Gonna move forward tomorrow afternoon. If anyone is unable to post by then, I’ll treat it as if they are keeping their foes at bay while those who posted actions can fight their way to Sheng Long, with less foes to obstruct them. (I will confirm that Thundra has a clear path to him once I resolve the round.)

@Alepous Even though you posted an action with your defensive roll, feel free to post another move. I used your dance roll as an excuse to let every heroine attack first. (I was going to use the fire as a means to win/lose initiative, but I liked the mental picture of Kurumi dancing out the flames on her shoes.)

Legendary_Sidekick says:
You got a wand earlier which had two spells on it:
• Embiggen (which you cast on the wingless fairy)
• Wallflower

Once you cast Wallflower, you’ll gain some kind of power from the Flower Wand.
I'm not sure what you mean. Are you saying wands can only cast two spells? Like they have ammo? Is it just nothing after all of its ammo is used? I'm not sure what you're referencing/getting at/assuming. I've never heard of wands using ammo, how would that work?

I can magic dance and magic attack at the same turn?

I believe Legendary_Sidekick mentioned earlier that "something good" will happen once you use all spells:
Legendary_Sidekick says:
Something happens when you empty a wand of all its spells. (You don’t know what, but you know it’s something good.)
PS: I believe I actually have seen wands being used as one-use items before. Although that was from some older game, not in recent memories.

Yeah that doesn't answer my question of what happens to the wand. Also "something good" doesn't really mean anything to me. Do I find a dollar? Get a permanent stat upgrade? Turn into a god? Get a new wand? I'm not making decisions based on that vagueness. Especially when I still haven't had this system explained to me.

the closest I've seen is an item that has a nubet of uses per day. But nothing like this in video games or stories/lore.

They probably want it to be a surprise? :D I don't think this system requires a lot of tactics, at least not for now since we are going to have our abilities reset after the prologue. I imagine it would also affect the wand as well? Though a clarification would be nice.

I've seen a lot of one-use scrolls in RPGs - the ones which let you cast a specific spell and then disappear. I think DnD has something similar? But specifically for weapons, I think I've seen exactly a wand somewhere. Can't remember where though.

Either way, my bet (based on video game experience) is that the wand will evolve into a different item or a stronger version of itself. It'll be curious to see if I'm correct. XD

Yes to the above:
• the wand will ‘evolve’
• when we’re in level 2, you won’t have any of the powers/items that you found here or in your game of origin

Okay, my thinking here if you’ll bear with me: The last time I ran a L&F hack (Thundra’s debut game, at least as far as I know), everyone had strengths and weaknesses. You rolled 3 dice for strengths and 1 die for weaknesses.

It wasn’t a bad way to run the game. (It’s actually considerably easier for me because I don’t need to manage/balance abilities.) But I chose to do something that requires a little more work on my end because, for a video game world, players should get loot or power-ups.

But if the power-up is "roll 3d6 all the time" and it’s permanent, you pretty much only need to loot once. So I am borrowing from other game concepts—Pathfinder wands have charges, for example. Or for a video game example, in Breath of the Wild, weapons break very easily.

So as long as power-ups are limited, I have more to work with, and they have more value I believe because you will definitely lose them (and probably find them again—especially the ones you like best). And as far as making power-ups a surprise, my thinking is that—like in any Super Mario sequel, you don’t really know how Elephant Mario plays until you pick up an elephant-ears hat and find out!

Technically, it’s one action per turn. (The defensive "anti-hero" roll is a reaction.) I just felt that your dance-roll after dodging the flame (trying to, anyway) was a move that benefited the team, and you should still get to act while the team is attacking.

In my head, your two recent posts are two different "turns." (I could see why you might see them as one turn though.)

@PhoenixScientist I corrected my post—you can post an action now.

I received a private message above, but some of it is best answered publicly.

The rules hack - I’m using L&F as originally stated:
https://i.imgur.com/xRhhWyf.jpeg
…but… as we’ve been playing Level 1, which was intended as a tutorial level for you to get used to the combat, I also have been updating the power-ups. The original list of power-ups was as the above screenshot implies: every power-up was 3d6 (or 1d6 anti-hero). What I have now is more varied and interesting. I hope you’ll agree as you come across them.

It’s not that I didn’t have a plan for items/power-ups. But by not spelling it all out for you up-front, I was able to make tweaks for the better. There’s a lot you can do mechanically with a simple system. And while I was honestly very nervous about pre-gen characters, that has allowed me to give the different sets of items a flavor that matches the character.

Levels 2-5 - I don’t like to give everything away, but the plan is to get you into the Hero Girl Sprite game, and from there you’re on a quest to find Missy Girl. Hero Girl Sprite will be a hub world where NPCs can send you to ‘faraway lands’ (other games) to find their missing heroine.

Your choices will be named after real games without completely resembling them. The Polygon Trail, for example, is named after The Oregon Trail. I never played or saw that game. I know of it. I know it’s old. The Polygon Trail will be from the early days of polygon games, aesthetically speaking. In-character, our heroines will see this land as a "frontier." You won’t die of dysentery.

You can’t die at all. There will be a consequence for losing fights, but so far my closest call in an L&F hack was in Cartoon Peril, where I managed to KO a few PCs in the final scene before Thundra the Thicc saved the day.

I feel like you get the idea about combat. If you feel the same and want to move onto plot, head to Aka Nishin’s chamber.

Hey all, if anyone keeps dialogue going, I’ll check in on the weekend (three days in the USA), but my weekend is turning to chaos. My mother-in-law’s cancer has progressed significantly during her son’s visit; she is now on 7-day hospice care for however many weeks she has left.

And while this next bit pales in comparison, my lawn mower and pool pump both decided to stop working.
May 25, 2024 5:40 pm
Sorry to hear this, Legendary_Sidekick. :(
May 27, 2024 6:55 am
@Legendary_Sidekick sorry to hear that. I lost both my parents from the same disease two years ago. PM me if you need any support.
May 28, 2024 1:16 am
@FlyingSucculent,@Alepous Thank you both. My mother-in-law actually passed away yesterday. That said, don’t worry about me—I have amazing people in my life as a support system. And while I’m supporting my wife and daughters, the girls have been on calls with their BFFs, and my wife has friends in US, Canada and Hong Kong all reaching out to her.

I have a partly written post ready to drop for this game. If anyone wants to reply to Pira, I’ll adjust as needed. But I think I’ll get the next scene up tomorrow or Wednesday.

I have some thoughts for when we do the Reset… but let’s get there first.

Also, @Alepous, sorry to hear you lost both of your parents so recently.

Pix’s player has left the game. I wanted to give the character a heroic exit.

I’ll wait until the Lv.2 Reset before seeking a new Fairy Girl.

Ah, that's a shame; but that's how the cookie crumbles sometimes.

Does Kurumi knows capoeira? I feel a bit overwhelmed, she can dance and distract but what can she do for attacks?
Jun 4, 2024 9:30 am
Yes. Roll hero to attack.

(3d6 hero for this fight.)
