. The statistics don’t lie, something is decreasing to total number of workers in the fields and drawing population from the cities with a slowly increasing lack of full harvests. Krondo can see very well that within a year the world won’t be able to make tithe and feed everyone in the system.

Bigby finds himself swimming through sewage. It’s not pleasant but, after the swim he’s in a small storage space filled with black market goods. Paul shows him some broken weapons that are clearly Drukhari.

Krondo utters a sacred cant in techna lingua, "May our knowledge and purpose be true and precise, blessed Omnissiah. Well met, adept Sarah-813, it is so good to see familiar personnel of the order. My purpose and proficiency were getting stifled by bureaucracy and hierarchy, here. I understood the gist of what was going on. I am sure we can repurpose some servitors to some of the menial work and maybe increase production. However, it surely is concerning that you are losing labourers here. Is anything going on?"

"These disappearances. Why have they not been reported?"
May 28, 2024 6:46 pm
Lady Isobel is usually a wily sort of woman, if you had been anyone else, you'd have likely gotten a run around with her sophisticated words. As it stands you just end up answering various questions about the local order that any devout might have. Indeed, you find yourselves time and again trying to turn the conversation away from the Adeptas Sororitas and to your main goal. It seems Lady Isobel just can not get enough stories, details, and whatever she can about your order. You almost get the feeling that if the Adeptas Sororitas did not worship the Emperor she wouldn't care about him at all.

"I have to admit that my concern over any specific missing serfs was limited at the beginning. As they grew you will find that I have over the last year filed numerous complaints with Minister of Labor. I can also direct you to the communities most affected by the disappearances. Perhaps they would be more amenable to speaking to you as the few agents I have sent all received cold shoulders. So, I have done my job but, someone above me does not care about the lost workers."
Sara-813 shows Krondo a map of the locations where the most laborers have gone missing. She has missed the biggest issue, one that Krondo can immediately see. The disappearances are all arranged in lines and circles, like say a ship landing and jet bikes zooming out to pick up their prey. She's not quite willing to go further but Krondo picks up some interesting imbeded code within her cogitators and there follows a moment where he must deal with malignant code.
Bigby vomits from the horrible stench and Paul just laughs a few moments. "Give it a few times and you'll forget about it. Thi stuff here? Some is from the undercity, the rarest stuff came in from the farms. Folks don't want to be seen with xeno tech but, they know it has value. It gets sold to a wandering merchant who in turn sells it to me. I in turn get it to a contact who sells to the rich upper city folk. They love this stuff and it beats the hell out of selling fake heretical stuff."

Bigby recognizes the black market for what it is. Paul is a fence and likely has some friends who buy from the farms, sell to him, then he sells to the rich. What he's showing is the stuff that doesn't work anymore. When asked about where he mentions three main areas of late. Bigby will be able to put that together with the others and find the same pattern they have with the missing bodies.
OOC:
Krondo: Roll resistance TN 15
If you fail you forget the message and you loose all access to the data suggesting where the locations are and that it was in any way a coordinated effort.

Success means you know someone tried to erase that data and there is a message tag with the attempted erasure: "By order of Minister Newton there is nothing to these dissapearances."

The idea that someone can be interested in the sisterhood, but not in what it stands for at its core, makes Cassia furious. She contains her anger as best she can, but as time drags on she becomes less and less talkative. With her terse answers, any ability she had to direct the conversation disappears until eventually the subject moves onto something far more prudent to the situation, and less disrespectful as far as she's concerned.

"You mean to say you've already investigated the issues." She crosses her arms. "Are there reports of your queries? And did you not think to raise disappearances to the Arbites? It's their job to investigate, is it not?"
May 29, 2024 1:32 pm
Paul, this stuff is real! And it's story impressive! If not for the horrible stench I'd like to work with you. But you seems to do well by yourself.
As a token of gratitude I could share you this: I have reasons to believe this business may not long forever. You may want to remember everyone you sell stuff to - that information alone may be worth enough, if you happen to get into a trouble.

Noting the three main areas Bigby leaves to take a shower and clean his fancy dress. And request to meet with Sister Retributor Domitia Jurgena to inform of his desire to leave city for personal business if there his military assistance is not required immediately.

When sister Cassia mentions the Arbites the Lady looks concerned saying, "Honestly I have been doing all in my power to avoid the Arbites and ensure my part in this affair is protected. They will not care if peasants are missing but, they will care if we miss the tithe. I would rather not call them down and have them decide fault without fully ensuring my name is not on their list."

The Adeptas Arbites will root out corruption but, their primary task is to ensure Imperial Tithes continue to flow. Considering that her ministry is the most relevant to the tithe of grain she would be top of their list for replacement and her fear is valid. That said, If she can get it on record that she’s not corrupt and has been following the law then they are less likely to come down on her in the end. It’s very politically savvy of her if not the absolute best option.

OOC: Rolling the resistance.

Resistance Tech roll - (14d6+1d6)

Cassia sits forward a little, some of the darkness in her opinion of the lady bleeds into her expression. "So you're telling me that you'd rather run foul than do your duty to Him on Terra? That's one step short of forsaking your immortal soul. It's not too late to atone, but I need you to give me the whole truth, and to contact those that need to hear this."
OOC:
I'm going to try and convince her to provide us any information she held back. Given how Cassia is phrasing this, would it be persuasion or intimidation?

Jurgena coughs.

Lady Isobel sees the disappointment on Cassia’s face and fall to her knees before her. "Oh sister! My humble apologies and deepest regret. I should have realized my sins sooner and will provide all the information I can. You must also be told that Lord Newton, who is in charge of the Planetary Defense Force. Does not want or desire this information to go further."

She pleads, "I should have told you earlier but, my fear of his reaction kept me from doing so. You have enlightened me and now I know I must make myself right in the eyes of The Emperor and in yours as well. I will do anything you request."

She does her best to give you the information she has. However most of it is within Sarah-813’s cogitator and memory. Thankfully Krondo is easily able to withstand the malicious code fragment from Sarah-813 and has locations where serfs went missing.

As for Lord Newton himself he is not taking calls right now.
OOC:
No need to roll for the intimidation

OOC: Spending a wrath to reroll 10 dice from the resistance test. Okay, so with the reroll, I have scored 5 exalted success (6) and 8 normal success. I am going to use two exalted successes to get the 12 successes originally needed to resist the corruption. Remaining 4 exalted, I will like to shift one to get a Glory point and the rest 3, I will shift to get more information about this corrupting code. Can I detect where this is originating? Whether Sarah-813 is corrupted herself?

Sarah-813 is hosting the code but it doesn’t originate with her. Indeed, it is highly likely, that every tech priest on the planet has been affected. Someone, likely the Minister of the military, planted this code and let it run through the planet. They clearly wanted to ensure the data stayed out of anyone’s hands.
OOC:
Basically consider this to be an extraordinarily powerful virus that has one purpose. To ensure this data doesn’t get released.

The mere realization of such heretical information almost drove Krondo insane. By Omnissiah's blessed prayers. How did it happen? He felt like taking up the las pistol and blowing up the brain of this corrupted tech priest standing in front of him. He controlled himself and thought deeply. Alone, it would be bad move to go after the tech priest, he should report this to Sister Cassia. He abhorred this idea about sharing such incompetence of their order to a biased Sister of faith who clearly disregarded their order. However, pride will only lead to downfall of the greater Imperium. Not only that, this planet is at serious risk when this entire system has been seeped with heresy. He needed to relay this information to the Sisters as quickly as possible.

He clutched his Omnissian axe and started walking back towards Sister Cassia and Sister Jurgena.

"I appreciate your candor, and now that your cooperation will be noticed by His Divine Light." Cassia stands, seeing Krondo approaching. "But I fear our time in your augustine presence has run short. If we may be excused, we shall be taking our leave."

Once given leave, Cassia leads the others out into the hall. Once out of eyeshot, she takes out a handkerchief and rubs down her mouth and hands. She sorely wishes she'd brought her holy wargear, but hindsight is a valuable thing for learning. She leads the others into a secluded alcove as she does, then pockets the cloth.

"Disgusting, and complacent as usual. Faith is found wanting where it should be most holy. Well, to summarise our findings..."
OOC:
Cassia will tell Krondo what she knows, even if he's effectively already got the same info.
Jun 4, 2024 1:51 pm
Krondo listened to Sister Cassia talk about what she had to say and then sighed. "The situation is dire and heretical in case of the members of Mechanicus here on this planet. I tried to understand what was going on and interacted with Sarah-813, one of the tech priests, and I was surprised to find out that her cortex has been corrupted by housing a malignant code. It tried to corrupt me but my skill and the blessed sanctification of Omnissiah protected me. It looks like almost all the members are corrupted here. This is not a small-scale heresy. Its root runs deep if the entire Mechanicus here are linked. However, I know the location where the workers are getting lost. We need tangible evidence to convince our lord Inquisitor; however, if we mobilize her forces and power, I believe that the main culprit will escape. I think we should capture a high authority minister and take him or her to the Inquisitor. She can employ her techniques and extract the links. We need to make this operation a secret operation so that the other ministers don't get the wind of it and try to escape. What do you think, Sister Cassia?"
Jun 13, 2024 8:21 pm
You head out to the fields, here there are acre after acre of fields with the peasants responsible for running huge machinery that will water, fertilize, then harvest crops. The housing and villages are set underground so that it doesn’t affect the arable land. A small staircase takes you down closest to the center point of disappearances. You head down about forty feet of stairs and exit into a small central area with a fountain and small shrine to the emperor.

The few people down here stop when they see you arrive and then slowly come towards you. Three women with babes on their backs have pulled them into their arms presenting them to you as they kneel.
Jun 15, 2024 10:22 am
Cassia performs the sign of the aquilla, and then says simple blessings over each of the presented babies. She intends to visit the shrine before the starts the investigation proper, but she will give each person an equal part of her attention.

Given the kidnappings and the risk she's wearing her power armour for this outing but her helmet is attached to her belt, and her weapons are stowed. She's underground, so she likely won't have her banner to hand either.
Jun 22, 2024 6:22 pm
Krondo moved around the gathering and came close to one of the women who was offering the baby towards them. "Greetings, loyal denizen of the Imperium. Is something wrong with your child? I have come down here to look at the efficiency of the production of these agri-farms. How is your work going?"
Jun 30, 2024 10:30 pm
The children are fine but, a blessing of the emperor bestowed by an Adeptas Sororitas is truly welcome. The shrine is well maintained and it is not long before one of the locals comes close. He’s wearing the symbols of the low levels of the Eclisiarchy. He seems happy to see you, the visage of someone who has had their prayers answered is on his face.

"Work goes well. Would it be appropriate to suggest you’re here because we lost people from our fine village? If that is the case good Sister and Tech-priest, then I can show you evidence that was collected and kept here in this shrine."
Jul 1, 2024 6:25 am
Krondo nodded at the cleric and said, "Show us what you have found. We are indeed intrigued by such disappearances. We can aid you in anyway we can."
Jul 1, 2024 9:30 am
"We would be very interested in such findings"
Jul 2, 2024 8:58 am
"Where the Emperor directs so shall we find purpose in our lives." Cassia nods, following.
OOC:
Any chance I could take a perception or insight test to notice anything out of place? Not that Cassia has much chance with either...
Jul 3, 2024 1:06 am
He introduces himself, "Caius Marcellus minor functionary of the Eclisiarchy. It is my duty to perform the prayers and rituals in this village and also man a plow when needed." Its clear he’s worked the machines that water and care for the plants quite often.

He opens the shrine and shows you items you’ve seen. Drukhari weapons or more the results of them, tiny needles and monofilament wires. "We found them after we lost folks. Emperor save us we lost twenty in the last two years. All gone from the fields with only broken machines and this to show for it"
OOC:
You could, but I will give it to you and say it is all very normal for a serf village.
Jul 3, 2024 8:56 am
Krondo picked up some of the weapons with one of his tentacular arm. "Hmm, these are heretical pieces of instruments. You must give these to the Sisters here. Such devices can raise suspicions and it is better to dispose of them to correct authorities. However, your aid and cooperation is praiseworthy. Can you take us to the place where you found these and the broken machines?"
Jul 3, 2024 10:14 am
"I agree with my associate here." Cassia nods. "It's best these items are given to the sisterhood for righteous destruction."

She crosses her arms. "But I'm concerned you saw to take these onto Holy ground, was there not a more appropriate and secure storage facility?"
Jul 3, 2024 10:13 pm
Caius Marcellus responds, "They would not burn. I hoped that under the blessed eye of the emperor they would be rendered safe until such time that my duties allowed me to report to my superiors."

It is very likely they have no promethium or anything that might burn the objects and a low level member of the Eclisiarchy isn’t going to be allowed to just leave his post and tromp all the way to the capital. He’s doing the best he can with limited resources.
Jul 4, 2024 8:00 am
"I will let you off with a warning for now, but we will return to this issue." Cassia says flatly, making a note to bring the novitiates here for a training exercise in interpersonal communication.

She turns to Krondo and the others, giving a long look in case Caius wants to add anything, before speaking in a voice quiet enough to avoid him overhearing. "From here we have a few options for what I can see; to visit the last know locations of the disappearances, to contact the last people they saw or to investigate the exact locations weapons were found. The more evidence we have, the better our position, though I'm loathed to split up in an unknown territory again."
Jul 5, 2024 9:54 pm

OOC:
DM Note: This would be a workable place to each find and question some of the villagers on their lost loved ones.
Jul 8, 2024 8:24 am
Krondo turned to Sister Cassia and answered, "I agree, we are vulnerable if we try to approach this scenario alone or with fewer members. It is better to approach this together. For now, I suggest we investigate the abduction site and interrogate the populace about what they know and can share regarding the xenos activity. As for our next step, I suggest actually questioning some of the higher authority or get hold of someone close to the them. Sister Cassia, you wield the authority of the... dreaded organisation. I am sure, you can get hold of any suspect and interrogate them without any problem."
