It's raining in London... again (RP)

"Sure, I'm alright, this is not the first time I've had to deal with infernal fire", he replies with an enigmatic smile."Certainly better than you, I can see... Quick, come in, but please do not drop any blood on my books!"

Mark walked upto the place where the confrontation took place. He bent down and took up a fist-sized rock, and a wand dropped around the pile that shattered from the demons. He observed it for sometime trying to feel any residual magic, and then, satisfied, pocketed it and turned to Jacob, the bookshop owner.

"Greetings, Jacob. You seem to be doing fine on this rainy morning. I guess you weren't expecting company, or is it like this for you, once a year. May I come in, perhaps?"

She pushes the demon inside smiling at Jacob, "Jacob! I would hug you but, the new accessory won’t want that. Now, I hope his presence isn’t a new scheme of some sort? You know these fellows are just out to cause harm. Not my usual hunt but, I am more than happy to do away with this one if he doesn’t start taking."

She tries threats but, most likely the demon knows she’s going to kill him either way. She also gets surprised by seeing Mark. "Ahh, seems all my non hunter friends are together this lovely day. What brings everyone here?Myself I am sure everyone knows." She rattles the chain on the demon.

"Ah, mr. Tsocanth, always glad to see you", he greets Mark with a nod of his head."Let's continue this discussion inside, shall we?"
OOC:
I'll grab the intact wand in the floor and bring it inside too (I'm assuming the other one is with the demon left)

You drag the thrashing demon inside, your cold iron chain prevents it from fighting back. The clumsy, hard-hitting brute appeared to be nothing more than hired-muscle...

Until it is inside, and passed the exterior wards. In the moment before the door can be closed and the room sealed —while everyone is exchanging pleasantries with their guard, apparently, down, the demon closes its eyes for a moment, as though steeling itself for something unpleasant, then, when they open again, they have changed color, the eyes quickly scan around the shop, taking note of every detail. You get the idea that it is seeing more than you do.

Then, with a grimace, it literally tears off one of its hands and reaches out with remaining one —your now slack, chain, dangling in your face— and grasps your head. It does not 'hurt', as such, but you feel it probing your mind —like lichen penetrating a rock— searching for your secrets, for your fears.

Then, with a silent scream of pain, it rips open the fabric of reality. A circle, decorated with thousands of smouldering runes, and extending from floor to ceiling, scythes up around it and it vanishes. The vacuum left by its departure sucks books and other items off the shelves and scatters them all around.

You have to step back with alacrity or risk being dragged with it to a hell-dimension.

What do you do?
OOC:
This escape is a consequence of the 4 on Persuade, it is also combined with the 'as you one question as well' from the 7-9 on Figure Someone Out.

You don't get to 'ask it questions' at your leisure, but the partial success still stands and you glean some hints from the mind-to-mind contact. The questions you 'ask' (or the answers you get) should be ones you could harvest from the superficial levels of its 'thoughts' —alien as they are. If you need help coming up with which questions seem feasible we can talk about the options OOC.

What it grabs from your mind is: '• what does your character worry is going to happen?'. They are likely to try to use your worries to further their goals, or your worry may be based on your instincts and we thus we find that that is what you 'need to worry about' and are facing.

No need for a roll to avoid getting sucked off into hell... unless you try to stop it from escaping, that is.

- Jacob -

You have allowed this enemy into your Establishment, it now appears that that may have been (part of) its plan.

• What do you least want it to see in your storefront (you already said the 'raven' was safely kept elsewhere, so don't worry about that one)?

What —if anything— do you do to maintain this secret?
May 7, 2024 4:05 pm
The demon's thoughts brush against her own as she gets some hints of its intentions here. Nothing as clear as she would have liked and it got some of her feelings too. She wipes a hand across her forehead in disgust once the creature is gone adding, "Why can't more demons be like you Jacob?"
OOC:

- What was it doing here?
- Who is it working for?

- What is Rhiannon worried will happen? She's worried they were here to take Jacob back to hell.

You focus on what the demon was hoping to get from coming here, and you feel... satisfaction. They went down way too easy for them to have been a real threat to Jacob and his protections. It got what it wanted: Information.

You try to get an impression of who's pulling its strings, who sent it here. It resists your efforts, but, in the last moments before it is ripped away, you see a face. It does not look like a demon, though that can be deceptive, they seldom do up here, but, even in the demon's mind, it looks human.
OOC:
You can try to Put a Name to a Face —with Power— to see if you can work out who they are and if you know them.

"Damn..." Jacob mumbles as he sees the demon disappear through the magic portal, along with some of his precious books. But that's not what worries him. He saw the demon clearly identify one of his latest acquisitions: an ancient Christian cross from the Second Crusade, a rare item that Jacob had recently purchased from a French antique dealer. Why would these demons be interested in such a thing? Jacob hadn't yet been able to identify its magical properties, but he knew it was a powerful artefact.

"Ah, yes, not all demons are as charming as I am, unfortunately," he replied to Rhiannon with a grin."Mr Tsocanth, may I borrow that wand for a moment? Perhaps a closer look will shed some light on who those grunts were."

Mark entered Jacob's bookshop along with everyone at his invitation and then closed his umbrella, keeping it in a stand near the doorway. The well-known hunter and acquaintance Rhiannon was present, along with another familiar face, the vampire Benji. He nodded at the company as he looked around the shop and then turned towards the demon that Rhiannon captured.

What followed next was very quick, and Mark was surprised at the tenacity of this demon, as it opened a dimensional gateway to escape along with some of the artefacts and things present in the bookshop. He waited until everything was back to normal and then turned to Jacob, "My friend, have you made new enemies, or is it something else? I find it strange that my readings will lead me to here, as I see you are clearly the fulcrum of some greater threat that I cannot understand. Why would the demons send a hit squad against you?"
May 8, 2024 12:34 pm
Benji has found a quiet corner of Jacob’s shop to sit and recover his senses a bit while the others try to figure out what brought the demons here in the first place. He’s soaked from the rain, but not cold – he doesn’t get cold—and he takes care not to drip rainwater on Jacob’s books.

"You do have a true gentleman’s charm. There are chaps all around London who could use lessons." She thinks of a few of the more rowdy cat callers. Her mind flips from them to demons she might know. Has she seen this one before somewhere?

She blows a bright red hair from her face and asks, "What did bring you this way Benji? Mark got his magic readings. Jacob lives here. I got notified about the demons by the guild. Something is drawing us together maybe?

You do recognise the face. They go by the name Chaudry, they are a wizard, but not anyone very important. You don't know what order they belong to (if you even know there are different 'orders', wizard politics is complicated) and have not heard a lot about them. But you have a place to start if you want to follow up.

• How do you know their face?

What do you do? Do you tell the others?

"Oh, I saw the demons at the station this morning," Benji answers Rhiannon’s question. "I warned Jacob they were coming and he asked me to come by."
May 9, 2024 10:37 am
"Anyway, first things first. Your head is not looking too good, my friend," Jacob says, and then he goes to the back room, where he has a small freezer, among other things. He opens the door and takes a bag of blood from inside.

"Not sure if this will help, but there you go," he says when he is back in the main room, handing the bag to Benji."You can go to the reading room if you need some privacy."

"Oh! Thank you! That’s very kind of you," says Benji, warmly. The plastic pouch looks very cold and unappetizing but it’s the thought that counts.
May 9, 2024 5:47 pm
She shakes her head, better the bag of blood than her arm. "So, I think I recognized a wizard about town by the name of Chaudry. They were part of a Hell Hound fighting circuit in town that I shut down a year or two ago. Their summoning tools were supposed to have been taken away but, clearly that's not the case. Was the book magical?"
May 10, 2024 11:03 am
At the mention of the name Mark raised his eyebrows and turned towards Rhiannon. "Did you say Chaudry? I faintly remember meeting a person named Chaudry in the Enclave during Symposium of Prepared Thoughts. They had shown knowledge about demonology and primal fabric of space-time. They were requesting access to the Liber Demonica which is generally not given access easily."

Jacob touches his chin thoughtfully.

"The demon seemed very interested in this cross," Jacob tells the others, picking up the cross. "I haven't been able to figure out its properties yet, but it seems important enough for this Chaundry to risk his soul."

Benji takes a tentative sip from the bag of blood Jacob gave him, torn between disgust and acute hunger. It’s not very pleasant and it doesn’t do anything for his headache, but it does help him focus a little better. He tries to recall if he has ever met this Chaudry person that everyone’s talking about.
